Since July the 6th, the Chicago Cubs are...

- 18-2 SU in games which they score at least 3 runs (15-5 to Over)

- 0-9 SU in games which they score 2 runs or less (8-1 to Under)

Capping a side for their games has been as straightforward as simply concerning yourself with how their offense will go.

Detroit's last 30 games of offense -

9, 8, 6, 2, 5, 4, 6, 4, 10, 5, 19, 7, 7, 5, 6, 6, 0, 8, 14, 4, 2, 2, 5, 8, 1, 8, 2, 10, 6 & 2 run totals.

_6 totals of 0-2 runs.
_4 totals of 3-4 runs.
20 totals of 5+ runs (66.6%)

They are 9-1-1 to Over off their last 11 Under results.

Outside of facing Oakland('s dogshit offense), Detroit has conceded at least 4 runs in 13 of their last 14 games.

Harden will go to 180+ quickly

Kershaw has my attention.. Getting better and better. Opposite Hamels is tough though.

Pretty cheap Linecum but should be vs Oswalt and surging Stros.

Surprised at the Lohse line a bit.. Cards lineup tommorow with Glaus rested and now healthy Ankiel is going to be nasty.. Check Pujols coming off very poor showing-- Always comes back strong.

Just a few random thoughts

Baltimore's last 41 games of offense -

11, 2, 9, 2, 5, 7, 5, 7, 10, 3, 10, 6, 8, 5, 7, 1, 1, 5, 7, 11, 1, 8, 8, 1, 1, 5, 6, 5, 13, 7, 3, 10, 3, 4, 5, 3, 4, 9, 9, 7 & 8 run totals.

_7 totals of 0-2 runs.
_6 totals of 3-4 runs.
28 totals of 5+ runs (68.3%)

Their current 16 game streak of scoring at least 3 runs is their longest this season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore has gone 65 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 43-18-4 to Over during this period, and are 16-0-2 to Over off their last 18 Under results.

Off topic but any thoughts on the Russia -Croatia game ?

I'll fill this post with some Baseall thoughts at some point ....have to love the edit option.

Make this useless post disappear ...

Like FLA ML tmrw alot ...that is right now...

BASEBALL -

Actually would be very interested in the REDS ML as well. Vozquez is sort of pissed with the attention his slump is getting and his workload . So he may face a weak lineup with a chip on his shoulder . The Reds can move forward I think knowing Dunn and Jr are gone . Though some vet SP can go I guess . Big reason is Karstens off the near perfect game and 2 solid starts in his Pitt career really sets up for a poor showing IMO. Pressure of impressions for a new franchise and fan base plus the HIGH of a no-no last outing possibly reversed . As well as the pressure one feels to duplicate that outing .......Both lineups pretty weak and reds had the day off while Pitt plays 3rd city in 3 days ...Philly to Queens to Pitt is some decent travel especially when you came from Arizona IMO...Pitt pen been worked as well...and of course Pitt stole a game they had NO business winning....

Yankees on Tuesday will be off being shutout on Monday.

They are 6-1 SU, averaging 6.28 runs/game, off their 7 previous shutouts this season (only loss to Boston). For the 6 wins, their average winning margin is 4.66 runs.

good info BC. :shake:

i'm not sure how you can fade Karstens right now, nor can i play Volquez again after his shitshow against Milwaukee last week.

...i think 8.5 is an awfully high number for the Yanks-Twins with those pitchers

someone pointed out this trend at blankets -

the Giants are 0-18 SU the game before Lincecum's last 18 starts, and are 3-21 SU before all his starts this season.

He must have been after Correia for awhile who was like 1-10 his 1st 11 starts. Then the had Misch in his place and he didnt win a start. So that basically explains that trend.....

LEANS_

Reds ML: So far his picthing issues havent really followed him on the road . Pitt as I said 3rd city in 3 days and after a 9 game 3 city trip well really 4 city 10 game trip..they went from Zona on Thursday to Philly to NY after Sundays game back to Pitt...and they stole a win so they must give it back....

ATL ML : We saw what a healthier lineup can do @ Arizona . Harden off arough start means I dont trust him here . Tons of LH bats for ATL . Morton is very solid vs RHBs and like Milw and Zona before the Cubs have alot of RHBs. Cubs are below 500 on the road vs RHP and laying to much

FLA ML: I may have jumped the gun some saying I have a strong lean to FLA. Truth is I have work to do here but looking for the chances of tehse teams to split games 2 and 3 with an eye if FLA in Game 4 with Olsen. Lohse is a 6 inn pitcher on the road...

Mets price is at least 50 cents to high with this pen . Only thing is Nats worn out from last week IMO. There pen is used as well. Might lead to an unexpected over. Nats can hit LHP some but so can Mets . Wonder if NY bounces back here but tough to lay this price....

Looking ast SFG ML since I prefer HOUS in game 3 ...Lincecum doesnt hirt vs a RH lineup either..

COL playing like shit , Jiminez had his rythymn broken with the exytra rest so can he bounce back? Unit dealing lately but COL does well vs LHP at home...

CLE ML but concernd 2nd game after long road trip. Sowers pretty solid of late and Nalt in the road has been weak vs LHPs

Yanks ML; Thought NY could be a little flat after the LAA series in Game 1 . Moose is the ace at the moment ......

A's ML: Day off and back home - fresh start IMO> Kaz just struggling lately . TB had been poor vs LHP away loses Longoria and Crawford as well ...OAK solid record at home vs LHSP.......

Thats all so far

He must have been after Correia for awhile who was like 1-10 his 1st 11 starts. Then the had Misch in his place and he didnt win a start. So that basically explains that trend.....

for the current streak -

Sanchez 5 times
Cain 4 times
Misch 5 times
Correia 4 times

Correria 1-9 1st 10 starts
Misch 0-7 in his 7 starts

If Jonathan Sanche is before him recently well Sanchez has sucked the past month losing all his starts but is naturally better then 1 st two.

Bad teams will produce alot of extreme trends...sich as OAK scoring less then 4 runs (3 or less) on the road vs LHP in 12 of 16......

Interesting BC....but fading SFG in general just a good idea...

think they are 13-28 in day games as well...

34-59 for SF if Lincecum doesnt start and 16-8 when he does.

2008 is clearly the season of extremes...good heads up

Looking at the first half under in that SF/HOU game. Also looking into SF. Good stuff guys.

Also real tempted to play the METS RL today but I think every swinging-D with an internet conection will have that one.

That's a great stat on the Giants before Lincecum starts.

In addition to the reasoning you and Nut pointed out (shitty pitchers in front of him), there's also the psychological component to think about. Losing becomes contagious on a team like this. And Lincecum is their saftey blanket so to speak. So if they go into a game before he pitches with the mentality of "Ahh, so what if we lose this one, we'll get em tomorrow" then the losing is going to continue.

I like this line of thinking and wish I would have noticed this stat a long time ago instead of this late in the season...... Good find.

wondering out loud and have no idea of the answer. Do the reds have similar stats the game before volquez ?

Nut- I also love Atlanta today. They've been playing well lately and jumped off the page at me this morning as the most lively of the home dogs today.... Cubs haven't backed Harden with wins, and isn't he due for his annual trip to the DL any day now?

So the debate about the game before Tim being an automatic fade of the Giants--Did anyone post that here about 5 times? By the way arguments about the peoplein front are pointless as the issue is clearly that they might have done better in another slot.

...i think 8.5 is an awfully high number for the Yanks-Twins with those pitchers[/quote]

Uh oh..
I was thinking more like 10.5....

Blackburn career hovering around 6 but last start vs yanks he was shelled.
The Moose on the other hand is well.... the Moose. Streaky. and well lets not forget he is 40.
Yanks off runless game... I will take that over thank you very much

Will point briefly at the Washington game. It seems to me there are currently 2 pitchers that are actually playable for Wasshington and only 1 for full game bets. That is Perez. 6-4 at home for the season and in first game of a home series he is 4-2 with all 6 games going under. He has won 3 of his last 4 starts and Santana is 4-6 last 10 and The Mets are not going really great either. Mets 10-10 last 20 away to Washington 8-12 at home but 12-8 last 20 at home vs Mets. Interested in side and total here.

any thoughts on the brew crew against the padres? brewers are hot and on a damn streak

Then why are they only -130?
Just throwing it out there, they've been hot, have played very well on the road since the break, and Baek has sucked out loud.

I'm playing the Padres because absolutely nothing says play the Padres.

yup -130 is way too good to be true, the only reason i see them being -130 is braun is out

Suppan is 1-2 with a 6.35 ERA in three career starts versus San Diego (46-72), and the Padres offense is coming off a big weekend. Baek is 0-5 with a 6.96 ERA in seven appearances at Petco Park, including six starts.

Over 8?!

Pitt as a small dog at home vs team that don't care and plays horrible on the road.

Washington Getting +115 +1.5 Runs at home...If they can get to the Mets bullpen...They know how to ruin Santana starts..

Harden will give ya 5 good innings...after that...Bullpen always seems to blow his leads. Atlanta +1.5 Runs At Home -115

Overs on all the above as well I'm thinking...

Brewers-Padres Preview

By JUSTIN EINHORN, STATS Senior Editor

(AP) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have built their lead in the NL wild card race by taking advantage of an easy stretch of their schedule.

They look to continue doing so Tuesday, opening their third consecutive series against a last-place team as they meet the San Diego Padres.

A 6-3 defeat to NL Central rival Cincinnati on Aug. 4 was Milwaukee's seventh loss in nine games and dropped its wild card lead over St. Louis to a half-game. However, the Brewers (68-51) bounced back to win their next two games against the cellar-dwelling Reds, and went on to sweep a four-game set from Washington, owner of the NL's worst record.

"It's a no-win situation for us," Milwaukee manager Ned Yost told the team's official Web site. "If we sweep them four straight, (people say) we're supposed to if you look at their record. That's not the case, they came in here hot. They came in here playing very well, and we played very well and beat them four straight."

This six-game win streak has given the Brewers a 3 1/2-game lead over the Cardinals for the wild card. They're also 3 1/2 games back of the Chicago Cubs for the NL Central lead.

"We're playing better right now and we're in kind of a nice groove," said Milwaukee's Dave Bush, the winning pitcher in Monday's 7-1 victory over Washington.

Now the Brewers visit a San Diego team which not only is in last place in the NL West, but is 4-16 at home since June 20 and has lost seven consecutive series there.

Milwaukee, though, could be without top hitter Ryan Braun for a third straight game. The All-Star left fielder, among the league leaders with 30 homers and 84 RBIs, is day to day with a ribcage muscle injury.

The Brewers will start Jeff Suppan (7-7, 4.70 ERA), looking to win his third straight start. He threw seven scoreless innings to beat Atlanta on Aug. 1, and pitched seven innings of three-run ball in a 6-3 victory at Cincinnati on Wednesday.

Suppan is 1-2 with a 6.35 ERA in three career starts versus San Diego (46-72), and the Padres offense is coming off a big weekend.

San Diego totaled 24 runs and 33 hits in a pair of wins in Colorado, and posted its highest run total in more than a year in a 16-7 victory Sunday.

Brian Giles had one of the Padres' four home runs and finished with four hits, a day after invoking his no-trade clause to avoid being dealt to the Boston Red Sox.

"I felt relaxed when I made the decision," said Giles, who has spent the last five-plus seasons with the Padres. "It wasn't a big issue for me."
Giles has three homers and six RBIs in the last five games following a 32-game homerless drought. He's homered three times in 28 at-bats against Suppan.

Poor pitching by Cha Seung Baek (4-5, 4.90), who starts Tuesday, is one reason for San Diego's struggles at home. Since being acquired from Seattle in late May, Baek is 0-5 with a 6.96 ERA in seven appearances at Petco Park, including six starts.

It seems odd Baek has been so much better away from home than in pitcher-friendly Petco. Padres pitchers have a 3.56 ERA at home while opponents have hit .249 against them, compared to a 5.21 ERA and .283 opponent batting average on the road.

Baek is coming off another solid effort in a road win, holding the New York Mets to two runs and a walk in 6 1-3 innings in a 4-2 victory on Wednesday.

The right-hander has never faced Milwaukee.

Like to hear people's thoughts on PIT tonight. Karstens has gone 15 innings without allowing an earned run. Conversely its the first time the kid has gone over 100 pitches and he did so in his last two starts.

PIT certainly jumps out at me here. They're coming off the come from behind win vs. the Mets so they should be loose and carry in a bit of confidence today. I see this as a great spot for them against the depleted Reds crew.

Home dogs looming large for my card today Pit, ATL, and probably LAD. Kershaw just 1 ER in his last 18 innings pitched, but still looking there....

I know some of you don't like 1st inning score plays, but how about a "No" in Houston?

I figure.....you are banking on the fact that you have 2 high quality starters against light hitting offenses.

Accordingly, a big inning isn't probable for either side (especially the first time through the lineup). Why not invest in the under for the first half.....that way you aren't risking a SP coming out cold and giving up a couple of hits.

If that's your angle....I'd take a look at the first half under. Shop around a little...rather than paying 25 cents more for the first inning line (-150 @ Greek), you can get an O/U of 4 runs for the first half at MB @ -125. :shake:

Probably wont have time to get into all my plays today but one that has really stood out is

REDS ML :

For Cincy they have purged some veterans with Dunn gone , Jr and even David Ross this weekend ...I said veterans not stars. Looks like Votto is probably out as well .

So why Cincy ?
First reason is SP matchup . Volzquez has struggled no doubt but few things to like here about him. He is given a couple extra days rest here which is always good for a struggling SP . I think when a SP is hot you try never to tweak his routine and try as best to keep him on the same set of days rest . When a guy goes bad for awhile sometimes breaking that routine and getting a little extra rest for your arm works miracles or wonders . The flip is that Karstens has 2 solid starts to his resume and is off a near perfect game . The kid is not an upper tier prospect but can pitch . He does not have electric stuff and certainly doesnt have no hit stuff. Which as a former pitcher makes me think since he was so ON last performance he will just have a little less then normal tonight . It just how it works and why back to back No-No's is o tough for any SP at any level...If SP went out there with teh same stuff every start it would be easy to be a pitcher . Thats the mystery of success. Most guys will tell you they have there best stuff about 25-30% of there starts and the rest is in a work in progress. Anyway Karstens solid guy but was +200 dogs in his 1st starts on the road which were in the day sort of the opposite situation here . Also he had nice spots . Remember Cubs had to play a day game on a Friday after returning home from sweeping MILW and Dbacks won convincingly in game 1 and 2 vs Pitt setting up him vs UNIT. So he cashed as big dogs twice... also only got 5 runs of support so his excellent pitching was huge. His start vs Cubs which I backed him he escaped a few jams where as Zona he obviously cruised. Would think its debatable that currently Volquez is better then UNIT but he certainly is better then Marquis so @ -110 I feel you get some value .

Remember that lasttime he pitched away was @ Houston opened as a small fav vs Wandy and closed as a nice dog around +120 . He won and pitched a real solid game . The stat line is skewed some. He allowed I believe 4 hits and 1run on a solo HT through 6 innings . In the 7th an out , double , error which would have been out #2 , then a FC (should have been third out ) kept the inning alive and he surrended a 3 run HR . With the double scoring on TH FC aftre the error the last 4 runs were unearned and avoidable.

All season he is 8-3 away including a solid 5 inn start shortened by rain in April @ Pitt .

His road splits are NOW signficantly better then at home (always rare to see) .

In 11 away starts in 2008 he has 1 BAD outing on his resume .

Clearly he didnt have much that day but again looks like shaky defense hurt him : 4.1 inn 6h 7 r 5 er 3bb 0Ks

Otherwise in the other 10 starts he has 1 where he allowed 3 runs all earned and the Hous start where he was charged with 5 but only 1 earned. That leaves 8 starts with 2 runs or less(earned or otherwise) and 9 if you count the above Houston start .

Pitt could battle fatigue and or flatness. I am a bitter Met ML and UND backer from yesterday no doubt and fully aware of NYM pen struggled but cant think anyone believes they deserved to win that game. They did because NY allowed them to. Pitt was sleepwalking through the 1st 6 innings down 5-1 . Then they mets pen gave them life and afterwards NY stranded runners and wasted opps on offense further keeping the door wide open for a comeback . So Pitt has to give that win back IMO....

Also the travel factor . They played 10 games in 4 cities and returned to Pitt with NO day off where as Cincy had yesterday off . They played a tough series @ Philly starting with extra innings and concluding with a 2 hr rain delay and bullpen implosion themselves ...so maybe in that sense Pitt got the win yesterday they deserved on Sunday ...so maybe no give back needed in that sense.. . Still Pitt went from CHI to Arizona to Philly ...from Philly on Sunday(game started about 3 PM) to Queens on Monday for a day start and now back to Pitt for this ....

Lineups - Pitt banged up some . One LaRoche returned at 3rd yeaterday and the other expected back Wed /tmrw . Sanchez missed but PH and Wilson has missed a few games .

Reds - Now without Dunn called up Dickerson who also Ks alot but seems like a decent prospect maybe a younger Corey Patterson . I know bad comparison but check Patterson younger days and they loved him coming up as a Cubbie . Votto also may be absent probably the biggest absence of Dunn and Jr . Of interest here is the fact Andy Phillips is an ex-teammate of Karstens @ AAA and NYY . So would imagine he is very familiar with karstens . Especially since Phillips is the type guy who would face him in a Spring Training Intersquad game , a session while Karstens may have been injured to have him face live batters or things of that nature . Along with seeing him as a teammate . So despite the dropoff could be a intersting angle or could be fluff . Also Hannigan the young catcher looks liek a solid hitting prospect : 324 @ AAA , homered Sunday went 2-3 in his 1st game of 2008 and 3-10 late last Sept ...interested to see who else plays for Reds but figure either Cabrera or Patterson at 1 OF spot asuming they start Dickerson a good defender and the regular IFs at 2b-ss -3b .

Lets see what they give us ...and Pitt could rest a player or two after a win and return home as in Doumit and McLouth....

Playing : Reds ML -110 {strong} and also will be on Reds -1.5 +150 and 1st 5inn ML as expect Cincy to lead most of the way if not all or should I say hope....

Good Luck all ...Also looking @ Yanks, A's and Braves ...do not like Harden here(rough start ton of ATL LHs hitters ) and Morton gets a favorable matchup again like Zona and Milw before with so many RHBs ...alot of plays though...

I know some of you don't like 1st inning score plays, but how about a "No" in Houston?

Actually love these props and 1st Score of game props. My problem is and I am not saying DONT play it is Oswalt . SF doesnt have a deep lineup so the best hitters are basically 1 through 5 which you obviously face in the 1st inning and for every baserunner the better it is for SF on paper . Since Oswalt returned he has been so-so. We know he owns the reds at like 21-1 and that was 2 of his wins and neither was excellent more medicore in his 1st off the DL and solid the last time but he escaped some jams vs a slumping offense I would assume allowing 9 hits . In bewteen he allowed 6h and 4 runs in 6 inn athome vs the mets .

1st start @ reds off DL - Three 1st inning runs but understandable with a DL return...allowed 2 in the second as well
2nd start vs mets - Scoreless 1st inn and only a walk faced 4 batters . Then allowed 2 in the 2nd and 3rd...
3rd start vs Reds - Scoreless 1st BUT it went like this - OUT , SINGLE , OUT , SINGLE , WALK , OUT with the bases loaded ....still a scoreless inning but not smooth.....

Assume NO is about -150 and while I am not interested in it just dont think its worth the risk but could be wrong ....ometimes obvious outweighs logic.....

gl sn! im gonna look into that play right now too... If line movement seems right, ill probably be right on it with you.

No hard to believe most people are flocking to Pitt when the SP almost threw a perfect game last start , when the Reds are trading there stars away and when Cincy lost 6 straight and whatever the 20 game mark is ...and I am sure Pitts comback yesterday only adds to there "public" value ...

I know I mentioned Jeff Karstens a few time in some of my Spring chats about upcoming Yankee seasons . I am sure people were thinking HOMER when I said he could be a capable SP . Today though he might be viewed a bit differently after his NL career ....so cant say I am simply anti-karstens.....

BOL....

Actually love these props and 1st Score of game props. My problem is and I am not saying DONT play it is Oswalt . ...

I can't remember for sure because I looked at it early this morning, but Oswalt hasn't given up a run in the first for like 4 starts, right? I probably won't play it (-140), but my perception is that he's pitched well the last 3 weeks. I might have to go back and re-evaluate a bit

Really ? I actually love this card and dont see many games that dont have something I really like . Oh wait I seem to feel that way everyday ....:36_11_6:

really do like some though...

Cincy , Atlanta , Fla (lean) , mets 1st 5 (lean) because of Johan off a choke but hate the price and Nats off being swept , SFG , COL (lean) , SD ML , Det(lean) , Cle ML , NYY , WSox -1.5 RL or ML (lean), A's ML & +1.5 , Sea +1.5 and ML.....

enough to chew on bro .....:shake:

I know you dont have a problem finding any wagers out of the bunch SN!

Nothing really jumped out at me today, was looking at the DET over but bats have been quiet in motown lately so thought better of it and sure as hell not laying the -25

I played your yanks for 1.3u and thats all... mussinas dominance over the twinks throughout his carreer and this season is not something we can just overlook. also blackburn 0-1 with 6.00 ERA against the yanks this season

GL on whatveer you end up lockin in on
