Baltimore's last 48 games of offense -

11, 2, 9, 2, 5, 7, 5, 7, 10, 3, 10, 6, 8, 5, 7, 1, 1, 5, 7, 11, 1, 8, 8, 1, 1, 5, 6, 5, 13, 7, 3, 10, 3, 4, 5, 3, 4, 9, 9, 7, 8, 5, 6, 11, 11, 3, 16 & 3 run totals.

_7 totals of 0-2 runs.
_8 totals of 3-4 runs.
33 totals of 5+ runs (68.75%)

Their current 23 game streak of scoring at least 3 runs is their longest this season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore has gone 72 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 48-20-4 to Over during this period (Unders rate of just 27.8%), and are 18-0-2 to Over off their last 20 Under results.

Anybody unfamiliar with Mr C.Richard starting for the WS Tuesday...

13 IP for 15 ERs (WHIP 2.54, ERA 10.38)

I haven't really started delving, but my surface opinions for a couple of games are -

Baltimore I was/am expecting to hit the wall offensively, since 2 of their totals recently have really come down to late inning efforts vs shit relievers hiding the fact they're almost at that wall. Monday's result suggests they further along the road to meeting that wall, and since Dice-K - outside of one blowup outing - has 13 IP for 1 ER against them, I'll consider the Sox in some way, shape or form (& maybe even the Under).

I think it very unlikely Tampa & LAA go 3 straight Overs, so with an Over on the board Monday it's time to consider the prime spot for an Under there.

Toronto is worth delving into, esp. in light of how popular (or not) the Yankees get. The mindset of the Yankees being in a must win situation (from here on out) and being nice +odds will surely lead to the obvious happening.

Since July the 6th, the Chicago Cubs are...

- 23-2 SU in games which they've scored at least 3 runs (20-5 to Over)

- 0-10 SU in games which they've scored 2 runs or less (9-1 to Under)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicago's last 24 games of all-or-nothing offense -

10, 6, 2, 2, 9, 6, 7, 7, 11, 0, 5, 8, 0, 11, 11, 3, 3, 6, 10, 8, 11, 6, 1 & 9 run totals.

_5 totals of 0-2 runs
_2 totals of 3-4 runs
17 totals of 5+ runs (70.8%)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Capping a side for their games has been as straightforward as simply concerning yourself with how their offense will go.

Since July the 21st, the Texas Rangers are...

- 9-3 SU in games which they've scored at least 6 runs (10-1-1 to Over)

- 2-13 SU in games which they've scored 5 runs or less (9-6 to Under)

Holy Crap. . . What a Fugly card.

Only large dogs I could make a case for are the Stro's and Padres. . . and the Padres are a large stretch.

If anyone is thinking of taking a day off, tomorrow might be a fine opportunity.

Texas has hit the wall and is slowly falling apart. Pretty confident the tigers win this series . Which means they win one of the next two. They havent even hit really . Take away Gary Waters and the red Sox kid when they explode dback to back days very little ...

what is funny is the jays are only 2 games back of the yanks

I have exactly one dollar to win $500 on Toronto to win the World Series and you can get all you want probably at +20000 on matchbook currently. Meanwhile, the Yanks are +1050. Does that make any sense?

Looking at :

Philly ML : Mostly fade WASH idea . Nats are now 3-18 L21 away vs RHSP ( Cook , Jimenez and Jurrjens ) which started when they defeated Owings @ Zona( doesnt include 7-6 win vs knuckleballer Dickey) . They are 9-15 at home vs RHSP in that stretch as well (ecluding game 2 of DH started by Parisi of STL who isjust not a ML pitcher IMO).

Away vs RHSP:
1 0 6 9 0 2 0 4 8 6 5 2 0 3 2 5 2 1 1 0 0

7x they scored 4 or more runs (3 wins and 3 losses vs Coreria , Tucker of FLA and Hudson)
8x they scored 3 or more runs
13 x they scored 2 or less
9x they scored 1 or None

Bergmann -

Phillies arent hitting well so big numbers are scary but what has Was shown ? They have lost 10 straight but concerned as Bergmann is off a terrible start but wonder is he healthy ??

On 6 days Bergmann has 9 starts which are divided into 4 very soplid efforts and 5 fairly terrible ones ....5 bad ones 37 runs and 27 earned in 21.2 inn 41 H 13bb 9Ks the other 4 though 25.2 innn 6r but 4earned 21 h ....two extremes ...

Hard to pass on fading WASH at this point and FLores may be out ...

Others ;

Mets ML or 1st 5 Inn ML : Ollie Perez throwing well and ATL didnt hit Zito today after showing signs vs LH recently . Braves in a terrible funk defeating only the SF youngster recently ...obvious why I would prefer the 1st 5 inn ML- Mets BULLPEN!

Milw ML / -1.5 RL: As I said earlier MILW should win this series and may even sweep . have to look at it closer but the lean is based on feeling strongly MILW gets a WIN here or the next day which is a rematch of a home loss...(which might keep me off Sheets)

STL ML : Snell has to show alot more improvement on the road but does have a good history @ STL. Just seeing to much offense issues with Pitt and these guys NEED A DAY OFF !

SD Over maybe Zona ML : Price absurd but SD doesnt score much at all vs LHSP . Davis has been bad since almost throwing a no no vs SD ..

LAD - Jimenez has slumped last few and need to see him turn around it around before I back him. LAD steadily improving but questionable pen IMO .

FLA- ML : Probably a strong play but waiting to digest the info. First thing is SF played well @ ATL maybe coming home over confident . Correria has shown alot improvement lately but still basically talking a top of the rotation SP vs a #5 SP. SD had to fly WEST after a 4:30 start in ATL......

KC ML - Still dont care vs CLE lineup or bullpen but like Reyes . However for 2 fairly equal teams and SP -180 seems crazy ...

Boston ML - Confident Boston wins this series as well either here or Wed . With Bucholz on Wed this is a great spot then. Looking at the UNDER as well ...

Yanks @ Jays- Tough one . Both off offensive OUTBURSTS does either sustain it ? Probably not . Burnett when ON is tough vs the Yanks and Rasner is serviceable and the pen had a day off . Under maybe ? Would play NYY if the price ran higher ...

Same deal with TB as I think they win the series and have Garza dealing vs Weaver after this. Just a matter of whch one they take IMO....

As I mentioned feel DET wins this series but Game 3 could be better spot. Robertson is mean but Texas doesnt hit LHSP well .

Twins ML- A's snuck out a win with a better SP and probably wont do it again. Slowley was very good vs NYY ...Gallagher labored in his return

Under @ SEA -MAYBE - Mariners have been losing almost every game by an opposing LHSP . It just doesnt seem Richard a top prospect is ML ready but he faced some tough lineups unlike SEA who has started to hit some and with a tired pen and banged up rotation is on a nice OVER run.....Hard to pass On King Felix but maybe 1st 5 inn only....

It does in the sense NY has made the postseason since 95 and has a history of "coming back" . Tor has no such history and no reason to believe they are capable of doing it . So why pay for something you have no reason to believe can happen ? Is the spread bewteen the two teams justified ? Probably not but it should be fairly off weighted IMO and really how much money is TOR attracting on that prop ? Also Yanks are underacheiving and battling injuries while Tor is doing what is expected basically ......

Its basically wasted money IMO. TOR chances of WINNING the WORLD SERIES is 0.00 % . Of course a dollar is nothing to worry about but dont see much reason to fuck with it.

Watch come October wins the Series and I'll eat crow ....:shake:

There are so many bad teams right now with crap SP these lines going forward are gonna be crazy . CC is getting close to a LOSS IMO. Next solid opponent I might look to fade ...

Washington also 0-15 SU their last 15 vs teams with winning records.

And 3-22 SU their last 25 vs right handers on teams w/winning records (at all venues - all 3 wins at home)

going to be tough avoiding betting these high favs on the -1.5, some of these teams are so outmatched it is ridiculous. seattle's bullpen is absolutely atrocious and they only have one starter capable of holding the other team to under 5 runs, but even that is a bad bet at -110 on the road.

In 16 games with the Red Sox, Jason Bay is batting .348 with three homers and 16 RBIs. Manny who?

Boston is 4-3 SU on the road vs Baltimore this season, and 3-12 SU on the road vs all other AL East teams.

SEA at -105 is REALLY tempting right now...

It is ...scared by SEA 1-7 L8 away vs LHSP and 2-4 at home since cutting Sexson. Only wins vs Laffey now in AAA , Glen Perkins who blew a 6-0 lead and @ Texas vs Matt Harrison . So Richard fits comfortably in that category . My major concern is SEA pen though they cant get anyone out .....I am sure I will play it some fashion:shake:

Actually Sea was 3-0 vs LHSP in IL but 1-6 vs the AL before this stretch( beat DiNardo 8-1) . Theyhave shown signs of life offensively vs LHSP lately bt 2-13 away vs AL LHSP ....question is Mr.Richards is he a Major League Picther at this point ?

That Rangers total is too high. We've really been struggling hitting lately. Kinsler not leading off really hurts. Padilla is very capable of putting in a 6 inning 3 run type performance. Gallaraga has something to prove to the Rangers. Basically I think at least one of the pitchers will have a decent outing which should be enough to bring this under 11.

SN,

i don't think Richard is good enough for this level at this point. I would have taken the first 5, prolly paying a higher juice, but it's not up at the book i'm temporarily at and I figured i'd bite because everything is action with no choices which makes me think they're not revolutionary enough to change my -105 wager.

...good luck to you tomorrow and i'm glad you're with me

...on another note, BC do you have any stats for teams being dogs on the ML but favorites on the RL 'cuz they're laying -1.5? It seems rare to me, but i have been kept off of plays because of this and wondered if it's something to fear or not...

Would say though before today he did mostly nothing . 1Hr 12 Rbi in 15 games ....

Manny best hitter in the game IMO no one even close . Pujols a solid #2 . In terms of having to face a hitter in a clutch situation...toughest out IMO. This oming from a Yankee fan as well

Manny since the deal :
25/59 6hrs 21 RBI .424avg 1.294 OPS also 16 games

Bigger issues with Boston :
Ortiz wrist , Lowell on the DL and now Drew leaves them with Youk and Bay with Pedroia leadoff and not much else.......

:shake:Still think they win the SERIES @ BALT .....

both could give up 3 runs or less but it won't matter because there is guys like kyle farnsworth and jamey wright to throw batting practice

I said that today . It was 3-0 to start the 7th and finished 8-7 with an 11.5 !

My cons would be Galarraga much better in day starts and doesnt go dep into games that often which means enter the BULLPEN ! Padilla not 100% healthy is concening but he could very well do what you said ......

Just bitter from today . Any LH vs Texas is a good matchup and Feldman has been solid at home while DET has struggled vs RHSP away all season. Knew it would be a competitive solid effort from each and was even 1-0 half way through the game !

Texas pen showing some ware as well ..just might have to stick to 1st 5 inn UNDERS withthese 2:cheers:

Yeah he probably isnt but in his defense he faced Texas at home in his ML debut and 2 teams in the Central known for beating up LHs in Minny and KC. Royals smoked Buerhle the following day and twins like 13-1 or something like that at home vs LHP past few months ...Sea if they hadnt hit some vs LH recently would concern me ...

As for your question to BC . Its nothing to be scared off . They work on spread . Typically home teams will be about 85 cents cheaper but some vary where a RUN is less important or more important. Meaning if teams rarely play 1 ruin games due to high offensive outputs the spread may be shorter say 75 cents or 70 ...if the team is always in 1 run games like OAK or SD then its more valuable and might see spreads around a dollar. Also the higher the ML spreads go above 200 the wider the spread becomes...you will usually see those slightily above 1 dollar spreads..

So a 220 ML fav IMO tends to be about -120 RL it could vary a few cents with tihghter books......

Of course road chalk has shorter spreads from RL to ML because the home team gets to hit in the b9th ...those tend to be about 55 or 60 cents ....:shake:

BOL as well

Manny since the deal :
25/59 6hrs 21 RBI .424avg 1.294 OPS also 16 games

Manny is facing NL pitching - had he stayed he'd not only have not put up those LA figures for BOS, it's arguable he'd not have put up Bay's figures (simply because his attitude wasn't there).

BOS 11-5 SU to LA's 10-6 SU in that timeframe, having played 8 road games (4 vs teams w/winning records, 5-3 SU) to LA's 6 (3 vs teams with winning records, 2-4 SU). Seems Bay has made a diff to Boston's road woes (he won them their game Monday offensively speaking), while Manny has made none to LA's in turn.

Manny who?

I disagree Boston hasnt played anyone...Texas and Oak at home (2 borderline 500 teams in tailspins) and went 6-0 big deal ...a medicore Tor team whipped them at home .

I do agree Manny would not have put up those numbers in Boston because of his attitude just see 2007 . Even facing NL pitching he has been impressive. Bay faced the same NL pitching and nothing close to that level (282 22 64 in 393abs). Also the pitching Bay has faced in Boston is a JOKE . He should have much better numbers facing a bunch of guys who dont belong on the majors. Tonight impressive I agree but 1 Hr 12 rbi in 15 games previously vs clowns?? Not impressive vs those names.

JD (W2-1), Eveland, Braden
Meche ( L4-3), Hovechar , Bannister
Buerhle (L5-3) , Contreras , Floyd (L6-5) Danks (w5-1)
Feldman , Hunter , Mendoza
Halladay (L4-1) , Marcum (L15-4)
Guthrie (W6-3)

Manny cant close for LAD who blew 2 games in SF and they first played @ STL so 2-4 could be 5-1 and the loss Lowe couldnt hold an early lead . Before today Sox had lost 3 of 4 away vs quality SP and the win they were getting No hit for 6 innings ...beat Contreras off the DL , Hovecgar and Bannister who lost 15-6 yesterday .

Until today there has been no improvement other then relief in Boston . They are 3-5 vs quality SP since the deal .

Manny faced :
Unit (L2-1), Petit , Davis
@Carpenter (L6-4 in extras), Piniero , Lohse (w)
@Zito , Correria(Lb10th) , Cain (Lb9th)
Kendrick , Hamels , Blanton , Myers
Parra , Bush , Suppan

Manny faced 2 SP who are 5 SP material in Petit and Correria while Bay faced 7 not to mention Fenway much better place to hit for a RHN , much better . His IMPACT has been huge . No one really concerns themselves with Bay hitting 6th I believe ....

Just disagree...Boston had to trade him no doubt but he is irreplaceable and pray he comes to the Yanks to say FUCK YOU to the Red Sox Organization . They can even have ARod....

Manny is just Manny ....................:tiphat:LAD are a real threat now especially if they get there pitching together ...

This says hw important Bay has been to Boston :

vs Texas 37 runs scored in the series his part 4-12 1 double 0Hrs and 4 RBI.....

Bay @ Chicago 4 games and 1st game @ KC ---4/22 no xbhs 3rbi 9bb 8ks
@ Bannister and @ Hovechar 6-10 2 doubs 2 rbi.....

1st big game took 16 games ......

Sportsnut I am leaning Pads/Dbacks under 9.5,Royals/Indians under 9 and Braves/Mets under 9.5. I think the Royals/Tribe game total moves up to 9.5 so I am waiting. What you think.Been cold bro.

Last 10 times Minn lost and then played at home they are 10-0. Think Sean has started and lost 10 road games this season. Unlike the Monday game the Twins have the best of the pens Tuesday and while I can imagine Oakland putting up a fight Wednesday just doubt it Tuesday. Very hard to fade teams like Tampa and Minn that are starving for the playoffs.

Manny cant close for LAD who blew 2 games in SF

if LA's offense puts up more than 2 (vs Correia?) & 4 run totals vs a hopeless SFN team then it doesnt matter if their closers give up a couple of runs.

Of course Manny has made an impact, LA was so feeble offensively he couldn't not have. We'll see how LA goes when the NL starts to give Manny the Barry treatment, and walks him 3-4 times a game. I'm suprised they're not doing it already - just 10 walks in 16 games? Barry down a season stretch would be close to 20-30 over such a span.
I still fancy AZ to win that division, even sans Hudson & Byrnes - better road record & more home games left to play than LA.

Bay faced the same NL pitching and nothing close to that level (282 22 64 in 393abs).

Bay was on a loser team going nowhere which, day-in-&-out, would naturally affect anyone not simply happy to collect their paycheck. I can only imagine what he'd have managed against NL pitching with his present attitude, backed by the players he now has around him.

They are 3-5 vs quality SP since the deal .

Boston was 2-6 SU their last 8 games vs quality pitching before Manny left. 3-5 aint great but it trumps 2-6, therefore can only be considered an improvement.
Boston was also 7-3 SU their last 10 games vs "dud teams" before Manny left, they're 9-1 SU against them since he left. Again 9-1 trumps 7-3, another improvement. Toronto has the best pitching staff ERA in the MLB, is all but the Yankees equal in the standings, and has a record as good as Arizona & Manny's LA Dodgers, by my count that doesn't make for a dud/feeble team.

Angels
Blue Jays
Cardinals
and.....the ever popular Royals!! ROFL...Seriously though look at their numbers against Clev's pitcher...worth at shot at +160 for maybe half your usual play...

WHIP 1.48, ERA 4.07

In Boston's sole loss, they were playing their 10th & last game of a road trip, and had some CF stiff called Van Every batting 9th (responsible for 2 of the 3 Ks).

James Shields has quite the home/away dichotomy going for Tampa Bay, no better highlighted than comparing his efforts vs the Angels & Red Sox combined -

at home vs LAA+BOS: 24 IP for 2 ERs (0.75 ERA, avg 0.33 hits/inning)

away vs LAA+BOS: 12.2 IP for 17 ERs (12.07 ERA, avg 1.81 hits/inning)

Overall this season a 2.21 home ERA vs 5.84 road ERA.

If you didn't know the Cardinals pitching was bad....

Though the Cardinals are still just two games behind the Brewers for the NL wild card, red flags abound with their pitching:

• The Cardinals bullpen can be trouble: Opponents’ OPS after the sixth inning is .786, more than 60 points higher than league average.

• Right-handed Nos. 3 and 4 hitters give Cardinals pitching fits: They’re batting .336.

• Cardinals pitchers strike out 32% of hitters whom they get to two strikes, worst in the NL and 4.5% lower than league average.

• Since July 1, no NL team has given up more home runs than the Cardinals’ 56.

PLAYOFFS ODDS REPORT

AccuScore ran 10,000 simulations of the remainder of the 2008 baseball season – and so few of them showed scenarios in which the Angels didn’t make they playoffs, they simply rounded up to 100 percent. The rest of the AL playoff race has three spots for four teams, with the Blue Jays – currently in fourth place in the AL East – actually a better longshot than the Yankees.

Aside from the Cubs, who have the NL Central locked up, the race is wide open. Milwaukee, likely the wild-card team, is actually in the second-best position, according to AccuScore, and the Mets and Diamondbacks are favorites in the East and West.

American League
Los Angeles Angels ......... 100.0 percent
Tampa Bay Rays .............. 94.9 percent
Boston Red Sox* ............. 69.9 percent
Chicago White Sox .......... 67.6 percent

The Yankees’ hallmark this season, their inconsistency, is most evident in an inability to string together long stretches of top-notch play. Their best 38-game stretch came recently, when they went 25-13. Let’s assume, best-case scenario, they finish the year on such a stretch. They’ll have 91 wins.

Boston would need to go 19-19 over its final 38 games to fall short of 91. The Red Sox’s worst such stretch this year? Nineteen wins, 19 losses, and it happened just once.

With the Rays, a collapse that would enable the Yankees to eclipse them is simply not happening. Tampa would need to finish 15-24 over its last 39 games to lose to a 91-win New York team, and Tampa’s lowest point over 39 games this season is 22-17, which sounds rather Yankee-like.

To be blunt: The Yankees are a half-game closer to second-place Boston than they are to last-place Baltimore.

The Yankees rank 22nd in on-base-plus-slugging with runners in scoring position.

any thoughts on the yanks v jays? and the rasner and burnett matchup?

i know the yanks has been struggling and been on and off and the jays are doing way better than expected, also the pitching match up favors the jays, but i have some weird gut feel the yanks squeeks this in

and correct if im wrong and if i am not mistaken, matsui will return as dh

any thoughts on this game? any value on rasner? thanks

Burnett/Toronto is 4-0 vs the Yanks the last 2 seasons, having pitched 16.1 innings at home for 13 baserunners & 3 ERs surrendered (WHIP 0.80, ERA 1.65). His dominance over them extends further back, but thats the time frame I take most interest in.

Toronto has 1 loss in 6 games, a loss that was clearly a throwaway effort.

Rasner has given up 25 ERs his last 35 IP (6.43 ERA). He put in, on paper, an passable effort in Toronto earlier this season (5 IP for 3 ERs) until you realise Toronto scored 4 runs in the 1st (2 triples as XB hits) but Litsch in turn (via a couple of errors) had 8 of the 10 baserunners he gave up score inside the 1st 3 Yankee innings, momentum which obviously swamped the BJs psychologically so they didn't again score off Rasner.

New York has 1 win in regulation innings over their last 9 games.

Are the Yankees paying enough in light of these facts?

great stuff, loud and clear

In 16 games with the Red Sox, Jason Bay is batting .348 with three homers and 16 RBIs. Manny who?

Boston is 4-3 SU on the road vs Baltimore this season, and 3-12 SU on the road vs all other AL East teams.

Jason Bay hit TWO homers yesterday with one man on driving in four RBI's. It was a fluke that the total hit nine as four runs were scored in the 8th and two in the top of the ninth. (3-0 after five innings).

JD Drew did not play and with Lowell on DL and Manny gone, this game today has a good chance for the under especially if Drew is out again. Nine looks like a very high number, but there were four homeruns hit yesterday. Umpire and wind direction could make a strong play if favorable!

On second thought, the Sox have hit Cabrera very well and Bay not included. Birds have not hit Dice K, so not quite as confident until further info.

How is hitting two homeruns a fluke...Games are 9 innings, it doesn't matter how teams score....the 6 runs let up in the last two innings, shows that baltimores pen is just terrible and that they, the pen, can't keep it close for their hitters and ultimately keep their team in the game....cabrera is horrible

The fluke part was that 6 runs were scored in one and one-half inning, four by Baltimore and 2 by RS. The AL hasn't caught up with Jason Bay yet. It will be interesting to see if he can adjust once they do! Same thing applies to Manny with LAD. Right now Bay looks like a great pickup, but even with his great production, the RS are much weaker.

Gasro, you are must not have paid attention to the previous match up if you think Cabrera is horrible. You should have checked the boxscore on 7/13 for Bal/RS and see who the pitchers were and who was in the lineups before making that ridiculous statement! :36_11_6:.

3 and 4 in his last 7 giving up 71 hits, 36 earned runs, 29 base on balls, and 31 strike outs..hardly impressive, sure he had an impressive outing last time against the RS, but it still ended in a loss... in 2008 he is 1-1 with a 4.63 era, his career stats against the red sox are 2-10 with a 6.81era..hardly impressive for me..mix that with dice k 1-1 against the orioles with a 5.17 era and add in the over trend with balitmore(care of bc)..the runs should come in.....so yes, i think that danny isn't all that..just my $0.02

had balt +6 and figured starting pitcher would keep me in the game .
he did , orioles fought back but the pen gave it up again...
matsuzaka held balty to little last time out?
on the road this time . can he do it again ? drew out ? where's that wind ?
sittin at 9 .
shit . whats balty's record to over the next game after a push ?
prolly not the same after an under , bastards and blunders where's my sandwhich i'm plastered and hungered....

Blue Chip: I have been fading the A's & Reds for about 3.5 weeks now & it has been $$$, I have Bet Crimes to thank for it, one of his post in the 2nd week of July caught my eye. The A's & Reds are now 10-37 between them, the line does not mean a thing when they continue to lose at this rate. Another team that should be added as a team to fade till seasons end is the Nationals who are 0-10 last 10 thru Sunday.
