2017 Early Lines

Thanks for the link. I do remember that now.

Was the one partying hard down at UF?... or was that one of the LSU twinkies?

I remember it was one of those guys that apparently slept with a girl down there and was drunk all over the town and his parents barred him from going there or something like that. Can't remember which one, prob 10 diff guys it applies to

Yup!

Gotta be careful in today's day and age. With that being said, a 17-18 year old has no other era to compare it too. This is how they think life has always been. Their predecessors got to do the same stuff and there would be just mainly rumors.

After O$U they plowed Purdue and Iowa at home before going to Bloomington.

Score was tied at half, IU led after 3 quarters. Hoosiers led 31-28 with 4 mins left and lost 45-31 with the final score being a short scoop and score with under a half minute left, I believe.

I'd have to find the line history but I believe this game was all about the line you had (as how that fumble recovery was a front door or back door). I know some show 6 but I believe it opened around -7.5 to -8 or at least was there at some point early in the week.

Miami Senior DE #9 Chad Thomas/Major Nine produced this song for Rick Ross. Pretty cool, he is a future NFL player - hell of a pass rusher for them and seems like good music producer too.

GT should dominate the Vols +6 & +3.
Vols QB is up in the air. I like their RBs.
Thats a tough O to stop but luckily they have all this time to prepare for it.

Everyone on the LSU offense is learning and adjusting to Canada’s system. But for Guice, things are a bit easier.
Unlike the wide receivers, who seem to have entered a new universe of schemes and plays, the running backs’ jobs aren’t all that different in Canada’s offense than what they were under Cam Cameron and Steve Ensminger. The tempo is a little faster and there’s a little more involvement in the passing game. But most of the differences for the running backs have to do with terminology.

“A lot of things are similar, just different names,” Guice said. “With the running backs, we’re not doing as much as the receivers. The receivers have to do most of the adjustments and different things from last year. The running backs, it’s just kind of the same. We don’t really have that much of a change. But it’s going to be fine.”
Things will change around Guice. For example, he won’t be able to rely on a fullback as a lead blocker as often this fall as he did last season. Canada’s offense shies away from the I-formation in favor of more exotic sets, meaning Guice will have to create for himself more than he did in 2016.

In losing his fullback, Guice gains a bit of versatility. He revealed Thursday that he was lining up at wide receiver this spring, and that figures to be a significant part of the LSU offense. Guice caught 9 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown last season, and he is confident that was only a sampling of what’s to come.
“I will be at receiver a lot now and those linebackers are in for a treat,” Guice said. “That’s all I’ve got to say.

I never watched last year's game but Wash won 48-13 to open last season. I'm not up to speed at all on Rutgers yet. Looking back at last season they didn't fare too well against the top 10's -avg MOL was 52.5 and avg score 56-3. I very rarely take the big favs so not my sweet spot to cap either

TEMPE, Ariz. — Kalen Ballage has a deep well of confidence. When asked on Wednesday where he needs to be to gain the best chance to succeed in an offense, the senior running back struck his best deadpan voice.
“On the field,” he said. Confidence aside, Ballage took a realistic approach this winter when deciding whether that field was an NFL field or a college gridiron. Ballage filed paperwork with the College Advisory Committee to get a sense of his draft prospects as an underclassman. When those projections came back with a best-case scenario of the fourth round, per ASU running backs coach John Simon, Ballage decided to return to the Sun Devils a week before the league’s Jan. 18 deadline to declare for the Draft.
A total of 103 players with remaining college eligibility, including 19 running backs, declared for the NFL Draft, to be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia. Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, LSU’s Leonard Fournette, Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey, Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon, Tennessee’s Alvin Kamara and Texas’ D’Onta Foreman headline an impressive list that does not even account for players with no college eligibility.
“It was a big running back class so I decided it was best to come out in the next one,” Ballage said. “I want to have another year in college under my belt. Some guys want that, some don’t, but I feel like every running back could work on things to make themselves better and prepare themselves better for the NFL.”
A change in offensive coordinators from Chip Lindsey to Billy Napier could provide Ballage that opportunity. Sun Devils coach Todd Graham insisted his team will remain true to its core philosophy, but he added a caveat.
“We are going to be an 11-personnel team,” he said. “We’re going to be a run, play-action pass team. If you’ll go back every year I’ve been a head football coach, we’ve been a spread, no-huddle team, all the way back to 2006.
“But we’re going to adapt to our guys.”
Ballage sees opportunities within that adaptation.
“The offense is definitely more complex,” he said. “We have some more NFL concepts and our playbook is definitely bigger, but I think it will give us a better transition into the NFL; I think it’s going to work out in our favor.
“I’m going to be able to be put in special positions to make plays happen. Obviously, I can’t talk about that, but when they call my name and number I’m going to make those plays.”
Aside from the standard offseason to-dos of getting bigger, faster, stronger, more mobile and more flexible, Simon gave Ballage some other assignments that will enhance his pro stock.
“We’re focusing on him in protection; focusing on him dialing in and understanding the blocking on the front side and on the back side,” Simon said. “There are a lot of things to learn — understanding defensive alignments, looking at the linebacker and understanding if he’s in a zero- or one-technique. What’s the difference, how they’re going to fit it, what gaps they’re responsible for, seeing the rotations, just understanding overall football.
“As he continues to grow his knowledge, the game will slow down while his speed will never slow down. That will allow him to play faster.”
In 2016, Ballage rushed for 536 yards, (4.3 yards per carry) and led the Sun Devils with 14 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 44 passes for 469 yards and a TD. ASU featured him in its direct-snap “Sparky” package, and he made national headlines against Texas Tech with an NCAA single game record-tying eight touchdowns in a 68-55 Sun Devils win.
While Ballage still expects to share time with fellow senior Demario Richard in the ASU backfield, he is embracing his final season of college ball as a chance to become a more consistent and complete player.
“It’s just the whole finish what you started kind of thing,” said Ballage, who will earn his degree in December. “Me personally, I know what I’m capable of. The Texas Tech game wasn’t a surprise to me and I don’t think it was to a lot of my teammates and coaches. It’s kind of what I expect from myself.
“I’ve been doing this forever so I know that you need to have that confidence in yourself — and I do — that wherever they put you on the field, as long as you’re on the field, you can have an impact.”

This guy has to get touches. If he was a stock, I'd buy now.

I don't bet big faves either, rare.
just saying how bad Rutgers was last yr. looks low.

What's the takeaway here?

He is a monster. I'm interested in couple of those as well - mtsu/vandy and eww/tt

What's the takeaway here?

He's gonna be getting the ball in a variety of ways. LSU finally going to have an innovative offense and I'm excited to see what he does in it. I think LF really needs to go an NFL team that uses a FB as a lead a good bit and plays more power and old school I think DG is more versatile and this will either show he's the complete NFL back I think he is or it will expose flaws in his game.

Reminds me so much of Derrick Henry but he catches the ball really well too

I'm probably a year early on guys like Herbert and Wimbush but getting 100/1 and 75/1 it's worth a shot. Lamar Jackson was a "year early" last season and that worked out well. Two guys that I think are NFL players in offenses that I feel like really fit their skill sets at high profile universities - def worth a shot on both guys. My guess is both guys are 15/1 or shorter to begin next season but just hoping they catch lightning in a bottle this year.

Former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris announced Sunday that he would transfer to North Carolina for his final season.
Harris, who lost the LSU starting job last season in Week 2, expects to graduate this summer and be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer.
In making his announcement on Facebook, Harris wrote, "Obviously, it has been an important time for me, looking for a great situation and another opportunity to grow as a young man and as a student as well as a football player. The opportunity to accomplish that is very important to me. After my official visit this weekend to the University of North Carolina, I'm going to get that opportunity."

Once Harris arrives at North Carolina, he would be the most experienced quarterback on the roster. The Tar Heels are currently in the middle of spring practice trying to replace Mitch Trubisky, projected as one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft. Nathan Elliott, Chazz Surratt and Logan Byrdare sharing the reps during practice now. None have started a collegiate game.
Before spring practice began, coach Larry Fedora was noncommittal about a time frame for naming a starter. "I never even think about it that way," Fedora said last month in an interview with ESPN.com. "We're going to have competition and once somebody separated themselves and we made a decision ... if that happens in spring great. If it happens in the summer, great. If it happens in camp, great. If it happens in the middle of a season, great. When it happens, it happens."
No matter how the quarterbacks look this spring, Harris will enter the mix once he arrives and be given an opportunity to win the job during fall practice. Fedora has had experience with dual-threat quarterbacks, but Harris must improve on his passing ability in the spread, no-huddle offense Fedora employs -- especially since the receiver group returns one proven player in Austin Proehl. Harris has never completed more than 56 percent of his passes in any one season.

*** I'm not quite ready to announce this as an abject failure because, frankly, Harris' skill set was never going to work with what LSU did while he was there. I do think he would be a much better fit in a Malzahn or Fedora offense but I just don't know how much he has grown nor do I know really anything about the three guys UNC has competing. I suppose if Harris misses out on the starter job at QB he will get a look at WR, per usual, for a dual threat QB that can't hack it. Unless you are Joel Lanning from Iowa State and then you go from starting 2016 QB to starting 2017 Mike Linebacker!

I'm not quite ready to write him off just yet duds. I'll try to give him the benefit of the doubt at least for a bit.

BYU scrimmaged in the rain Saturday. Not many positives from the offense other than true freshman TE Matt Bushman who was a monster. Early reports are that Williams at RB is going to be really tough for them to replace. Lot of vets in the back end of the defense but their secondary was truly one of the slowest and worst I watched last season and from the way I saw Bushman running away from those guys, may be more of the same.

Harris' skill set is very different from Trubisky's but I would say pretty comparable to Marquise Williams who ran their offense two years ago who threw for 3K, ran for almost 1k that was top 10 in scoring offense at 40 ppg. Now, I don't think he is as good a player as Williams and I think none of those really good receivers are there anymore but this system def a better fit, IMO.

Harris is not a student of the passing game , and lacks confidence in the decision making process . I wrote about this in my thread last spring.

He was benched and replaced by Etling. Harris was a Junior last season and should have shown improvement. He did not.

I see no reason to think that should change this season , especially with a new team.

I respect your or anyone else's opinion that is done with him - lord knows I've had enough fun and laughs at his expense. At first blush I had the same response both you and duds had but the more I thought about it the more I'm willing to wait and see. UNC is one of those teams this upcoming year that I think has to be wait and see. If someone wants to take a position on them pre and/or early season I think it could pay off one way or another I'm just not sure if they're going to be good or bad. My initial belief is they take major steps back but I'll take the next 5 or 6 months to let things play out. I'm less confident about who UNC is than any other team in the ACC and SEC which are the primary conferences I follow.

I think It's important to clarify this. I'm not done with him , and I wish him success. My perspective comes from whether on not it will be safe to wager

on him and /or the team he will play for. Inconsistency is the enemy of determining probability , and he's proven to be inconsistent in his career.

Granted , UNC lacks experience at the QB position , but I predict the QB that throws it to the right place most often will start for UNC.

That might not be Harris.

Understood, thanks for clarifying. 'Done with him' were my words not yours

Took couple cracks on some conference winners.

Just took the two that I felt were furthest off - SEC East has some intriguing options as well.

Wisconsin to win B1G +700 (1 unit)
NC State to win ACC +2000 (.25 unit)

Wisconsin returns a really good team this year. They are a model of consistency in CFB and with their questions this fall being on the defensive side of the ball I'm confident they can get it right there. Roadies @ Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana and the finale with Minny - I would favor them in all those games and would actually favor them in every game this season on their schedule. November will decide their fate and I'm confident this team gets it done then, per usual.

The NC State hype train is going to be growing more each month, IMO, so got on this one early. Incredibly senior laden team with NFL players all over both sides of the ball. Ton of turnover in the ACC with top tier QB's moving on and while I don't love Finley I think he is good enough to get the ball to a bevy of nasty skill guys and returns almost entire OL in year 2 of Drinkwitz' offense. I favor them in 11 games this year - the only time I'd dog them is at FSU and I actually like some of the situationals in favor for them there with FSU coming off Miami and NC State having Furman prior to heading to FSU. It's the 1b toughest division in America so I get how tough it will be but this is an incredibly talented team.

This guy has made me scratch my head for past several years. I believe he is physically one of the most gifted receivers in the country but he just hasn't been able to put it together. In my NFL thread where I ranked some draft eligible skill guys he was the bottom part of my top 25 but if he plays the way I know he is capable this is a top 5 type talent at his position and could surpass Ridley in the eyes of scouts next Spring. WR's have been insanely talented at Bama past few years and only getting stronger.

https://athlonsports.com/college-fo...ring-1-130-starting-quarterback-rankings-2017

I respect anyone's work who attempts to undertake as extensive a list as this - I've learned in doing my own positional rankings it's hard as hell if you really spend time thinking about and working on it. That being said - there are some guys ranked towards the bottom that I think are way off:

118. Keon Howard, Southern Miss
116. Gardner Minshew, East Carolina
115. David Cornwell, Nevada
99. De’Andre Johnson, FAU
97. Dallas Davis, South Alabama
96. Conner Manning, Georgia State
76. Drew Barker, Kentucky
68. Andrew Ford, UMass

Those are all guys that I think can be top half of the table QB this season. Manning, Barker and Ford are all NFL potential players - esp my boy Ford.

Like to see the love for 3 of my dudes in a row:

24. Jake Bentley, South Carolina
23. Shea Patterson, Ole Miss
22. Justin Herbert, Oregon

I know you'll agree with me on this, duds - Jalen Hurts ahead of Austin Allen is criminal

Nothing against Bentley and he may very well be great as he lit up bad defenses last year. However he was pretty awful against the two good defenses he faced in Clemson and Florida going 25-50 for 254 yards with 0 TD, 2 INT and 7 sacks

He's a starting NFL QB in a few years, no doubt in my mind. I think it's important with him to remember that he graduated HS early - he was supposed to be playing high school teams when he was instead getting pummeled against UF/Clemson behind what could have been the P5's worst OL. If they get just bad offensive line play and not abysmal I think they have a chance to have the best offense in the SEC-E - if they can somehow get average to moderately good OL play they will without a doubt be a very, very good offense. Their pass catchers are elite and now with the emergence of Ty'son Williams the UNC transfer to add to the RB stable, this is just a really good group. Another year in the system and full off-season to prep as the starter and I think we see Bentley round into the form I believe he's capable of.

I have a pretty hot take/bold prediction for the 2017 CFB season: 5 star sophomore UGA QB Jacob Eason loses his job to incoming 5 star frosh QB Jake Fromm

Added some Heisman bets - trying to hit another Lamar Jackson like I had LY at 60/1. I only bet two guys last year though but will have more this year. Have a few more guys in mind but this was it for the first sweep:

LSU RB Derrius Guice 18/1 (.25 unit)
PSU QB Trace McSorley 25/1 (.25 unit)
USF QB Quentin Flowers 40/1 (.10 unit)
MAR RB Ty Johnson 50/1 (.10 unit)
TCU RB Sewo Olonilua 50/1 (.05 unit)
ND QB Brandon Wimbush 75/1 (.10 unit)
ORE QB Justin Herbert 100/1 (.25 unit)

Added to couple guys at better prices now that more outs publishing and also added Mason Rudolph:

LSU RB Derrius Guice 18/1 (.25 unit)
OSU QB Mason Rudolph 20/1 (.25 unit)
PSU QB Trace McSorley 25/1 (.25 unit)
USF QB Quentin Flowers 40/1 (.10 unit)
MAR RB Ty Johnson 50/1 (.10 unit)
TCU RB Sewo Olonilua 50/1 (.05 unit)
ND QB Brandon Wimbush 87/1 (.20 unit) (Avg price)
ORE QB Justin Herbert 125/1 (.35 unit) (Avg price)

He may very well be a starting NFL QB in a few years but that's a bold statement based off of 5 games of film. However he has a great pedigree, a QB coach dad and good size.

He turned 19 in the fall so he should have been a freshman in college. Kids that turn 19 years old during the fall semester aren't still typically in high school.

I'll be interested to see how their playcalling goes as much as I will their offensive line. They have some talent at the skill positions for sure. And don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bad QB by any means. I'm just not ready to call him a starting NFL QB. I also wasn't ready to anoint Watson after his freshman year either

Fair points :shake2:

I am interested to see what Roper does this year with all the talent.
