Always have to look at Bama in season opener, especially being under TD favorite

Usually I think you are right and they have been great in that opener. I'm not sure about this one though - the bit I know about what FSU gets back I think it will be a dogfight.

usf under 10 seems like stealing to me.

Ya I got to looking at that one too and bet it. SJSU lost key seniors on offense and defense and now has first time HC, first time play caller and 28 year old OC from Texas (familiarity from USF staff) and a first time DC. They were trash last year and no lookahead from USF here - marquis(ish) game being played week early and Stony Brook and bye on tap for Bulls. This should be a good game to get Flowers out front in Heisman talk. I think they roll em by 20+

CK, they're only $50.

I had to get some homer action on the Irish. Wimbush will be better than Zaire and Kizer.

At first blush I thought that number was tall and I think it def would have been if both teams personnel remained intact but Temple loses a lot and I think ND could have real high upside. Still now that you threw your weight around at it - 10.5 I think it would be only dog for me at this point

I will be curious to see how the Temple scheme changes, or if it does. ND will be nice on defense for a change, just need to score some points, and I think they will.

Agree on Temple. Not sure what to expect there. I like Collins as a DC but not sure what I think a as a HC yet and I don't recall what other hires he made. I read this on ND the other day http://www.footballstudyhall.com/20...read-fighting-irish-brandon-wimbush-chip-long

USF
WVU
SoCar

WVU was my second fav on this list. WVU looks like they should be really good with Grier at QB and Spavital calling plays. I would guess Josh Jackson is the likely favorite to start for VT but I think replacing Evans could be pretty tough early on. He was their entire run offense not to mention a pretty good passer and now the young guys won't have Ford and Hodges to throw to.

Thanks for posting. I have looked literally every day this week since Championship game for these until this weekend, so of course they pop up.

Title futures from BOL. I bet Penn State small at +3100 on 5d I usually like to take some long shots although I've never won, yet.. Gonna glance at a few others this afternoon for fun.

Udub returning its QB, most of its oline, and most of their playmakers, and a large portion of the front 7. One thing I always like to look for in underrated teams going into next season is which really good teams are returning the most snaps around the line of scrimmage - no team fits the bill more than Udub. I know OSU qualifies too but not worth the short price at all.

Agree with this. They, like Penn State, IMO, were a year ahead of schedule last year. Virginia Tech is another that comes to mind, however, I think they lose too much and are in year two of the rebuild unlike Franklin and Peterson who are both in year 4. I grabbed a little 33/1. PAC 12 schedules recently released and really favorable for Huskies:

Non conference schedule is cake again with three patsies to open and then the next two on road are very manageable - I'm of the early belief that Colorado will take a sizable step back as they were so senior laden, particularly on defense, and I tend to think they head back to middle of pack and while Oregon State should be better again, the 5-0 start is likely. By then, you've been able to develop the new guys in the secondary and depth on the DL. 7-0 very likely then bye week and the tough stretch of schedule but good news being that 4 of last 5 are at home with the lone roadie being Friday night at Stanford which looks most likely spot for a stumble given it's on short week after Oregon. USC will prob be a better team but has a tougher road, really just due to OOC, and has Thanksgiving week off before P12 title but at 33/1 I think they could put together another year similar to this year and get in the dance.

I have to look deeper into their depth chart but I'll be tempted by WVU with Grier at QB and their schedule. They get VT with a new QB early and should easily start 4-0 if they win that. Then they get a week off before traveling to TCU. They host Texas Tech before heading to play a depleted Baylor squad. They get both Oklahoma St and Iowa St at home. They travel to Kansas St after those 2 straight home games before hosting Texas. They then end the year at Oklahoma.

I love their schedule as it's about as friendly as a road schedule as they could have in the Big 12, sans the trip to Norman. I also hate that the Big 12 added the Champ game and think it makes WVU lose some value b/c otherwise they could likely go 11-1 and sneak in the playoff

Ready for the offseason? Neither are we. So turn your attention to the months ahead. With chunks of every roster departing and signing day on the horizon, it’s time to identify the biggest needs of every Big 12 team in 2017.
Our series concludes with West Virginia.
Wide receiver
After the early departure of Shelton Gibson, West Virginia enters 2017 without its two most productive receivers from last season. Senior Daikiel Shorts led the Mountaineers with 63 catches, and his 894 yards trailed only Gibson’s 951. They teamed also for 13 of West Virginia’s 26 touchdown catches. Ka’Raun White, recovering from surgery to repair a broken leg, returns as a senior after catching 48 passes for 583 yards and five scores. Jovon Durante is also back and might return to the outside receiver spot occupied last year by Gibson, but WVU will need more from Gary Jennings and Marcus Simms, who together averaged more than 16 yards per catch in limited playing time. Help arrived at the juco signing period, too, with the return of former QB David Sills as a wideout in addition to 6-foot-5 Californian Dominique Maiden.

Defensive line
West Virginia incurs heavy losses up front on defense as seniors Noble Nwachukwu, Darrien Howard and Christian Brown depart with 78 games of starting experience. When the Mountaineers suffered major losses among the back eight on defense after 2015, this three-man front kept the defense ready to play at a high level. Where does it go from here? Redshirt freshman Adam Shuler made an impact last year at defensive end, but additional experience is limited. Look for West Virginia to seek contributions from nose tackle Alec Shriner, end Jon Lewis and an untested group of 2016 redshirts. Big-bodied Jalen Harvey and Ezekiel Rose signed in December out of Mississippi junior colleges.
Secondary
Just as the Mountaineers replaced four top defensive backs in 2016 without missing much of a beat, something similar must happen again as All-Big 12 cornerback Rasul Douglas leaves with safeties Jeremy Tyler and Jarrod Harper, all of whom ranked among West Virginia’s top eight tacklers. Kyzir Whitereturns to lead the backfield as a physical defender; Toyous Avery, Marvin Gross and Elijah Battle, who started three games last season, played important backup roles and figure to factor heavily in the remade secondary. Cornerback Hakeem Bailey, a former Marshall signee, joined the program out of Iowa Western Community College last month.

It looks like to me there are a few tiers in B12:

Ok St, Ok, WVU, KSU

Texas, Baylor, TCU

Iowa St, Tex Tech, Kansas

I think the question will be how much of a gulf is there between tiers? I think Iowa State and Texas have the most potential to move up a tier and Baylor I could see falling off potentially but I think at this point I give them benefit of doubt.

What's the off season without college all-star games. Beer money on East/West Under 38.5 and National PICK in the NFLPA game!

Watched some of the 1H of East/West game. FAU DE Trey Hendrickson got talked about a lot this week - seems to be rightfully so, he looks like a good player. 3-3 at HT

watched a little too, like seeing some of the smaller school guys get recognized and make plays
attendance odds on Family+Friends vs Not family or friend just fan ? lol

haha 99% friends/fam

Two money makers I think on E/W Shrine:
FAU DE Hendrickson
UCLA DB Moreau

The one guy who didn't help his cause - Wazzu WR Marks. Two drops and muffed punt, looked scared in traffic playing slot - announcers brought up good point about he is used to running more verticals in space for Wazzu but will be slot at next level - I still like him as a UFA but he didn't look good today

Main guy who really made money in the NFLPA game - ECU QB Nelson. He was the only NFL QB of the 6 out there. UVA RB Smoke Mizzell finally looked like a 5 star I think he could be sneaky good pro, the next Darren Sproles, Tarik Cohen from AT&T really interests me I will root for him and I thought UNC RB Logan did himself some favors also.

Good stuff guys August / Sept seems so far away like every year.
No Olympics this year so hope the Spurs go deep to help with CFB withdrawal.
A good LLWS story always helps kill a couple weeks too lol

Just updating, two big movers, one addition.

Doing some more '17 work past couple days and found another line I think is off. Vols have been bet up to -6 against GT on Labor Day at GA Dome. Just going off last year's PR and metrics you could make a case for UT to be a very slight fav, like less than a FG, but I don't think that is the case when looking forward to next year's teams. Tenn loses a ton and while they did build more depth last year with the injuries they had I don't have much faith in Jones' ability to develop and deploy their talent - they certainly haven't proven they can do that thus far in his tenure in Knoxville. Dobbs, Kamara, Weisman, Malone, Barnett, Reeves-Maybin, Sutton - those are all guys that are big losses from a skill standpoint and big time from a leadership standpoint. I was a huge critic of Dobbs but they've got a mess at QB now with their inability to get Dormandy reps the past two years and now he and Guarantano have no experience and a battle at QB. I do think TE Ethan Wolfe has a chance to play himself into a 2nd day NFL pick but I'm just not sure how much better they get with a new QB and new OC both being broken in. I think the QB could end up being good but this a big stage early. I think there is almost no question GT will be at worst on same level as they were and I think there is a good chance they are a good bit better - they return a ton and the loss at QB really isn't necessarily going to be a bad thing - Jordan certainly looked good last season in shocking VT. I went back and looked at how GT has opened with teams having full off season to prep for option and it's hard to really gauge things as they mainly blasted patsies - they didn't look good in Ireland against BC last opener but I didn't really see enough to deter me too much and I think from a matchup standpoint the step- back the Vols will take on the DL won't be ideal against this offense. I think this is a pick em type game - GT beat three SEC teams last season and I love the Admiral getting a score.

Twink and duds - I know we talked some about it before the crash but I went back and watched some Pat Mahomes film today. I was pretty bullish on him before but prob even moreso now. If I'm an NFL GM and need a QB - he would prob be my #1. I remember cub mentioning he didn't think he anticipated well and didn't throw guys open and I couldn't disagree more after watching all his throws in several games and also watching an hour long film study on him with two scouts evaluating. I don't think anybody is going to need to jump and take him in 1st round because it's unlikely more than 3 go in R1 but I think he would be a steal outside R1. I could see him going Chiefs late in 1st or if Browns/49ers don't go QB in R1 I think he would be a great option at top of R2. I think this dude could be one of best NFL QB in 5 years.

Mahomes is a hell of a Qb and a good athlete.

He is like an all star shortstop playing QB. His footwork will drive some people nuts cause it literally looks like he is turning two and avoiding getting taken out on a slide but he makes it work.

Just glanced at cbs sports qb rankings
i would not take trubinsky or kizer in round one, no way.

Honestly I like Webb, Mahomes, Watson and Peterman.

longshot- chad Kelly and dobbs.

I think Kizer has pretty high upside from what I saw. I remember early in the season he was the most impressive QB I saw play and then Trubisky came out the gates so strong too he was completing like 70ish% of his passes before the VT weather game. I have no idea if true or not but I kinda wonder if Trubisky has small hands with how poorly he handled the ball in that game - maybe he just isn't a mudder.. I actually think all of the guys you have on your list above, except Peterman and prob Dobbs, could be NFL starters in a few years but I really just don't think it will be great for any team to rely on them right out the gates that's just so hard to do. I would take Chad Kelly as a QB3 for sure - I think he is the ultimate sleeper in there. I've never been more glad to see a guy graduate than him. Zach terrell would be another free agent I'd pick up to have on my practice squad.

I saw Joe Mixon didn't get a combine invite. Crazy. One of ten best players in the draft class and there are lots of people saying he may not be drafted. That dude is Le'veon Bell. I would love to see him in a Kyle Shannahan offense if he takes the 49ers gig - he is good enough to start as a WR in the NFL and he happens to be an elite RB so I can just see him being used like Devonta Freeman.

It all comes down to who drafts them. Regarding Peterman I see him has a capable back up, not sure he is starter material but can cash a lot of checks as a number 2.

but that qb list gets bad very very fast. Any poor fucks ranked lower than sefo, beathard and that clown from tifton better just move on from football, they are not qb material, possible Penske material.

And the qb from wisky was on there, he is awful.

Its like u are tossing a 6th or 7th round pick down the toilet if u pick say beathard.

lol you don't have to convince me of that.

Agree on peterman - Connor cook started a playoff game so it's def not outside the realm of possibilities..

The conferences I've done some digging on so far for next year- SEC, ACC, PAC12 overall look to have improved QB play - SEC should for sure, ACC loses some good QBs so they will likely be down and the top half the P12 is as good as I can remember going into a season.

Bill C dropped the first set of S&P+ rankings yesterday: http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...24/2017-college-football-rankings-projections

My two most easily discernible disagreements would be with WVU and USF being as low as they are - 69th and 56th. I think those are both top 25 teams but understand the way S&P+ weights returning production at this stage of the game why it is the way it is. Problem is, you can't convince me that Grier won't be an upgrade over Howard at QB and that just isn't how his metrics work.

I think this dude could be one of best NFL QB in 5 years.

the games I watched the most of him were kansas and arizona st. in both, at times, he was contained from the edges and he just refused to step up in the pocket and deliver a throw. instead he did the back up 20 yds behind the LOS thing, which we all know does not play in the NFL. shimonek came into the kansas game and vastly outplayed what mahomes had done. it was pretty alarming. i had bet tech in that game and they don't cover if mahomes had finished it. I know he had some shoulder problems, so maybe he had a bit of a lack of confidence early in the season when I was watching him more.

Agreed . His athletic skills are there . but is he a student of the game ? Can he read defenses, quickly make the
right read and throw into tight windows on a consistent basis ? In " Air Raid " you take the snap and sling it
in the direction of someone wearing the same color jersey running down the field .,..... If you miss, you just line
up and try it again. Corners in the NFL can play press coverage.

Well he he must be reading something to sling it to the open guy, no?

Bill C team previews start today. I believe coastal Carolina will be on today's menu. I think this program has a chance to be pretty successful on a macro level. Will be curious to see what they return for this year.
