The Truth Is Out There
Starting one early.

Make it a one-stop shop for all things NBA Playoffs...

A look at where things stand in the NBA playoff picture, with two days remaining in the regular season and all 16 teams that will head to the postseason this weekend now having clinched their spots.

EAST UPDATE

It's coming into focus. Slowly.
Indiana will be the No. 1 seed, wrapping that up when Miami lost at Washington. So the Heat are the No. 2 seed, and Atlanta will play the Pacers starting this weekend.
Everything else? Who knows.
Toronto and Chicago will take the race for No. 3 down to the final day; the Raptors need a win or a Bulls loss to get that spot, with No. 4 going to the other club. Brooklyn can wrap up No. 5 with a win Tuesday. Washington has a chance at fifth, yet could finish No. 7. And Charlotte got a buzzer-beater win at Atlanta to keep its chance at finishing No. 6 - and avoiding Miami - alive.

---

WEST UPDATE

Memphis grabbed the final available playoff spot by winning in Phoenix on Monday night, a tremendous game that wasn't decided until the final seconds. The loss eliminated the Suns, who were one of the feel-good stories in the league all season.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City still hasn't clinched the No. 2 seed; the Thunder lost at New Orleans, extending the Los Angeles Clippers' slim hopes of finishing second alive for at least another day.
So just like in the East, all that's left to decide are some seedings. Fifth-seeded Portland will open at fourth-seeded Houston in the West quarterfinals; after that, just about everything will have to be decided after Wednesday's slate of finales.
Houston clinched No. 4 by beating San Antonio - which will be the top seed - on Monday night. Golden State locked up No. 6 by topping Minnesota.

---

TUESDAY'S GAMES

New York at Brooklyn: Nets playing for No. 5 seed. Knicks lead weird season series 2-1: New York has won by 30 and 29, Brooklyn by 23.
Denver at L.A. Clippers: Long shot, sure. But if the Clippers win here, and beat Portland, and OKC loses its finale to Detroit, Doc Rivers' club gets No. 2.

---

CURRENT BRACKET

First-round matchups if the season ended Monday...
East: Indiana-Atlanta, Miami-Charlotte, Toronto-Washington, Chicago-Brooklyn.
West: San Antonio-Memphis, Oklahoma City-Dallas, L.A. Clippers-Golden State, Houston-Portland.

---

NOTE OF THE DAY

Mike Miller loves this time of year. Including his season-high 21-point effort in Memphis' big win Monday, he now has a total of four 20-point games in the last three seasons.
They've all come in April or June.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"We were able to play everybody - no injuries - and we got a good sweat out of it." - San Antonio's Tony Parker, as his team tuned up for the playoffs in a loss to Houston.

:shake:

Heat gave up the 1-seed to possibly avoid Brooklyn. No ifs, buts or maybes.

Nets have too many big guys to throw at LeBron and fuck his flow.

Nets 3-7 SU last 10 vs Chicago (1-2 this season)

Nets 4-6 SU last 10 vs Indy (0-4 this season).

Nets 6-4 SU last 10 vs Toronto (2-2 this season)

Nets 4-6 SU last 10 vs Miami (4-0 last 4 though, swept the regular season series).

And I think they probably will, can't see Crooklyn getting by both the Bulls and Pacers or the Raps for that matter.

Nets the biggest underachiever in the East this season given their roster.

I have no faith in George hill -

I think Memphis will be very undervalued especially vs S.A.

I don't know - SA really dominated the Grizz this year.
And this is why I think they will be over valued

Dont put to much stock into how they played in the regular season.. Scheduling, injuries and grind of the season..

Eastern Conference playoffs make me want to watch paint dry. Going to struggle to watch any of the 1st round playoffs. Might be the first year ever Im more excited for the NHL playoffs than the NBA. Just a shame someone so exciting like Phoenix has to stay home while Atlanta and Charlotte get to play on.

SOS (Strength of Schedule) Power Ratings...

30. Orlando (23-58)

Not surprising the top 10 are all from the West and the bottom 10 are all from the East.

There seems to be some love out there for Memphis. I'm not nearly as well versed as you guys , but I don't see it here. What is the angle with Memphis? Where the offense going come from? I just can't seeing Memphis being able to grind out games and compete.

Are you expecting some real inflated lines?

The value lies with Memphis if they face OKC.

Scott Brooks will give them a win or 4, Pops will school Joerger in his first HC playoff gig.

In saying that, I think the Grizz will compete if they face SA. Will come down to the spreads offered by Vegas. Grizz would go into that match-up with 'house money' given they've lost the series before it has begun.

Let's hope the Grizz get that 7-seed tomorrow night.

Grizzlies success last few months was more about having backloaded eastern conference games. They continue to not play well against the west. Barely over 500 and made up a dozen games over 500 vs the east. 3-12 in their own division. Not upsetting anyone guys, sorry.

it was more about getting Gasol back from injury - more than half of their games over the last 2 months were vs. the west and on the road - sure some of the eastern teams played into it- their schedule (travel, b2b, situation, etc) the last 6 weeks was tough..

Gasol missed 23 games- 15 of them were vs. the west.
Their last 25 games - 14 vs west (including tonight)

memphis might not upset anyone but their success has very little to do with playing bad east teams.. like indy and miami and brooklyn...or were those not the bad east teams you were talking about?

Numbers say a team 19 over 500, got roughly 70% of those 19 vs the east in half the games! Simply the truth, nothing more.

just too much talk about them in my opinion. Let's talk about some other series.

A look at where things stand in the NBA playoff picture, with one day remaining in the regular season.

EAST UPDATE

How is New York not in the playoffs? Even without Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks beat Brooklyn on Tuesday night - their third double-digit win over the Nets this season.
And that means five seedings will be decided on the season's final night.
Indiana is No. 1, Miami is No. 2 and Atlanta is No. 8. Brooklyn could have wrapped up No. 5 on Tuesday.
Toronto controls its destiny for No. 3, Brooklyn can still win to get No. 5 and Washington can ensure it finishes no worse than No. 6 with a victory.

---

WEST UPDATE

More end-of-season madness awaits: Four seedings are undecided.
San Antonio is No. 1, Houston is No. 4, Portland is No. 5 and Golden State is No. 6.
The Clippers could have settled two more seeds if they had lost Tuesday night, but their win over Denver kept them alive in the race with Oklahoma City for No. 2.
Those controlling their fates on the season's final night: Oklahoma City in the race for No. 2, and Dallas and Memphis in the race for No. 7 - which works out nicely, since they play one another.

---

WEDNESDAY'S GAMES

Indiana at Orlando: Pacers could finish 21-20 on road.
Chicago at Charlotte: Bulls would be No. 3 with win and Toronto loss. Would be seeded No. 4 with loss or Toronto win. Charlotte would be No. 6 with a win and a Nets loss; 7th otherwise.
Washington at Boston: Wizards would be No. 5 with a win and a Nets loss; No. 6 with a win and Nets win; No. 7 with a loss and a Charlotte win.
Houston at New Orleans: No playoff relevance. Read: Lots of backups.
Brooklyn at Cleveland: Nets would be No. 5 with win, though they don't seem overly concerned.

Philadelphia at Miami: LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all expected to rest for Miami.
Atlanta at Milwaukee: This year's No. 8 seed plays last year's No. 8 seed.
Utah at Minnesota: Could it be Rick Adelman's finale?
Toronto at New York: Raptors will be No. 3 with a win or a Bulls loss. If neither happens, they're No. 4.
L.A. Lakers at San Antonio: The Lakers' season, mercifully, comes to an end.
Detroit at Oklahoma City: Thunder finally wrap up No. 2 with win; otherwise, door opens for Clippers.
Dallas at Memphis: Game of the night. Winner gets No. 7 in West. Loser goes to San Antonio for Game 1.
Golden State at Denver: Warriors locked into No. 6.
L.A. Clippers at Portland: Will Blake Griffin play? Got his 16th technical of season Tuesday, so if it's not rescinded, he serves one-game league-mandated suspension.
Phoenix at Sacramento: Suns could become first team since 2008 Warriors to win 48 and miss playoffs.

CURRENT BRACKET

First-round matchups if the season ended Tuesday...
East: Indiana-Atlanta, Miami-Charlotte, Toronto-Washington, Chicago-Brooklyn.
West: San Antonio-Memphis, Oklahoma City-Dallas, L.A. Clippers-Golden State, Houston-Portland.

NOTE OF THE DAY

Barring some historically low-scoring games on the final night, this NBA season will see more total points than ever before. The current mark is 247,100 set in 2009-10; this season's pace is for around 248,000 points to be scored.

Memphis went 0-4 against San Antonio during the regular season. The Grizzlies went 1-3 against the Thunder and 2-1 against the Clippers.

The Elias Sports Bureau notes that there have been 55 instances in which a team was swept 4-0 or worse in the regular season and then went on to face that opponent in the postseason. The team that swept the regular-season series went on to win 51 of those 55 postseason meetings.

Raptors gonna rapt....

should be some decent games against BK -- deron williams has beaten the rapts single handedly in the past, dude might be too old to do it now though

Indy in 7???

I think that Indy in 4 - 5 games will wrap it up
Miami in 6
Nets in 6
Bulls in 6

Spurs in 5
Oklahoma in 7
Clippers in 6
Rockets in 5 - 7

Curious to see series prices. I have zero confidence in the Pacers going anywhere, and will be grabbing pts with the Hawks to start the series, prob around 8. Nets are built to beat the Heat but may not even get past the raptors.... still +1450 to win the East is a consideration for a long shot wager. Pretty sure I'm getting down on the Durantula props and Thunder+215 to win the West.

The pacers struggles were due to very shitty scheduling and very little practice time. Do not forget that.

West matchups= phenomenal

East matchups= would rather watch Bill and Guilana with my wife

Lots of people talking Memphis over OKC....I don't see it.

My .02 on Indy - they got bored with the regular season, and defense takes more out of you than offense (in their first 41 games, they conceded 90+ pts 21 times; it was 31 times through their last 41 games - their ATS skid started almost exactly halfway through the reg. season, w/their SU skid really only encompassing the last month, when the weight of scheduling realities get added into the mix).

I think projecting their mid-season ATS & late season SU woes into the playoffs is a dangerous thing to do. Their recent poor form could be for real, but it could also be a sucker punch. The key will be that #1 defense (ok, they finished #2 to the Bulls, but that 2nd half of the season hurt their overall average. They were #1 by a distance when they were "playing for real").

Curious to see other's series prices. My book seems to be shady with their numbers sometimes.

Without Bogut, the Warriors are going to need someone to step up and that guy will be Draymond Green. JO will start with Lee, but Draymond will see a lot of time. I don't want to make any predictions on who will win this series but I can make 1 prediction: Draymond and Blake will get into some kind of scuffle, fight, pushing match, flagrant situation. This series will be exciting. I'm kind of tempted to take a stab at GS at +290. Hopefully we'll see some horrible ft shooting by at least DeAndre, maybe Blake although he's improved.

Yeah clips/ warriors should be good. Teams don't like eachother with should make for some good entertainment

took rox in the series over blazers pretty big, i thought they would be at least -250 and i might add more..

Seems like many like the Rockets to advance. Why all the love? Seems like the typical 4 vs 5 matchup with a slight edge to the 4 seed with home court advantage. Harden & Dwight? Depth?

Harden is basically unstoppable for Portland. And Houston has better depth and uses it's depth more meaning the players have been used consistently so they know their roles better than Portland.
