Is there a chance he'd take us back?

id actually do that in a second...but i havent really been paying attention to him the last few years....hows he look now a days?

little trouble staying healthy and he wants a raise

but when he is on his game still the same dude

cant get 2 sacks in a matter of 10 plays like nothing.

still has trouble against the run.

I dont really wanna lose him but if we can get the some pick I say do it. He is in his contract year.

raiders dont have a 5th or 6th rd pick

I heard rumors of 3rd rd pick

but I read eagles have 4 5th rd picks so I dont know :shake:

who the Iggles gonna get 1st rd ? I would take Beanie and do whatever it takes to get him.

I think Raiders gonna take DHB even if Crabtree is on the board

For what it's worth, I like the draft, probably only because of McCoy.

I personally would have taken Pettigrew instead of Maclin, but them not taking him tells me they didn't think the TE talent in this draft is there. Frankly, since I don't think Jared Cook was drafted on the first day, I'm not sure anybody thinks the TE talent is there this year.

Probably because that huge stud from OU didn't come out, and because Flordia will probably put another in there next year, they figure they can wait with Celek and all these WRs.

I assume this means Desean becomes more of a SU WR and we let Maclin take the punishment on kicks. Which, I suppose is fine.

Really it's McCoy that excites me. Sure, he's not big, so that problem doesn't get solved. But many people had him going in the first round so the value was there and if Westbrook has to sit out a game or two he might be able to step right in.

Yes, I'd still like Boldin. But I now don't really see him as an option.

Braylon, though, still has to be available. The Browns still want picks. Maybe Sheldon and some late round picks.

I really like the McCoy pick

He can catch the ball out of the back field and make people miss. They needed a guy to spell Westbrook and eventually replace him and I think McCoy was the second best fit for them (besides Moreno) as far as that goes in the draft.

As for Maclin, I want to like the pick. The kids got a load of talent and he could be great but I just dont really get it because I see alot of DeSean Jackson in him. Its like when the Sixers took Thad Young when they had Igoudala already. I love Thad and hes a great player...he might even be better than Iggy someday soon, but they are essentially the same guy. I dont hate the pick, I dont love the pck, Im just kinda confused by it. Ray Didenger like it though so thats good.

The thing Im probably most...i wont say pissed, but more annoyed about is it just proves the Eagles are cheap. They coulda clearly gotten Boldin for the 21st pick (probably less) but they didnt want to pay him. They obviously recognize the need since they took Maclin, but they just love the cheap route...I mean I hope Maclin has a long and successful career as an Eagle, but its tough to say that over the next 2 to 3 years that Maclin will have a bigger impact on the Eagles offense than Boldin would have...

As for whats ahead? Im guessing they get a TE, DE, and maybe Corner or safety? And I see no way whatsoever they go after Edwards, by the way. And Im guessing Maclin signals the end of the Reggie Brown era...(how many WRs do you carry? 5 right? Then its Jackson, Maclin, Curtis, Baskett and Avant right?)

I do like that they now have some serious 'swagger' (for the lack of a better word) on the offense now...

Maclin, Jackson and McCoy are all young, cocky and think theyre better than you

Thats a good thing i think...

Yeah, they won't go get Braylon, you're right. They could have today, and didn't.

What I don't like about the Maclin thing is his size. He's taller than Desean, but not much. And he's not a big guy. So if he's going to be a number one, he better be Hines Ward durable with the hands to match.

If you see what Andy said he admits that they weren't even going to draft Maclin, but he fell into their laps. We'll see if this means they know talent or not.

But you're right, it proves they know the need is there, but it begs the question of whether or not they truly understand the solution.

They do realize we don't play in a dome, right? Because that's what this team is built for right now.

Which is really odd because Andy spent so much time in GB, and after so many years in Philly you'd think he'd have to know by now that even if you win enough games early on to get home field, you're playing playoff games in the cold. How many playoff games do we need to play in Philly where we struggle to score 17 points to realize what's needed to win those games?

I do think you're right that Reggie Brown now goes away. Baskett stays and Avant has some bulk on him that Reggie doesn't. But they'll probably battle it out in camp.

As for what's next. I think unless Jared Cook falls to them, they go defense the rest of the way.

My boy that knows Cushing was over a little bit ago and ended up getting on the phone with him,

He said before the Texans got on the clock, the Eagles called and said they were dead set on taking him and doing everything they could to get him. They knew the Texans wanted him, and were working on a deal to swap picks - until I guess the Texans either backed out/or demanded too much in return at the last minute. But apparently the Eagles did everything in their power to get him, that's who they were dead set on.

Which makes me wonder if they had plans of maybe going after Boldin hard, but once Cush fell through they went after Maclin? Who knows, I'm not exactly sure what the Eagles draft situation was like today

Anyways I just thought a few of you would like to hear/read that, I guess Maclin wasn't option A

Thanks for the info, Slap.

Two things on that. First, Andy Reid said they didn't plan on drafting Maclin, but they were really surprised he dropped basically into their laps. So, surprisingly enough, they took the talent on the board.

Now, whether that was wise or not, we'll see.

But more importantly, thank f**king God the Birds didn't get Cushing.

Look, I know probably less than nothing, but everything about that guy screams steroid body to me. Now, maybe he uses them fine, doesn't get caught, and his body holds up. But I don't think that's going to happen.

I think that guy's body starts to betray him sooner than later.

There were a couple of people I wanted both the Browns and Eagles to stay away from in this draft and number one on my list was Brian Cushing.

I don't wish injury on anybody, so I hope I'm wrong. But no matter what happens with Maclin, no matter what happens with Cushing, I'm glad any deal there fell through.

I think this draft ends up being a lot about McCoy anyway. Him and Jason Peters. I think if Maclin pans out it's gravy.

Oh yeah, I love McCoy...Was kinda mad Eagles got him lol, thats a nassstyyyy offense now,

Gotta be favorites for the NFC with Vikings right?

But - what if your inclination that he's on steroids is wrong? He's going to be a beast...

Him n DeMeco and Mario

<!-- end mod-article-title --> <!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline -->In what might be a prelude to a trade of cornerback Sheldon Brown, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired cornerback Ellis Hobbs from the New England Patriots for two fifth-round draft choices.

Hobbs
The deal Sunday, in which the Patriots further stockpiled draft choices with the 137th and 141st picks overall, came in the wake of Brown's request last week for a trade. Brown is unhappy with his current contract, but Eagles president Joe Banner had previously indicated the veteran will not be dealt.
The Eagles recently traded one-time starting cornerback Lito Sheppard to the New York Jets.
Hobbs, 25, could replace Brown, if the latter is traded, or become Philly's nickel cornerback. The team, however, is believed to be pleased with the play of current nickel corner Joselio Hanson, who last year signed a contract extension.
There had been no indication prior to the draft that Hobbs could be available in a trade. Despite the many rumors surrounding other players, Hobbs is the first veteran to be traded in this draft.
With Hobbs entering the final year of his rookie contract, with a 2009 base salary of $2.545 million, according to NFL Players Association records, Philadelphia may seek to negotiate an extension with him.
A four-year veteran, Hobbs started all 16 games in each of the past two seasons. In 2008, he had 47 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 passes defensed. The former Iowa State standout has played in 63 games, with 49 starts, and has 198 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine interceptions and 36 passes defensed.
The trade of Hobbs, who also returned kickoffs for New England, further indicates that Patriots coach Bill Belichick was not happy with the play of his cornerbacks last season. The Patriots are rebuilding the cornerback spot, and chose Darius Butler of Connecticut in the second round Saturday.

Basically we walked out of this draft with:

Jason Peters
Jeremy Maclin
LeSean McCoy
Ellis Hobbs
Cornelius Ingram
Macho Harris
Some Tackle from Oregon
Seattle's 3rd Rounder next year
New Orleans' 5th rounder next year

Thats a pretty damn solid haul

Only area we didnt really go at that I thought they would is defensive end...

though i guess technically they have 3 more picks left

Mike Mitchell would rock them all

:whip:

Really like what the Eagles did today. And overall I think they improved their team just as much as anyone in the whole league. Plus with the drafting of Ingram who has the talent to step in right away and Harris they got some low risk high reward type players. Maybe Reid does know what he is doing lol

Thats a pretty damn solid haul

I agree.

Look at what we just did to improve the team.

Pro Bowl LT

Potentially a starting #1 WR - at the very least, a punt returner to keep Desean healthy

#2 RB and potential replacement for BWest in a couple of years

Corner depth and a kick returner in Hobbs to keep Demps healthy in the secondary

More corner depth--and a guy named Macho all with the same pick

Potential pass catching TE

OL depth, maybe

An extra 3rd round pick next year

I'm fine with that. I think they did well this year. And I never feel that way about the Birds' draft.

I gotta say the EAGLES have had a GREAT WEEK.

Congrats EAGLES fans.

Very very solid.

I would give them the highest grade in the draft.

Huge week for you guys and a solid month of April as a iggles fan. I think Maclin shines in your offensive system. You guys now have major fucking weapons on offense, maybe there a little young, and they will probably make some mistakes, but this should extend Mcnabb's career a few more years.

The McCoy pick was great, talk about helping keep Westbrook healthy for a full year

I was out golfing and praying and hoping Maclin would fall to Minnesota at 22.

I personally think the NFC is now the eagles to lose, with that defensive system, and adding a some more playmakers on offense that they are now a complete team.

eagles had a good draft, definitely---but i think people are going a little nuts. these guys could be very explosive players, but two of the top 3 have battled some serious injuries, and i for one (i know i'm in the minority) think maclin is pretty overrated. mccoy could be amazing, but he also has huge fumbling issues. macho harris is a steal for where they took him imo, but towards the top of the draft they took some risks and espn and everyone else saying that they stole the draft and had by far the best draft seems a little nuts to me. a lot of questions still have to be answered about these guys. and serious questions. i just have a hard time seeing how they are a clearcut top 3 teams in this draft.

I dunno where youre getting ESPN saying they had the 'best draft by far'...

Theyre not even one of the 5 choices for the who had the best draft poll question...

Ranking these drafts before anyones played a down is stupid anyway...give it a year or two

But I like the haul they got...

all the dooshes on first take were just saying that they had the best draft by far...skip clueless and co.

i just wonder how far they took it because they def should have done everything in their power to get boldin...i think he'd be a much better fit and obviously a more proven talent than maclin

yeah but maclins about 8 mil a year cheaper, 9 years younger and not injury prone...

and do yourself a favor and never watch first take again...unless you want a headache for some reason

You Iggles fans crack me up. Every year during the draft it's a complete meltdown. Fucking eagles this. Fucking andy Reid that. It was Smokedawg last year during the draft, JP this year.

But then after the days are over, you look at the draft and it call comes together. When are you gonna realize Andy Reid has a plan and can execute it as well as anyone.

But you guys also trying to run him outta town every year even though he's been to what, six of the last ten NFC Championship games?

I wish you would run him out because 31 other teams will be lined up to welcome the "Fatass"...

And not to be jumping the gun or anything but I heard some one on some analysis describe Maclin's upside as Marvin Harrison...

Id take that

Thats just the way we work bro...

And hes lost 4 of the last 8 NFC Championship Games...3 of them as a favorite...so Fatass is still on notice until he can stop the team from choking when it counts and actually win something - why would we be satisfied with continually losing conference championship games because of questionable play calling and inabilities to make in game adjustments?

very true that he's cheaper and younger, but he has had injuries...

no idea why i was watchin that show haha...flippin around and on espn is about 6 hrs of yanks/sox coverage.

If you want my team jersey I'm willing to switch.

It's an Andre Smith jersey, so it may be just a little big on ya...

:shake:

If I was a fan of a team that needed a coach and Andy Reid was available I would have immediate WOOD.

Good piece. We desperately need Maclin to be Steve Smith or Hines Ward durable. Obviously being a Steve Smith/Heins Ward talent would be the goal, but so long as the guy can take hits and get up every time, we might really have something here.

Birds picked up some undrafted college kids today:

That group includes Illinois State’s Walter Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall’s older brother.

Mendenhall is a 6′0,” 225-pound Illinois transfer who rushed for 796 yards and 11 touchdowns during his lone season at Illinois State, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

The Eagles also signed:
offensive guard Dallas Reynolds (Brigham Young)
wide receiver Brandon Robinson (Boston College)
cornerback Courtney Robinson (Massachusetts)
kicker Sam Swank (Wake Forest)
running back Marcus Thigpen (Indiana)
defensive end Josh Gaines (Penn State)
safety Reshard Langford (Vanderbilt)
fullback Marcus Mailei (Weber State).

I don't know who any of these people are, except I feel like I might have heard of Josh Gaines. Although I might be thinking of Chris Gaines.

By the way, right now, in the PR war between Sheldon and the team, Sheldon's winning.

At least with me he is.

I'm not going to sit here and say f**k the team. But everything I see from Sheldon at this point is done with a good deal of respect, and he comes off like someone who tried to do this thing the way it's normally done, but they basically told him to go screw.

Right now, I'm on mostly on his side.

Just another example of how the team loses the press battle on a daily basis.

I feel like me and you (well, mostly you...i think id use too many 'fuckings' for their taste...) could do a way better job handling the PR for this team than they do

They always come across like asses

Tom Heckert I actually dont mind listening to but Joe Banner should not be allowed to open his mouth. Hes like the little dork that got picked on in school and grows up and totally gets off on abusing his little bit of power in this world...

Dude, even though fatass has lost NFC Championships, the fact that they were there and at least had a chance is a lot better then a lot of teams can say. I can honestly say that even though Cowher failed many a time, no1 really called for his head like you guys call for fatass's head. Cowher failed just as many times. Thats just an example, the more obvious ones are teams that can barely make the playoffs or are a cellar team year in and year out who would love to have a guy that gets you as far as you get.

Personally, I think Andy is a little overrated though

Before you say, well Pittsburgh is Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is Philadelphia, the Steelers are the most all important thing here. The Steelers will always be the first story on the news here before any rapes or murders. Im sure that it would be tough for you guys to get in any sports news at all if you covered every major crime that happened in Philly everyday so I guess its apples and oranges

I feel like me and you (well, mostly you...i think id use too many 'fuckings' for their taste...) could do a way better job handling the PR for this team than they do

I think we'd probably both curse enough in the office to even it out. But, yeah, they've set the bar low enough that we could probably provide a dramatic upgrade.

From FoxSports:

Philadelphia

When rating this draft, start by remembering the Eagles used a first-round pick for Buffalo offensive tackle Jason Peters, who has Pro Bowl talent. Peters will team with ex-Bengal Stacy Andrews to give Donovan McNabb two new protectors on the outside. Then, the Eagles lucked into Missouri receiver Jeremy Maclin, who was rated No. 1 at his position on 18 teams' draft boards. Then in the second round, Pitt running back LeSean McCoy was another steal with 53rd overall pick. McCoy will give Brian Westbrook a breather this season.

Virginia Tech cornerback Victor Harris has only 4.6 speed, but he should be a core special-teams player. Harris did have 15 interceptions. You have to like the trade with New England in order to land cornerback Ellis Hobbs, who gives the Eagles some added depth in case they ever deal unhappy starter Sheldon Brown. Florida TE Cornelius Ingram could be a steal if his knee is OK. Grade: A

Am I the only one that thinks Sheldon Brown has only his agent to blame for this? Phil Sheridan wrote some shitty article today how the birds should cut him lose. Just make him play and promise to front load his contract if he's on his best behavior or something. I know this will never happen but he'll be traded next year if he doesn't shut up. I probably do side with Sheldon here but he is 30.

Sal Pal was also on ESPN 950 giving our draft a B+ but absolutely ripping it apart. He brings up the two things that I'm concerned about is the lack of a blocking tight end and how we need another running back because when Westbrook gets hurt we only have McCoy. Hopefully the new Mendenhall kid could become some sort of big back for us.

With the line and Weaver, Im not really worried about the lack of a blocking tight end...

Its not like LJ Smith was this phenomenal blocker...

I don't think Sheldon's agent has done the best job here. But from what's been in the press--which is all we have to go on--it seems like the Eagles have been just blowing both Sheldon and his agent off.

Sheldon doesn't come off as stupid in this thing, or as some guy who's just saying, 'yeah, man, I need a bigger house so gimme some more money.' He's making a valid argument and it seems like the Birds won't even engage in the conversation.

I agree with you, Smoke, if Weaver can block I'm not extremely concerned about not having a blocking TE. Mostly because I feel like blocking TEs are obtainable. It's guys who can catch the ball that are tough to find.

If Ingram's knee is OK, which it might just be, guys seem to come back from that injury all the time now, he could be huge for this team.

Yeah, I think Hobbs made a great comment when he was traded. That they're all just dollar signs to these organizations.

I don't agree with Mike Florio at PFT a lot, but he makes a good point about the Birds. There's no law against following the letter of the law and not apologizing for it, but a lot of times that makes you a complete *sshole and though there's no law against that, it can hurt your business worse than if you were breaking the law.

Yeah, I think Hobbs made a great comment when he was traded. That they're all just dollar signs to these organizations.

The Eagles traded two picks in this year's draft for Ellis Hobbs presumably as insurance in case Sheldon Brown attempts to hold out. The funny thing is, with one year remaining on his own contract, Hobbs has been talking like a player who has money on his own brain as well.

“Everyone is expendable,” Hobbs said. “At the end of the day we’re all dollar signs. Moves need to be made, things need to be done and at the end of the day that’s when you need to be professional about it and know that it’s a business and gone on. Sometimes you don’t fit into their program any more and like I said, unfortunately it was my time, but at the same time fortunately I can go to another team that wants me. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

“I was definitely surprised,” Hobbs said. “I mean like I said I knew something was going to happen, I just didn’t know when. You never know when and how, it’s kind of like somebody that’s about to die. You know they’re going to die eventually but when it hits you it’s kind of like a different impact.”

Hobbs is making a healthy $2.5 mil in the final year of his deal, but he's made it perfectly clear from day one he is unhappy with that amount.

"It's definitely frustrating when you see guys making certain amounts of money that you think you should get just as well and you deserve," Hobbs said. "It is what it is, and I'm getting paid more than a lot of people in this world, so that will come."

One note of interest: in the likely event of an uncapped season in 2010, new rules will make Hobbs a restricted free agent, which means the Eagles are not in a position where they must offer a long term contract if they want to keep him beyond '09.
