Coaching Carousel Thread -- Updated

Jimmy I just realized you used the big lead as a source. We can add in Cocaine Carter as well. Remember, these OSU insiders have no clue what actually is/was going on with Meyer but they have inside access to Jim NFL rumors. The early signing period is coming. This will happen every year more and more. So far, it actually hasn't been as bad as the previous years according to recruits and their families.

This was agreed upon in september i bet, step down at end of the year, so he doesnt have the 'stain' of being fired and the university saves money

Hes gonna have a miraculous recovery and be back within 3 years

Im kinda shocked he didnt fake fall down on the sideline though
Nobody wants to believe this but it fits everything that was said by actual sources back then. He definitely has some health issues but nothing that will keep him off the sidelines in the future...as of now. It's prolly better long run for OSU this happened now though ... We saw how the distractions hurt them at times this year (possibly costing them a playoff berth).

Geoff Collins, an Atlanta area native and a former Georgia Tech football staff member who has led Temple to two bowl games in two seasons as the Owls’ head coach, has been named the 20th football head coach in Georgia Tech history, director of athletics Todd Stansbury announced on Friday.

Collins compiled a 15-10 record in his two seasons at Temple, including an 8-4 record and 7-1 mark in the American Athletic Conference this season, when the Owls’ only conference loss came at No. 8-ranked and undefeated UCF. His 15 victories at Temple are the most ever by a head coach in his first two seasons at the school.

Last season, Collins’ Owls won the 2017 Gasparilla Bowl with a 28-3 victory over Florida International, good for Temple’s first bowl win since 2011. This year, the Owls earned a berth in the 2018 Independence Bowl, where they will face Duke.

Prior to becoming head coach at Temple, Collins was one of the nation’s most respected defensive coordinators, serving in the role at Florida (2015-16), Mississippi State (2013-14, co-DC: 2011-12), FIU (2010) and his alma mater, Western Carolina (2002-05). He is the only coach to ever be nominated for the Broyles Award, given to college football’s top assistant coach, at three different schools (FIU – 2010, Mississippi State – 2014 and Florida – 2015).

Collins’ 26-year career also includes a pair of stints at Georgia Tech, first as a graduate assistant and tight ends coach under head coach George O’Leary from 1999-2001, then as recruiting coordinator under head coach Chan Gailey in 2006. During his first stint at Tech, he was a G.A. for two seasons before being promoted to tight ends coach in 2001. The Yellow Jackets were 25-12 with three-consecutive bowl appearances during those three seasons, which were capped with a 24-14 victory over Stanford in the 2001 Seattle Bowl.

Collins’ coaching career also includes stops at Western Carolina (student assistant – 1993-94), Franklin (N.C.) H.S. (assistant coach – 1995), Fordham (GA coach – 1996), Albright (defensive coordinator – 1997-98), Alabama (director of player personnel – 2007) and UCF (linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator – 2007).

As a recruiter, he helped Georgia Tech land the highest-rated recruiting class in program history in 2006 and in 2007 helped Alabama sign the No. 1 class in the nation, which included running back Mark Ingram, who went on to become the first Heisman Trophywinner in Crimson Tide history in 2008.

As a student-athlete, Collins totaled 194 career tackles as an outside linebacker and defensive back at Western Carolina (1989-92). He had 68 tackles and six tackles for loss as a junior and helped lead WCU to a 7-4 record with 62 stops, including five behind the line of scrimmage, as a senior.

Originally from Conyers, Ga. in the Atlanta metro area, Collins, 47, is married to the former Jennifer Haynes. They have a daughter, Astrid (2).

An introductory press conference will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. The press conference will be streamed live at ramblinwreck.com.

this is an ask of anyone willing to take it on .... because I will not...

But can someone maybe maintain an excel sheet with :

Coach Out Coach In Coach of the Bowl

could be helpful from a quick tool perspective.

Seth Littrell announced he will stay at N Texas and withdrew his name from the Kansas State job.

Good career move. Just because Snyder won there doesn't mean anyone else can. No one ever did before Snyder got there.

Word is Gary Anderson back to USU. AD isn't on board but a whale donor wants him and is in a financial position to call the shots apparently.

He did ok there before, I guess .... but he is awful.
I think he Damn near had a nervous breakdown when he was at OSU. He looked skinny and unhealthy. He looks like a different guy now. He did wonders for Utah's D line this year, I hope he knows what he's doing if he goes back to being a HC.

He was good the first time -- why not the second time around? Ault sure made it work at UNR.
What BAR is saying is that AD didn't want him but big money booster did. Those situations can get tricky and potentially do harm to a program.

Kansas State hired Klieman from N Dakota State.

I like the hire. Kansas State is a tough, tough, job and this guy has proved he is a head coach. Anyone who watches NDSt can see just how well coached they are. He followed a legend and kept winning titles. And will probably win another this year.

He's proved he can find and evaluate talent and can coach them after he gets them.

We discussed this during the NDSU game the other day in the in-game. Purple Kansas is a perfect spot for him imo

Sounds like Dan Enos will take Locksley's spot as OC. Good for continuity. Also reported that Locksley is taking Butch Jones with him to Maryland. At least he got his cigar while in Tuscaloosa

AU will hire the OC from Memphis, but Gus will resume play calling duties. He just can't help himself. Though I guess this is better to announce now rather than do it at some point during the season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina is set to announce a trio of staff hires to Mack Brown’s coaching staff, highlighted by the addition of Phil Longo as offensive coordinator, multiple sources confirmed to Inside Carolina on Tuesday.
Former Texas Tech offensive line coach Brandon Jones and former Louisville wide receiver coach Lonnie Galloway will also join UNC’s coaching staff at their respective positions.

I was glad to see Longo land on his feet somewhere. He seems like a good dude, but he was on the chopping block at Ole Miss. I think we are about to find out whether Bateman's defenses at Army were actually good or just a product of Army's offensive time of possession because a Longo coached offense isn't going to play keep away.

I guess Don Brown was being looked at by Purdue as well during the Brohm flirtation. Also, reading through stuff today don't be surprised if another bigger school tries to get him as DC. The same thing happened last off-season.

Losing Diaz is a disaster for Miami. His defense was the only reason why that team won more than 3 games this season. The Richt retirement tour hopefully ends after next season.

I don't know anything about Manny Diaz. Does he have recruiting ties to S Florida I'd assume?

Temple can play but gonna have to get some FL recruits to go to Philly to compete with UCF, Memphis, Houston realistically. Of course this could be a couple years and out.

I enjoy the AAC tremendously, Temple need to hone in on being better than Cincinnati first, be the best northern team in the conference then compete with the players...really wish this conference would be considered a power conference. Too much talent in a lot of spots.

From what I have read Diaz is not much of a recruiter so he better get some guys on his staff who do that well. He did a great job at Miami despite the offense doing nothing most weeks. The Temple job has launched quite a few careers so maybe Diaz can parlay this opportunity into something bigger like Collins and Rhule.

Exactly.
It’s the Temple Launch Pad that is the attraction. Nothing more, nothing less.
