Sunday Discussion Thread

We got a crazy windy day in stl, blowing out to right but it is fairly chilly with the wind right now so I dunno how ball will carry? The wind is def strong enough to be a factor, maybe if it warms up some in next few hours I could see ball carrying more than usual at busch today.

Brubaker pitching for pirates today, I’m a pretty big fan. Only concern is in his limited time he been worst on 5 days rest and during the day. Such a small sample with him only breaking into the rotation during last season I don’t know it’s a huge deal? The good is 14.2 innings vs Cubs last year he only allowed 3 er while sporting a 17/3 k:bb ratio! He struggled with his control in his 1st start at cincy which only allowed him to go 4 innings but he was able to work around the walks and only allow 1 run. Walks are not something that been a issue with him last year or in the minors so I’m not too concerned about that. Cubs offense is really struggling to generate offense as they been incredibly home run dependent. I don’t foresee that strategy leading to many runs today so think Brubaker should hold them down for 5 innings.

How will Trevor Williams pitch coming back to face his former team? I would think he be motivated to pitch well but I don’t know who has the edge in a matchup like this? Pirates should have a pretty good idea how he gonna attack them but he should know their weaknesses. After breaking out with 8 runs yesterday find it hard to believe buccos have much offense left! Lean pirates Ff but going with Ff u4.5.

the strong breeze out in stl gonna be a issue for ponce de Leon I think. He throws so many fastballs up and it shows as he doesn’t get a lot of ground balls. His control was way better than normal in his 1st start but he threw damn near 90% fastballs vs fish, I can’t imagine he gets away with that again. He has been lights out vs the brewers, in 36 abs 3 singles is it with a 15:4 k/bb ratio, I just can’t believe that sustainable! He not that good! Something gotta give!!

Sorry didn’t finish cards thoughts. Was in a hurry to get to casino to get the Cubs under in, I played the over 8.5 here in stl.

Kicking myself for Ff under instead of pirates Ff. Brubaker was key to both, just didn’t expect pirates to be able to score so much. I really like Brubaker, he flying way under the radar I think, he built like a horse and has pretty good stuff.

brewers smacked around ponce de Leon as expected. 7 runs in barely over a inning of work. Just couldn’t envision those numbers he had vs milw holding up, especially with this wind blowing out. 2 more runs to cash the over.

Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said veteran pitcher Tanner Roark has been moved to the bullpen in a move that could be permanent, per TSN Blue Jays Reporter Scott Mitchell.
Wonder of Milone slots in unless Pearson or Ray are ready to go

Yup. well so far it appears that the Cubs pitching staff may have its issues possibly much like the pirates. Only the Pirates staff is younger and has a chance to get better vs the Older Veteran pitchers the Cubs are relying on.

1. can't be worse than Roark and 2. looked great in the spring so hopefully it continues to translate, between Matz, him and Pearson I have high hopes then the last 2 got hurt so... loll
Yeah I love Pearson and Ray’s stuff. Both just need to be more economical w the pc. Matz I always thought had good stuff and so far has brought it

i don’t know a lot bout pirates staff as a whole without putting thought into it and looking but I’ve liked Brubaker since I saw him make his debut against cards last year. He built like a guy who can throw 200 innings no problem, his fastball/sinker is low/mid 90s and appears pretty “heavy”, good slider, and he pounds the strike zone which I love, he has never had any walk problems at any his minor league stops. I try not to get too excited bout someone simply cause they mow down cards garbage lineup but his stuff seemed pretty good. He kinda old for a pitching prospect but some guys just take longer to figure things out. We prob get a lot of good prices on him cause I don’t think he very well known and obviously pitching for a shitty team! Not sure why pirates yanked him so early the other day? He was only at 74 pitches when they took him out. Just hoping he remains under the radar for awhile and becomes a guy we can play ff ml’s or unders on.

That's always been Robbie's issue. Great stuff but his PC barely gets him out of the 5th most often, ends up seeing guys for a third time wayyyy too quickly.

Pirates seem to get good pitching
It seems to leave and get better elsewhere
Like the Royals, they're a farm system and probably just hope it pops one of these years for a short run

Too bad because they still have the most attractive stadium in MLB to the eyes for me

Ray could be so good, I just dunno at this point we can trust him to start being more efficient/have better control? It never been good and has gotten worse and worse the last several years. Maybe they can figure out wtf going on with his mechanics but Im not very optimistic. The worse his walk rate has gotten the more his hr rate has went up also! I’d assume cause he puts himself into counts where guys can sit on a pitch. Plus with his control all over the place he most likely serving shit up right down the middle at times. That said I’d still take him any day over Roark, kinda bummed we can’t fade Roark tho! Ray games have always been really tough to cap imo, he can go out and shut anyone down any given day, or get shelled.

I think Ray started to figure stuff out. He is out cause he fell carrying his kid and hit his elbow; but he looked great in the playoffs and into spring so i'm hoping it translates. Fresh start, no pressure etc.

PNC top 3 for me hands down. Have only a handful to do and i've done them all!

I hope you right, he fun to watch when he on. Kinda find myself rooting for this jays team. I wish they be allowed to go back to playing their games in Toronto, that spot in Florida appears to rain a lot!! I can’t stand messing with games with potential delays.

Petco is my favorite I've been to and SF (whatever it's called now) is on the to do list out West, naturally Fenway and Wrigley are on the list but I'm still more fascinated with PNC than any of them

royals lineup looks good enough to compete imo. Dunno bout the pitching tho? I’ve always hated the way matheny manages pens! For years I have hoped cardinals would be able to pry merrifield away from them, that dude a hell of a ball player! Seems like his name comes up every year around trade deadline but they never get it done!! Of course it could just be crazy cards fans and media bringing it up not the royals! Lol

wrigley kinda a shithole, lol.

Funny I've been to the newish ST facility for the Cubs here and it has Wrigley replicas, probably nicer than the real thing lol

it is, but still a must for a baseball fan. I was fortunate enough to be at a Cubs/Sox game as a teen. Sox fan threw a guy down the steps in between innings lol

im just a hater, lol. We have taken the trip up a handful of times to see cards play there over the years. Always a good time!

I would def like to go to Fenway sometime before I die!!! Never been to the northeast.
Personal for me, my grandfather used to go in when they opened the gates in the 7th inning to watch Satchel Paige pitch

Just a commitment for me to travel that far, not like it's a weekend trip

it was always the wrong direction to go to find cheap drugs so never made it that way! Lol. Chicago only a 3-4 hour drive so easy weekend trip. I would def like to visit east coast one these years now that I go places for other reasons!

That the EC city with plenty of family connections (Grandfather, Great Uncle, Aunt went to BU, uncle to Harvard) and mom spent a couple years growing up there but only time I've been was 5 days for business in 2001 in January so there's still a lot left on the plate.

I think Cleveland as far east as I been. North anyways, been southeast few times when I was young.
Only states I've never stepped foot in are Alaska and much of NE (Maine, NH, Vermont, RI, Conn) so that trip next time will be a lengthy one.

I need to see northeast and northwest. Been everywhere south and west (shocking right? Lol).
