A study in extremes, the Mets last 28 games of all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2, 2 & 7 run totals.

14 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-6 runs.
13 totals of 7+ runs.

134 homers hit since the AS break (5 days) with still 35 innings (max.) needed to complete the 5th day.

62 games, so the avg is exactly 2.00/game (so far), with no games having been played in Texas.

148 homers from 73 games in the 5 days before the AS break (2.03/game), with 5 games played in Texas being responsible for 16 of them (3.20/game)

I hate when I post picks, they always lose, but what do you guys think on under 9.5 in the Chi/Ariz game?

Owings is listed as the starter tomorrow but he pitched an inning tonight. Am I missing something?

Neither will start . Hendrickson will be replaced by VandenHurk I believe. While Petit should go for Zona......

I know this was discussed the other night. But can the cheap price on Marquis get locked in or will the bet be voided?

Once SP change if you make an action bet (not listed pitchers) you get the 1st price after the adjustment . So basically you get the new opener not what you locked in. I just dont see why anyone should run to make a play just to save a few bucks .

Blanton went 1-3 lifetime playing at Minnesota. His only road win was against Santana. Stat from space--Phillie at Mets on Tuesday 8-4

Yanks study of extremes - ( Home games since ARod returned from the DL)

Allowing 3 runs or Less :
14-4 Win / Loss
16-1-1 UNDER

Allowing 4 runs :
2-1 Win/Loss
2-1 Over ( the loss was the Under)

Allowing 5 or more runs :
6-6 Win / Loss
10-2 Over (both unders were shutout losses)

So 22-11 @ Home since ARod came back from his DL stint and 13-19-1 Over.

vs RHP 15-10 and 13-11-1 UNDER
vs LHP 7-1 and 6-2 UNDER

So the OVER is 12-3 when they allow 4 runs or more but all THREE Unders were losses. So the parlay would be Yanks ML and over if you feel they allow 4 runs or better as that correlation is 8-0 (Yanks 8-7 in these games ).

The Under is 16-1-1 when Yanks allow 3 runs or less and Yanks are 14-4 . The correlation is 13-4-1 with NYY and under in this range .

Krazy shit .....

Just checked the entire season for NYY :

Allowing 3 runs or less at home :

22-5 Win/Loss

24-2-1 UNDER ....

Oakland has a dogshit offense that's being shielded by pitching that, surely, sooner or later is going to feel the strain of carrying the team.

1 total north of 4 runs in 13 games:hang:

You think they bounce back off being shutout? not a chance - they average 2.50 runs off being held to zippo, nada, zilch.

Another bunch of bums whose Overs won't get a cent of mine.

Another over in NYY?

Two pitchers with sky high July ERA & BAA, two offenses that can hit and an over ump.
That's the short version of course. :D

Any thoughts?

Tidbits from around the leagues

National League

Saint Louis/Milwaukee
Troy Glaus is hitting .525 (21-for-40) during his 10-game hitting streak.

Russ Springer has allowed just two earned runs over his last 34 outings (25 2-3 innings, 0.70 ERA).

Milwaukee has homered in a season-high 17 straight games; the team record is 19 straight set from June 11-30, 1996.

Florida/Atlanta
Atlanta SS Yunel Escobar (sore left shoulder) is expected to rejoin the lineup Tuesday.

Cincinnati/San Diego
Padres SS Khalil Greene was back in the starting lineup Monday after missing a game because of tightness in his lower back.

Houston/Pittsburgh
The Astros are 6-35 when they score fewer than four runs.

Jason Bay has 10 RBIs in his last seven games.

Freddy Sanchez has three homers in his last 11 games at Minute Maid Park.

Colorado/Los Angeles
Rockies 1B Todd Helton said his strained lower back is feeling better, but there’s no timetable for his return. He’s been on the disabled list since early July.

Arizona/Chicago
Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano will report to Triple-A Iowa in Tucson on Tuesday to continue rehabilitation from a broken finger.

Chicago RHP Kerry Wood will treat the blister on his finger with ointment then attempt to throw on Wednesday.

American League

Baltimore/Toronto
The Orioles are seeking their first series win since June 24-26, against the Chicago Cubs.

The Blue Jays have lost 14 of 18 on the road.

New York/Minnesota
Oft-injured RHP Carl Pavano, coming back from elbow ligament replacement surgery, could be back this year. In the final season of a $39.95 million, four-year contract, Pavano has made just 19 starts with New York.

Alexi Casilla has hit safely in 21 of his last 23 games, batting .356 (36-for-101) over that span.

Tampa Bay/Oakland
The Rays are batting .129 (11-for-85) with runners in scoring position over their last 11 games, including 3-for-11 Monday night.

Rays SS Jason Bartlett, sidelined since July 3 with a right knee sprain, ran the bases during pregame drills, and may be activated during Tampa Bay’s upcoming road trip to Kansas City and Toronto.

A’s DH Frank Thomas, on the 15-day disabled list since May 29 because of right quadriceps tendinitis, took batting practice and has been cleared to start a running program on Friday.

Oakland's offense continues to make dogshit smell good by way of comparison.

Kansas/Detroit
Monday's loss was the Royals' first loss to the Tigers in seven games this season.

The Royals have conceded 7+ run totals in 10 of their last 19 games.

The Royals have recorded 4 straight Over results for the 3rd time this season - they've yet to record 5 straight.

Chicago/Texas
Yes, Ozzie is still mouthing over Monday's loss even now.

Josh Hamilton has 24 RBIs in his last 25 games.

With Monday's win, Texas (52-48) tied its season-best mark, at four games over .500.

Los Angeles/Cleveland
Angels CF Torii Hunter left the club after Monday's game to be with his ailing grandmother. He is expected to rejoin the team Friday at Baltimore. In his absence, any triple A replacement with an ounce of plate patience could make their offense better.

The Indians plan to activate RHP Fausto Carmona from the DL on Saturday and start him against Minnesota. Carmona, a 19-game winner last season, has been sidelined since May 24 with a left hip strain.

Seattle/Boston
Seattle lost for the ninth time in 12 games to tie its season low of 23 games under .500.

Manny Ramirez, the designated hitter in the absence of David Ortiz, had three singles Monday to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

David Ortiz, out since injuring his wrist May 30, singled twice, walked, and flied out Monday for Double-A Portland. He’s still on track to return Friday - just in time to face the Yankees.

Def. my strong lean, yet the number seems low. Slowey has been all but crap (WHIP 1.93, ERA 11.09) his last 4 starts vs AL teams, vs 4 good starts vs NL teams (WHIP 0.72, ERA 0.93), thru his last 8 overall. I'd have thought a 10 in order, but Rasner has a home ERA almost 3 runs lower than his road ERA.

Seems to me an Over is aligned with a Yankee win, and my feelings stand on principle now if you need 1 team to lead to a total result, take them over that total if their price is right. So I'd opt for NYY before the Over. Slowey & Rasner pitch to form given opponent & venue, NYY wins but the total is a toss-up.

sportsnut, betcrimes and others,

may i ask where you guys get your stats/history on basically everything? i am missing a lot, and seems you guys have every single detail, im impressed

thanks in advance

Master P - Jim Feist's site (which I post the pitcher links from in the initial post of these discussion threads) has numerous stat links for various sports which are most helpful. Otherwise just the usual - ESPN.com (team pages, player profiles, etc), mlb.com, yahoo.

BetCrimes, not sure if you have it, but I'm curious to see the New York Yankee's SU record coming off a game in which they scored at least 10 runs. If I'm not mistaken they have a pretty solid night after...any help on this stat is greatly appreciated.

Don't quote me on this one but I think SN mentioned something like 22-5 or similar in the last two years. After a game in which they scored 10+ runs AND won.

As I said, I may be tripping, but it should be something around that number.

... and I want to play Toronto. I seem to always like the illogical choice. Maybe BAL not winning a series in a month tells us something, but then again so should Toronto going 4-14 in L18 on road (can stretch it out to 5-16 L21).

What I see is a deceiving W-L record on Marcum at 5-4. The guy has a 1.00 WHIP & 2.65 ERA in 98.2 IP. Toronto is 7-8 when Marcum is on the hill, and with Marcum's stats this tells me that he receives no offensive support from his team, which not coincidentally, I consider to be Toronto's only lineup disadvantage versus the O's.

Oakland's lack of offense does worry me, but I still am looking their way tonight. Sonnastine's 10-4 record is quite misleading! .301 opp ba @ home, 57.2ip 71 hits on the season. Sooner or later those hits will catch up with him, & they seemed to in his last outing vs the Indians (5.1ip 9h 6er & 3 hr. While it's unknown how Braden will fare, he does have 1 thing going for him- TB's numbers vs LHP are far from impressive. .246 for the team, & not a single starter is hitting over .270. TB @ home has been a pretty successful wager this season, but I just don't see any value backing a sp that gives up a ton of hits paired with an offense that has trouble vs lefties. @-165 no less. Hate laying chalk on the +1.5, and @ -145 I think I'd rather take my chances with the ML. TB team total u4.5-110 looks pretty good to me as well- the A's have allowed over 4 runs in just 3 of their last 15 games played.

thanks man, appreciate it

Phillies-Mets line is way off where I thought it would be. I thought the Mets would be -140 and the Phillies would be +130. Blanton has pitched 15 innings against NY while not allowing an earned run.The Phillies typically play better at Shea than at CBP vs. the Mets. It's all about urgency with these games and the Phillies should be feeling more of it.

With the line being +167, it's either going to be a Mets blowout or a Phillies win.

With Zito and Bergmann pitching tonight for the giants and nats, and the way the nats hit the braves and pretty much embarassed them this past weekend...over 8 is worth a shot...and with these two on the hill it intrigues me a little more.. i'm getting over 8 @ 1.89

thoughts?

I like the Over in Chicago tonight. Buehle has a death in the family and is going a day early to attend his grandfather's funeral on Wednesday. Gotta question his abilities on short rest, and his focus with the funeral looming. At the very least, its tough on your psyche.

Also Buehrle's July starts (KC twice and Oakland) have yielded 4, 2, and 4 runs. If he pitches like that against this squad, they'll cover the over by themselves.

I hate to lay -120 on a total, but I will here.

Damned Toronto line moved against me and I am pissed beyond belief! I took -106 thinking it would move higher, and I see Matchbook is now offering +107.

I am "counselor after a bad beat" pissed off. Have any of you heard couns go off after a bad beat? He makes Pulp Fiction sound G-rated.

Yes, we can all relate to the bad beats. Counselor's posts are great. I have similar thoughts in my head but rarely post them. Except I did go ape shit on Ned Yost when he gave up a five run lead in the bottom of the ninth earlier this season. I was pretty pissed last night needing one run to get off the push on OVER 10 at Great Amercan. Reds load em in the ninth with no outs and don't score...... But shit happens as we all know....

SD/CIN under 4 1st 5

3 of the 5 games this season have gone over.

Last 3
Peavy is 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP
Cueto is 1-1 with a 6.16 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP

Not too good a numbers for Cueto. I am focusing on the 1st half total though. Both bullpens haven't fared too well the last three games. Cin 16.2 IP 1.56 WHIP and a good 2.70 ERA. SD 30.2 IP 1.79 WHIP and a crappy 6.46 ERA. I could see this game opening up in the later innings but for some reason my gut is telling me that this stays under the 1st half total.

Cueto has never faced SD. Peavy is 8-0 in his career against the Reds with a 2.08 ERA. Look for Peavy to bounce back from a less than stellar start last time out. Cueto hasn't pitched very well lately but the SD lineup doesn't scare too many people although they have put up some runs lately. I always like to take an under in the NL because the pitcher has to bat once, maybe twice. IMO pitchers duel through 5 and then who the hell knows.

sportsnut, betcrimes and others,

For me I am lucky to be overly perceptive and shit just jumps out at me for no reason I could explain. I just eyeball things and honestly I just see trends . Thats how I noticed this Yankee trend and also how i noticed the Yankee trend after they win a home game in which they score 10+ runs (Satyr knows the stats on that one but only 3-2 so far in 2008 but losses to Boston) .

The rest I just use Covers Matchups , CBS Sportsline , Yahoo Sports , ESPN , Baseball reference , and on occassion Jim Fiest or sportsbettingstats which Tuck turned me on to. The main three are the first three mentioned......

BetCrimes seems to be like me (or me like him) noticing the different variances in stats and teams performances ...:shake:

Jays ML...W/Sox ML....small play A's ML......With the circumstances Buehrle should be emotional and want to pitch a perfect game tonight...He may not but he gets the win today.

I was pretty pissed that Cordero blew another save ! I had the Under 10 and small parlay Reds ML and Under . Instead of winning 2 units I lost a half .......always different ways to look at it ........

Hell I had the Under 11 @ Houston with Pitt +1.5 Runs . 3-2 to start the 9th and Atsros score 7 including the last 3 with 2 outs on a 3run inside the park HR .....

Crazy shit happens in just about every game we just tend to notice more of whats effecting our side / play .....

One could feel lucky to get the PUSH @ Great American , understandable one could feel pissed about not scoring bases loaded no out but the truth is the game situations dictate everything . SD blew how many leads in STL ? Three I believe where they going to blow another ? 2 run game the guy on 3 rd is sort of meaningless as a hit ties it . So you dont want to be aggressive with him on flyballs . Just put it in context its easier to swallow.....

My favorite is how times do we see a lead blown or total lost and the next guy comes up and in 2 pitches is easily retired ? Start to think why didnt they just pitch around the previous hitter ?

Baseball is three hours of pain !!! Hopefully followed by some enjoyment ......

GL all

(per SI) the noticeable reverses today are:

phils-mets - line moved from -184 to 163 with 68 % on mets ml

dodgers-rockies - moved from -154 to -138 with 58 % on rockies

jays - O's - huge move here from jays -119 to O's -116, with 63 % on toronto

A's - Rays - 74% on the Rays, it dropped from -159 to -148

Indians-Halos - 77% on the Angels, line dropped from -191 to -170.

obviously these are all FWIW

it's crunch time for me as i've lost 1/3 of my online account in the past 2 days. i have a bunch of two team parlays and im feeling good today. writeups will be short but here is what im on.

Atl @ Fla : Don't look now but the braves are making their usual push for the playoffs and are playing better on the road. morton isn't an ace but i think he would be a bigger fav if it weren't for miserable road woes for atl early in the year. vandenhurk hasn't pitched in a long time and he was never really good at all. i grabbed the bravos and over 9.5

Phi @ Nym : Mets can take the division lead w/ a win tonight and what better pitcher to have on the mound than johan. he had a bad outing last time out but he was on extended rest and he has never done well in that situation so i think he will bounce back VERY nicely. blanton has not given up a run to the mets in 15 IP, but his form is questionable. public is on the over but the line went down to 7.5, hopefully santana can just pitch a CG and i wont have to worry about the bullpen. philly bullpen is one of the best. i grabbed NYM/ Un 7.5

SD @ Cin : cincy will not be able to compete in the tough NL central but they are playing good baseball. peavy pitches well vs. the reds but with a team that can't score runs it doesnt matter. im putting much faith in cueto to shut down this weak SD team who doesnt have power or speed. im expecting both SP to pitch well but i trust cincy to bounce back from a rough loss last night. i'm on cincy/ un 8.5

Mil @ Stl : i had STL last night and they really teased me. i'm going to come back with em here w/ their best pitcher. this is a HUGE series and they need this game. hopefully lohse steps up once again and pitches well. i'm on STL/ under 9.5

lad @ col : their was a similiar situation earlier this year in which Lad tattooed the rocks in colorado and the total was 8.5, the next game they played they moved the total to 10 and it soared over the total w/ another LAD win. public is on the under but the line went from 9.5 to 10.5, the rocks hit lefties well but for some reason i think ubaldo gets rocked by an upstart offense who apparently likes hitting in denver. i just picked up ubaldo in fantasy and im afraid i have to bet against him AND bet the over 10.

chc @ ari : cubs can be VERY bad on the road and petit is underrated in public view but books know the deal. they set people up to pound marquis who has been pretty damn good especially on the road. zona offense stinks but im thinking they scratch across enough to stun the cubs again. i'm on dback and under 9.5

min @ nyy : i was on yank and under yesterday and im playing the same thing today. the under was obviously a bad bet and i was afraid the yanks would put up double digits (see yesterdays post). the yanks can't be beat at home right now and im hoping this bitch rasner can shut down a weak minny offense imo.

tex @ cws : the umpire totally fucked the sox yesterday. he should have got a called strike to ring up michael young and end the inning. instead it was called a ball and a walk led to a 3 run blast from hamilton which deflated the sox and i knew the game was over when that happened. sox need to stop the fucking bleeding and i hope buehrle goes out and mows down these rangers quickly tonight. i'm on the sox and under 10. hamilton might sit??
