I fully understand it guys. Bitching about the NBA players being pussies is ridiculous when that's how our society is now. It's like that in a lot of sectors of society. Instead of complaining, deal with it. The NBA playoffs are all 80% of fans care about so that's why they do this. Protect the health of players so the playoffs are the best they can be.

I understand the pussification of American sports. It is what it is.

It is just ridiculous that these teams are resting players. The fans pay their salaries. It is ridiculous and they need to find some way to rectify it to be honest.

Fans who go to games to watch certain players aren't true fans so I don't give a fuck.

You make one point here, that 4 outta 5 fans only care about the playoffs.

You don't need to 'protect' the health of the players. With the evolution of medicine and all shouldn't players nowadays be at their healthiest? The greatest players in the 'Golden Age' didn't sit out. If they missed a game it was due to a legit injury. And, as said before, they get to BE AT THEIR BEST in the playoffs because the series get stretched out so long. The playoffs are an absolute breeze nowadays.

I dont understand why you are comparing different eras. There are so many differences now it's not fair to compare. The competition throughout the league is so top heavy now. Did teams intentionally tank back in the golden days of the NBA? Individual games mean less now than they did then imo.

That is such a HUGE basis of the NBA though that you love today, the players that people want to watch. I can go to an exhibition game with a free ticket to watch the garbage we'll see tonight. It will not be pretty basketball whatsoever. It should be a HUGE game with playoff implications instead it is an absolute joke.

That base was built before you were born. That is how Stern marketed the league we have today...players...yes certain teams as well but that brings us back to present day and the Warriors...they have some stars but a team that is marketed as well..

You sure as hell won't be seeing a commercial advertising Javale and McCaw for tonights game.

It is top-heavy and has been for a long-time due to expansion back 25-30 years ago. That started the dilution process. It was top heavy back then too. There were 3-4 teams a year that could expect to win the championship...lo and behold...just like this year...

Is that your reason for individual games meaning less now? Because that is absolutely wrong.
 
Literally my first search...

86-87 Lakers won their conference(not division) by 10 games.

Magic Johnson played 80 games and started 80 games. They lost their last two games even, but he played in those.
 
The NBA markets players, not the actual competition and they've been successful doing it. This is the result of that strategy, a shit regular season product for fans who will inevitably feel ripped off.

I assume it's like this in all NBA cities but the Ritz in Phx has one floor with much larger than normal beds (or at least enough rooms to accommodate the teams). Tough, tough life.

Case in-point of what we're talking about in this thread about 'softness'.

It starts at the top with the coaches and shit coddling the fuck outta these kids and treating them like labradoodles.

If a kid was told to send the Ball kid into the wall, his career would be almost over.

The Ball bros are a cash cow for individuals and the league down the track.

Cherry picking don't work in the NBA anyway.

It actually starts way before they even enter in the nba imo.... kids come into the league thinking they are hot shit... i am a big proponent of forcing student athletes to stay 3 years

Thankfully you aren't in charge or Kawhi would have never ended up w/ the Spurs.

While his dad may run his mouth endlessly and his li brother is a showboat Lonzo actually seems like he has his head on straight and will be able to handle being a pro next season.

And you have no idea what things would be like if stayed in college. Nor do you know how he'd be if didn't come to SA. Coaches and management are everything. Unfortunately there aren't enough good ones in the NBA. Plenty of good college coaches that do a great job with the kids on and off the court. Of course there are exceptions

Rodney Mott is a referee in the National Basketball Association, where he has worked since 1998.
On January 12, 2007, Mott was suspended for three games after making obscene gestures and using obscenities toward fans during a game. He also blatantly missed a call in the March 11 2017 game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards that costed Portland the game. His is widely known to be one of the worst human beings on earth. His nickname is "Human Scum Mott".[SUP][1][/SUP]
Mott officiated the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.

Since the 2002-03 season, referees have reviewed all made shots that clear the net with no time remaining on the clock (0:00). This is an automatic trigger and referees are required to conduct the review regardless of score.
During the review, referees use video to confirm, if they can, whether the game clock expired before the ball left the shooter's hand.
If referees confirm the shot was made in time (or have no conclusive video to overturn their on-court ruling), referees also look to confirm:

  • Whether the shot was a two- or three-point attempt, or
  • Whether the shooter committed a boundary line violation or the ball touched an out-of-bounds area, such as the stanchion, prior to entering the basket. If it did, the goal would be disallowed.
 
Might as well give coaches one challenge a game or something like that. They can throw a red headband on the floor to indicate they want a challenge.
 
End of the day, review everything or don't have reviews at all.

The murky waters of only having certain things to review is too David Stern-ish.

League supposed to be evolving.

They review way too much already. I don't mind them looking at stuff during timeouts for ends of quarters etc but some of it is silly. The looking at 'flagrant' (I use that term loosely) fouls is ridiculous and a waste of time. Just make the call and live with it.

Like I said though, one free challenge in 4th quarter on whatever you want. That is fair enough I think.
