From Nyra.com:

Stakes action at Saratoga Race Course will get off to a quick start with two graded stakes scheduled for Friday's Opening Day: the Grade 3, $150,000 Lake George and the Grade 3, $150,000 Schuylerville.

The Lake George, for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles on turf, is likely to feature a full field led by Dale Romans trainee Sweeping Paddy, a 3 ½-length winner of the Grade 3 Regret on June 17 at Churchill Downs, and trainer Chad Brown's Grade 3 Wonder Again runner-up Fifty Five, who finished two lengths behind the recent Grade 1 Belmont Oaks winner, stablemate New Money Honey.

Defiant Honor and Bellavais, an improving pair from two-time Lake George-winning trainer Jimmy Toner, who won the 1996 edition with Memories of Silver, and again in 2011 with her daughter, Winter Memories, are likely for the race, as are Chubby Star, Dream Dancing, Happy Mesa, Party Boat, Proctor's Ledge, and Victory to Victory.

The potential field for the six-furlong Schuylerville is comprised of a very promising cast of 2-year-old fillies, with Barbara Minshall likely to send out My Dear winner Dream It Is, making her first start away from the Tapeta track at Woodbine, and trainer Christophe Clement expected to be represented by Astoria runner-up Best Performance.

Others probable for the race include Laudation, Limited View, Pacific Gale, Stainless, and Take Charge Paula. Mel's Gone Wild is possible.

The first Saturday of the meet will feature a pair of stakes races, the Grade 3, $150,000 Sanford and the Grade 1, $500,000 Diana.

Contested at six furlongs on the main track, the Sanford is expected to attract a talented group of 2-year-olds, led by Tremont runner-up Direct Dial for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Also likely for the Sanford are Admiral Jimmy, third in the Tremont, expected to make his second straight stakes start for the Todd Pletcher barn, Bal Harbour, Free Drop Billy, Nauti Buoy, and Psychoanalyze. Dak Attack and Serengeti are possible.

Chad Brown is expected to send a pair of serious contenders to lead a competitive edition of the Diana, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up, with four-time Grade 1 heroine Lady Eli, who hasn't finished worse than second in 11 career starts, and Grade 1 Just A Game winner Antonoe.

Also expected for the Diana are Kiaran McLaughlin-trained Dickinson, who won three straight graded stakes this year, capped by a head victory in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland;Harmonize for Hall of Famer Bill Mott; and Grade 2 New York runner-up Quidura from the Graham Motion barn. Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey is possible to send My Impression, On Leave, and/or War Flag.

Sunday's featured race, the Grade 1, $300,000 Coaching Club American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, has attracted the attention of Kentucky Oaks winner Abel Tasman. From the barn of Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, the sophomore daughter of Quality Road has recorded back-to-back Grade 1 wins this spring, including a one-length victory in the Acorn on Belmont Stakes Day.

The CCA Oaks is expected to feature a rematch between Abel Tasman and the Mark Casee-trained Salty, fifth in the Kentucky Oaks and second by a length in the Acorn. Also probable for the race is Elate, a 5 ½-length winner in the June 15 Light Hearted Stakes at Delaware Park.Berned and Jamyson 'n Ginger are possible.

Opening week concludes with the $200,000 Caress for fillies and mares 4 and up at 5 ½ furlongs on the inner turf. Very busy but a couple that could be some value for 7/21:

R3: #4 (8-1 ML) - #6 will take $ and is coming off a monster effort winning by 9 3/4 lengths and posting a 93 Beyer and trainer Robertino Diodoro keeps them sharp when they're in shape and is a possible winner. #3 will also take money but trainer Avila is only 3 for last 37, at a short price I'll pass. #4 is a first time gelding off the claim and switches turf to dirt and adds Jose Ortiz, a lot going on and at 8-1 ml looks very interesting.

R9: #7 (6-1 ML) - coming off a good 2nd beaten less than 1 length vs wire to wire winner...in that race at Penn National, Party Boat had a tough trip in the stretch.

If anyone has any meet questions or want to go over any Fri and Sat race, I'll be around for a bit...if not I'll post some Sat thoughts on Sat AM track side

Bunch of my buddies will be up there tomorrow.. considered going but I'm gonna pass. I'll regret it

Any thoughts on Race 4 tomorrow? Does the #2 intrigue you at all at 12-1?
Hmmm...you are on to something here...appears to be wide open race and #3 will likely be fav but is beatable...looks like a good amount of early speeds with #1,6,7....#2 in last was off layoff and broke from rail in slop and two back is throw out race because of distance, contender at a price for sure...#4 (12-1 ml) is interesting 2nd off layoff, should get good pace setup even though better at 6.5F and 7F and has a win over track...#5 is 1st dirt but has dirt breeding, dam was dirt and half to First Defense who won Forego (dirt) on this track....#8 drops in class and only non stakes effort makes him major player...#9 another class dropper, 2nd time lasix and now blinkers removed, turf to dirt and another who's debut race makes contender...tough race, should present value

Late pick 4 for Friday looks very tough.
Working backwards... in R10 #3 is obvious and also will use #9 dropping down...against #8 and #10
R9:#1 is probably one to beat and must use...also like #4 and #7
R8: I probably should spread more, tough wide open race but #3 and #9 are the two I like best
R7: another wide open race but I'll be against likely fav #10...#6 hasn't won in a while but awful trip in last...maybe use #1 defensively but certainly not in love with...#4 is the value and is a must use at 15-1 ml

My ABCs

Race 7: A-2,10 B-3,6,9 C-4,5,7
Race 8: A-1,9 B-2,3,8 C-4
Race 9: A-1,7 B-9,11 C-3,8
Race 10: A-3,10 B-2,8 C-9

R10: Agree with leans but can't leave Chad (#8) out of the mix on any opening day turf race. #10 I like the sharp works, feel Shug has this one tight for opening day.

R9: Agree on 1,7 may narrow here on final tickets

R8: Real crapshoot, think 1 may be speed of the speed. Pletcher naturally has a big shot.

R7: Looks very tough but these types always seem to yield one of the favorites.

Being opening day probably should just trust in Pletcher and Brown in the stakes and go ALL/Todd/Chad/Droppers & #3.

Race 9: A-1,7 B-9,11 C-3,8
Race 10: A-3,10 B-2,8 C-9

Looking good....all I have to do is make the C's my A's, toss all my instincts and make the horses I don't like at all B's and I'm all set.

Seriously, I can understand the first three winners. The #4 in Race 7 was well touted and had dirtied up PPs from a bunch of dirt races, but still had the top last class rating. #4 in the 8th had the top solid speed number and the top class rating, only it was on poly. But hidden in the recent works was blistering sub 47 work on Woodbine training track, which I learned yesterday is not poly but dirt. So she was sneaky. And #8 in the 8th fit and was first time Lasix. It's those little angles that often make the difference at the Spa.

Would've had to go 6 or 7 deep in the last though.

Late pick 4 ABCs

Rc 8 A - 1,2 B - none C - 5,7,10
Rc 9 A - 2,5,7 B - 1,6 C-3,4
Rc 10 A - 3,6 B - 2 C-4
Rc 11 A-3.8 B-9,11,12 C-1,2,7

Rc 10 A - 3,6 B - 2 C-4
Rc 11 A-3.8 B-9,11,12 C-1,2,7

Getting better, but damn these finales are a crapshoot. Probably should've tossed #4's last effort going 1 turn at big Belmont, he's clearly a two turn horse, but the note that the horse bled scared me off, along with him being winless since 2015.

Arrogate holy crap, what a big fat egg that was. Baffert was almost speechless after. Bridge jumpers!

Will be joining you guys, mostly following along today.

Haven't been on the site in forever, but still lurk a good bit.

Some good friends of mine own the 11 in the 1st.

AE #11 Kitty Kat Kate gets in the Spa opener today and is the likely fave. Wesley Ward 2-34 with 2YO maidens sprint to route on turf, $0.38 ROI

I like Elate today, you like?
I do, think she's live there, maybe some of that Baffert magic is wearing off after that showing from Arrogate yesterday. I also like Parting Glass horse today in the 8th, Alabama Bound, think she might be be lone speed on the speed favoring inner turf
