Outstanding game on Thursday between North Carolina Central at South Carolina State!

I am going to be on the road two full days this week which will limit my ability to obsess on games and post starting midweek.

I don't get much into playoff talk, rather I get annoyed by it because it doesn't mean anything. I do like to look at conference races this time of year.

Big Sky -

Montana State will play UC Davis and Montana back-to-back to finish the season. Already beat Idaho.

UC Davis will play Montana and Montana State back-to-back 11/9 and 11/16. Already beat Idaho.

Montana will play UC Davis 11/9 and Montana State in the finale. Do not play Idaho.

Idaho has played all it's toughest opponents. They lost both vs UC Davis and Montana State and they miss Montana this year

Big South / OVC -

SEMO has already beat UT Martin and plays Tennessee State in the finale

Tennessee State playes UT Martin this week and ends with SEMO

UT Martin has already lost to SEMO and is at Tennessee State this week

CAA- Wow what a crazy conference- have I ever mentioned I hate large conference and unbalanced schedules?

Richmond does not play Rhode Island; Spiders do not play anyone currently unbeaten or 1-loss in the conference, their toughest game on paper is hosting W&M in finale. They beat Delaware 2 weeks ago.

Rhode Island will play at Delaware next week and then does not face anyone currently unbeaten or with 1-loss in the conference race

Delaware is ineligible for CAA title

Stony Brook already lost to Villanova and does not play anyone else currently unbeaten or 1-loss in the league

Villanova already beat Stony Brook and their only game vs another top team left is the finale vs Delaware

IVY -

Dartmouth and Harvard play this week in what could decide the league. Although the Ivy shares titles and does not break ties regardless of head-to-head results therefore just about everyone is still alive to some degree to get a share of the title.

MEAC -

North Carolina Central and South Carolina State's game this Thursday would appear to be an elimination game for the conference title.

NCCU already beat Norfolk and plays Howard 11/15

South Carolina State will play Howard and Norfolk yet in November

MVFC -

North Dakota State has already beaten South Dakota State and will play Missouri State and at South Dakota to close the season

Missouri State is eligible for the conference title, but not the playoffs. They play NDSU and SDSU back-to-back to end the season

South Dakota has already lost to SDSU, does not play Missouri State and will face North Dakota and North Dakota State back-to-back to end season

South Dakota State has already lost to NDSU, but just beat USD. They play at UND next week and host Missouri State in the finale.

Bucknell has already lost to Georgetown, but beat Lehigh and will play at Holy Cross and host Colgate to close the year

Colgate has already lost to Holy Cross, but beat Georgetown. They play at Lehigh and Bucknell to close the year.

Lehigh has already lost to Bucknell and will play the other 3 contenders in a row starting this week.

Drake will play at St Thomas next week. They do not play Dayton and will face Morehead in a couple weeks. They already beat Butler and do not play Davidson.

St Thomas travels to Morehead this week then will play Drake - Butler - Dayton to finish the season. They do not play Davidson.

Dayton just lost to Morehead and will play at St Thomas in the finale. They do not play Drake and already beat Davidson and Butler.

Morehead just beat Dayton. They host St Thomas this week, travel to Davidson and play at Drake 11/16. They already lost at Butler.

If it gets nutty Butler, Davidson and San Diego all sit with 2 league losses

SoCon -

The Clifton McDowell era at McNeese State is over. Cowboy head coach Gary Goff announced Monday that the transfer quarterback will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated finger on his throwing hand. It is the same injury that forced McDowell, a graduate senior who led Montana to the FCS title game a season ago, to miss the last two games. He missed a game earlier in the year at Texas A&M with a bad ankle. Email newsletter signup Sign up for our daily email newsletter “It doesn’t seem to be getting any better,” Goff said of McDowell’s injury. “There were reasons why we brought him in here, but injuries are part of the game.” Goff said McDowell may appeal to the NCAA for another year due to the injury but that seems unlikely given his extended time already in college. McDowell is expected to continue to be part of the team, but in what capacity wasn’t made clear. McDowell finishes his season 63 of 113 for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns. He was intercepted three times while rushing for 370 yards and six more scores. With McDowell out the offense turns back over to redshirt freshman Kamden Sixkiller for the second straight year. Sixkiller started the final two games last season and will now be the guy moving forward. “Six is the guy,” said Goff. “You don’t want Six to be looking over his shoulder at all. I just want to focus on Six growing these last weeks of the season. “I do think he is the future, I really do.” Sixkiller’s extended audition will begin at home this week when the Cowboys play Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night. It is Homecoming for McNeese (4-5, 1-3 in the Southland Conference) and also the first time they will be back inside Cowboy Stadium since September. It will also mark the fourth start of the season for Sixkiller, who has had his moments of both good and bad. He has connected on 78 of his 141 passes for 829 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. “He (Sixkiller) checks all the boxes in my opinion,” said Goff. “He has a big arm and can make all the throws. “We need him to grow up in a hurry. He is a fierce competitor who takes to coaching. Pound for pound, one of the toughest guys on the team.” Sixkiller will be looking for his first win as a starting quarterback against Commerce (1-7, 1-2). Alex Flores, the junior college transfer, will back him up. True freshman Devin Leppold could also get some time now that his redshirt season is no longer in jeopardy. Goff said he hopes to get back injured receiver Curtis Deville perhaps as early as this week. The transfer from Purdue and Iowa High School product would give a huge boost to the receiver group. As for Lake Charles Prep star Tre’Vonte Citizen, the injury news is not as good. Citizen is not expected back this season with a leg injury. “We have missed him,” said Goff. “He is a big back but we have to get him better.” Citizen transferred from Miami in hopes of kick-starting his career that injuries have plagued. There is still a lot on the line for the Cowboys this season. McNeese has not finished above .500 or with more than four victories since 2019. “We still have a lot to play for,” said Goff. “We haven’t had a Homecoming in two years and the guys are excited to be back home. McNeese’s Homecoming game was forfeited by Northwestern State after one of its players was shot and killed the week earlier. Cowboy officials were not told until just four days before kickoff that the Demons were canceling the remainder of the season, leaving them no time to find a substitute. That proved to be the only game won by McNeese last year as the Cowboys finished 1-10, the worst record in program history.
