NFL Offseason Discussion

Here's the Eagles sales pitch:

"Jets, here."

"Do we have a deal for you."

"Let me guess, Bradford."

"You read our minds."

"Didn't you just bend over backwards and give up like 6 early draft picks over three years just to replace him? And doesn't he make a ton of money?"

"Yes."

Line goes dead.

Curtain.

Eagles: "Just hear us out on this ..."

Every other team: [line goes dead]

Cleveland: "Go on ..."

New coach, new direction. Let's draft a QB to build around

sam clearly is not in the long term plans

Even if the team is only worried about one year of Bradford because they can cut him w/o penalty next year...he still has to fit under the cap this season, and that's a huge salary that most teams don't have anywhere near the room for. He's going to end up starting for Philly, which is their plan anyway. He'll get over the feelings he's having now about the trade they made.

I can understand Sam not wanting to stay in Philly because he's not in the long term plans, but what in the hell do fans care? This year is essentially a throw away year whether it's Sam or the QB they drafted under center. No need to throw the draft pick into the fire when you have a capable NFL QB who can play until he's ready...and maybe that's in week 4, or week 6, or week 10...whatever.

This is a really good point. Besides, we all know Bradford won't make it 16 games anyway. From the team's standpoint you might as well let him get blown up for as many games as it takes to break him then worry about what's next.

Right. And it's pretty much what the Eagles plan on doing, from all accounts. The talk of trade has only come up because a. fans are irrational and love to talk about potential trades, b. the media always goes for the low hanging fruit and assumed a trade was going to follow so wanted to "break" that story (very creative), and now c. word is that Sam isn't happy and wants a trade.

None me of that really changes anything the Eagles want to do or are going to do. Unless, of course Bradford is going to be a huge distraction and they want to grant his wish (if it's really him saying that and not just unnamed sources, or his agent)...but they still have to find a trade partner who can afford to pay him what he's owed this year and fit it under their cap...good luck with that.

Still think Eagles ACCEPT if Den calls offering a 2 for Bradford. Not sure they get any offers higher than a 3 though (if at all).

I don't think Jets are in the running because I think signing Fitz is a better move for them.

The elephant in the room here is the GREED of Philly's organization. They know they need to appease the fan base now and continue generating revenue for Lurie. They can't simply "throw away" this year. I think the prefer Bradford to play out this year because they know he'll at least challenge for a .500 record, and in the NFC LEAST, that could be enough to compete for the division.

Denver - please, please, PLEASE DO NOT take Bradford. We don't need another Philly failure.

You guys are real screwed right now if you're going with Sanchez (aka SLICK). The guy is not just a game manager. He is a turnover machine, who hurts the team.

Did you guys actually watch football last season? Bradford played really really well after like week 5, and he had been out a year so it took him time to get back up to speed.

Put Bradford on the Jets and they make the playoffs
Put him on the Broncos and they are stronger than last year
Put him on SF and they are still god awful but damn id love to see Chip do it.

I'm not saying a team is going to give up more than a 3rd for him, but he was not at all bad last year. Guy has a nice arm. Never had a steady offense and never had any weapons. Give him DT and Sanders and he will be in teh top 8 AFC qbs and Denver goes back to the Bowl.

I do not like Sam but I agree.. these people chirping about how bad he is lol. He is head n shoulders better than Fitzpatrick, Hoyer just to name a few.
Denver is still loaded on defense, why not reach out to Philly for Bradford, I would take a 7th rounder. Just so Philly can start fresh.

now back to the super bowl dwoww? lol not sure about that

gun to head I take Fitz over Bradfraud

but agree with coach a bit.....he isnt dog meat

Will be interesting to see if he's as good on Wash as he was last year with that front 7 of Caro

this is a complete move to answer for Odell and Dez

Wash defense was pretty good last year if i recall.....they paid a shit ton, but the guy was lights out last year

now, can he maintain?

CAR seems to think they have a system, and can plug and play.....they save some dough, so the move may work out for them long term too

I mean look at Jairus Byrd and the Saints.,....made him the highest paid safety at the time, and it hasn't really panned out

I don't know how Norman will be in Washington. I do know that other than Revis very few big name free agents at his position have had success with theri new team after leaving the one that turned them into a star. I also know there are a lot of guys who are not that good at football who looked great in Carolina's defense. Combine those things and I would be worried if im a Wash fan, but who knows, maybe the guy is just a stud and will kill it for them.

looks like Norman wanted to stay in CAR......just didn't happen

Reports say Bradford unhappy and will request a trade. Gotta think Eagles saw this coming. I don't buy their BS that "Sam is our starter." I still think he gets traded to Denver before the draft or on draft day.

I think Eagles would jump at any trade involving a Rd 2 pick for this year's draft. (They currently do not have a rd 2 pick).

Becoming more clear that Bradford wants out, as expected. I don't mind him taking this stance. I'm sure the Eagles spewed him BS since they weren't sure whether they would be able to get Wentz at that time. Otherwise, Bradford would not have signed and would have been free to sign with a team that actually wanted him.

But if he's refusing to report/participate in team activities, then Eagles leverage is even lower now in terms of a trade. They already ate 11mil on him. They aren't getting that back. I'm not sure how salary structure/bonus works in the event of a trade. His actual contract is still team friendly. If Denver wants him, it appears they can have him. The draft compensation should be reasonable now. I think a trade goes down before or during the draft.

bro, they signed him to essentially a 1 year deal. it was a 2 yr deal that the team could easily have gotten out of. even if they didnt trade up for wentz, it was abundantly clear that they were going to draft a guy in rd 2 or 3 and try to develop him, and sammy was a place holder. teams who think you are a franchise qb dont sign you to 2 year deals like that. thats on sammy and his agent if they thought "omg the eagles think im theri guy the next 10 years, so ill sign this front loaded 2yr deal"

he was free to sign wherever he wanted. if teams were gung ho about him, he would have gotten a better offer. he signed a contract and is now acting like a giant baby. i hope the eagles keep him and sit him the entire year so he can add another missed season to the resume

take well ahve to disagree there. i have zero reason to care about denver, and sam is being a huge bitch for this, but he can play a little. NYJ or Denver would be great spots for him. Trust me take, if its sammy or Sanchize you want sammy. I'd even say if its Sammy or Kaep you'd want Sammy.

the deal was only team friendly in the sense that they could cut him after yr 1 for very little. he got a ton upfront and that is why it is disgusting that he is acting like this.be a man, play as well as u can, and make a team want to pay you a ton of money

D-Wow: I normally take the stance you have above on most players, but here I want Sam OUT. I don't think this management "team" handled this whole QB situation properly. I think the dynamic btw Howie/Lurie is troublesome now. Appears Lurie getting more involved ... not sure that's good.

Fragile Sammy is such a bitch.. First I am glad he wants out but the clown signed a 2 yr deal, that does not say future QB to me... Sam had to have an idea of that.

exactly. before they traded for the 2 pick, it was widely assumed they were going to take a guy like Prescott in rd 3 and try to groom him. How is this any different? Its a higher pick and higher profile player, but either way, they were going to take a QB and the plan was going to be for him to sit a year and compete to play the next year. literally nothing has changed. sammys agent is just being opportunistic.

Bradford has $11M signing bonus, half already paid, Eagles responsible even if traded. $7M salary this season. $4M fully gteed next season.( tweet per Andrew Brandt)

Sam Bradford sucks. This is hardly debatable. No team with designs on an NFL championship will ever start him again in the season opener. He won't even be traded for a 7th-rounder. Teams like 7th-rounders. The draft isn't a million rounds long anymore. Name me an NFL fit for Sam Bradford as a highly paid starting QB.

The funniest part of the Bradford debate is that duds, and dwow, and gorgy don't want him, but they want you to want him.

Relax. You don't work for the Eagles. We don't hold Bradford against you, we just don't want your giant box of porn.

I sure could use wiseplayer in here. He's had a couple thoughts on Bradford.

Listen pal,
u should not open your mouth with the qbs the Browns have put out there for the last 20 yrs..

I've never suggested someone else trade for them, lol. They just kind of go wherever and continue to suck.

Almost no "bad" QB bounces teams and wins it all. I think you have to go back to Dilfer, who wasn't much of a QB, or Jim Plunkett, who was pretty good.

Brad Johnson, Doug Williams too. We're reaching here though. No sustained guys.

This will help.

20 QBs have started at least 60 gms since Bradford entered the league. Sammy's ranks:

Comp%: 19
Rating: 20
Y/A: 20
TD%: 20
Wins: 20
TD: 20
Lol and somehow this fucker has collected close to 100mill. Talk about shitty fball minds out there.. Hire me guys, I am available
