Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

Silverfield to arkie
Golesh to aub
Sumrall to fla

Any coaches (like sumrall) at group of 5 schools will conceivably be allowed to coach their current team in playoff right. ?

Except kiffin.

I was hoping with all those fluff pieces on Kiffin all season that he had changed and wasn't the scumbag he's always been but no he will always be a bad person.
Like AL Davis said at the time, he was a liar and a scumbag. A tiger can't change its stripes, but Ole Miss knew what they were getting into when they hired him. Great coach, yes. But you better be prepared for this.

So true. And both sides benefitted greatly from the hire.

It feels like what @cubsker said, fire him with cause.

then try to land one of the good candidates left because they are getting scooped up left and right as we speak.

Just like politics and religion, I am trying to see all sides of a situation and where they are coming from. Took me a long-ass time to get here, but I'm finally here.

By the reports, Lane took a nuclear option here which I don't agree with but I still blame the system more than anything for this.

He's not helping it.

Lane has a long standing reputation of being a terrible guy so he gets no benefit of the doubt.

Bully move. The POTUS would be proud of the power play. Not saying it's right or wrong. Just being honest.

It was a "do you know who the eff i am?" Move.
Several staff members are not going. And notice how none of the defensive staff is mentioned as leaving. Kiffin wanted Golding to leave but Pete told him it wasn’t happening earlier in the week. He may or may not told Kiffin to suck it in so many words. Kiffin is a douchebag whose won NOTHING. That’s “who the eff he is”. Not even a top five coach. Wake up Majent.

I don't know where he'll end up, but I've always thought Golding will make a great HC.

Sources tell @FootballScoop star Ole Miss OC Charlie Weis Jr. is among the key coaches that Kiffin will take with him to LSU. Also continue to be told Rebels defensive coordinator Pete Golding has "momentum to land the HC job, has all the key people in his corner"

If situations like these are not built into contracts (school makes CFP but head coach is signing with another school) they will be built into contracts moving forward.

Lots of changes may come from this situation.
Ole Miss--or any school for that matter--could enforce the contract and stop the coach from coaching at another school. Contracts like the one coaches sign are enforced every day in the business and entertainment world. In fact, college football is the only business in the country I can think of that allows successful employees under contract to ignore the contract and leave.

Schools don't do it because they are afraid the coach will be so unhappy he will do a bad job

I'd like to see a school do it someday. Have the university officials notify the coach he will be held to his contract and he will be paid, but he will be assigned to a fund raising job for the university. Then sue the university who is trying to steal an employee under contract for tortious interference with a business relationship and toss in a count of misappropriation of trade secrets.

Of course no one will do it because the school that loses a coach will turn right around and hire a coach under contract to another university

I’ve been out of the country for a week so obviously have missed a lot, but I think the messed up calendar we have today is the root cause of most of this.

It wasn’t long ago that it was normal for a coach to finish the season with his current school before leaving, and the new school was okay with it because as long as everything was in place in January they could prepare for signing day in February. Now with the early signing period and the transfer portal window the new school needs them in place asap unless they’re willing to accept a year 0 situation with a completely decimated roster, and there aren’t many P4 schools willing to do that.

The calendar is definitely the cause of most of these issues. You have the draft (signing day), free agency (portal), and coaching hires all happening during the playoffs. It's insane

Here is the thing…not only has Kiffin “allegedly” told Ole Miss coaches leave with me now or you won’t have a spot on my staff…

…he’s put Ole Miss 9 miles behind the 8-ball as far as finding their next head coach.

I can’t remember a guy want to destroy a program as much as this guy does.

Where TF does Ole Miss go now for a HC? Amidst prep for a playoff spot?

Just from an outsider perspective I can't think of a worse "big" job than Auburn.
I'm quite frankly proud of how ISU has handled the entire process. Campbell rumors fizze every year and I attribute it to the atmosphere and the AD who is incredible at knowing the ceiling at what he has to sell

Is it even possible 5-10 years from now comments from this thread will seem silly and biased? Sure doesn't seem like it. The future is already written it seems.

A week or two ago many wanted him to stay. Now it seems like he was the most hated winner in school history. Took 40 years but now Im starting to see the origin of GEAUX TO HELL OLE MISS! May the rivalry renew with annual appointments.

You assume we'll be alive in 10 years
