Some thoughts:

Looking at Phillies RL even though that's the biggest chalk I will ever lay but the Braves used like 8 guys from their pen last 2 days (have to check that, talking from my head, they had the kid Parr exiting in the 2nd inning v Mets and used at least 3 guys Monday) and now Hamels going v Hampton.

Last week 3:2 Hamels but in Atlanta. Not sure ATL can bring energy again after doing ok on Monday (got a bit lucky there Burrell saved me in the 8th I had the RL).

And absolutely the play I am looking at (whenever I love a play SportsNut comes in saying he likes the other side :D it's all good bro, I'm just saying, we are on a lot of opposites of late, don't like to see that since you are the expert when it comes to baseball and this is only my 3rd sport by strength )

Twins ML & RL

Ok here it is.

The Twins are 10-1 in their first home game off a 3 or more game road trip this season.

Ten and one. That's huge.

The most deceiving trend ever is this:
White Sox are 5-0 in Vazquezs last 5 starts vs. Twins.

The reason?
This:
# White Sox are 1-4 in Vazquezs last 5 road starts vs. Twins.
# White Sox are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in Minnesota.

1 and 4 at the Dome and 1-6 last 7 meetings there for WS.

  • White Sox missing Quentin, Konerko and Crede in the past few weeks was huge for them: Quentin won't play any more this season, and their offense (same as their defense really) has taken a huge downgrade, especially on the road since most of their guys hit better at home. Have in mind these are both killer home teams and average road teams. (CHW on the road 35-43)
  • Once again situationally this is as good as it gets folks. The Twins may have pulled doctor Jekyll - mr Hyde routine on the road, but at home they are a different animal.

3-3 in their last home stand but 7-2 the one before, before that home stand in particular their records on the three previous ones are, respectively: 5-2, 3-1, 7-2.

That's 25-10 in last 35 home games. Their regression has taken place at worst possible time but nothing is lost yet, they have to beat the White Sox and frankly Baker v Vasquez, I think Scott gets it done.

2.5 games behind. A mountain to overcome but I think they do make it 1.5 after Tuesday.

Vasquez has not pitched at the Metrodome in 2008.

In the last 3 years he is 1-3, 5.17 ERA in Minnesota, .272 BAA.

Vasquez v Minnesota KEY hitters*:
Code:
OPPOSING HITTER	AB	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	BB	SO	BA	OBP	SLG	OPS
Justin Morneau 39 14 4 0 6 13 6 3 .[COLOR="Red"]359[/COLOR] .444 .923 1.368
Joe Mauer 28 9 3 0 0 3 0 6 .[COLOR="Red"]321[/COLOR] .321
*Red = BAA

Cuddyer has hit him at a .343 clip but he is only hitting .200 in September and is mostly used by Gardenhire as a PH but it is essential that Twins' main punch in Mauer and Morneau has hit well off Vasquez since this is where they generate most of their runs from.

Morneau hitting .286 in September, 20 RBI but only 2 HRs, which is an issue since his homers have been killing teams off during their runs. Mauer not a HR guy but .391 in September.

I have a theory regarding Vasquez and you can dismiss it if you'd like.

He tends to get exposed pitching on the road against good teams. Minnesota not a power lineup but a stadium he does not like pitching in and a 49-26 home team.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Vasquez' last 9 road starts:
@NYY lasted 3.2 innings, 6 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 hr.
@CLE 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER. Good game, caught Cleveland in a horrid spot they were coming off their huge winning run. Ok, give him credit for this one.
@BOS 5.2 IP, 10 H, 3 ER
@OAK dominated one of the weakest AL lineups, 8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER
@KC 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER another good game against a bottom feeder.
@DET 7 IP, 11 H, 6 ER got brutally hit in Detroit
@KC 5.2 IP, 11 H, 6 ER
@CHC 6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, White Sox lost 7-1 in the IL game
@DET 6 IP, 10 H, 5 ER another horrid game in Detroit

faced Minnesota both times at US Cellular field, White Sox won both times.
5.1 IP, 9 H, 4 ER
7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER

So you can't say they haven't hit him, 16 hits in 12.1 IP. Thinking he got out of a lot of jams AND got the run support with his team playing at home and in a more complete edition, the one including Quentin, Konerko and Crede.

Baker is owned by Orlando Cabrera (8 for 18, .444) which is a downside since he has been en fuego in September, .351. Still, only 3 RBI since he's batting leadoff and CWS bottom of the order rarely leaves him with RISP.

-------------------------------------------------------------
But look at how the situation unfolds.

With Quentin out, the White Sox need the long balls by Thome (.143 v Baker, and 11 for 59 (.186) in September), 4 HR only 9 RBI in September.

Despite injury troubles Konerko has been stepping up when healthy and is a threat (.298 in Sept, .286 v Baker, 5 HRs this month).

Jermaine Dye 32 homers this season but ZERO in his last 73 at bats, only 6 RBI this month.

Also, there's more. Status Alert:
Dye tweaked his left calf on Sunday but hopes to play on Sunday, the team's official site reports. (Sep 21)

He did play, went 2 for 4 vs KC, but is he 100%? Even without this calf thing he definitely lost his length same as Chipper who has 3 homers in last 130 at bats. They lost their shot. So Dye is a base hit guy nowadays but not a clutch HR hitting machine he was months, even weeks back.

So who are the White Sox going to rely on? Nick Swisher? Who is 9 for 53, .170 this month.

Ramirez .209 in September
Pierzynski .200

they have guys like Uribe and Konerko stepping up since most of their big guns are quiet. Not to mention when you're talking about this team on the ROAD there's a huge decline in their stats, basically all parameters.

Also, Baker has been very, and I mean very solid at home throughout the season, 60.1 IP, 3.28 ERA at the Dome.

Now look at this. Baker has pitched 158.1 IP overall this season which means he has pitched on the road in a 2:1 ratio compared to his home appearances.

And still the team is 15-11 behind this guy, although he had to step up on the road mostly.

------------------------------------------------------------
More numbers:
v RHP (last 10)
MIN .264
CWS .238

MIN v RHP at home .294
CWS v RHP on the road .256
-------------------------------------------------------------

I know what you may be thinking right now. Isn't all this already embedded into this line?

1.75 Minnesota. I don't think it is. This White Sox team is not even remotely close to that Sox team consisted off an in form Dye, Thome and Swisher + a healthy Quentin and Crede.

This line also hides of how solid and consistent home pitcher Baker was throughout the season.

I did say I liked the RL as well, and I do. Another reason why I do. 2.55 is a very solid price considering 3 out of last 20 games between these two teams were decided by 1 run.

Anyways, these are just leans for now, just thinking out loud.

Any thoughts are welcome, I will gladly hear it, counter arguments included.

:shake:

the off the top of my head thought would be

it reads like CWS are taking the view this series isnt make or break for them, which I translate as meaning they're going to get up for 1 specific game at least (to ensure they don't get swept) and would be happy with a 2-1 series win. The game they get up could be any 1 of them, the 1 they start strongest in is the obvious observation. I've little doubt Minny will likely win 1 game going away, the game the WS start badly in and there after put in a throw away effort, simply content to let the homeside exhaust their energies in executing a victory.

Which all means from my pov, leave yourself room to chase in a Minny win if they fall here.

15 of Minny's 17 home wins since the ASB have been by 2+ runs. The ml would seem to be a waste of time.

Impressive writeup . While I dont disagree with the play really dont agree with alot of the points . Though Minny is definetly a different team at home .

For all the knocks you laid on Javy both SP took there last turn on short rest .

Interesting game for sure though . Ozzie already called out Javy and said we know the guy isnt a big game pitcher ? So he does he respond here ? When he challenged the hitters suddenly they started hitting ....

Javys 2 '07 starts @ Minny were solid as could be 14inn 9h 3 r 3bb 18K

Broken down Bakers home starts are solid but most are 3runs allowed he had just 2 really good ones vs Zona and ttexas..

Good Luck -doubt I touch this game .....

thanks fellas :shake:

BC, I agree, well spotted. :shake:

SN, thanks for the comments regarding rest since I did not include them, simply because I forgot, it's a late hour here, I would have checked that tomorrow before I pull the trigger. Always useful. Also, you are right regarding Vazquez v MIN, and it would be unfair of me to say that you've gone back to last season since I did the same, and the White Sox really are 1-4 in Vazquez's last 4 starts in Minnesota and 1-6 in Minnesota last 7 overall.

So you've got a point. You need to look at these numbers from a different perspective as well, Vazquez only faced them twice on the road, although solid, he also was more hittable there and FIVE times at home, which is his stronger spot.

Baker has matured as a starter, 3.70 ERA this season compared to 4.26 last year, and that's with his road starts weighing over in a 2:1 ratio this season.

So I definitely give the edge to Baker even though I would not scream in shock if I saw Vazquez pitch a quality start tonight, it's simply whether the Twins step up offensively (as per usual at home) or not.

Not sure if that 10-1 first game home off a road trip means anything to you but I think it's indicative. We've been hearing about 1st game off a road trip layoff, letdown, etc, but these guys love this spot.

Also my analysis of the White Sox lineup right now may not be including everything to a 100% extent but also think this is a huge thing to look out for (Dye's and Thome's slumps, no Quentin, no Crede, huge downgrade compared to what this team was 2 months ago, etc).

MIN still 25-10 last 35 home games, big in my book as well as Vazquez not being a solid road pitcher this season against good home teams. He has had a somewhat comfortable schedule compared to the brutal path of Baker.

Anyways, I appreciate the info, thanks fellas.

:shake:

Satyr,

That is a lot of good infomation and I would definitely lean to Min. coming home from a ten game road trip with a day of rest. The last road trip was fourteen games because of the convention and they were 5-9 which should have finished them. They won the first game at home 10-2 over Detroit with NO day off and then lost the next two at home vs Detroit. (Baker lost the second one of these but was leading 2-1 after 5 innings. I would say he might not have come back early and/or was tired.)

Again, I like all your reasonings and since I had NYY when they "gonged" Vasquez last outing, I have no reason not to go against him again!:shake:

Also think fading Lincecum is automatic with all the high pitch counts he has had lately. If he gets the Cy Young and doesn't breakdown, I'll just have to lose my money and tip my cap! :seeya:

Florida seems like an easy one today. What reasons could there be to bet on the Nats? Inferior pitching, longer losing streak, no incentive to play hard, being kicked around by the Fish all season long...

Hey everyone...really wanted to get in some discussion for my White Sox tomorrow. Honestly, I've never been a big fan of Javier Vazquez and never will be. It's sad to admit, but I do think Ozzie wasn't just trying to fire Javier up by saying he's not a "big game pitcher" but he was also stating a fact. This is a guy that tends to have awesome numbers against subpar teams like Kansas City but whenever you check his numbers against the better teams like Boston and New York, they always go up..hits..walks..home runs allowed. Biggest thing for him to be successful is he NEEDS to have a solid 1-2-3 first inning. That at least helps him get his mind right. But then again, I recall a "big game" earlier this year when he was facing the New York Yankees...think it was like the 3rd or 4th inning...at home...he got the first two guys out, then next thing you knew he walked back to back guys and gave up a hit...and the bases were loaded with 2 outs. He then gave up another hit and fell behind 1-0 before striking out Johnny Damon. Anyways, just using that as an example of how quickly Vazquez can go from being in the zone to way out of it. I've heard Joe Morgan comment on him numerous times always saying "Well when you look at him, he's got good stuff...and you wonder why his record is what it is..and why he hasn't had that much success so far in his career".

Betcrimes, really agree with your assessment of how the White Sox are approaching the series. Right now, the biggest thing for them is to just not get swept here in Minnesota. IF they are swept, the Twins gain 3 games right there and go up 0.5 in the division race. If they go 1-2 the Twins gain just 1 gain..the lead is still 1.5. And the plan from there would be to try go 2-1 against the Cleveland Indians in the season finale. If I had to guess it...I'd mark game 2 as their best shot to win in Minnesota as Mark Buehrle goes up against Nick Blackburn. Buehrle has been there and performed in the clutch for us and is coming off some pretty solid starts, while Blackburn (albeit is solid at home) is coming off a shitty road start at Tampa Bay.

Don't get me wrong, I would completely love to see Chicago go into Minnesota and sweep them 3-0 and wrap it up but I don't think that will happen..not with Vazquez. I ask anyone...when was the last "big" game for the Chicago White Sox...that Javier Vazquez came out and shut down his opponent?

Scott Baker has been the steadiest starter all year for Minnesota in my opinion. Yes he has a bad career record against the White Sox with a pretty big ERA and WHIP. However, if you look at the current White Sox players and their batting numbers against him...he has a decent shot against them here. Jim Thome is 2-14 (.183) and Jermaine Dye is 1-11 (.091). Paul Konerko is pretty good at 4-14 (.286) with 2 home runs however his knee is still bothering him a bit. Juan Uribe is 1-9 (0.111) and Nick Swisher is 2-9 (.222)...lol well my bad, that's about what Uribe's numbers are against everyone. The GOOD thing going for the White Sox lineup is the two guys that do seem to him Baker decent are Orlando Cabrera 8-18 (.444) and AJ Pierzynski 3-9 (.333) are the number 1 and 2 hitters in the batting order so hopefully they can set the table a bit.

Gun to my head...I'd take a small shot with Minny ML. Prolly staying away though, and just gonna cheer my ass off for my boys from the South.

Oh oh, and on a sidenote...one side that did catch my eye is the Kansas City Royals ML. Freddy Garcia is in his 2nd start since returning to the big leagues. He was on a pretty low pitch count in his recent start against Texas, not sure how much it will go up here. Kansas City always had decent numbers against him, and Greinke is having a very solid year. Detroit used quite a few arms out of the BP today also.

Guillen points to RHP Vazquez's faulty record in clutch

With 127 wins and 127 losses, Javier Vazquez's merit as a Hall of Fame pitcher won't be hotly debated when the 11-year veteran retires.
But Ozzie Guillen isn't going that far.
Guillen just points to the right-hander's past performances during big games -- or lack thereof -- even as the White Sox's manager is set to give Vazquez the ball on Tuesday for the start of a crucial three-game series against the AL Central-contending Twins.

Vazquez

Guillen

''He hasn't been," Guillen said Sunday of Vazquez as a big-game pitcher, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "That's the bottom line.''It's been four years since Vazquez's only postseason appearance, when he allowed five runs in five innings over three games for the Yankees, a result that continues to follow him.
''You know what? It's not going to [change a lot of opinions] because I'm really the type of guy that when I retire, I'm going to be home in Puerto Rico with my family,'' Vazquez told the Sun-Times on Saturday.
''I'm not looking to have to change minds if people feel that way," Vazquez said. "I won't be paying attention to that. If I do well or if I don't, I'll still go home at the end of my career and be the same person.''
Vazquez (12-14, 4.32 ERA) will face Twins right-hander Scott Baker (9-4, 3.69) in the series opener.
The White Sox lead the Twins by 2½ games.
''What you see is what you get,'' Guillen said of Vazquez. ''Javy is going to be Javy. I just want him to be aggressive, throw the ball over the plate and knock somebody on their [butt]. That's a big three games for us.
''You have to be mean. Go out there and show them we show up to play, show up to kick your guys' [butts]. And believe me, that will take care of itself."
White Sox players are accustomed to hearing from Guillen through the media.
In early June, Guillen went on a rant in Tampa after the White Sox lost three of four to the Rays, saying general manager Ken Williams should make changes if the team expected to keep winning.
But after Guillen and Williams met days later, the manager said the air between them was "as clear as it can be."
Others communiques from Guillen this season have included:
• Guillen claimed umpire Phil Cuzzi has a vendetta against him. He was later fined.
• In early May, he went on an obscenity-filled rant in Toronto during a winless road trip, saying Chicago fans and media forgot very quickly that the White Sox won the World Series in 2005.
• He caused a stir by saying Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente was only the third best player to come out of Puerto Rico, behind Ivan Rodriguez and Roberto Alomar.
• He had to defend the presence of inflatable dolls in the White Sox clubhouse in Toronto but refused to apologize.
• He offered his opinion on what sells in baseball -- craziness -- saying Cubs manager Lou Piniella was well-liked for a variety of reasons. "Why do you think they like Lou Piniella? Because Lou is good? Great guy. Great baseball people. But people love Lou Piniella because he's ... up!"
• He cleared up a public disagreement with Orlando Cabrera after the shortstop twice phoned the press box this season to lobby for a scoring change.
"Sometimes I create my own problems, too. I'm not going to make any excuses," Guillen said in June. "That's the way I am. That's me. I'm going to say what I have to say. Some people say the same stuff I say, but they don't get attacked like I do."

If I as to pick how this series goes, it'd be

- Minny wins 1 game by 2-4 runs where both teams score/Over (6-4/7-5)

- Minny wins a game by 5+ runs where the WS offensive effort is limp/Over (9-2/10-1)

- WS wins a tight 1-2 run game totaling 5-7 runs/Under (3-2/4-3)

On paper it'd seem game 2's match-up aligns to a tight WS result, so my lean for game 1 is Over since from my pov a Minny win equals greater run scoring, and Vazquez on paper is the worst WS starter they face. Need to see line moves & Ump in a few hours to firm up my ideas.

of statistical interest -

yesterday in the AL, Unders went 5-0
Since June 1st (generally the point where Under's "grip" on the seasonal results ended in both leagues), there has only been 4 other instances of Under winning an AL day by 4 or more results. Over results have come out ahead in 3 of the 4 following days (by 3-1, 6-1 & 6-1) and there's been 1 tie (on a small shcedule day, 1-1) for an overall mark of 16-4 (75%).

Since June 1st, there has only been 3 other instances of Under winning a day (in either league) by 5 or more results. Over results have come out ahead in all 3 of the following days (6-1, 7-2, 4-3-1) for an overall mark of 17-6-1 (70.8%).

Finally, this is the first time since June 1st that Overs have not won a single day in either league over 3 straight days (26-10-2 to Under last 3 days, 5 Under wins & 1 tie).

In my language, it all adds up to being careful about betting AL Unders Wednesday.

Moose just plumbeted back to -110 after being at -118 in a matter of minutes...

Anyone have a scoop?

OH NO !! jo-jo reyes in for atlanta now .

mike hampton scratched like between your legs on the drive home in the morning after a one night stand with rebecca the barfly....

here are my plays tonight. hit an 11:1 4 team parlay last night and hit the SD -3/ ov 39.5 teaser in nfl. im betting the teams i know best tonight.
Chc @ nym : i bet cubs ML and over 8.5 as part of the 4 teamer. tonight im rollin w/ johan and under 8. these line don't really reflect what the market should be. i would think -210 and 8.5 total would be fair. i think they are trying to sucker som money in on cubs and over and ill have to fade it. cubs have the luxury to take this game off (mentally at least) and i hope the mets don't put up too many on marshall to get over the total. but just viewing the line you would think johan will be on.

cws @ min : im fadin my own team and hittin min ML and under 5 1st 5 innings. i dont really wanna fuck w/ these bullpens at all and most books have the 4.5 total on the 1st 5 which is too damn low and i think this game will be quickly pitched early and then it will be a good battle w/ the home team comin up in the clutch. it's all good we have a cushion..

lets get some thoughts going on the only early game here.. Garret Olson has compiled over a 12ERA his last two outings but seemed like he got settled in after getting hit for 3ER last time out. Shields is obviously the more reliable here, but he was also belted last time out...he however sucked it up and still went 7ip despite the loss. See a tampa win here in a slugfest...not much else i can give here..

i know it's shit writeups compared to these other men, but i have a good feel lately, and i research all the stats and shit but just don't wanna look em up after i did already. ahah

TB seems to be coasting the past 2 days but O's really havent done much of anything past few weeks . I faded them yesterday taking TB ML and -1.5 which they barely did enough to cover . If O's face anymore LHSP I will fade them as they are now 15-32 and hitting even less then they were . Also falet Balt had a long ass day on Sunday with NYY closing the Stadium and then had to fly back to Balt after ended so they couldnt have got in before say 4 AM and sure they went to the park real early on Sunday . Its also the end of the season guys are drained and they flew to Tor then to NYY after that without any days off I believe . Now back home and play a DH another long ass day . Have to think 1 of these games they get smoked ....

with such a low total, i'm getting 7.5 right now, and the mets bull pen late int he game, i may take the over, 8 is not a hard number for the mets to put up either, just look at yesterday and what the cubs did.. gluck

Tampa is 2-9 last 11 away against a left hander. This is the fifth time Shields has faced this team this year and the second for Olson. I have posted on Olson at home in the day previously. Not sure where I am going here but very unsure about betting here.

Tough to weigh these games . Dont have much interest in laying -160 with TB or even taking the RL because I cant imagine O's even do anything then send out the " scrubs" for game 2 . Gonna probably just look at Game 2 or maybe Take Balt +1.5 game 1 ....

Really hard to want to lay -160 /-170 away here especially seeing 2-11 L13 away vs LHSP. The only good run they had vs LHSP away was when Pena was out and Aybar played a bigger role cause the differences were HUGE in the splits vs LHSP.

Balt lineup is kinda thin but still may take them +1.5 here ......not sure...UND seems like a layup but almost seems to easy here ...

no under seems easy to me with Olson on the mound and shields on the road... i know the splits tampa has on lefties, but the quality of the pitcher is a concern to me as well as the pen.

the rays historically own balti as well, and then comes in the pen with guys like rock cherry and cormier. No one is anywhere near decent other then johnson and sherill... I'm gonna have to think that rays take game 1 and balti tries to scavenge game 2..

I'm going to hold my nose and play the first 5 under.. Tried but it's too hard to over-ride the splits against lefties as well as the balti pen..the only play that i can make without feeling like i want to throw up..

Three of the past 5 away for TB vs LHSP they were SHUTOUT by Lester , Harrison and Purcey . Balt has only scored more then

TB 227 away all season vs LHP and .207 L10 but thats never very indicative IMO unless they faced a few LHSP.

Balt L7 games they scored 3 or less in 6 and the other had 1 big inning .

Balt L8 games has allowed 3 , 0 , 8 , 3 , 3 , 1 , 7 and 4 runs

L10 meetings Balt has scored 4 or less in 8 of them but also has lost 9 straight in the series ...

Lets see what happens...GL

SN....did you end up taking BAL +1.5? Us against the world haha :smiley_acbe:

Small plays here +1.5 , Under 9.5 , Under 5.5 and parlayed +1.5 with under 9.5 for 2.5 to 1 .

Sheilds L4 @ Camden -
W 5-2 , W5-4 , L1-0 and L3-2 ....hopefully twilght comes into play and the sun goes down much earlier now...

BOL bro !

And the Prop bet hits......

@SN, if you bet on your leans this season and not talked yourself out of many bets, you'd be rich enough to buy a LEXUS!!!

Tell me about bro. I said that to myself this weekend ...Glad someone else notice's because I wonder sometimes if I am just BS myself into thinking the plays I pass on or just miss getting in on hit at a ridiculous rate .

Unfortunately the wheels are coming off here in the T5th....:shake:

Nah i notice 'em bro...there was a time i was like is this guy shitting me:whip:your leans as well as fondy's were hitting at a ridiculous rate but you weren't betting 'em:seeya:

Seattle 1st score prop of the game +120
Over 3.5 runs Seattle (see Weaver at SEA 4times he alone allowed at least 4 runs in 6 starts and past 8 times he faced SEA regardless of how he pitched SEA score 4 or more in 7 of them)
Under 9 Wash - Oslen solid success vs WASH , Nats 2-11 L13 and 3-16 L19 at home vs LHSP , Mantis achilles is LHBs and he faces just 3 here but alson K9 in 5 innings @ FLA....lean Wash but cant get that LHP stat out of my head ....also lean Wash 1st score ....

Not much else thinking KC ML and not thats about it ...time to play Hoops !BOL

Am I the only one who rather than seeing a lot of value on Lee, a lot of value on the BoSox tonight? The guy has been lights out away, at night, every which way possible this year so far, but historically hasn't fared well vs Boston. Sox to clinch a playoff spot at Even money a night after they leave 12 guys on with their most tenured starter on the mound looks tasty...

I kinda liked Boston here because teams have been fucking up there 1st game at home to clinch and winning the next it seems. I just dont like BOS vs LHSP - Manny and Lowell as its not Bays cup of tea ....:shake:

sn, i would not fade weaver right now. he is on the cusp of being the 5th pitcher for playoffs. He is going to be dialed in and trying his ass off. Especially with garland being lit up last outing, a good performance here would lock his spot..
