It was a good day to be the home team in the Pioneer Football League as all five home teams won in going-away fashion. Morehead State stunned unbeaten St. Thomas, moving both to 4-1 in PFL action, while Drake shutout Marist to stay unbeaten in league play. Drake will travel to St. Thomas next week and host Morehead State in two weeks. Elsewhere, Presbyterian downed Dayton and has back-to-back wins for the first time as a PFL member and Butler and San Diego rolled at home to cap the week’s action.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Presbyterian 28, Dayton 7
Butler 46, Stetson 13
Morehead State 21, St. Thomas 7
Drake 19, Marist 0
San Diego 40, Davidson 13

Presbyterian 28, Dayton 7

CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian’s defense and special teams units carried the day in a 28-7 victory against Dayton at Bailey Memorial Stadium, giving the Blue Hose their first-ever back-to-back league wins since joining the league in 2021. Presbyterian’s defense forced four turnovers and kept Dayton scoreless until late in the third quarter. Tariq Hollinger recovered a pair of fumbles, Jacob Thornton another, and Zeb Stroup picked off a pass. Kicker Peter Lipscombe provided the bulk of the scoring with four field goals – from 37, 27, 22, and 34 yards – and a pair of PATs to finish with 14 of the Blue Hose’s 28 points. Presbyterian quarterback Collin Hurst completed 22-of-27 passes for 208 yards to pace the offense. Dayton running back Mason Hackett broke up the shutout bid with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter courtesy a two-yard touchdown run. Flyers quarterback Drew VanVleet completed 26-of-40 passes for 231 yards.

Butler 46, Stetson 13

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Butler running back Nick Howard ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Butler past Stetson, 46-13, at the Sellick Bowl. Howard had a 10-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and ran for a seven-yard TD to put Butler ahead 25-0 at halftime. Howard tacked on an eight-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Butler led 32-0 before Stetson broke through. Howard finished his day with a five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Butler’s defense also chipped in with Jeremiah Jackson’s 100-yard pick-six later in the fourth. Howard finished the day with 92 rushing yards on 19 carries and was 1-of-3 passing. Stetson’s Brady Meitz completed 27-of-40 passes for 210 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Bailey to get the Hatters on the board late in the third quarter.

Morehead State 21, St. Thomas 7

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Carter Cravens threw three touchdowns as Morehead State remained in the thick of the PFL title race with a 21-7 win against previously unbeaten St. Thomas at Jayne Stadium. Morehead State scored on the game’s opening possession when Cravens found Ryan Upp for a 22-yard touchdown. St. Thomas would respond in kind on its first possession as Tak Tateoka hit Colin Chase for a 68-yard touchdown to tie the game. But the Morehead State defense would not allow St. Thomas another point over the final 54:10. Meanwhile, Cravens led the Eagles to touchdowns in the second and third quarter – first a 20-yard touchdown to Trevion Green and then a 12-yard strike to Nate Garnett. Cravens completed 12-of-18 passes for 196 yards to lead the way. Hope Adebayo ran for 142 yards on 24 carries to led St. Thomas offensively.

Drake 19, Marist 0

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake won its 16th consecutive PFL outing in shutout fashion, downing Marist 19-0 at Drake Stadium. The Bulldogs finish Week 10 along atop the PFL standings at 5-0 with contests against the league’s two 4-1 squads looming in the next two weeks. Saturday, Luke Bailey completed 18-of-25 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter to Parker Olthoff. Shane Dunning added a pair of field goals and Davion Cherwin capped the day with a 25-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Marist quarterback Sonny Mannino completed 19-of-33 passes for 120 yards.

San Diego 40, Davidson 13

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego used a 30-point second quarter to push past Davidson, 40-13, at Torero Stadium. Tied 7-7 entering the second quarter, San Diego scored 24 unanswered points. Aidan Lehman connected on a 42-yard field goal to start the outburst, and Jerry Riggins turned the momentum squarely in the Toreros’ favor with a 73-yard scoop-and-score five minutes later. Grant Sergent tacked on two big touchdowns – a 60-yard strike to Bradley Schlom and a 31-yard connection with Ja’seem Reed – to extend the lead to 31-7. Davidson would get a 32-yard touchdown run by L. Durkin to break the run, but Sergent responded on the next drive with a 21-yard touchdown to Reed, salting the game away before halftime. Sregent completed 19-of-27 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns, with Reed catching 14 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Davidson ran for 228 yards and two touchdowns, led by Sam Valor’s 77-yard, nine-carry outing.

Not much at first glance but haven’t had time to get into it yet. Maybe Nova, Tarleton, Jackson State and SELA…

Not much at first glance but haven’t had time to get into it yet. Maybe Nova, Tarleton, Jackson State and SELA…

I'm on the road this week and in a non-legal betting state so no openers unless I get a phone-a-friend. Won't be looking towards this weeks games until Wednesday

Dartmouth at Princeton – Princeton is just 2-6 ATS and 0-3 ATS as a dog. Over the last 4 games, when they start slow, they lose big. Last week Cornell jumped out scoring on 4 straight possessions while Princeton gained 37y on their first 3 possessions and the Tigers lost by 14. Vs Harvard, the Crimson scored on 4 of their first 5; Princeton went 3-out-punt on 3 of first 4 and lost by 32. 4 games ago Mercer led 17-0 early, Princeton only drove into Mercer territory once in the 1H and Mercer won by 27. In their lone win over the last 4 games, Tigers scored on 4 of their first 5 and beat Brown by 12. It is unlikely the Princeton gets off to a good offensive start this week as Dartmouth’s D is more like Harvard and Mercer than Brown. Dartmouth is top 3 in every significant defensive category in the Ivy except for RZ D and TDs allowed in RZ. Otherwise Dartmouth’s D should pose quite a challenge for this Princeton O. Especially at the LOS where Princeton has annually been weak and again this year, Princeton has allowed 5 or more sacks in 5 of their 7 games – bad news because Dartmouth D is #1 in the league in sacks. Princeton has had a lot of recent success replacing veteran QBs with a new starter, that trend is ending this year, Hipa is the worst full time starter in the Ivy (7-12 ratio just 53.7%). Dartmouth D has had some issues with the better Os in the Ivy like Yale and Harvard, but vs the average types, Columbia, CCSU 3 weeks ago, Penn, Merrimack – vs those 4 they only gave up 282 ypg (4.6) allowing just 17 ppg. Dartmouth D should be well equipped to handle whatever Princeton tries to do which ranks dead last across the board offensively.

Concern for Dartmouth is they have found themselves in a lot of close games as their O is more of a ball control lengthy drive type – they only beat Merrimack 16-14 (Dart won on walk-off FG), Penn 20-17 (this game was actually not as close as final), CCSU 20-16 (Dart took lead late 4Q) and Columbia 24-21 (flurry of late pts by Columbia game wasn’t that close). I’m not talking about the Fordham or Yale wins as I don’t think those games are comparable at all to what should happen here. So as we can see, vs offenses that are somewhat comparable to Princeton, there are lots of close wins either ones that played out that way or ones that were fairly impressive wins that looked close and shouldn’t have. This leads to an unimpressive 1-3 ATS for Dartmouth as a favorite all games considered (only cover was Fordham). Dartmouth is projecting to be road favs of 4.5 (Massey) or 6 (Sagarin). Regardless of winner, the last two years have been decided by 2 and 3 pts. So having a Dartmouth team that has often failed to win by margin and recent series history point to a close game – Princeton started sliding last year and Dartmouth shared the Ivy crown and it was still just a 23-21 Dartmouth win. Dartmouth should win this game, but laying the points is rough.

The projected total looks high, 49.5 and 52.3. For 3+ quarters the Dartmouth D did an outstanding job vs Harvard last week – which I think Harvard possesses the best O in the league. Harvard came out 10-0 lead, but was held in check for most of the next 2Q and Big Green led 27-17 4Q until they allowed two TD drives totalling 167y in the final minutes. Harvard puts up yards and points and goes Over every week. Dartmouth is 4-3 to the Over, Princeton is actually 5-2 to the Over after historically being a great Under team, but the D is just so different this year allowing a lot of pts. I still envision this being an Under game at the kind of number Massey and Sagarin are seeing. These two have averaged just 34.6 combined pts the last 5 years. I don’t know the O/U for all those years, I do know last year’s 23-21 game went Over but only because the total was 34.5! The previous years I have totals for went Under 42.5 in 2022 and Under 45.5 in 2021. Question is, how does Princeton’s D being down effect this year’s total? Dartmouth’s O isn’t a put up a lot of pts type team still, their D is good and Princeton O is not good, so 3 of the 4 units on the field would indicate Under I think. Combining results this year and recent games in the series, I think I will look towards some kind of Dartmouth play on a very short number if it exists or low ML if possible - and on the flip side if it were to be higher than expected, then I might have to hold my nose and take Princeton +7 or more just on the close game angles mentioned above (the Reddit line has it at 10). And if the total were to be 50+ would also lean Under.

I have a hard time with the Duquesne - Robert Morris game partially because RM has been a play in team for me. Some of their O struggles are concern. Duquesne is better and I can excuse last weeks performance although it raised some questions with their pass D. I envision a close game.

I’ve mostly steered clear of big SWAC fans this year but if I’m remembering right big SWAC favs have done well so me avoiding them isn’t proving wise just not an appetite.

Second game posted at FD. Assume they start coming now. I’m at an airport and will need to rely on somebody else to get games in for me.

-9.5 too much for me with Duquesne so I’ll pass although Robert morris is decent value at that number

Waiting on a few more to come out as nothing of interest as of yet

At home. My surrogate in Ohio didn't help me out with openers when I was flying this afternoon. Not sure what some of the numbers may've been. Put some bets in on the drive home. Will be mostly game day betting.

Oddslogic went to fee service last week so that was a cool site, but I am not going to pay for it to see what lines are.

Fan Duel has never limited me. I have bet a few hundred dollars on things and it has always gone through. Bet Rivers is only the one that ever limited me, and I know they did to you too sleepy. Do you think the Iowa 'market' might dictate limits?

Watching the Ivy game. I have the open ML on Dartmouth, came back the other way for a little when it got 9.5 on Princeton. Was hoping for 10, but never popped and nobody had it to buy and didn't want to pay the juice for the alt line at MB. Have some live Unders also, which the TD before HT didn't help, but could still hit.

Hey, one thing if you guys have not noticed on Heritage, some of their 1H lines are not proportional to the full game lines. Like tonight, when I took Princeton +9.5, I was also able to take Dartmouth -3 1H. That line shouldn't have been -3 if the full game line was 9.5. They have done this all year, if the full game spread changes, they don't always adjust the 1H line. FYI

I did see when Montana State opened at 14.5 and quickly went to 15.5 and is now over 17.

How about Stony Brook only -1.5 or ML -120? Albany has been bad all year, thought last week was a spot they could play better at home vs UNH but they didn't. Maybe people pausing on SB after the shaky game at Bryant, but that is a pretty cheap number on SB that I expect will be moving on game day.

I was dreaming about Delaware State, maybe Marqui Adams is back, took them when I woke up just because. Pretty bad bet if Adams isn't returning. Injury is undisclosed, it's not season ending, but I can't find anything out. They have been shut out in 2 of the last 3 without him.

Looking at some potential Dll games depending what MB posts and I saw this Clark Atlanta - Morehouse game. The only game the last two years that Morehouse has won is vs Clark! This year they do already have one singular win (Kentucky State) so it would be win #2 if they beat Clark today. Clark looks like a small road fav, season finale for both teams. Morehouse has won 4 straight in the series, for such a bad team, they must really have Clark's number. Clark was 0-10 last year, 3-7 2022, a few other winless seasons, I can't find the last time they had a winning season. They are 6-2-1 right now off beating Tuskegee for the first time in 17 years. New coach this year. Will see what MB posts on this one.

Weird I just counted, only 29 FCS games on my Fan Duel, there should be 58 lined games, so they only released openers on half them.

I don't get that Delaware -10.5 line vs URI. It is close to some of the PR numbers (Massey 8.5, Sagarin 5.5, Reddit 9). Delaware was -14.5 last week vs Alabany and won 28-14 but only had a 353-342 ttl yard edge. UA missed FGs from the D23 and D25 after 50+ yard drives and later threw an INT at the D13. Delaware scored on 3 of their first 4, then only 1 TD on their final 5 possessions. Similar to the loss at Richmond where they moved it ok in the 1H (FG R16, Fum R18, punt, TD) and then had no drive in the 2H past the R36. 3 games ago Delware trailed Maine at HT 13-14 and Hens led just 23-21 early 4Q then they errupted for 21pts to close. Delaware did have big yardage edge in that game thanks to the final 3 drives of the game where Hens outgained Maine 197-9 in yardage. The Maine game was close for 3Q, Richmond could say exposed them, Albany played them closer than the score shows, and now we have them 10.5 pt fav over 8-1 Rhode Island? Rhode Island hasn't alwasy looked like an undefeated FCS team, although last week they did outgain Monmouth 476-335. Yardage was close in a low scoring game with Maine, but URI beat them by 10. Their D kept a low output UHN O down as they should have. URI just held Monmouth to their lowest total yardage of the year, 335 (4.4). Monmouth came into that game averaging 505. Seems like URI is going to be in this game.

FCS's leading TD passer Sam Vidlak from SFA (27 TD passes) looks to be out today after being injured 4Q vs Nicholls. It may not matter who is playing QB for SFA as last week McNeese completed just 2 of 12 pass attempts, but ran for 367 on Texas A&M Commerce (now known as East Texas A&M). Maybe this news drops the line some? Maybe not, ET A&M is on an 0-3 ATS slide and 0-4 ATS slide as dogs.

I actually played Clark last week +230. The game was never in much doubt. Remarkable turnaround from Clark this year. Morehouse is awful. But this is a huge rivalry. They got the Tuskegee albatross off their neck last week. Can they do it again this week?

MB has one up now.

Bloomsburg has beat Millersville 23 of the last 24, Millersville did beat them last time the game was at Bloomsburg 2022 as it is today.

It is pricey -725 but I am going to take some because it is something new to bet right now. Bloomsburg is 5-4, Millersville is 0-9.

That Yale line -7 hosting Brown is very suspicious. It is half of what all the PR lines show and Yale has dominated Brown pretty good recently, which those were Ivy Champion Yale teams with Nolan Grooms, the Ivy's best offensive player the last two years. Yale has won 6 straight and they have all been blowouts

I commented on a news outlet's preview of Morgan - DSU twitter post asking about Marqui Adams and they removed my comment. Like, asking if the best player who has missed the last 3 games is wrong? Based on the line, I'd say he isn't going and my dream is going to cost me money
