2013 Nba offseason news and notes

Antoine Walker threw his name into the coach discussion via twitter(wrt to the Celtics).

I honestly don't get how the things are done in the NBA (and in the world as well).

How is it possible that you have Hollins and Karl fired after amazing season and how come no one is taking them.

How is it possible that Clippers fall back option was Scott, probably worst coach in the league in the last 2 years?

How come, as it looks right now, we will have Karl, Hollins and Van Gundy brothers all without a job in this league?

I get that they have high demands both salary wise and roster wise, but you have several very good NBA teams that done very well the last few seasons (made it to playoffs) like Denver, Memphis and Boston (and even the Bucks), not to mention the Nets - all appear to be heading different direction.

The last thing that Nets lack is money - how come that couldn't bring one big name to them.

Memphis just made WC Finals and while I get that money is tight there, still, hire a big name...

Doesn't he owe money to a few goons in Vegas.

Could only imagine the point shaving in C's games if this came to fruition.

Scott was a contender for the Clips job because of his relationship with Paul. Paul runs that team

Looks like teams are shying away from paying a lot for Nba coaches, like you said Karl, Hollins and Van Gundy all would demand high salaries.

Come to Brooklyn baby

KG & The truth ....

The talks are centering around a package that would include Gerald Wallace, Tomike Shengelia, the expiring deal of Kris Humphries and three future first-round picks, sources told Y! Sports.

6:45 AM PT Arenas was booked for misdemeanor possession, and has been released without bail. We're told there were 100 POUNDS of fireworks in the truck.

0314-divider-graphic.jpg

Ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas' 4th of July is gonna suck -- 'cause he got nailed by cops early this morning for illegal fireworks -- A TON OF ILLEGAL FIREWORKS -- as in a full truckload of 'em ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us Arenas was pulled over by California Highway Patrol around 2:30 AM in Los Angeles for speeding in a Ford pickup -- but officers immediately saw that the truck was filled with fireworks ... sitting in plain sight in the bed and cab of the truck.

We're told Arenas was arrested and will be booked for possession of illegal fireworks, and cited for speeding -- he was allegedly doing 80 mph -- and driving without a license.

It's unclear exactly how much fireworks were in the truck, but it was enough that the LAPD bomb squad was called to handle the illegal booty.

Our camera guy counted around 20 boxes being unloaded ... very carefully.

Arenas -- whose last NBA team was the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2011-12 season -- was infamously busted for gun possession when he brandished a loaded pistol in his Washington Wizards locker room back in 2010.

Dude has trouble with things that go boom.

It's not just going to be KG and pierce.

Hump needs a change of scenery. He is a good player with good talent. Just needs to have playing time.

The Nets become a completely legitimate tile threat if this happens. Not a 2nd round threat, a team tha can actually beat Miami 4 out of 7.

Just took a bite of Brooklyn +3150 futures. If this deal happens I have the league's 3rd best team at 31.5-1, if the deal falls through the wager isn't big enough for me to cry over.

This isn't 2005, I'm not sure what the huge fuss over KG and Pierce is all about. The Nets owner reminds me of Daniel Snyder, with his hiring of Jason Kidd, and now trading for 2 guys who are clearly past their primes.

I'm a fan of KG's and to a lesser extent Pierce, but I'm also not delirious, they are clearly both past their primes. Boston wins this trade, in a landslide.

Boston talking trading Rondo too huh?

If the Celtics take a point guard with the 16th pick in the draft, it could be an indication they'll look to trade Rajon Rondo, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Well, the 16th pick in the draft just got very interesting. Reports are coming from all angles that the Celtics are going to have a fire sale, but Rondo being shipped would be a shock with his dollar-friendly contract and being in his prime at 27 years old. His ACL rehab is going well and is targeting a return to the court at training camp.

THIS makes sense

Dwight Howard will likely meet with the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard.

The Warriors would have to move some guys around to make room for a max deal that will be attached to Howard. If they can make it work, it does make sense on paper for the Warriors. Howard would be useful in the offensive rebounding game with all the threes Golden State hoists and he should open up the perimeter with teams double-teaming him in the paint. Be prepared for more Dwight rumors than you can handle over the next month.

MT <s>@</s>HaleMark: ESPN: Brooks is in deal. If so, <s>#</s>Nets have given up 1st-round pick in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 & 2018 in last 28 months.

wow, marshan brooks as well,,. ainge coveted him when he was in college,,
just from an entertainment view, I will at least watch now because these guys will/ should be constantly running the floor..

wondering if they use the amnesty on wallace..,,

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Pacers used their second-round pick on center Colton Iverson of Colorado State, then traded Iverson to Boston for cash.
A person with knowledge of the deal confirmed the transaction Thursday night on condition of anonymity because it was not yet official.
Iverson is a 7-foot, 255-pound center who was taken 53rd overall. He started his career at Minnesota. Last season, after transferring to Colorado State, he led the team in scoring with 14.2 points and rebounding at 9.8.

More trades...

The Boston Celtics made a move late in the draft, sending cash to the Indiana Pacers for the 53rd pick. The Boston Celtics then selected Colton Iverson, a center out of Colorado State.

Hawks also dealt Raul Neto (47) to Utah.

Philly's trades...Try and keep up here: at 38, they selected Nate Wolters from South Dakota State. They then decided to trade him to the Milwaukee Bucks for the rights to guard Ricky Ledo from Providence, and a second round pick in 2014.Sixers then traded Ledo to the Dallas Mavericks for future considerations (likely another second round pick).

So....

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Nate Wolters (#38) to Bucks for Ricky Ledo (#43) and a second round pick in 2014.
The Philadelphia 76ers traded Ricky Ledo (#43) to Mavs for future considerations.
The Atlanta Hawks traded Raul Neto (#47) to Jazz for cash.
The Indiana Pacers traded Colton Iverson (#53) to Celtics for cash.

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets trade underwent a few minor changes since it was first reported on Thursday afternoon, but it seems everything has now been sorted out. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and three first-round picks are still the important parts of the deal, but a few small changes have been made to the ancillary parts.
The final trade will send Garnett, Pierce and Jason Terry to Brooklyn in exchange for the expiring contract of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, MarShon Brooks and Keith Bogans (to make the salaries work) along with three first-round picks, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard. Nets players Tornike Shengelia and Reggie Evans were included in earlier iterations of the trade, but apparently were scrapped for Brooks and Joseph instead.
The three picks will come in the 2014, 2016 and 2018 drafts, but it's not as simple as saying the Celtics get Brooklyn's first-round pick in those drafts. Boston will receive the worse of Brooklyn or Atlanta's first-round pick in the 2014 draft, since the Hawks have the right to switch first-round picks with the Nets in the 2014 NBA Draft. Boston will then have the right to swap first-round picks with the Nets themselves in the first round of the 2017 Draft.
All in all, the new wrinkles likely aren't going to make a huge difference in the minds of fans that have already made up their mind about the deal, but at least the details seem to finally be sorted out.

awesome no sengelia AND NO REGGIE EVANS?????????????????????????????????????????????????? :dancing:

ecstatic that we still have reggie... absolutely awesome

the nets got rid a lot of their dead weight... gerald was good defensively but his shot selection was abysmal this past season... way too many threes and his confidence got rattled way too easily... brooks has a lot of potential but he needs a lot more progress... the celtics definitely got the pieces to rebuild thats for sure but the nets got the better end of this

and to add more drama, the nets are looking to sign jason collins

i dont agree but thats my opinion

The Mavericks are looking to acquire Rajon Rondo via a trade.

The Mavs are hoping that the addition of Rondo will be enough to attract Dwight Howard to the Mavs. Of course, Celtics GM Danny Ainge has said that the team wants to build around Rondo and they're not looking to trade him. However, the Celtics have made it clear that they're going to tank in an effort for a high pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Dallas will need to take on some of Boston's bad contracts -- like Gerald Wallace's -- and would likely give up Shawn Marion's expiring contract with young players like newly-drafted Shane Larkin. A Wallace contract on the books would also eliminate the chances of signing Howard. It's an interesting exchange, but it's a longshot at this point.

seems like a good idea, but Rondo would be tired of Dwights shit in 2 seconds.

The idea that the nets will be cap strapped for years is just flat out not true. The nets made out absolutely great.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Knicks close to acquiring Andrea Bargnani

1253.jpg

The Knicks appear to be close to acquiring Andrea Bargnani in exchange for Marcus Camby, Steve Novak and two draft picks, according to Howard Beck of the New York Times.

The deal could happen as soon as Sunday night. The Raptors have been trying to trade Bargnani ever since Jonas Valanciunas exhibited his skills as a legitimate NBA center. They also got a lot out of Amir Johnson at power forward, so the Italian is easily expendable. The Knicks could use a power forward to help stretch the floor for Carmelo Anthony and Bargnani had a career-low 1.7 shot attempts per game at the rim of his 12.1 overall attempts last season. The Knicks aren't giving up much, which could mean they're willing to take Bargs off Toronto's hands even at $22.5 million over the next two years. Stay tuned.

pacers are going to be very interesting when granger returns, they have to figure out what they are gonna do there

@WojYahooNBA: Houston has traded Thomas Robinson to the Portland Trail Blazers, league source tells Y! Sports.
