Open Championship Discussion...

I'll go through my notes in the next couple of days, but I remember that you try and get a score on the front nine and hold on for dear life coming in

Last six winners at Troon have been American

Last six Open winners played the week before, with 5 playing in Scotland

Only 4 winners since 2000 have not won on the US or Euro Tour in the preceding 12 months

6 - All bar three winners this century finished in the top-6 previously or played at least 6 Opens previously (the venues don't matter). Tiger won on his 6th attempt in 2000, off a 3rd the previous year. 10 of the last 11 winners finished in the top 6 previously

When the Open was last held here, the ranking stats for the Top 5
Driving Accuracy - Avg 15.67, min 2, max 33
Driving Distance - Avg 9.5, min 4, max 15
GIR - Avg 13, min 6, max 23
Putting - Avg 15.67, min 7, max 33

In that Open, Phil finished in the top 3, his best effort in his first 17 Open's. Add to that, the top three each totalled 7-under for the week on the two Par 5's. So it does support a distance narrative

Those same stats for the last 10 winners
Driving Accuracy - Avg 28
Driving Distance - Avg 30
GIR - Avg 17
Putting - Avg 13

So we are looking for an American that played in the Scottish Open and has won in the past 12 months, played in atleast 6 Opens...... If we have more than 1 that qualify compare to your stats above.

It will become long if the wind blows from the south west.

otherwise, the opening three holes are Par 4's and are apparently drivable for some (367, 390, 377 yards), followed by a Par 5 that's easily reachable in two

Yeah DJ said there are scoreable holes early

Has Phil won in the past 12 months? If not, we would be looking for someone who fits most, not all

I'm gonna look into that top 6 finish OR played in last 6 Opens to see if it narrows down anyone.

That is what I meant...kinda read weird...
I was surprised that it goes back to 2013 for any victory for Phil. I do think he will play well this week though, like his prep playing the Scottish and also the fact that he had a good finish at Troon in 2004.

A few smarties jumping on Shinkwin in the smaller markets - top 20, top 10, make cut, debutant, etc

Don't see the value myself

Graeme McDowell has played in the last 6 Opens. Finished Top 6 in 1 of them.
Has won in the past 12 months and played in the Scottish Open last week.

One of the funniest moments of the 2015 Open Championship was when the tournament had to roll legendary starter Ivor Robson back out on the course after he had already announced (what he presumed to be) his last golfer to call the three men for the playoff. It was an encore of sorts and the last time we will ever see Robson at The Open. He received a proper sendoff. And now he will be replaced.
<iframe scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" id="undefined" allowfullscreen="true" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-width: initial; border-style: none; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; box-sizing: border-box; max-width: 100%; min-width: 100%; overflow-x: auto; width: 670px; position: absolute; visibility: visible; display: block; height: 377.24px; top: 0px; bottom: 0px;"></iframe>

But you don't just replace Ivor Robson with a single person. That's why two different men are taking over the starter spot (presumably because there are no other humans in Scotland who can keep themselves from going to the bathroom for 14 hours). Enter David Lancaster and Matt Corker.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to become the official starter," said Lancaster. "The Open is one of the most prestigious events in world sport and I have long been inspired by its heritage and the tremendous performances of the golfing greats over the years. Matt and I are very much looking forward to playing a part in history by introducing the players on the first tee."
Lancaster and Corker work for the same company that coaches individuals and organizations in giving high-quality presentations.
"We were looking for starters who would be comfortable performing in front of both the thousands of spectators on site and the millions around the world watching at home," said Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, executive director of the Championships at the R&A. "David and Matt were recommended to us for their expertise in this field and when we met it became clear that they would be an excellent fit for this role."
So one-plus-one will equal Ivor this year. The man who can never be replaced. The legend. I'm sure Lancaster and Corker will be great, but this spot will never be the same again.

He is...

Hicks and Miller doing Open is so weird...but good...

Johnny mad someone could shoot a 62...

Got some sleep this evening so hoping I can catch a bit more overnight this go round

Man would love to see JDay get to about -6 today and let the chips fall where they may

This is crazy: Jordan Spieth posts third-round 72. Hasn't gone under par at a major since Thursday at the Masters.

I went Zach -150, Sergio -195, Stenson -125 Parlay today.
And another one that ended w/ Phil +.5 -130
