still has trouble against the run.
I dont really wanna lose him but if we can get the some pick I say do it. He is in his contract year.

I heard rumors of 3rd rd pick
but I read eagles have 4 5th rd picks so I dont know :shake:

For what it's worth, I like the draft, probably only because of McCoy.
I personally would have taken Pettigrew instead of Maclin, but them not taking him tells me they didn't think the TE talent in this draft is there. Frankly, since I don't think Jared Cook was drafted on the first day, I'm not sure anybody thinks the TE talent is there this year.
Probably because that huge stud from OU didn't come out, and because Flordia will probably put another in there next year, they figure they can wait with Celek and all these WRs.
I assume this means Desean becomes more of a SU WR and we let Maclin take the punishment on kicks. Which, I suppose is fine.

I really like the McCoy pick
He can catch the ball out of the back field and make people miss. They needed a guy to spell Westbrook and eventually replace him and I think McCoy was the second best fit for them (besides Moreno) as far as that goes in the draft.
As for Maclin, I want to like the pick. The kids got a load of talent and he could be great but I just dont really get it because I see alot of DeSean Jackson in him. Its like when the Sixers took Thad Young when they had Igoudala already. I love Thad and hes a great player...he might even be better than Iggy someday soon, but they are essentially the same guy. I dont hate the pick, I dont love the pck, Im just kinda confused by it. Ray Didenger like it though so thats good.

They coulda clearly gotten Boldin for the 21st pick (probably less) but they didnt want to pay him. They obviously recognize the need since they took Maclin, but they just love the cheap route...I mean I hope Maclin has a long and successful career as an Eagle, but its tough to say that over the next 2 to 3 years that Maclin will have a bigger impact on the Eagles offense than Boldin would have...

He said before the Texans got on the clock, the Eagles called and said they were dead set on taking him and doing everything they could to get him. They knew the Texans wanted him, and were working on a deal to swap picks - until I guess the Texans either backed out/or demanded too much in return at the last minute. But apparently the Eagles did everything in their power to get him, that's who they were dead set on.
Which makes me wonder if they had plans of maybe going after Boldin hard, but once Cush fell through they went after Maclin? Who knows, I'm not exactly sure what the Eagles draft situation was like today

Now, whether that was wise or not, we'll see.
But more importantly, thank f**king God the Birds didn't get Cushing.
Look, I know probably less than nothing, but everything about that guy screams steroid body to me. Now, maybe he uses them fine, doesn't get caught, and his body holds up. But I don't think that's going to happen.
I think that guy's body starts to betray him sooner than later.

I don't wish injury on anybody, so I hope I'm wrong. But no matter what happens with Maclin, no matter what happens with Cushing, I'm glad any deal there fell through.

The deal Sunday, in which the Patriots further stockpiled draft choices with the 137th and 141st picks overall, came in the wake of Brown's request last week for a trade. Brown is unhappy with his current contract, but Eagles president Joe Banner had previously indicated the veteran will not be dealt.
The Eagles recently traded one-time starting cornerback Lito Sheppard to the New York Jets.
Hobbs, 25, could replace Brown, if the latter is traded, or become Philly's nickel cornerback. The team, however, is believed to be pleased with the play of current nickel corner Joselio Hanson, who last year signed a contract extension.
There had been no indication prior to the draft that Hobbs could be available in a trade. Despite the many rumors surrounding other players, Hobbs is the first veteran to be traded in this draft.
With Hobbs entering the final year of his rookie contract, with a 2009 base salary of $2.545 million, according to NFL Players Association records, Philadelphia may seek to negotiate an extension with him.
A four-year veteran, Hobbs started all 16 games in each of the past two seasons. In 2008, he had 47 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 passes defensed. The former Iowa State standout has played in 63 games, with 49 starts, and has 198 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine interceptions and 36 passes defensed.
The trade of Hobbs, who also returned kickoffs for New England, further indicates that Patriots coach Bill Belichick was not happy with the play of his cornerbacks last season. The Patriots are rebuilding the cornerback spot, and chose Darius Butler of Connecticut in the second round Saturday.

Really like what the Eagles did today. And overall I think they improved their team just as much as anyone in the whole league. Plus with the drafting of Ingram who has the talent to step in right away and Harris they got some low risk high reward type players. Maybe Reid does know what he is doing lol

ugh, unfortunately for us giant fans... I agree. The thought of Maclin and Jackson side by side makes me a bit nervous. We are going to have to make sure to keep McNabbs' shadow (Osi) by his side.

Huge week for you guys and a solid month of April as a iggles fan. I think Maclin shines in your offensive system. You guys now have major fucking weapons on offense, maybe there a little young, and they will probably make some mistakes, but this should extend Mcnabb's career a few more years.

I was out golfing and praying and hoping Maclin would fall to Minnesota at 22.
I personally think the NFC is now the eagles to lose, with that defensive system, and adding a some more playmakers on offense that they are now a complete team.

eagles had a good draft, definitely---but i think people are going a little nuts. these guys could be very explosive players, but two of the top 3 have battled some serious injuries, and i for one (i know i'm in the minority) think maclin is pretty overrated. mccoy could be amazing, but he also has huge fumbling issues. macho harris is a steal for where they took him imo, but towards the top of the draft they took some risks and espn and everyone else saying that they stole the draft and had by far the best draft seems a little nuts to me. a lot of questions still have to be answered about these guys. and serious questions. i just have a hard time seeing how they are a clearcut top 3 teams in this draft.

But then after the days are over, you look at the draft and it call comes together. When are you gonna realize Andy Reid has a plan and can execute it as well as anyone.

And hes lost 4 of the last 8 NFC Championship Games...3 of them as a favorite...so Fatass is still on notice until he can stop the team from choking when it counts and actually win something - why would we be satisfied with continually losing conference championship games because of questionable play calling and inabilities to make in game adjustments?

I'm not going to sit here and say f**k the team. But everything I see from Sheldon at this point is done with a good deal of respect, and he comes off like someone who tried to do this thing the way it's normally done, but they basically told him to go screw.
Right now, I'm on mostly on his side.
Just another example of how the team loses the press battle on a daily basis.

Dude, even though fatass has lost NFC Championships, the fact that they were there and at least had a chance is a lot better then a lot of teams can say. I can honestly say that even though Cowher failed many a time, no1 really called for his head like you guys call for fatass's head. Cowher failed just as many times. Thats just an example, the more obvious ones are teams that can barely make the playoffs or are a cellar team year in and year out who would love to have a guy that gets you as far as you get.

The Steelers will always be the first story on the news here before any rapes or murders. Am I the only one that thinks Sheldon Brown has only his agent to blame for this? Phil Sheridan wrote some shitty article today how the birds should cut him lose. Just make him play and promise to front load his contract if he's on his best behavior or something. I know this will never happen but he'll be traded next year if he doesn't shut up. I probably do side with Sheldon here but he is 30.
Sal Pal was also on ESPN 950 giving our draft a B+ but absolutely ripping it apart. He brings up the two things that I'm concerned about is the lack of a blocking tight end and how we need another running back because when Westbrook gets hurt we only have McCoy. Hopefully the new Mendenhall kid could become some sort of big back for us.

I don't think Sheldon's agent has done the best job here. But from what's been in the press--which is all we have to go on--it seems like the Eagles have been just blowing both Sheldon and his agent off.
Sheldon doesn't come off as stupid in this thing, or as some guy who's just saying, 'yeah, man, I need a bigger house so gimme some more money.' He's making a valid argument and it seems like the Birds won't even engage in the conversation.
I agree with you, Smoke, if Weaver can block I'm not extremely concerned about not having a blocking TE. Mostly because I feel like blocking TEs are obtainable. It's guys who can catch the ball that are tough to find.

Yeah, I think Hobbs made a great comment when he was traded. That they're all just dollar signs to these organizations.
I don't agree with Mike Florio at PFT a lot, but he makes a good point about the Birds. There's no law against following the letter of the law and not apologizing for it, but a lot of times that makes you a complete *sshole and though there's no law against that, it can hurt your business worse than if you were breaking the law.

The Eagles traded two picks in this year's draft for Ellis Hobbs presumably as insurance in case Sheldon Brown attempts to hold out. The funny thing is, with one year remaining on his own contract, Hobbs has been talking like a player who has money on his own brain as well.
“Everyone is expendable,” Hobbs said. “At the end of the day we’re all dollar signs. Moves need to be made, things need to be done and at the end of the day that’s when you need to be professional about it and know that it’s a business and gone on. Sometimes you don’t fit into their program any more and like I said, unfortunately it was my time, but at the same time fortunately I can go to another team that wants me. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
“I was definitely surprised,” Hobbs said. “I mean like I said I knew something was going to happen, I just didn’t know when. You never know when and how, it’s kind of like somebody that’s about to die. You know they’re going to die eventually but when it hits you it’s kind of like a different impact.”
Hobbs is making a healthy $2.5 mil in the final year of his deal, but he's made it perfectly clear from day one he is unhappy with that amount.
"It's definitely frustrating when you see guys making certain amounts of money that you think you should get just as well and you deserve," Hobbs said. "It is what it is, and I'm getting paid more than a lot of people in this world, so that will come."
One note of interest: in the likely event of an uncapped season in 2010, new rules will make Hobbs a restricted free agent, which means the Eagles are not in a position where they must offer a long term contract if they want to keep him beyond '09.
