BIG SKY

FARMINGTON, Utah (Sept. 17 , 2023) —
Sacramento State upset Pac-12 foe Stanford on Saturday night, as the Hornets remained undefeated on the year following the thrilling 30-23 victory against their former head coach's new team.

Marcus Fulcher scored on a 49-yard pass from Kaiden Bennett with 1:32 remaining, as the Hornet defense forced a turnover on downs in the final drive to deliver the 30-23 victory for Sacramento State.

The result also gives the Big Sky Conference its third win over a Pac-12 foe since 2021, as Sacramento State's victory against Stanford joins Montana's win over Washington and Northern Arizona's upset against Arizona, which both came in 2021.

The Hornets carry their streak of 22 straight regular-season wins and 12 consecutive road victories to Moscow in Week 4 as Sacramento State opens Big Sky play at Idaho.

Another huge win this past Saturday came in Cheney, as Eastern Washington upended ranked Southeastern Louisiana 40-29.

It was a back-and-forth, punch-for-punch affair on the red turf in Cheney as the scoring margin was never more than 7 points until a late interception for a touchdown by EWU cornerback Marlon Jones Jr. — his first career pick-six — sealed the win with under 90 seconds left.

Also earning its first win of the year this past Saturday was Portland State, who made national headlines after winning 91-0 against North American University. The 91 points broke the Big Sky's single-game scoring record, which stood for almost 40 years.

Elsewhere, Montana improved to 3-0 after closing out its non-conference slate with a 17-10 win over defending D-II national champion Ferris State, as the Griz join Sacramento State as the only two undefeated Big Sky teams heading into league play.

Cal Poly, Montana State and UC Davis all earned wins as well on Saturday to improve to 2-1 on the year, with Sam Huard tossing six touchdown passes for the Mustangs to secure their first 2-1 start since 2016.

BIG SOUTH / OVC

It was a full schedule around the Association on Saturday, including the second Conference game of the season as Tennessee State used a late field goal to upend Gardner-Webb.

TENNESSEE STATE 27, GARDNER-WEBB 25 | BOX SCORE
The Tennessee State football team took down Gardner-Webb 27-25 in the John Merritt Classic on Saturday evening for their first Big South-OVC win of the year. After a 16 yard passing TD from GWU to go up 25-24, the Tigers, led by kicker James Lowery would tack on three more points with 12 seconds left as he connected on a career-long 50-yard FG to push TSU to the win.

EASTERN ILLINOIS 14, #25 ILLINOIS STATE 13 | BOX SCORE
Eastern Illinois quarterback Pierce Holley completed his first 20-passes of the game breaking a Panthers school record set by current Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton in 1986. Holley then completed seven of his final nine passes leading EIU on a game winning drive with 92 seconds remaining as the Panthers won the 111th Mid-America Classic 14-13 over No. 25 Illinois State.

UT MARTIN 66, HCU 7 | BOX SCORE
Kinkead Dent threw for 347 yards and accounted for six touchdowns (5 passing, 1 rushing) as UT Martin tallied 707 yards of total offense in a blowout win over HCU. Sam Franklin added 127 yards and a touchdown for the Skyhawks.

LINDENWOOD 43, WESTERN ILLINOIS 40 | BOX SCORE
After falling behind with 5:09 to play, Lindenwood used a 10-play drive and marched down the field, pulling off the victory on a Cole Dugger to Jeff Caldwell connection with 1:13 to play. Caldwell caught five passes on the evening, four of which went for touchdowns; he finished with 185 receiving yards

#15/18 SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 26, #13/15 SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 25 | BOX SCORE
Nic Baker threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Izaiah Hartrup on a fourth down with 11 seconds left as #15 Southern Illinois (3-0) pulled off a 26-25 come-from-behind win over #13 Southeast Missouri (1-2) Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 8,613 at Houck Field. The Salukis trailed the entire game until the final 11 ticks on the clock. Paxton DeLaurent completed 26-of-46 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown, and Geno Hess ran for 99 yards and one score to lead SEMO offensively.

BROWN 29, BRYANT 25 | BOX SCORE
Ryan Clark ran 5 yards for a touchdown with 63 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs (1-2) a 25-22 lead. But Jake Willcox needed just six plays and 43 seconds to march Brown 76 yards for the winning score with 13 seconds remaining. Zevi Eckhaus finished with 262 yards on 20-of-37 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

#4/4 WILLIAM & MARY 15, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 7 | BOX SCORE
Charleston Southern football saw its second-straight contest against a nationally-ranked program Saturday evening, falling to #4 William & Mary, 15-7, at Buccaneer Field in a low-scoring affair. Nivon Holland's kick return for a touchdown marks just the second time in program history that a kick was taken 100 yards to the house for a score. The last time it happened came back in 2010 as Gerald Stevenson did it at Buccaneer Field against Liberty. Holland's house call started two yards deep in his own endzone, but it goes in the books as a 100-yard return.

NORTH ALABAMA 20, TENNESSEE TECH 7 | BOX SCORE

NEC

In Saturday’s only NEC game, and the second of the 2023 slate, Wagner came out of Fairfield with a 17-10 win at Sacred Heart after holding off a late Pioneers’ comeback bid. Stonehill won for the second time in as many weeks after taking down Georgetown on the road, while Merrimack put a notch in the win column for the first time this season with a win over visiting Virginia University of Lynchburg. Central Connecticut (Kent State), LIU (Baylor) and Duquesne (Coastal Carolina) each fell to FBS opponents, while Saint Francis U came up short to #19/22 Delaware in a rematch of last season’s opening round FCS playoff game.

Kent State 38, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT 10
Kent State took a 21-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, as the Golden Flashes defeated visiting Central Connecticut, 38-10, on Saturday. Sophomore Jack Barnum put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard with a field goal in the fourth quarter before classmate Ricky Ortego capped off the afternoon’s scoring with a 17-yard touchdown run.

Baylor 30, LIU 7
Freshman quarterback Chris Howell ran for a 10-yard touchdown to pull LIU within nine points at halftime, but after a nearly two-hour stoppage at the break due to severe weather, Baylor put up two unanswered touchdowns to score a 30-7 win in Waco, TX. Senior defensive back Antwan Spencer delivered a season-high 10 tackles to pace the Sharks’ defense, which held the Big 12 squad to just seven points in the first quarter.

STONEHILL 23, Georgetown 20
Stonehill’s defense came up with two clutch defensive stops down the stretch to hold off Georgetown and hand the Hoyas their first loss of the season on Saturday. Senior Jermaine Corbett opened the game with a pair of first-quarter rushing scores while classmate Perry Shelbred kicked the go-ahead field goal in the final stanza to pace the Skyhawks, who secured the program’s first-ever non-conference win over an FCS opponent with the 23-20 final.

WAGNER 17, SACRED HEART 10
Fending off a Sacred Heart comeback bid, Wagner started off NEC play with a win and snapped a four-game skid against the Pioneers in the process with a 17-10 road triumph on Saturday. A third-quarter touchdown catch from Justin Wolf proved to be the difference for the Seahawks, who shut out the Pios in the first half behind three interceptions.

#19/22 Delaware 42, SAINT FRANCIS U 14
Saint Francis U got on the scoreboard first on a Cole Doyle touchdown pass to Casey McKinney, but #19/22 Delaware responded with six straight scores to help secure a 42-14 win. The contest was a rematch of last season’s opening-round FCS playoff game.

Coastal Carolina 66, DUQUESNE 7
Coastal Carolina came out firing early and never looked back as the Chanticleers rolled to a 66-7 home victory on Saturday. The Dukes managed to rack up 347 yards of offense against the second FBS opponent they faced in as many weeks, including 183 yards on the ground, but struggled to finish drives.

MERIMACK 44, Virginia University of Lynchburg 0
Merrimack scored five touchdowns in the first half and never looked back as the Warriors locked up their first win of the season against visiting Virginia University of Lynchburg by way of a 44-0 final. Sophomore quarterback Gavin McCusker accounted for two of his team’s touchdowns, including his third rushing score in as many games, while Tyvon Edmonds Jr. carried the ball 30 times for 214 yards and one touchdown.

He added a 37-yard field goal just before halftime, and Stetson trailed 41-6. Kaderris Roberts added a touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Hatters’ final points. Roberts finished the day with 67 yards on nine carries to lead the Stetson offense.

#1 South Dakota State 70, Drake 7

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Drake’s Luke Bailey found Colin Howard for a 35-yard touchdown completion to open the scoring. However, No. 1 South Dakota State pulled away for a 70-7 nonconference victory Saturday at Target Field. The Jackrabbits ran for 359 yards and five touchdowns, and quarterback Mark Gronowski threw for five touchdowns. Bailey completed 16-of-29 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown.

Princeton 23, San Diego 12

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After trading touchdowns in the first quarter, Princeton held San Diego to a pair of field goals the rest of the way to secure a 23-12 nonconference victory Saturday at Torero Stadium. Isaiah Williams’ one-yard run in the first quarter helped the host Toreros tie the game 7-7. Princeton would rebuild its touchdown lead with a 32-yard touchdown pass, and San Diego could only respond with Lehman’s 55-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 14-9 at halftime. Princeton scored a touchdown on its first drive of the second half, extending its lead to 21-9 before Lehman booted a 48-yard field goal for San Diego’s final points. Toreros quarterback Dom Nankil completed 20-of-37 passes for 209 yards.

Presbyterian 23, Wofford 20

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Tyler Wesley connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Worth Warner with 28 seconds remaining, and Presbyterian downed Wofford 23-20 in nonconference action at Gibbs Stadium. It was the Blue Hose’s first victory against their in-state rival since 1994, snapping the Terriers' seven-game win streak in the series. Presbyterian trailed 20-13 with 14:49 remaining in the game. Kicker Mack Mikko narrowed the deficit to four points with his 37-yard field goal at 9:55. Wesley then led the Blue Hose on an 18-play, 76-yard drive, ending with his 18-yard completion to Warner for the lead. Wesley completed 16-of-41 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

Butler 47, Wabash 21

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Bret Bushka threw two touchdowns and ran for another as Butler defeated Wabash 47-21 in nonconference action at the Sellick Bowl. Bushka opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter – that frame’s only points – before completing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Loss. Wabash scored twice in the second quarter, but Luka Zurak’s 48-yard field goal just before the horn gave Butler a 24-14 halftime lead that proved enough. Bushka completed 13-of-18 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Bulldogs offense.

United Athletic Conference (UAC) Football teams accounted for four victories Saturday, highlighted by Austin Peay securing the lone home win while North Alabama, Stephen F. Austin and Utah Tech all collected successful road tallies.

The Govs and Trailblazers produced offensive fireworks in capturing their first wins of the season with APSU dominating in-state rival ETSU, 63-3, and Utah Tech reaching a half century on the scoreboard in the 50-36 decision at Northern Arizona. The Lumberjacks earned their second victory of the year, topping longtime rival Northwestern State, 41-7.

UNA rounded out the celebrations by grabbing their second win of 2023 and doubling up their victory total from last year, in a hard fought 20-7 road win that saw the Lions force five turnovers against former OVC rival Tennessee Tech.

Read above, Morgan State's only pts were scored on special teams, all 10. For a team with such a good defense, they really have such a bad offense. They might be 3-0 if they had an average O to go with that D.

this is historic territory for Wofford and not in a good way. losing to non-scholarship FCS Pioneer football league participant, Presbyterian is NOT good....

There are some intriguing games this week

Brown - Harvard has been a recent mismatch. Last year Harvard led 21-0 and 35-7 but were actually in danger of losing the game late, hanging on to win 35-28 as 16 pt road fav. Two years ago they did outgain Brown 451-360 in the 49-17 win, but Harvard had 21 pts off turnovers with a 13y fumble return TD, and drives starting at the B04 and B18 after turnovers. Similar to what Harvard did last week vs St Thomas. Harvard only had 14 FDs yet 45 pts last week! Also of note, Harvard's new QB was just 7-of-19 passing, although he is a runner which is different for them. Brown has been scoring on them better the last two years they have combined to get into the 60s where as the two games previously were played in the 40s with minimal Brown scoring. Based on last week, it looks like Brown again will have a pretty good O, but a bad D. Harvard dismantled St Thomas, but I feel the jury is still out on how good their team may be this year. The running QB definitely adds a different dimension for them.

Another early Ivy opener has Cornell traveling to Yale. Should be interesting to see if the Cornell O has grown enough to move it on them better. Yale should be scoring.

Sacred Heart at Saint Francis is 0-3 vs 0-3, maybe not a surprise that SHU is 0-3 although they were favored at home in two games they lost. St Francis was an auto bid playoff team out of the NEC last year.

I had this game circled as a Butler play at Stetson. Don't want to be laying many pts however as Stetson can score on lesser teams. Was kind of hoping they'd be a dog, but PR does not look that way. I liked the Butler performance at Montana and think their O has some potential vs teams their own size. Stetson has beat two NAIA programs, one in OT by 3 where they were outgained by -200y and one by 10 where they outgained them by +200. Haven't played for a couple years but previous games have been close.

Georgetown at Columbia is also interesting since both teams lost last week, GT had been super hot but looked very ordinary and equal to Stonehill and Columbia just got dominated really by perhaps an improving Lafayette team. So which performance last week was a fluke? Columbia had their way with them last year, but the previous games have been closer.

Hell I guess I think every game is interesting!

Lindenwood won as a 7pt road dog at MVFC doormat Western Illinois. They step up a good bit here at Illinois State who has to still be pissed about losing to EIU. I was wondering if the ILL St D was for real or not, and well, they have had DD TFLs in every game this year and did it again last week with 12, 8 of those being sacks! Lindenwood was pretty impressive passing last week, but last time vs a quality team in SEMO they struggled mightily. When EIU wasn't being sacked, Holley and his receivers cut up the ILL St D pretty good (71%). I don't know about this one.

Mercer at Furman, Mercer is off a bye and think they probably needed it after an unimpressive start to the season where they had pretty high expectations as did alot of other people (2-1 SU which was expected, but the way they did it, 0-2 ATS vs FCS teams so underachieving I'd say). It appears that Mercer is missing Fred Payton at QB more than anticipated even though Peavy has started for them before, the O is not the same running through him. Still a pretty good D, limited both NAl and Morehead to just 248 and 306 total yards while clamping down in the RZ as well allowing just 2 TDs on 6 RZ trips in those. I feel that Furman hasn't played that well either this year. They were recipients of 6 turnovers vs Tenn Tech and did win that one 45-10, but only outgained them 93. It was 'just' and 8 point ATS cover and it seems like they had a harder time vs them than the score implies. Last week they could never maintain their margin at Kennessaw and I'm wondering how good this Furman D actually is. Kennesaw outgained them by 94y. If this was last year's Mercer team this week it would be Mercer for sure here. Furman has bye on deck.

Lehigh at Dartmouth and I would think this is a Dartmouth play. Lehigh does have two covers to their credit the last two weeks, but I'm saying the first vs Merrimack was vs a hungover Merrimack who had to play this game at Harvard instead of their home stadium the week after emptying the tank vs Holy Cross and last week Cornell was pretty much having their way with them, but Lehigh backdoored and covered the closing number despite being outgained by 162y. One concern is that the Dartmouth O was a train wreck to start last season and the first half of the game at UNH looked like more of the same and UNH is not known for their defensive prowess. This line will probably be north of 2 TDs which makes it a little iffy. I just assume that the Dartmouth D is good enough, I mean holding UNH below 275 total yards on the road is pretty good outing.

Those are some of the earliest games there.

That it is!

How do we feel about VMI this week vs Wofford? VMI had tons of yards week 1 vs Davidson, but were highly inefficient in translating those yards to pts (12 pts off 412 yards). Then they followed that up with just 295 yards at Bucknell in a 13-21 loss. I haven't looked to see how VMI played last week at NC State yet. Wofford losing last week probably means that VMI comes out a small fav or even?

not too sure on that pillow fight matchup...both teams are bad.

Looking to bet montana state this week, along with UNH, idaho state + nor. colorado over the total, and leaning idaho...

SNEAKY good matchups in FCS this weekend...

"On the Quarterback Situation
"(Collin) Ironside practiced last week but minimally, and we just felt like it would be in his best interest to not play him in this game. And then as you saw Collin Shannon went down and was not able to return so we have a situation that could be difficult to resolve this week, but I will remain optimistic and hopeful that we can have one or both of those guys available and practicing this week."

VMI started their backup (who started a couple last year) vs NC State, then he got hurt and they finished the game with their third string. So appears 1st and 2nd string buys banged up now.

I like New Hampshire vs Delaware as well. Sac State - Idaho is a good one! Not sure I have a side there right now, both teams off PAC12 opponents, Sac State obviously coming down from the Stanford upset high and all that goes with that win.

Dartmouth head football coach just passed away as the result of a bicycle accident in march. They are at home. Against overMatched Lehigh. I will be betting Dartmouth whatever the line. Huge emotional time for them. Win one for the coach.

Wow Buddy Teevens. I did not realize the full magnitude of his injuries that it could possible end his life. That sucks.

Teevens was an Ivy League Player of the Year as quarterback at Dartmouth and later became the football program’s winningest coach.
And he was also known nationally for his practice methods to protect players from concussions.
The former history major worked to reduce full-contact practices by focusing on technique, leading to the development at Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering of the Mobile Virtual Player, a robotic tackling dummy that has also been used by other college programs and NFL teams.

@s--k you cover so much this may have been mentioned by you. Don’t want to muck up the thread but thought this was the place. I knew his background some, but I lived the Tulane years.

Figured this was good place, hope you don’t mind.

Just posted as well, did not see yours.

I like it.

After playing at South Dakota and at Harvard and getting blown out in both, I'm wondering how St Thomas responds here hosting one of the weaker teams around in Morehead St. St Thomas while transitioning from Dlll to FCS is ineligible for the playoff bid, but have been the best team in the Pioneer since their arrival two years ago. They are 5-1 ATS as a DD fav since then which they will be in this game. Something seems off with them though and I think it is the QB, they've played two and both are young and have struggled. If not for that they'd be showing better than they have, even week 1 vs Dll Black Hills they weren't as good offensively. Playing Morehead State should be what the doctor ordered as they could run for 250+ and the young QBs should find some success vs them. Morehead is off a bye. They covered vs Mercer where they were only trailing by 8 in the 3Q. Prior to that, Morehead State barely beat West Virginia State.

I'm liking this West Carolina team and it isn't a stretch to think they could win the SoCon. They showed no let down last week after dominating Samford at home, they traveled to EKU came from behind and left with a win. They play some D now and RB Reid is looking like one of the top RBs in the country to go with their passing O as Gonzales is proving he is the guy at QB there. If they keep it up, they will be looking for a new HC next year as Kirwin Bell will be getting FBS head job offers. I targeted playing against Charleston Southern the last two weeks. William & Mary I just don't know what is going on there with their offense. They had issues 2 weeks ago against Wofford and I wrote that off thinking they will fix that and come out better vs Charleston Southern and then last week they had the same issues again. So then, is that good on the Charleston Southern D .... or did Charleston Southern just do what Wofford did the week prior and the issue is really with the W&M O rather than something remarkable about Charleston Southern's D. Sometimes it is just hard to unsee something and I can't help but see their game week 1 vs North Greenville and how poor Charleston Southern looked - only won 13-10 and were outgained. Then last week Charleston Southern was outgained by 318y (395-77 (6.0-1.8)), their only score was a KO return TD in the 15-7 Final. I am going to lay it again vs them this week as I don't think they are any good and do like WCU. I'm not sure the odds are catching up as quickly as they should with Western Carolina, the voters aren't either. This team is good.

I heard that Richard got hurt for North Carolina Central in their mismatch at UCLA They are playing Mississippi Valley State this week who has lost vs two Dll schools to open the season (they are 0-2 had a bye week 2). Last week Delta St was said to be a 20-something favorite and they won 35-7! I don't know how anybody could be PR'd below MVSU right now. PR implies this line could open below 21 (played in Indy), all I know about NCCU is that Richard makes that team go. Even if he doesn't play I'm tempted to play against MVSU in my first chance of the year to do so, spread depending.

I've won a couple times on Eastern Illinois and am interested in potentially playing them again home vs a weak McNeese State team. Truth be told, EIU has not been all that impressive in their two wins, but they have been good enough on O yet really haven't played a good complete game on offense. Their D have proven to be fairly disruptive which has been a big contributing factor in their upset wins vs Indiana State and Illinois State. Indiana St is very bad and Illinois State is respectable atleast. Two wins vs MVFC teams none-the-less. McNeese just lost to Alcorn, so I am assuming they are pretty bad. McNeese only had 278y vs Tarleton to open, won't count their Florida loss and they only had 199y last week vs Alcorn in the 3-17 loss there. Alcorn themselves were looking pretty rough and they outgained McNeese by 138y so that tells me this McNeese team is pretty bad. Eastern Illinois should be having their best offensive game of the season here and Holly has looked pretty good at times. McNeese beat them by 14 last year, but tables look turned right now.

Thinking I am going to play Bryant at Princeton, this line will probably be about 2 TDs? Full disclosure I am 0-2 on Bryant this year as I had some week 1 at UNLV and last week home vs Brown. They actually outgained both of those teams. Bryant has some offense and a good QB in Eckhaus. Bryant is not good on D, that is a problem. Princeton looks down, I thought before their lackluster game at San Diego they looked down and last week didn't change any of that thinking. They still have a decent QB, but a lot of new around him and the DL which was a strength last year is all new. Bryant has played some good games as bigger dogs last year, notably only losing at Holy Cross by 7 catching 22, beat Campbell as 8pt home dog, only lost to Garner Webb by 8 catching 16. Princeton on the other hand has some less than dominant games last year to go with this year's opener.

Merrimack at Wagner should be good. Wagner did beat Sacred Heart last week, but they only had 219y in that one and were outgained by 123y, they benefitted from +3 TOs and a pick-six. On the season they are only averaging 3.1ypc and completing just 46% of their passes. Merrimack was 5-1 in the NEC last year and beat Wagner 54-17. This Merrimack team looks pretty good again and really gave Holy Cross a game for 2.5 quarters then unexpectedly was a no-show vs Lehigh before their get right game vs Virginia Lynchburg last week. I think that is just what this team needed and Wagner's win last week and Merrimack's loss 2 week ago may give a favorable line, two different PRs have this as a 6.5 and 7 pt road fav spot for Merrimack which they should cover I'd assume.

@s--k you cover so much this may have been mentioned by you. Don’t want to muck up the thread but thought this was the place. I knew his background some, but I lived the Tulane years.

Figured this was good place, hope you don’t mind.

You lived the Tulane years and we all probably have forgotten the Stanford years, but he was there not doing so hot. Hey credit to him finding his niche and obviously he was a good coach just at the FCS level and there isn't anything wrong with that. I'm sure he is very content with his legacy.

Really like Campbell at that line of -1. Slow to catching up to this Campbell team with the lines.

Elon was playoffs last year, but aren't as good this year. One glaring stat, their 3rd down offense, last week against a solid D in North Carolina A&T, they went 0-for-13. Not a one game thing. Vs Garnder Webb they were 4-15 and perhaps understandibly, vs Wake they were 2-16. Let's not hold the WF game against them, but the last two weeks they have converted just 4-of-28 on 3rd down. Now they have gone 5-of-6 on 4th down in those, that is 14% 3rd down rate - their O is not operating very well. They lost a multi-year starting QB off last year's team and the two they've played this year aren't up to that standard. Georgia/TCU transfer Downing is getting the most PT now. They are giving up more sacks this year as well, might be due to QB as the OL should still be pretty good. Running game is what they are best at. Only 27 pts on A&T isn't so hot considering A&T is offensively challenged - holding them to 143 total yards is nice (2.8) in skewing the overall numbers, but GW went for 437 (5.3) the week prior and led that game by 7-10 most of the game and by 14 in the 4th Q before some circumstances allowed Elon to tie unexpectedly. Bottom line, I don't think this Elon team is where it was last year, but the spreads are still coming out like they are. Why wouldn't Campbell be favored by more at home vs them? Campbell put up 310y and 24 pts on William & Mary and W&M's D has been nothing short of outstanding so far this year. Campbell did backdoor that game, but I think they actually did well for themselves in that game. 310y and 24pts, for perspective W&M has allowed a total of 233y and 13pts their last two games combined against weaker SoCon and BigSouth/OVC foes. Outside of that game, Campbell torched The Citadel, which everyone is doing and then lit up Monmouth for 435y (6.2) and 45 pts last week. Campbell QB Williams is a vet and puts up good numbers and their new RB Rogers was CAA O POW last week. Offense should not be a problem for this team vs an Elon D I think is also down this year as their O is. The key thing is going to be if Campbell can handle the Elon run game and there is some weakness there for the Campbell D. Overall I am still fine taking Campbell especially at something like -1 here. They DNP last year, but did in 2021 with an eventual 6-5 Elon team beating an eventual 3-8 Campbell team 24-23. I think Elon peaked last year and this Campbell team is only getting better.

The last Princeton game to go Over was the 2021 finale! I think I might ML Bryant. Princeton just rarely impressively beats teams, last week at San Diego is only the latest example. There were a couple games that looked like good margins on the scoreboard (Cornell, but check Cornell had 285-229 yard edge - Brown, but check Brown had 339-258 yard edge - Stetson, only outgained them by 3 yards) - they just don't really dominate the way that I think their record and scores imply they do. We don't know what we don't know with new faces and names, but Princeton lost some big time skill players off that O last year, they might be ok, but can't see them being better with the secondary players stepping into those primary roles now.

Also good for under and Campbell, didn't realize they're off a cross country road trip

Sac State has won 22 straight regular season games. Sac State D still really good and Bennett has been outstanding replacement at QB for them, Bennett alone I think is better than what they had last year with the Dunniway/O'Hara combo. Former DC and now HC is still calling the D. Idaho is really surging last year and this, they have some of the best QB-WR-RB set around. I've heard people say they think WR Hayden Hatton is the best player in the country. Last year was 31-28 Sac State at home. I don't know who I'd play in that one. Big Sky opener for both teams. Some intangibles for Idaho's home opener. They should've hosted the round 1 playoff game last year, but it was right after those murders and they decided to travel for that game to SE La and they lost. So I don't think they have hosted this big of a game last year and with the expectations surrounding this team. Big one in the Kibbie Dome and a must watch! If the line were to stay a pick, it's hard to not go with Idaho, but man Sac State has been so good for a while now and no drop off this year yet.

SEMO road fav at EKU. Both team off tough home losses where they could've won with one little play different here or there. Tough game to pick. EKU D isn't good and that is an issue. SEMO was -6.5 at home last year so seeing them -3.5 on road here, I think that reflect poorly on the EKU D. Parker McKinney is going to do his thing one would expect. SEMO was actually outgained by 206y in that 1 pt loss to SIU last week, SIU lost 4 turnovers and while SEMO only lost one, it was a very very very costly one. Must be an excruciating loss to have to bounce back from. EKU really needs this sitting 0-3 while SEMO has a bye on deck and can't afford to go into that just 1-3. Really big for both teams. I have no opinion really, home dog tempting, but their D scares me.

Delaware and New Hampshire have not played in a few years. Coming into this year I was not high on this Delaware team mostly because of their QB but certainly because of their D which made significant improvement from 2021 to 2022 and this year was a ? I figured their O would not be as good and their D would not be as good. We haven't really had a chance to see that yet as they have played some over-matched opponents being a 2TD+ road fav week 1 and nearly a 4 TD home fav last week. 2-0 ATS in those. I do like UNH's team and while it is hard to trust their defense - they do return their best players from last year's D (two All CAA DEs) where as Delaware lost 5 of their 6 best players off D and lost more overall - I do think this is the week we really see the 2023 Delaware D regress. Well, we saw it vs Penn State, but that is apples and oranges really. New Hampshire is going to stress them. It was very windy last week for the Dartmouth - UNH game, that could explain why Brosmer had such an off game and they leaned heavily on the run game. Line is only Delaware -2.5 at home, I have not watched or been involved in Delaware lines, but UNH lines have moved with action on them this year, if I had to guess I might think they end up favored here.

Dartmouth coach dying likely will have a massive impact on that game Saturday

soft lines are being released. have to bang dartmouth -15.5...

I see it as a low scoring game, not sure I can go Under 39.5. Lehigh HC was Yale OC last year so could be some familiarity. Lehigh can certainly be run on, but Cornell's success last week was big plays passing. That is not Dartmouth's O. Dartmouth 2022/2023 O has mostly been trying to figure out how to use their running who can't throw in QB Howard while also getting the thrower Cadawaller into the game. They had magic with a two QB system prior as recently as 2021, but they lost the passer Kyler and haven't been able to recreate that. Lehigh isn't very good. Probably better on D than they are on O. Dartmouth mostly has not been very good, but has more potential to be good if they figure some things out. Dartmouth something like 27-10, 30-7? Lehigh's starting C Padezanin has been out the last 2 games so they shuffled the interior OL around some. Their leading TD catching WR Johnson from last year has also missed the last 2 with injury.

Surely Dartmouth is going to care a lot and be highly motivated, but what does that look like exactly when it comes to the score?

I don't care the name on the jersey of the opponent, it could be Lehigh or Texas for all I care.

This is a situation where emotion tends to win the first half then get spent in the second half. Will play Dartmouth 1h and Lehigh 2h on principle

I’ll see if Pratt is a go. Tulane can cover that 31’…

I was thinking ODU could be good to play. But don't know, sometimes with the scheduling the FBS teams kind of mail a game like this in, off the close game vs Wake and Marshall on deck, this game is not going to be full attention, effort, focus for ODU. I mean, they generally always say the right things, but teams just don't bring it consistently week to week in college. Tulane seems in a better spot situationally.

What did it open at? I kind of liked Brown to keep it a 2 score game and we still don't really know what Harvard is yet after last week. Brown played a pretty typical game for them vs Bryant. I had 18 at Bet Rivers this afternoon when everyone else was 16 so I took that. I was surprised it moved this way, normally action would not be going on Brown when they play a team like Harvard unless those people also think it is too soon and too uncertain to lay that with Harvard vs a conference foe.

I haven't gotten into the polls and all that, which really sound like they are more of a mess and more controversial than the FBS polls. But I heard Harvard got ranked after their win vs St Thomas. Voters are ready to back Harvard, bettors not so much if the spread move is an indication.

That is crazy when you have Western Carolina who is 2-1 with two wins vs teams who were in the playoffs last year and their only loss was at an SEC school, yet Harvard gets ranked because they beat St Thomas.

Not sure as I was working on FBS stuff and happened across it earlier this afternoon but wasn’t stalking it since it wasn’t on my list. Saw 14 get juiced to 126 and 54.5 do the same.

Well, Harvard's DL is going to be a beast all year that I know. They have a dual threat QB now, which just one game, looks like he is better runner than thrower. Ivy teams have faced that with Grooms at Yale and Wang at Cornell so getting to see him on film could help Brown defensive gameplan vs just being subjected to it game 1 like happened last week.

They used to put these Friday Ivy games on ESPNU, but not demoted to ESPN+

sad. I actually really like ivy league football. its a real shame their champion doesnt participate in the NCAA D1-aa playoffs.

embarrassing by the league too, their fricken teams only play 9-10 regular season games...

The league is very content doing their own thing. For me, the real disappointment is they only have 4 years of athletic eligibility I'm pretty sure. They lose all their graduate athletes who can go somewhere else and play with remaining eligibility. Like Harvard's best WR, Kym Wimberly transferred to Delaware, he's their #2 receiver and their leader in TD catches so far. Edit, maybe it was last year they lost a LB transfer to UCLA. Their top CB transferred to Boston College. Not being able to play as a graduate student really sucks for the Ivy athletes. They lose their top talent, but the transfer portal very rarely works the other way for them. As for the playoff, they would not fair well.

They would fair just as well as pioneer, OVC, nEC or PL champions do

Right. It just doesn't seem the league/schools are interested in sending their teams around the country for playoff games. They don't play good teams outside of their geographic location in non-conference play now anyway. A different way of doing things. I actually really like that they do not participate in the playoff because it makes being the Ivy Champion the one and only thing that matters and I value that. What I don't like is that they do not break their ties, they award co-champs even though there is a head-to-head game to break the tie. In 2021, the league recognizes both Dartmouth and Princeton as Ivy Champs. BUT, Dartmouth beat Princeton 31-7 that year. Each team finished 9-1 and both were 6-1 in the Ivy. Dartmouth should be the only Champion for 2021, not a co-Champ when Dartmouth beat the other Co-Champ. That is pretty weak and that is really my only beef with how they do things.

Anybody have an idea on the Cal Poly - Portland State game? Projecting like Portland St a 10 pt or a little more favorite.

Cal Poly had what I thought was an unimpressive yet spread covering win vs San Diego, then as expected waxed by San Jose and they rolled a Dll team last week.

Portland State was crushed by Oregon, they hung respectibly with Wyoming the week after WYO's OT game vs TT and then last week Port St rolled an NAIA team last week where they held North American to TWO first downs and NEGATIVE 23 total yards.

Has Huard improved from game 1? Assuming Portland St is the better team? Gut is telling me the game is competitive and that is a lot of pts.

Something to keep in mind with Harvard games perhaps, they were the most penalized team in the Ivy last year and many were costly taking away positive plays or helping the opponent keep drives alive. So far tongiht they have been called for 3 personal foul penalties in the 2H. One was kind of a flop/acting by Brown QB, but Harvard hasn't very disciplined last year and that may be continuing this season.

Brown outgains them 447-445, lose by 3. Harvard RB fell down at the 1 with 1-1/2 min left so they could take knees. So could've been a 10 pt win by Harvard. Their O started slow, their new QB looked shaky to open, but 2Q and especially 2H their O came alive and he got comfortable and had some nice moments. Brown QB made a lot of really good throws, some very tight throws, some could've should've been picked off. Brown O really did well though - so Brown O up or Harvard D down? Probably both.
