Open Championship Discussion...

Went to Torrey when Tiger and Rocco battled it out on Monday

This is the best head to head I've seen since by far. Brilliant.

Yeah I've come to respect J Miller, couldn't stand him for years but he's grown on me and Hicks is solid. Getting Feherty was a coup.

Roger still annoys the piss outta me

Down 1 going into the day, Went as many under par on the day as the third place finisher did for the whole tournament and lose.

Amazing.

Phil shoots -17 at the Open and loses by 3.

He shoots -14 at the Masters last year and loses by 4.

Incredible.

Last six winners at Troon have been American

Last six Open winners played the week before, with 5 playing in Scotland

Only 4 winners since 2000 have not won on the US or Euro Tour in the preceding 12 months

6 - All bar three winners this century finished in the top-6 previously or played at least 6 Opens previously (the venues don't matter). Tiger won on his 6th attempt in 2000, off a 3rd the previous year. 10 of the last 11 winners finished in the top 6 previously

When the Open was last held here, the ranking stats for the Top 5
Driving Accuracy - Avg 15.67, min 2, max 33
Driving Distance - Avg 9.5, min 4, max 15
GIR - Avg 13, min 6, max 23
Putting - Avg 15.67, min 7, max 33

In that Open, Phil finished in the top 3, his best effort in his first 17 Open's. Add to that, the top three each totalled 7-under for the week on the two Par 5's. So it does support a distance narrative

Those same stats for the last 10 winners
Driving Accuracy - Avg 28
Driving Distance - Avg 30
GIR - Avg 17
Putting - Avg 13

Stenson brokethe US winning streakat Troon

Stenson played the Scottish Open the week prior, each of the top 4 did and 7 of the top 10

This was Stensons 12th Open and he had 3 previous top 6 finishes. He won the German Open about a month ago

He was 5th in accuracy and 1st in GIR (ranks in top 12 on PGA tour for both coming into the week). No one has distance or putting stats for the tournament up yet, but he did have 110 putts for the week. The top 10 averaged 20.5 for GIR and 22.8 for accuracy

The last 10 Open winners were aged 40, 39, 25, 43, 42, 42, 27, 36, 36, 35. Average age 36.5, and only 2 under 35

All things to look at for Birkdale in 12 months
