*After a Buffalo touchdown, Lafayette responded in the fourth quarter with an 11-play, 66-yard drive capped by sophomore quarterback Dean DeNobile connecting with senior wide receiver Chris Carasia on a 13-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 23-13.

Dayton 18, St. Francis (Pa.) 10

DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton scored the game’s first nine points and didn’t look back in an 18-10 victory against St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday at Welcome Stadium. After forcing a fumble on Red Flash’s opening drive, the Flyers got on the board when Drew VanVleet found Gavin Lochow for a 12-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. Dayton’s special teams and defense combined late in the quarter for a safety with punter Logan Forcum unleashing a 75-yard punt that went out of bounds at the one-yard line. On the ensuing St. Francis drive, the Flyers defense stuffed the run in the end zone for the safety and a 9-0 lead. Dayton extended its lead in the third quarter as Lochow connected with Luke Brenner for a 27-yard touchdown and a 15-3 lead that Dayton would not relinquish. VanVleet completed 15-of-22 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown to pace Dayton’s offense.

Georgetown 46, Davidson 20

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After facing an early nine-point deficit, Davidson closed within two points twice in the third quarter, but host Georgetown scored 27 unanswered points to break away on the way to a 46-24 victory at Cooper Field. Mason Sheron and Mari Adams ran for second-quarter touchdowns, trimming the Wildcats’ deficit to two points at 12-10 and 19-17, respectively. But Georgetown closed the half with a field goal and then kept Davidson off the scoreboard in the third quarter, scoring 21 points to break the game open. Davidson rolled up 224 rushing yards on 57 carries, with Adams (48 yards) and Sheron (41 yards) leading the way.

Butler 40, Upper Iowa 7

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Reagan Andrew threw for three scores and ran for another as Butler swamped Upper Iowa, 40-7, Saturday at the Sellick Bowl. The Bulldogs only outgained the Peacocks by a 388-315 margin, with the Butler defense helping the cause with four turnovers, including three interceptions. Nick Bafia nabbed the first interception and returned the pick to the Upper Iowa eight-yard line, and three plays later, Nick Howard dashed in from one-yard out for the touchdown. Fifteen minutes later, Andrew found William Enneking for a 16-yard touchdown. After the Peacocks’ only touchdown, Andrew hit Luke Wooten for a 75-yard touchdown pass to give Butler a 19-7 halftime lead. Andrew would later add a 22-yard scoring run and a 19-yard touchdown pass to complete his outing. Andrew completed 5-of-10 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns and added 32 yards on five carries.

Northern Iowa 35, Valparaiso 7

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa –Running back Michael Mansaray’s one-yard touchdown got Valparaiso on the board in the second quarter, but host Northern Iowa scampered to a 35-7 victory Saturday at the UNI-Dome. The Beacons were held to 124 offensive yards, with 75 coming on their second-quarter scoring drive. Northern Iowa’s Aidan Dunn threw for three touchdowns, and Tye Edwards ran for two scores to pace the Panthers’ 481-yard outing.

Stetson 41, Ave Maria 3

DELAND, Fla. – After a quiet first half, Brady Meitz threw three second-half touchdowns to help Stetson pull away from Ave Maria for a 41-3 victory Saturday at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. The Hatters and Gyrenes traded field goals in the first half, with Daniel Holbrook connecting from 33 and 45 yards to give Stetson a 6-3 halftime lead. Meitz found his rhythm in the second half, throwing touchdown passes to Brayden Miller and Dalton Bailey on consecutive drives in the third quarter. He added a third touchdown pass to Bailey in the fourth quarter and finished the day 26-of-38 passing for 338 yards.

San Diego 27, Cal Poly 21

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego shrugged off back-to-back Cal Poly touchdowns on each side of halftime and responded with 17 unanswered points for a 27-21 victory at Torero Stadium that was the Toreros' first win at home against the Mustangs and first win overall since 2016. Cal Poly took a 14-10 lead just two minutes into the second half when Budha Boyd Jr. returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown. But San Diego’s defense forced three turnovers and scored 21 points off the takeaways, including two defensive touchdowns. On the next CPU possession, after it took the lead, San Diego’s Eric Haney intercepted a pass to set up the offense near midfield, and three plays later, Logan Gingg scored from one yard out to give the Toreros the lead again. San Diego’s defense struck again to start the fourth quarter as Matt Ballentine intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for USD’s second defensive touchdown for a 24-14 lead.

Morehead State 17, Central State 10

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Chance Harris’ 18-yard touchdown run with 11:50 remaining in the game pushed Morehead State to a 17-10 win against Central State in Thursday night action at Jayne Stadium. Harris’ score provided the only second-half points in a tight contest. The Eagles and Marauders traded scoring drives in the second quarter, settling on a 10-10 tie at the halftime break. Harris finished with 74 yards on 10 carries, while Garrett Davis III added 77 yards on 11 rushing attempts.

Mercer 63, Presbyterian 10

MACON, Ga. – Mercer scored five unanswered touchdowns to break free of Presbyterian en route to a 63-10 victory Thursday night at Five Star Stadium. Presbyterian got on the board late in the first quarter courtesy of Mack Mikko’s 24-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 7-3. But Mercer’s D. Smith passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as part of a 35-point run that broke the game open. Ty Englehart stopped the Bears’ push with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Cincere Gill, but only closing the gap to 42-10 before Mercer scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close the scoring. Englehart completed eight passes for 141 yards in the loss.

Sioux Falls 34, St. Thomas 13

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas got on the board first but could not hold off Sioux Falls’ run game and dropped a 34-13 nonconference decision Thursday night at O’Shaughnessy Stadium. Tat Tateoka found Jacob Wildermuth for a 25-yard touchdown for an early 7-0 lead. However, the Tommies were kept off the board for the next 36-plus minutes as Sioux Falls pieced together an 18-0 run that included two rushing touchdowns. C.J. Warren would recover a fumble for a touchdown to end the drought, but the UST offense could not break through again.

Quincy at Drake, canceled/weather

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake opened up a 10-0 halftime lead against Quincy, but the game was canceled, and no contest was declared at halftime as severe weather plagued the Des Moines area Thursday night.

It will be interesting to see what happens with lines this week since this is the first normal week. Will they revert back to norms of being released on game day, sometimes just hours before kickoff, or will it be more like weeks 0 and 1 were lines for some games were available for days prior to kickoff?

Also unsure which books will do what. After having a majority of my action at BM last year, this year I only had 1 bet there on Saturday.

Local 22%, FanDuel 19%, Heritage 18%, Draft Kings 15%, MyBookie 11%, BetRivers 10%, BOL 3%, BM 1.5%, MGM 0% and Bovada 0%.

Massey is suggesting Coastal Carolina is a 20.5 fav hosting William & Mary. W&M was a 10.5 pt dog at Virginia last year. They only trailed by 7 at HT (13-20) and lost by 14 (13-27). UVA did outgain them by 234 yards. W&M had unexpected offensive struggles last season. They dropped about 12ppg and 130ypg from 2022's numbers. They had 8 starters back on O including a 3year starter at QB, but lost their top 2 receivers. This year they return their dual threat QB for his 4th year starting. Their top RB who was lost to injury last year is back and his replacement who is good is also back. They have an NFL prospect at LT on an OL that does lose 2 starters at RG and RT. All their receivers are back this year and they added some transfers (like Bucknell's #1 WR who caught 2 passes here last week). They replaced their OC this offseason with their 4 year OL coach.

They have all the pieces on O that have done it before, so something closer to the 2022 offensive output isn't unreasonable to expect.

How good will they be vs Coastal Carolina? I don't know. Coastal was a buzz saw last week. Led 31-3 2Q. Looks like Jax State helped them out some as they were awful on O and D.

The W&M D is usually pretty tough. They had their best D in 10 years last season (18ppg and 302ypg allowed). They do lose some star power off that unit, notably LB John Pius and DE Nate Lynn who you may've heard of as they were perennial AA candidates. Pius transferred to Wisconsin and Lynn was in Detroit Lions camp. The secondary is in pretty good shape, but the front 7 is a little concerning vs what should be a tough offense for them in this game.

Don't know. But this potential spread jumped out to me as being pretty high, should Coastal Carolina be a higher favorite vs W&M that UVA was last year? Cavs were 3-9 last year....so maybe?

Utah Tech was substantially worse than the final score last week vs Montana State. Utah Tech was outgained by 305 yards and trailed 0-31 before they got their only score of the game like mid 4Q when Montana State had reserves in on D. Montana State should've won by more for sure as the Cats missed a FG from the UT09 and UT15 and then they made a FG from the UT10. Only 2 TDs on 5 RZ trips is why this score is what it was.

Deacon Hill is the QB for Utah Tech, remember him? Yeah.

Seeing UNLV might be a 30 point favorite is pretty weird to me, but I guess they are kind of good like that? I know Utah Tech is very bad, it's year 1 for the new staff and they actually had some decent players last year, but they're gone now and they are relying on Deacon Hill to lead this offense, not a great idea. Huge downgrade from Kovb Tracy who they had last year (was a starter for most of the last 3 years for them). And they lose some good receivers and 4 starting OL. It is Utah Tech, so you know the D is going to be bad, to make it worse they lose top 3 DL (1 was All Conference) and top 2 LBs who were All Conference.

UNLV won a few games by 20+ last year. Won by 20 last week at Houston. Don't know if Houston is any good, but looks like Rebel D played really well in that game. Rebels won 9 games last year so Odom has it going there.

Have to assume this is a blow out win for UNLV. Will have to see where they open the real line.

UNI should come in fully focused to St Thomas, look what waits for them on the schedule going forward.

1725330489006.png

So how bad is Florida? Samford lost at West Georgia last week...but thinking about that, it was a huge game for WGU to debut their first game as an FCS member. Everyone may have assumed it would be easy to replace Michael Heirs at QB. But Crittendon started some games in 2022. I think losing to West Georgia implies Samford sucks, they don't suck. Does Florida suck? If this line gets bet up to a certain point, like over 40, I could take a shot on Samford to hang inside that number....assuming Florida does suck right? Gators beat McNeese 49-7, but McNeese last year was WAY worse than Samford ever is. UF only beat Charlotte by 15 and in 2022 under Napier beat Eastern Michigan by 35. Napier is 11-15 here? Damn

UNI should come in fully focused to St Thomas...

Strange that Northern Iowa is actually traveling to them, but I like it! I like the bigger school traveling to play the smaller schools. Like when a Power 5 comes to the MAC. I always loved that.

But yeah, so UNI only won 35-7 vs Valpo as a 31 pt fav. But they outgained them by 357 yards! Valpo only had one drive cross the 50! UNI had a 42-18 minute TOP! 64% to 11% 3rd down rate! I really do not know how they only won by 28 and how they didn't score 50. I thought they were going 'air-raid' but they rushed for 365y instead.

I will probably be able to post some tomorrow night and hopefully some Wednesday.

My wife and I are going to spend some time for our anniversary. So nice when it falls during the week we can actually do something together. We got married at a justice of the peace on a Friday of opening football weekend. Came home and watched New Mexico - Washington State that night! She's the best!

I'd imagine they were solid to have that much volume.

Not exactly, I like keeping the relationship open. I played Nicholls with him at +7.5 after I had already taken it at 9.5 and 8.5 online. They lost by 8. Not a best move how it worked out, but before the game started I was fine with 7.5 still. The other lines were all comparable to online numbers. Everything I took with him I had already taken in some form online. Last two years he let me play some 1H FCS numbers just taking my word for what the numbers were - pretty sure I got them off some site that showed 5dimes numbers. Not sure that will work this year. The only FCS - FCS 1H line I saw all of last week anywhere was Heritage Dayton +4 vs St Francis. Pretty sue that was the only one, which is weird - why have one, and that one, but not others?

I actually found your % breakout interesting, so did the same with my Week 0/1 36 plays to see how it shook out...

FanDuel (22) - 61.1%
BookMaker (6) - 16.7%
Fanatics (3) - 8.3%
Draft Kings (3) - 8.3%
Bet365 (2) - 5.6%

Note: I already cashed out at DK due to limits, so won't be using those moving forward. Also, don't expect to be using Fanatics or 365 much if at all, except for if they post an off line for some reason, but I do have my UNC ML vs Duke future play hanging out there at 365.

So far in Week 2, it is pretty evenly split, with 8 at FD and 6 at BM. Like you said, will be interesting to see how the FCS stuff plays out this week, as this will most likely be the determining factor for me in terms of who gets the biggest share of my action over the long term. Great stuff, thanks!

The early report was Jack Layne went to locker room at Oregon as "a precaution". Turns out he has a broken collarbone.

Idaho fans didn't get too upset when Gevani McCoy transferred to Oregon State. McCoy was a 2022 Jerry Rice Award winner. Part of that might've been due to a somewhat disappointing 2023 season from him and the offense, but the other part really was the confidence they had with Layne as well. Noteably Idaho did not sign a transfer QB, so the staff was confident in Layne as well. As well as the defense played at Oregon, the offense did not. And it is hard to hold that against them there, but if not for some trick plays they really didn't do much on O and now Layne is out. Sounds like Idaho will do more running from QB spot now.

The new starting quarterback has a lot of mobility and can create more options for offensive coordinator Luke Schleusner with his ability to take off and run. Do not be surprised if you see a lot of run-pass option plays on Saturday to attempt to keep the Cowboys off balance. However, just because Wagner can run does not mean he does not have a good arm.
In practice on Tuesday, Wagner’s throwing ability was on full display as he connected on the deep ball and through tight windows. The right-handed quarterback showed a good ability to move around in the pocket to buy himself some time and open up passing lanes. As long as the freshman doesn’t allow the moment to get too big for him, his talent on the field could surprise some people.

Yeah, I figured I am keeping a spreadsheet this year of the plays, so that kind of stuff will be easy to just have some formulas add it all up and sort it out. I've always just wrote them down and then never analyzed what was going on where. But that got really hectic last year and especially last week when I was basically putting plays in every day through Saturday it was really helpful to do a formal list of them. I do not keep track of my live plays like that though. Those are too fast and frequent sometimes.

Damn
Actually jotted down Samford in the notebook after I lost that play vs West Georgia as I was thinking there might be an overreaction in the line but not sure it will get to the 42.5 I would probably need to play it. Have 16 potentials on the list this week, so really interested to see when/where lines come out, as I expect to hit at least 3-4 out of the 16 if I can time the lines right. Best of luck this week man!

Both have Montana a small road favorite.

Have to acknowledge, it is only one game, but I was very much down on what North Dakota would be this year. They didn't perform that way vs Iowa State. Will they surprise again vs Montana? Montana is superior for sure, unsettled at QB as they have been before, makes them unpredictable. Alerus Center is tough for opponents to play and UND has a great home record. Have to just say up front that the preseason read on UND could be off, but at 3 or less I have to take Montana.

Curious to get your thoughts on NCCU, Sac State and ACU when you get a chance as those are 3 that are on my "potential" list if I can get the following...

Central +8.5 or higher
Sac State +18.5 or higher
ACU -16.5 or lower

I fear for the Colonels offense on Saturday Night in Tiger Stadium. Gotta expect effort playing in a place they all dreamed of playing in( likely in the other uniforms haha).
But woof vs LA Tech last week….

I was just getting back to some games here this afternoon and Elon - NCCU was one of them. This game is at Central...how can Elon by -7.5 (Massey)? Sagarin shows NCCU -.5 I have to believe that NCCU will be favored. Elon was -6 at home last year vs them and Central won by 11. They 8 different players combined for 8 sacks on Elon last year, 14 TFLs! I liked Elon's chances to hang in a +25 number last week at Duke and as it went they shouldn't have covered, well atleast depending what your line was. The OL has 4 Sr multi-year starts and Duke just kept running right past their Tackles! That OL was an embarrassment, 8 sacks and 16 TFLs. This OL must like giving up 8 sacks!

I don't think NCCU will be dogged at all. Maybe briefly, short, right at open perhaps. But more likely they will be favored. Now in that case, I don't know. Walker Harris is a pretty good replacement for Richard. Nobody is Richard, but Harris performed well in the past when he had to, so now it's his show and that should be ok. They looked real good at RB with Taylor taking over the lead role. I did wonder if Alabama State was just not on the same level OL and DL as NCCU? Not saying that NCCU OL isn't good, but mabye ASU's DL wasn't up to the challenge? The passing game, they had their top WR go to Villanova, the passing game looked off and that was just vs ASU. And ASU's passing game couldn't really test the D much. NCCU DL looks good (or ASU OL is just weak). ASU's whole offense was Body running around on scrambles.

So yeah, hate to burst your bubble, but I would say it is more lilkey NCCU is -8.5 than +8.5 BUT if we see +8.5 I would surely take them and those pts! They won't be -8.5 that is too high for sure, but just saying, last year's results and the results of both team's week 1 games I think makes them favored most likely. Elon -6 at home last year and lost outright, can't be favored by more on the road this year.

Haven't looked at other 2 yet. I'm actually not home and supposed to be doing some other things, so I am falling behind right now

I power rate Georgia 70 over Tennessee Tech

What are the highest point spreads in history. I seem to think we've had something close to 70 before haven't we? Maybe one of the 90s Nebraska teams vs Pacific or something? Someday I hope to make power ratings. I respect you guys who do.

Obviously Georgia names their score, they could have 50 at halftime or they could play it as an experience game for the subs and rest the first line guys. Clemson-SEC opener sandwich with UK on deck.

Tough spot for LSU coming off the USC Vegas game only to face a team that every player thinks they can just beat in their sleep. I tell you, McQuade was so bad. Their OL was so bad. Unfortunately McQuade has been bad before, more than once. That was really a disappointment how their O performed. The D was pretty respecable, but they were playing LaTech's backup QB for some considerable portion of the game

Not only was WR Bergen out last week (he was missed in both punt ret as Griz had a lost muffed punt - and at WR as there were a few drops that Ah Yat had to deal with), but also out was Riley Wilson (real good DE/edge LB) and TE Grossman who was huge in 2022 but missed last year still was out. Hauk doesn't like to talk about injuries so don't know when those guys will be back.

Regarding Central, was actually using the Massey numbers above and comparing them to my “play at or better than” numbers I have in my notebook. Was that inverted and should read Central -7.5 maybe?

It’s funny because mismatch games like that I ask myself what would the number be for me to play the fav and the same question regarding the dog…

For me I would only play UGA at -52.5 or less and I would only play Tech if I got probably 63.5 or more. I think it plays something like 59-3 to 66-3 but will most likely be a pass for me.

What did you guys think of Fresno last week? Did you think they would be able to move it pretty good and score on a regular team?

Sac State's issues on defense from last year weren't resolved over spring and fall camps. Maybe they get better vs some Big Sky teams but I would think they allow FBS temas to score on them. San Jose understandibly got off to a slow start last week, but once they got going Sac State had trouble. I do generally think that Sac State O is capable with Bennett or Conklin at QB now, so was thinking an Over game? 53-57.5 is what Sagarin and Massey think. Last week SacSt-SJ St total started upper 50s and closed low 60s and they finished at 66 with a few missed scoring opportunities.

Their website definitely shows -7.5 on the upper side of the block which is where the road team Elon is listed - so that appears to be what their PR says.

florida state was -70 playing savannah state the week after SSU played oklahoma state -55 and lost 84-0. I think florida state was up at half 56-0 and they played 10 minute quarters with a running clock the 2H.

Chattanooga may have a chance vs Georgia State. Spread 8.5 from Sargin and 19.5 from Massey which seems way high.

Chattanooga was blown out vs Tennessee last week, Vols got up 45-0 just 22 minutes into the game! UTC didn’t cross midfield until after halftime. UTC suffered a similar fate in 2019 at the Vols. While they have not always fared well vs P5 FBS teams (outscored 91-10 combined vs Bama and Illinois ’23 and ’22) – I think the 2021 game vs Kentucky is evidence that the coaching staff does not treat FBS games as pure throwaway games (only lost 23-28 as 32.5 pt dogs and UTC led 16-14 in the 4Q).

The score vs UT is what it is, but this isn’t a bad team though. UTC advanced to the second round of the playoffs last year and were among the favorites to win their league again this season. I would think that they are going to match up better vs Georgia State who looks to be in rebuild mode on both sides of the ball and a new coaching staff. UTC has an underrated QB, two very good FCS WRs and an OL that brings back 3. The new guys are a VT transfer who sat out last year. He started 7 and was Fr AA in 2022 at VT. The other new starter is a Dll transfer RS JR who is getting his first Dl playing time this year. This offense has averaged 26-29 ppg the last 3 years and by most accounts this is to be their best unit and one of the best in the SoCon. The D here is usually very good. 3 straight years of 30+ sacks, have been slipping in the ppg from upper teens allowed to low/mid-20s last year. Huge loss at DE, the 2x SoCon DOY is gone, but they do have 6 of their top 8 back to the DL including Marlon Taylor – FCS Central’s pick for the #1 DT in the FCS. Should be good shape at LB and their pass eff D was #1 last year, maybe taking a step back this year, but still good. HC, OC, DC all 6th year.

How good is Georgia State? Looks like they didn’t play bad looking quickly vs GT in week 1. Their two recent FCS games I think show that the kind of talent at Georgia State typically has isn’t necessarily a whole lot better than FCS teams Vs Rhode Island last year (won 42-35 as 17.5 pt fav – URI had +96 total yard edge) and a few years back in 2019 vs Furman (won 48-42 as 7.5 pt fav – only a 40y edge for GaState).

I would think this is a game that UTC wants to compete well in to get that 69-3 UT game behind them. That is a really bad look, but this team went 8-5 last year and that was with their QB getting knocked out for the year and missing the last 3 (1-2 in those). Last week’s loss at UT might bump this line a little higher than it should be and recent history suggests UTC won’t win it given the blowouts in 3 of their last 4 vs FBS, but those were P5 SEC and B1G opponents. And Georgia State hasn’t handled their FCS opponents all that great their last two and is retooling everything.

Zona 44.5 at FD…also a pass for me

Would not be surprised if all 3 favs covered but not a fan of those lines

Wasn’t expecting to see a 61-39 Final for New Mexico – Arizona! Zona was 4 TD fav there. I viewed this game as my first chance to play against Northern Arizona as I was pretty down on them. 30.5-34 is the range of spread for the two PRs posted in this thread. Looks like Zona O came through rather well….627 TY, 11 YPP, 200 RY – they had a receiver go for 10-304-4TDs! Wow! Babers! I’m not going to let NAU’s blowout win vs Lincoln scare me away, but the Arizona D might since they allowed nearly 500y to New Mexico, something is wrong with that. I also worry about the depth players Zona would likely rotate in for a game like this assuming they are up comfortably and with the Big Xll opener on deck, might not be ideal to lay 30+ given all those circumstances. I was assuming that NAU would be really weak this year so I was looking for a chance to fade them.

FAMU has had to rally from down DDs in both of their games this year to comeback and win. Credit to them, but that doesn’t bode well for having them hang vs Miami. Canes off the Florida win and no look-ahead, but I can’t lay it either.

In the summer I had thought Oregon rolls Idaho, big spread here and Idaho would be a good play vs Wyoming. Now everyone talking about how Oregon had a hard time with Idaho and Vandals QB got hurt in that game which puts them essentially on their 3rd string QB from last year – who might be ok. HC Jason Eck is an outstanding coach and he will put together a game plan for him and the D has a couple guys who could probably start on Wyoming’s team – but all the variables have changed now. Regionally I do think this is a game that Idaho players will be up for, I don’t expect any let down from playing Oregon close. Wyoming on the other hand has a historic rival BYU on deck, but as bad as they lost last week, they are likely going to be focused here as well. Not sure what I would do with this game now. Edit - actually and Under would make sense. It projects like 47.5 - 51.5. Idaho did allow a lot of yards to Oregon, but Ducks being Ducks...vs their normal level of competition in the Big Sky they do well on D too. Last year Idaho held Montana to just 23, Montana State to just 21, Sac State did get 27. Those were the playoff offenses they played last year - not sure Wyoming's O is much better than those.

Ball State has played an FCS school each of the last 3 seasons, but they have been some of the very worst FCS schools around…Indiana State, Murray State and Western Illinois – those 3 teams combined for just a 5-28 record in the years in which they played Ball State. BSU is taking a step up by facing Missouri State this year. While they were just 4-7 last year they played 2/3 of the year without their starting QB and he’s back this year and they return 9 starters on O and 10 on D. And last week showed that they have some pieces that can compete with the top of the FCS (lost by 5 as 13 pt dogs at Montana). So while Ball State has played the bottom of the MVFC in years past, they now will play one of the middle pack teams that also normally beats up on the bottom of the MVFC.

Ball State always just seems like your kind of average MAC team. 1 starter back on D, they are counting on transfers to hit to fill those voids. The O is probably going to be ok, but Missouri State plays offenses on par, or better than Ball State in the MVFC so I do not think they will be overmatched. Missouri State generally plays P5 FBS teams, stepping to a lower FBS level with a MAC opponent, this is probably being viewed a legitimate shot to get an FBS scalp in the locker room. Their OL has decent depth, but they are banged up right now. Assume it helps that BSU’s DL is being rebuilt (all 4 starters gone). The line will be key. Sagarin has it 4.5 and Massey has it 7.5. Naturally I would want more than a TD, after their good showing vs Montana that may not be possible now. This is game #1 for Ball State.

FanDuel just posted a few..

Georgia is at 53.5 so gonna pass
LSU is at 51.5, another pass for me

Thanks for posting that. Carolinablue notifications turned to 'on'! It was easier for me to have them all come out on Saturday, as I have said it pretty much takes me all week to figure out who I like and stuff. Looks like for now they are rolled out the big spread ones.

Kent State closed -22.5 home vs Central Connecticut State last year. As I recall that was a huge move upward prior to kickoff on Kent. They won 38-10 (led 21-0 HT). That was just game #3 of the current Kent staff and this week’s opponent, St Francis is also from the NEC like CCSU, but St Francis is a better program for sure. I was just selling St Francis last week vs Dayton, but could looking their way towards kickoff if the line gets bet up like it did for Kent's FCS opponent last year. Massey is suggesting 20.5 while Sagarin comes in at just 12.5, which 12.5 is way low and you’d have to consider Kent at that number. +20 and higher, maybe ideally 24 and I could be in.

Last week Pitt outgained Kent 560-212 (7.0-3.2). Each team scored a nonoffensive TD. Former Western Carolina star Reid returned a punt for TD and also had a big run for TD. Too bad he can’t be at WCU any more, but good for his career aspirations. Kent scored on a fumble return TD, so the offense only accounted for 17 of the 24 pts the flashes put up, 1 TD each half. Probably about as expected I assume.

St Francis did have a poor offensive showing last week at Dayton. They got off to a horrible start and their bad luck continued through the end of the game with some rather improbable turnovers in the 4Q. St Francis is normally an offensive led team, but the defense played well at Dayton. Kent poses a much bigger challenge than Dayton even though Flashes were held to single digit scoring in 3 MAC games last year.

Historically St Francis has lost by an average of 15 ppg in their 3 recent games vs MAC 2021-23. Lost 15-35 at Emich, lost 23-30 in ot vs Akron (this was St Francis’ real good team 2022). And last year lost 17-35 at WMich. The line vs WMich was only 14, so that makes them 2-1 ATS vs MAC the last 3 years, if the line were a hypothetical 3 TDs as I would hope for this week vs Kent then that would make St Francis 3-0 ATS the last 3 years vs MAC foes.

I think St Francis has more offensive potential than they came out with last week. I kind of expect line movement on this game towards Kent similar to last year’s CCSU game they had, so this will be a wait and see where it ends up type spread. After SFU lost straight-up to Dayton as a TD+ fav last week, I don’t think many will be rushing to take them here.

North Texas gained 550 TY (7.24) in scoring 52 pts at South Alabama last week, who gained 582 TY (7.10) scoring 38. That total was 62.

So obviously N Tex has some good O and plays no D - pretty much in line with their 2023 season. Upgraded at QB with Morris (former TCU) over Rodgers (transferred to Cal).

Steven F Austin opened with North American last week, so their stats aren't going to mean much, those stats were 77 pts, 675 TY (13.2) while holding their opponent to 40 TY and of course 0 pts.

Last year SFA average on O and D were about the same, scored about 30 per game, allowed about 30 per game. Same with YPG, 400 gained and allowed, on average. They played Troy week 1 last season and that game had 51 combined pts at halftime and finished with Troy winning 48-30 and a 540-240 TY edge (8.4-4.1).

North Texas played an FCS school last year, Abilene Christian and in that game there were 48 pts at HT with a final of 45-31 (total was 69.5). NT had a 530-387 TY edge.

N Tex last season averaged 34.5 ppg on O and allowed 37 ppg on D.

Both these teams can score and neither do much stopping on D.

Sagarin is out to lunch on this total, he has 52. Massey is 63.5. With an opening total in the low/mid 60s, I think Over is the way this game goes with North Texas doing most of the heavy lifting...no reason why they can't get close to or over 50 again on their own. And SFA should be good for something in the 20s atleast.

Note on SFA QB, it is not Brian Mauer, the expected starter for them this year. He has retired from football. So they are going with Sam Vidlak who transferred over from Montana. He didn't really do well on offense at Montana. He spent time at Oregon State and Boise too. He's literally been at a new school every year for the last 4 years. SFA's offense is new this year with a new OC from the Texas HS ranks. Vidlak only attempted 8 passes vs N American last week. He completed all 8...for.....288 yards. Yep, 36 yards per completion! He probably has more of a challenge in the scrimmages vs his own defense.

If this total opens in the 70s, where it probably should open, then I will have to back off. Just basing my opinion on what Sagarin and Massey's PR suggest. Maybe North Texas laying something around 3 TDs is a good look too? The PR guys I cite in the thread have it at 20.5-22 and it will probably get bet up I assume.

Have to lean over in that game no question. As soon as you see a number fire away that’s one that could move 10 points.

Peep Albany, major struggle with LIU.

Gain severely, three for 13 on third down, come from behind when in the fourth quarter.

Not going to be good against West Virginia

I was impressed at how Western Carolina played last week, it was good. The D was still an issue ultimately as NC State gained 521 (7.1) on them in rushing for over 200 (6.2) and passing for over 300 (65%). They did get a pick on NC State's 2nd possession, it was a good break on the ball by the DB and a bad throw by the QB. And WCU got a couple 4th down stops too. So overall vs a decent ACC team, WCU's performance was encouraging, because a couple SoCon games last year their D just got blasted.

When you talk Western Carolina, it's all about the offense. And Cole Gonzales. He's one of the top QBs in the FCS last year and this year. And it's Kerwin Bell's O - Florida Gator QB Kerwin Bell yes. It's a pro-spread he calls it as it is combination of the Spurrier Florida O, some NFL stuff he blended with it from when he was a backup at Miami and Indy and from what he played in at the CFL. It works. It works so well that his son was picked by Pitt to be their new OC after he became the primary play caller for the offense.

It was good to see the offense perform well vs NC State. Well enough to compete and hang around for 3+ quarters until some 4Q RZ failures (missed FG and fumble) allowed the game to tilt back to State and WCU lost by 17 after leading 21-17 3Q and only trailing 21-24 in the 4Q.

WCU was one of our darlings early last season as odds makers couldn't keep up with bettors appetite to bet them in the first half of the season. The dynamic RB Desmond Reid was injured vs Furman and they never figured out how to replace what they depended on out of him down the stretch.

Only -6.5 home vs Campbell has me thinking they will be off again at open. Massey at least has the -6.5. Sagarin 8.5.

Campbell always had good talent from high school recruiting, but just didn't have the coach that could get it right on the field. So they changed coaching staffs. A couple of those pieces are gone now. They lost a 3 year starter at QB who transferred to UNLV. Last year's back up who hardly ever played started last week for them. They did lose a couple of their top 3 WRs, but returned Wilkins is a real good one who was #2. They are filling in holes at RB and WR with FBS transfers, and Sincere Brown from USF did have a big game last week (5rec-126y-TD). The OL is an overhaul. Campbell has struggled on D, wasn't uncommon for offenses to put up over 30 points and 400-500 yards on them. New HC was a former LB and brings his DC from Houston Christian with him (HCU had a DE drafted in the 3rd round this year). The D only returns 4 starters this year.

Last week vs Liberty, Campbell wasn't terrible. Liberty did score or move the ball into the RZ on 4 of 5 1H possesions. They missed a FG from the 15 and fumbled just across midfield, or else that drive probably woud've got into scoring range too. So defensively I'm not sure how good the Camels were in that one - they allowed 533 (7.0) and also allowed 64% 3rd down conversions. Liberty scored 41 and proably should've had more as they were only 4-for-7 on scoring TDs in the RZ. Not sure whether to credit Campbell RZ D or if Liberty was a little off on their efficiency down there. Campbell was outgained by 233 yards. They were a 41.5 pt underdog and only lost by 17. So their O did some things, kind of surprisingly maybe to me given their QB isn't proven at all. They ran for 116 (3.6) and were 11-18-194 passing. No turnovers. Just 33% 3rd down though. Overall 6.2 ypp vs Liberty isn't bad.

So maybe Campbell is going to score a little vs Western Carolina. But I do not think they can hang on and their D won't be much of a match for the WCU O. Not sure I like an Over in the low 60s, but I do like WCU -6.5.

Good thanks. Sometimes I skip over the FCS-FBS game if I don't feel I have any kind of pulse on the FBS school. You are very correct though, Albany had their hands full last week. They lost a ton off last year's team.
