Here we are, another Phoenix Waste Management Open. This is a fun tournament to get us right to kick-off on Sunday and obviously the center of attention is the 16th hole. I love it and my goal is to be there within the next two years.

Tiem to really get the golf forum here at CTG flowing again. We have too many excellent cappers to not have the usual involvement. Lets start this week.

Obviously check @PaintCrew thread as he has had a helluva start to the season with a few outrights (Hoge and Smith).

Played Burns along with Paint (30-1 for myself).

Great field here...

Rahm
Cantlay
JT
Hovland
X
Deki
Spieth
Sheffler
Berger
Finau
Brooks
Bubba
Louie

and many more...

Last 7 winners...

Koepka
Simpson

I've been yo-yo'ing so far this season. Had a perfect week at Dubai, then got skunked last week at Pebble. Going to tread a little lighter here (maybe) this week. None of the matchups between the big guns interest me much. Here's what I have so far:

Webb (-110) over Fitzpatrick
Bubba (-105) over Louis
Putnam (EV) over Wise

Will look at some top 5/10/20 stuff when my book releases it

I like betting against Charlie Hoffman this week. He’s WD the last 3 tournaments. Bad back. Waste management sponsors him so he’s probably gonna give it a go. It’s golf but….

Saw him in the field and completely forgot he's the face of WM, no clue how much he gives it a go because I'm sure they (and he) would love to be around for the weekend but you can't just sleep off the bad back. Easy play against.

Look up his pants from previous WM tourneys

Damn Charley is tied for the lead, certainly didn't see that coming

Wonder if the WD after rd 1 last week was due to knowing he'd need to play this weekend

Brooks looked really good today tee to green. He will be in this if he can keep it up. Also landed on Xander at 22 but he looked like shit despite getting to -4. Rahm birdied the first. Just gotta hope he doesn’t go nuclear. Conditions calmer than they were early this morning. Also, Hoffman -5? Wtf

Didn't know who Hayden Buckley was and why he was in the group with Rahm and Fowler, guess he alternated in when Webb w/d

Only his 12th ever PGA event, gotta be a thrill doing this tournament with Rahm and Rickie, won't be surprised if he plays really well the first couple days

Just got to coverage as they were explaining why he was in a feature group.... very cool for him...

Titling - went to run it back with Gooch and Hudson this morning and DK wasn’t offering them - while everyone else had them. Both look decent to start too - especially Gooch. Liked Fitz this morning as well.

Did end up laying some juice today on Burns -125 over Power.

Book w/the Stafford Lions jersey is the universe talking

Only way to combat the year of the tiger is to show up as a Lion!

3rd round only:

Kisner -120 bs Ryder: Kisner is rolling it really well this week. I’m just not a big believer in Ryder and think he reverts back to his norm on Saturday…

R3:

Higgs -110 v Hickock 2*

X -110 v Cantlay 3*

BLAKE Koepka -137 v Talor Gooch 4*

All the talk was about how Koepka and X left shots out there yesterday which is true, but I prefer the other angle that tells me they still went low while having less than their best days. Harry seems to just be in his element here. Pretty cool to see some of the personalities on display for a change.

Good Tourney so far. Expect cream to rise on moving day. Looking for a Speith play as me thinks he puts together a solid round

Deki -210 over K Bradley
Oosthuizen -186 over Stallings
Cantlay-186 over Gooch

2 units each and parlay +251, 2 units (didn’t submit rams ML and Kupp score)

Adding- Spieth +100 over Merritt, Higgo. 2.5 units. Parlay w/ Rams ML -190, +205. 2.5 units

Deki top Asian -150, Rams ML -190, +154. 3.15 units

Like this approach. Did all 3 with Rams ML. GL!

Is a -1 cut vs a EVEN cut a win for the -1? I’m trying all the books and PointsBet is pretty awful.

Diseased pick with Kisner. I guess golf is just a hobby for him… that Ryder hole in one was a nice touch. That’s when you know you’re running good. I hope your guys wagers are going better than mine.

Just woke up in time to catch the Ryder replay

Actually walked up to 16 once and Mike Sposa hit a HN1 just as we got there in 2002, still not sure if he's done anything else relevant in the sport but at least have seen one. No clue how the wagers are going yet but tough not to pull for the young guy on sponsor exemption

What a bad beat for Cantlay vs. Gooch. Gooch birds last 3 and drains a 40 footer while Pat misses a 10 footer to lose the head to head by a stroke.

Brutal beat Inspekdah I feel your pain…

Have any of you guys ever had a hole in one?
Nope, closest for me was holing out from 165ish on a par 4

Buddy had 2 in high school and got a personalized plate in MO "2XNONE" and all chicks saw was two timing one lol....license plate fail

Curious about the responses around here, think my closest was about 5 inches and the divot behind the hole, where the ball came to rest, it legitimately had to roll over the hole with backspin

I’ve got three holes in one. Thankfully saw two of them go in… it’s more exciting seeing it go in the am walking up to it and finding it in the hole. My favorite shot though is a good story…

Playing a local public course (Los Serranos South Course #17 for anyone in SoCal). It’s a 165 yard par 3 from an elevated tee box of about 50 feet or so. Playing with three really good friends, buddy #1 sticks it to four feet just right of the pin. Buddy #2 steps up and hits his shot and it looks like it’s about six inches short of the hole. Jokingly I told him he needs to mark his ball it’s in my way. I then said, if I knock #2 buddy’s ball in the hole I’m counting it as a hole in one. I get up and hit my shot… we all watch it and are getting a little excited because it was on line, hits the green and hits buddy #2’s ball! We then watch a ball go in the hole… funny thing was we had no idea which ball went in! Long story short, it was buddy #2’s ball. Technically not a hole in one but by far my favorite golf shot.

If I’ve told this story before here, I apologize. And no, I don’t count this shot as one of my hole in ones..

Love stories like that. I always figured if I do get one it will be some bullshit worm burner and not be a story to tell

Couple years ago did a golf trip to Flagstaff and Andrew McGee was in the clubhouse after the round. Most will know him for the hN1 on the 17th in Scottsdale and of course our crew is all about hearing the story. Can tell he loves rehashing it down to the putter Byrum was using that it deflected off. McGee said that was the best putt he's ever seen and changed out his putter

Who is in the 1st group with Blake and the rook?

I tailed that play for shits.

All good but I had no idea Ryder had the ace till 5 mins ago. I just knew "someone" did.

Sums it up.

You're too good at this, your time is coming.

Great story!

Speith was a bad play, just too inconsistent anymore. Cost me 5 units. Oosthuizen rallied back only for me to see Gooch birdie last 3 holes, Cantlay bogies the last for a loss, loss of +700 parlay. Should’ve been up 2 units yesterday, instead dropped 7. Still have Deki top Asian and Rams ML open for +5.

Solid leaderboard for final round and hard not to root for any of them. I do think 1-2 players in the 8-10 range will go low, giving the leaders a run.

Going with Hoge +210 over Deki, Homa. 2 units

Hoge +210, Rams -2.5, Rams 1st half ML, Kupp and Chase to score +2690 for 1 unit.

GL today Gents-
