Great hire for UCLA, bad decision for Chesney. Good coach after good coach has tried at UCLA and they may have a little success here and there, but all they have proved is that UCLA is a crappy job that sidetracked their career. The administration doesn't care, the students don't care, they play in a; stadium 35 miles away (and the miles mean nothing. In L A it may take two hours to get there on any given day, and even longer to get back. On a really bad traffic day, and there are plenty of them in LA, it may take four hours)
On the surface you see a team with a great campus, good looking women everywhere, great weather and right in the center of an endless number of recruits, but it never works out. They haven't won even a conference title since Terry Donahue was coach and that was half a century ago. And that was in the Pac-10. Now they are in a much tougher conference.
And forget ever getting mentioned in the local media. UCLA is lucky to get a few paragraphs in the local paper and rarely even get mentioned on the local sports shows.
