A study in extremes, the Mets last 35 games of almost all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2, 2, 7, 6, 6, 3, 6, 8, 9 & 3 run totals.

16 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-5 runs.
18 totals of 6+ runs.

Another study in extremes, Baltimore's last 29 games of basically all-or-nothing offense -

11, 2, 9, 2, 5, 7, 5, 7, 10, 3, 10, 6, 8, 5, 7, 1, 1, 5, 7, 11, 1, 8, 8, 1, 1, 5, 6, 5 & 13 run totals.

_7 totals of 0-2 runs.
_1 total of 3-4 runs.
21 totals of 5+ runs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore has gone 53 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 34-15-4 to Over during this period, and are 13-0-2 to Over off their last 15 Under results.

Yankees and Rasner over Cabrera. Overpriced but I don't care, they win this one.

Additionally, I like Greg Smith to stop the skid for Oakland. Assuming they lose.

That Baltimore stat (21 of 29 scoring 5 or more) is almost amazing. I realize they have a decent offense but that's a LOT of team OVERS...

Boston/LAA over anyone?

Lackey has been getting tremendous run support in July, the sole reason why he recorded only 1 loss. 7.61 ERA but 2-1 and the team is 3-1 in his starts.

He has not been himself however. He raised his ERA from 1.93 to 3.02 in only 4 starts.
Code:
DATE	OPP	RESULT	IP	H	R	ER	HR	BB	SO	GB	FB	TBF	#Pit	Dec.	Rel.	ERA
7/23	CLE	W 14-11	5.0	8	6	6	1	2	5	5	7	27	99	W(8-2)	--	3.02
7/18	BOS	W 11-3	7.0	5	3	3	2	2	6	9	7	26	90	W(7-2)	--	2.58
7/10	@TEX	W 11-10	5.2	15	6	6	2	1	5	14	4	30	104	--	--	2.46
7/5	TOR	L 5-7	6.0	8	6	5	1	1	7	11	6	29	107	L(6-2)	--	1.93

Against CLE, 5.0 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 1 homer.
v Boston, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, but 2 home runs.
@ Tex 5.2 IP, 15 H, 6 ER, 2 homers

In his last 3 games he got an unreal 36 runs of support.

Note the start before that. Mediocre as well. He got the loss against TOR, 5-7. More than enough for our over.

Lackey against Boston prior to this season, 1-2, 5.53 ERA.

Red Sox bats v Lackey
56 for 186, .301 BA.

Who do Angels go against? Clay Buchholz, weakest link in Red Sox rotation. 6.60 ERA his last 3 games, the Angels hit 15 for 42 off him (.357)

We know the Angels have a great pen but the fact here remains, this is a good spot for the over, the Sox are pissed now, losing 4 straight to the Angels. Both teams can light up the scoreboard here if you ask me. Check these out:

* Angels are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.
* Over is 4-1 in Lackeys last 5 starts vs. Red Sox.
* Over is 5-2 in Lackeys last 7 road starts vs. Red Sox.
* Over is 9-4-2 in the last 15 meetings in Boston.

* Angels are 8-21 in the last 29 meetings in Boston.
* Angels are 2-11 in Lackeys last 13 starts vs. Red Sox.
* Angels are 1-7 in Lackeys last 8 road starts vs. Red Sox.

I played Sea/Tex over 11 -20 with Long Dong Silva and Mendoza and Crawford behind the plate. 104 degrees at first pitch tonight in Arlington. Texas bullpen is horrible and should be in play early tomorrow. Silva definitely known to feed the gopher as well.

Assuming KC wins and no obvious umpire problem will certainly play Meche. Very hard to understand the other side. KC after a win is 52%. Oakland after a loss is a little over 48%. KC in game 2 after win is 8-8 while Oakland is 5-10 after loss. KC has tended to do very well vs Oakland. Meche has been playing very well recently on the road where he has 6 quality starts, 1 good start and 2 poor and 1 bad starts last 10. He went 5-5 in those. He has won his last 2 starts home and away vs Oakland. 6 of Smith's last 10 starts stink and he got hit hard by KC the only time he faced them. Smith started hot but is 5-9 last 14 and looks to me like a obviou target. Oakland a massive 10-10 last 20 at home and soon to be 8-12 last 20 at home vs KC
Waiting till late on this play. Mahay may be traded which would be a disaster to KC pen. Will fire late if it does not happen.

i'm leaning TEX o11, NYY -1, and TOR -1...i need to freshen up on how to make -1's though

Detroit RL-I like Galarraga a lot, especially on the road and with the Tigers coming off a loss to a weaker team.

Boston ML- Lackey's worst park is Fenway if my memory serves me correct.

The Phillies price is interesting or maybe the books think Myers sucks so much that he shouldn't a huge favorite over a AAAA team like Washington. Balester has been bombed in every start, and it's hard to see why that doesn't happen here as the Phillies have scored 22 in their last two games. 9 run total? I thought this would be 10.5 for sure with these two pitchers and the Phillies actually hitting as of late. I'd like to hear what others think about this game.

I lean to the Amusins' as they generally hit LHP well and the Marlins don't. Still it's hard to put your money on either pitcher as both are capable of dominating at anytime or pouring kerosene all over the stadium.

I'm showing on my book, Milwaukee and Ben Sheets at only -116. When's the last time you can get Sheets at this price, at HOME also. I know there going up against Zambrano but I might have to take the home team coming off a loss in this one.

9 run total? I thought this would be 10.5 for sure with these two pitchers and the Phillies actually hitting as of late.

A team scoring a total of 2 runs in 4 games, and coming off consecutive shutouts, will have that affect on a line.

i like the over in cubs again.., also as usual give me the marlins plus money ... and lefties that arent soft tossers dont give the marlins as many problems as a moyer does.... besides im going to say something i never do but perez is due for a flame out

interesting, the last 5 times sheets has faced the cubbies have been in wrigley, twice this year and 3x in 2007.

3 out of 5 were quality starts

on the other end of the spectrum, Z has had the privilege of facing the screwers at home in 4 of his last 5 starts

4 of 5 were quality starts

with the cubbies winning today, sheets does look severely undeprriced tomorrow, will deifnitely give a serious look to the screw crew as well

Brewers at home on Tuesday this year are 7-0. Sheets did not pitch any of those games. He is 2-5 his last 7 at home vs the Cubs and has given up 5 runs, 6 runs, 5 runs and 4 runs at home the last 4 of those. He is 11-9 at home on Tuesday. He has won twice facing Carlos in Chicago and lost 3 times at home with Carlos on the road. Right now I would lean Chicago.
It seems to me Chicago has gained in bullpen here. Marmol came back and pitched well so it looks like he is coming back but Torres got hit hard and tossed 39 pitches. Jeff the new Cub reliever did not pitch tonight so he will be available tomorrow. Not sure Torres will be available Tomorrow. This is an odd situation. Carlos always loses to the Brewers at home but recently has been winning at Brewers.

nothing like checking baseball standings and seeing the al central and every team is 5 and 5 in there last 10

I have a feeling this Brewers/Cubs series is going to be zig-zagger.
But whether it is or not, tomorrow looms large for Milwaukee. Parra vs Dempster is no "certain" win, then they have Bush vs Harden. The Brewers could very quickly stare down being swept if they fail tomorrow.

The bad sign is 50% of their recent offense is the long ball, and that's a helluva lot of offensive production to have resting on something so fickle. RBI production in their last 8 games...

via homers (15)
via walks/sac'd in runs (8)
via hits other than homers (7)

...more than twice as many through homers than through normal hits. Cubs are throwing them some decent pitchers to look at, and the question is what happens if those homers dry up?

OK, so the Angels...

- have won 6 straight against the Red Sox
- have a starter going who has form on the board this season (WHIP 1.10, ERA 3.02, LAA 10-3 SU in his starts)
- face a guy in turn who has pretty horrible numbers (WHIP 1.71, ERA 5.81, BOS 3-8 SU in his starts)
- won this same match-up just a week or so back, and while that was on home turf it was a comfortable 8 run win.

...and while this is a road game for the Angels and the Red Sox have an excellent home record, the home team here has played less than .500 ball their last 7 home games (3-4 SU) while the Angels sport the best road record in the majors.

At the price the Angels are offering it'd seem, while there's obviously no guarantees the "right side" will cash, that there's only 1 side to bet this game.

------------------------------------

Buchholz on the road this season
WHIP 1.86, ERA 7.97, O/U 6-1 - avg 13.00 runs, BOS 1-6 SU

Buchholz at home this season
WHIP 1.48, ERA 2.41, O/U 2-1-1 - avg 9.00 runs, BOS 2-2 SU

Buchholz's worst home start (WHIP 2.00, ERA 7.20, 3-7 loss) this season came against Baltimore. The lead-in facts for that game were as follows....
Baltimore were losers of 5 straight (a season matching high), and had scored 5+ runs in 9 of their previous 10 games (so their offense was humming). In turn Boston was coming off a rest day which followed their sweeping of then AL Central division leaders Minnesota (climaxing with an 18 run outburst in game 3), an effort which itself followed on from a 4 game series vs the Yankees in the Bronx. Oh and Baltimore was revisiting the scene of a no-hitter crime (same starter & venue) from the season before, for a little added motivation. It's a struggle to see any Boston starter other than maybe Beckett who'd have survived the inertia of said circumstances.

Outside of that game's effort, Buchholz has 3 home starts for a WHIP of 1.33 and an ERA of 1.04 this season. What kind of opposition, you say? only Tampa, the Yankees and Texas.

------------------------------------

As for Mr. Lackey's recent efforts at Fenway...

3 losses (all POR) by an average margin of 5.66 runs (the only Under vs the Red Sox staff ace), and even a loss in there vs, yes, Mr. Buchholz.

Suddenly that lone "right side" doesn't seem so alone any more.

A few further notes:

Don't blink but Mr. Varitek has actually been showing signs of at-the-plate life lately: 6-23 (.260) his last 6 games after needing 47 ABs for his previous 6 hits (.127), and reaching base 3 times in 4 ABs in Monday's series opener. This coincides with Boston having scored 9 & 5 runs their last 2 games after a season high 9 game streak of scoring 4 runs or less in regulation innings. This offense is warming up for the first time since the AS break.

Boston has conceded 2, 1, 3, 3, 3, 0, 6 & 0 run totals this season in a home game off having conceded 7+ runs in their previous game. Beckett started none of the subsequent games, Wakefield started the worst (6 run) effort (the pen gave up late runs after being spotted a 5 run lead, but they still won by 6 runs).

LA has scored 2, 2, 2, 4, 6, 4, 7, 7 & 1 run totals this season in a road game off having scored a 7+ run total in their previous (road) game.
The 3 highest totals came against an NL team (6 runs: Myers + his IL ERA of 8.38) and at the launch pad in Texas (2 x 7 run totals: Jennings + his 11.93 home ERA & Millwood + his 5.93 home ERA).

Also Anaheim pen looks very suspect for today. BC. Bet a total. Toronto over 7.5. Just do not understand the total. Seems like at least half the Tampa team hit Halladay. Garza in his last 6 road games has given up 4, 7, 1 , 3, 5, and 6 runs. Halladay has a high 4 era on 4 days. Sorry baseball reference.com is doing updates so unable to give the exact figure. Barry an over ump who Halladay has had 1 good game with. 1 bad game and one where he went 8 and gave up 4 runs where you decide what to call it. Hopefully someone scores a lot. gl

tuck - Halladay is 7-1-2 to Over in his last 10 starts in which the loser wasn't shutout, at an average of 9.20 runs/game. The only Under result being with his offense on the road vs that dogshit offense of Oaklands.
Last 2 seasons Tampa has scored 20 ERs off 24.1 IP by Halladay (his worst start, 18.92 ERA, his only home start).

Got live betting for the Sox game, thinking about that total, will have to consider this one.

Seattle/Texas Over 11

Silva + Mendoza + Crawford = runs

If I'm reading shortline's stats correctly, Crawford has the fourth highest average runs per game of any ump in the majors at 11.3. Add in the bats of Texas and the Texas bullpen. I like the over, but I also like Tejas to prevail in this slugfest.

cabrera starts games off with no pitching control then settles in a tad.. im taking Run scored first inning YES for prolly a Unit or two..

Just hit the team total for Phillies OVER 5.... for a unit.. I'll be going to this game tonight so fuck it.. too afraid to take the RL if anything I would take the phillies ML for a 1/2U

Have you read BetCrimes' post about teams coming off consecutive shutouts? If not, I recommend reading it before making that Phillie wager. If so, I'd like to hear your argument for the Phils.
Why don't we just ask the man who started the thread...BC, how do you think the Nats are going to beat the Phils tonight?

I actually like the angels to beat the redsox today. I know Lackey has not pitched well recently dating back from @texas, but this is one competitive guy. I think he steps up for this game big time after being roughed up a little bit. His problems are a matter of concentration as his velocity is there. He just hangs a few balls over he plate a shade too much. We also have Davidson at the plate which should help his strike zone and allow him to throw for his 7Ks in 7 innings. Buchholz got roughed up last outing LA. He is immensely talented, but also weighs like 165lbs. He doesnt have the stamina needed to go 7 innings against this potent angels lineup that is playing inspired ball after being ridiculed by Boston for the last few season, mainly because of playoffs. Torii hunter is mashing the ball after the death of his grandmother and will likely get his own today. I just see this as a spot where people auto-play boston because of the sweep that last occurred. The only guy with real success against lackey is Manny, where he kills him batting .480 career. Avoid the man, and you got an angel win, imo.

Plus somehow no one is mentioning Clay's problems at night. The previous game where he beat Lackey was a Day game.

I'll take a team that's capable of putting up 20 runs any day VS a minor league team with a mediocre pitcher on the mound to say the least...Maybe if Redding was on the mound I'd take a small shot at Nats.....Shit happens Nats can win today but I just dont see it

Good point, and that's exactly why i anticipate to see Boston's pen tonight. Yes. The shaky shaky boston pen.

but your backing someone that gives up the longball like its his job, in myers

hasnt won on the road yet this season where hes 0-6 /7.91 ERA

and youre laying -150 to -160 road chalk doing it

Guys, i dont mean to be a dick, but if most of your posts are something like "i really like boston, it's raining free benjamins" Please stop.

This is looking more and more like a covers thread. If you like a play or you agree with someone, just say "i agree, gl." And if you want to be a super duper "A" poster, you can even write WHY you like that side/total. I'm not trying to rack on anyone, i jus dont like coming in here and sorting through a crap load of 1 liners that give absolutely no contribution.

And btw, my bet is off of the Angels.. Kotch and Izturis are two of the most clutch hitters on that team. To lose their best leftie is going to hurt mentally and in game. I still think they might win, just not as sure.

I agree, GL

In all seriousness, I think I'm in for a bloodbath today. I really like Philadelphia and NYY just as much as JDSports...I just like betting on good teams in games that they really need to win...and I like Colorado for the same reason. I do think Colorado is a good team at this point. I also am backing Oliver Perez and the Mets on the road as a -130 favorite...I have no idea why I would have done that, except that the Mets are hot and hit LHP well and the Marlins struggle against LHP. I also have an under in Houston despite the fact that both bullpens are terrible and neither starter is particularly good.

Yeah, I'ma get killed.

BC, how do you think the Nats are going to beat the Phils tonight?

Washington couldn't ask for a better pitcher to face (based on his road stats) to try and get out of their offensive funk tonight. If Philly had a better starter going, I'd feel better about their chances. And while Washington has failed once in this spot already this season (a 1-6 loss off being twice shutout), last season they put up 11 runs in a win (at home) off the same situation. It's a dangerous spot to expect any team to continue to be uncompetitive - usually at least 1 aspect turns up for said team, offense or pitching, if not both.

Plus somehow no one is mentioning Clay's problems at night.

2 of his 3 best starts this season have been at night, at home.

That said, I wonder if a 15-20 cent move towards Boston is justified, so my intended approach for live betting has shifted.

:36_11_6:

Im on the yanks RL with ya bud.

DC has had a lot of trouble getting the ball down and giving up a lot of hard hit balls because of it. When hes on the road hes even worse- because he goes into his old pattern which is having some serious control issues and walking a lot of batters.

Not sure what the yanks record is off a loss but I would assume its pretty good, gotta think theyre gonna come out strong tonight after getting shillacked last night.

:shake:

another good stat

rasner has given up 12 first inning runs in 14 starts

good for "run in 1st" prop
