2019 Texas Rangers entire season thread

BringInTheLefty

Pretty much a regular
Back again for another awful season, Vegas has our win total at 70.5. I see us winning 63 games, our starting pitching rotation is probably the worst in all of baseball. Joey Gallo is sadly still with the team, while he hits 40 HR’s he still strikes out way to much. Adrian Beltré our team leader has retired, now who keeps these guys in check?
Next year our new ballpark opens, ownership needs to do something to make fans come to the park but won’t spend any money. Will be a very tough sell.

Our starting pitching rotation as of this morning looks like this:
Shelby Miller his career stats are 37-53

Alright, thanks for getting this started again. We are looking forward to the thoughts all season.

Hey BTL. I was in Texas for a concert last year, and decided to hit up a game. And what a game it was! June 17th, 13-12 over Colorado. Here's my question.
That is a pretty nice stadium, in fact I loved it! Why tear it down?

It is a very nice stadium but our new one will have a retractable roof. We badly need it for the summer months. Now some fans will come no matter how bad we are & we will be bad for a few more years

Our five starters sadly are still the same since camp started
Mike Minor is our “ace” & will be our opening day loser against the Cubbies
Drew Smyly
Lance Lynn
Edison Volquez
Shelby Miller

We have three injuries currently led by Joey Gallo our starting LFer he’s got a mild sprain in his right groin but has stated he will be ready for opening day. Ronald Guzman our starting 1B has left knee stiffness but also said will be ready on opening day. Yohander Mendez left today’s start with tightness in his left elbow.

Our rotation has 3 guys who are returning from Tommy John surgery. Volquez,Smyly & Miller all had their surgeries in 2017. It looks like we will have 7 guys in our ‘pen on opening day. That leaves us with a very short bench we’d have only 4 guys there.

Thankfully our extremely low expectations are still in tact. I was hoping to see a few positives during the Spring Training process but I haven’t .
Oh well next year a new “home” & hopefully we sign a few names to make us a competitive team once again.

Today starts the new season, no hope for a winning year. Only hope we don’t lose 100 games.
Our starting lineup vs the Cubbies:

DeShields CF
Odor 2B
Andrus SS
Gallo LF
Pence DH
Mazara RF
Cabrera 3B
Guzman 1B
Mathis C
Minor SP

not surprised the way game ended up, Minor lasted 4.2 giving up 6 runs all of them earned striking out three. Chavez got lit up .02 giving up 3 runs all earned along with 2 walks now has a 40.50 ERA.
Andrus & Mazara each hit HR’s, Gallo went 0-3 striking out one time. Andrus ended up with 3 hits.
Baez hammered a first-pitch fastball from Jesse Chavez & he became the first Cubs player to have at least two homers on Opening Day since Corey Patterson in 2003.

I’m currently away, and lack of good WiFi so today & tomorrow’s games will be recaped on Sunday

I’m happy that NCL has fixed their WiFi so I can stay in touch, today should be an interesting game for us. Yu back in Globe Life, but pitching as a Cub. Crowd should be on his side. Will be shocked if our team isn’t really into beating him, let’s see

Stop the presses, we are at .500 we knocked around Yu he lasted only 2.2 innings he allowed 7 walks & 1 HR. Obviously not ready for the season.
Volquez wasn’t great at all, lasting 4.0 innings 6 hits 4 runs all of them earned. K’d 3 & walked 4.
Cabrera & Gallo each hit HR’s, Joey’s was a 3 run blast. Gallo is 1-7 thus far. Andrus & Odor each with 2 hits. Cabrera had 3 hits & hit a 2 run dinger.
LeClerc recorded his first save.

Lynn heads to the hill this afternoon

a wild pitch gave us the 11-10 victory, which also gave us a series win over the Cubbies ~ our record now stands at 2-1
DeShields lone hit was a big one, a grand slam ~ Cabrera hit his 2nd HR &
drove in 3 ~ Mazara drove in 2 ~ Mathis hit his first HR of the season ~ Gallo went 2/5 striking out twice, he scored the winning run on the wild pitch, he’s struck out 4 times in three games his BA stands at .250

as a team we struck out 6 times in game 1, 14 times game 2 & 7 times game 3 that’s 27 times which is 9 times per game which is awful ~ been a problem last 3 seasons the lack of discipline at the plate

in the three games we scored 23 runs which is a 7.66 runs per game average, but we gave up 28 runs which is a 9.33 runs per game average

our starters:
Minor 4.2 allowing 6 runs all earned
Volquez 4.0 allowing 4 runs all earned
Lynn 5.2 giving up 7 runs all earned

pen:
Chavez has made 2 apperances ~ opening day he pitched .2 gave up 2 hits 3 runs all earned walked 2 gave up 1 HR, yesterday didn’t record an out gave up 3 hits 1 run which was earned ~ his ERA stands at 54.00

Leclerc has been very good, he’s pitched 2.1 innings in two apperances given up no runs his ERA stands at 0.00 ~ only walked one his WHIP is 0.86

Astros head to town for a three game set starting tonight, let’s see how we do. If our SP’s can’t last then it could be a long series.

I live in Abilene and make games often. You aren't lying about the summer months in left field...BRUTAL

Big Astros fan too. I'll be at the game Wednesday.

Cheers

lost a well pitched game 2-1, our record is now 2-2
BTW the Astros have now won 9 straight games at Globe Life
Smyly threw 73 pitches over 3 innings, he allowed 4 hits 1 run which was earned a lead off HR to Springer walked 2 & struck out 2
Sampson who was called up from AAA took the loss he tossed 6 innings allowing 4 hits 1 run which was earned walked 2 struck out 3

Chirinos our C from last year did us in with a double in the 6th

Our 1-5 hitters went 1-16 at the plate, Choo off to a rough start went 0-4 now batting .100
Andrus 0-3 striking out all 3 times
Gallo 0-3 striking out once
as a team we struck out 7 more times
we only mustered 2 hits

tonight we face Verlander, if we are going to win any games in this series tonight I’m thinking is it

we won 6-4, our record now stands at 3-2 Verlander only went 4.0 allowing 6 hits 4 runs all of them earned walked 3 struck out 4 & gave up one HR which was a 2 run shot by Cabrera

Miller only lasted 3.2 giving up 5 hits 2 runs both earned 5 walks & 2 strikeouts he didn’t allow a HR
our pen had to pitch 5.1 at this rate will be blown out by May 1st
Leclerc pitched one inning & recorded his 2nd save
Kelley got his 2nd win

Cabrera hit his 3rd HR of the season it was a 2 run shot he has 7 RBI’s
Gallo knocked in 2 has 5 RBI’s & he actually didn’t strikeout
Mazara & Andrus each knocked in 1
as a team we struck out 9 times Guzman led the team with 4

Tonight on paper looks like a total mismatch Cole vs Minor

Minor was very good as we shut out the ‘Stros 4-0, record stands at 4-2. We have won our first two series.
Minor pitched 7 innings allowing 5 hits 0 runs 2 walks & 7 K’s
Mazara had 2 hits one of them a solo HR his 2nd of the year
Pence & Guzman each knocked in one run
Choo & Odor went a combined 0-7
Cabrera went 0-4 striking out 3 times
Gallo went 0-1 & actually drew 3 walks he did strike out
As a team we struck out 13 times

Home plate ump Ron Kulpa made himself the “star” of the game by telling AJ Hinch “I can do anything I want” as he tossed Hinch. To me he purposely called balls to agitate the ‘Stros players & bench. When Cole left the game he had words with Kulpa.

We went off to Anaheim to play the 1-5 Angels. Won’t get my hopes up but we should beat these guys....should

Our winning streak continues it’s up to 3 as we beat the Angels 11-4, our record stands at 5-2. We scored 5 in the top of the 1st 3 runs courtesy of Gallos 2nd HR of the season followed up by a 2 run blast from Guzman also his second the year.
Choo- Choo finally had a good night at the plate going 2/3 knocking in 3
Elvis went 3/5 knocking in 2
Volquez still not effective only pitching 3.2 innings allowing 4 hits 2 runs both earned walked 4 struck out 3 and gave up two solo HR’s
Our pen had to pitch 5.1 innings Springs got his first W of the year
As a team we struck out 10 more times, Odor & Forsythe each 3 times

Currently we are clicking, our O is producing our starters other than Minor aren’t. Also our pen is being over used. But hey I’ll gladly take the 5-2 start
Tonight the over is 8.5 I’d say that will cash by the end of the 5th

Volquez was put on the IL with a elbow strain, we’ve called up Kyle Bird from AAA Nashville....didn’t take long for a questionable pitching staff to start falling apart
Wish our ownership would sign Keuchel

Mike Trout beat us by himself, as he blasted two solo shots & our win streak ended at 3. We lost 3-1, our record stands at 5-3
Lynn pitched well going 7.0 allowing 5 hits 2 runs both earned & 1 HR
Gallo hit his 3rd HR of the season giving us our only run
Elvis went 2/4 and is batting .424 off to a very nice start
Once again we are striking out way to many times, 12 last night led by Mathis. Odor, Mazara & Gallo all struck out twice

Smyly (0-0) vs Skaggs (0-1) this afternoon

Trout beat us again by himself, this time with a grand slam in the bottom of the 4th. It was a 458 foot blast. We lost 5-1 our record now stands at 5-4
Smyly only lasted 3.1 innings allowing 6 hits 4 runs all of them earned walking 3 & striking out 4. In his two starts this season he’s only pitched 6.1 innings with a 7.11 ERA & a 2.37 WHIP
The lack of discipline at the plate continues, as a team we struck out 12 times. Odor,Pence,Andrus & DeShields all struck out twice. We have struck out 47 times in the past 4 games
Gallo was given the day off

We will try & gain a series split today, Miller vs Stratton

We have lost 3 in a row & Trout hit one more HR as we lose 7-2 our record now stands at 5-5. Trout homered in all 4 games of our series 5 HR’s in total

Miller lasted only 2 innings gave up 4 hits 4 runs all earned walked 3 struck out 1
He threw 67 pitches, 39 of them in the second inning
Our pen had to pitch 6 more innings
Guzman was placed on the IL and will be out at least 4 weeks, Patrick Wisdom was called up from AAA Nashville, he & Logan Forsythe will split the 1B position
Gallo knocked in our only 2 runs with his 4th HR of the season it was his only hit of the day & did strikeout once
As a team we did strike out 7 times

In the last 3 games of this series we only scored 4 runs after scoring 11 in the opener
Off tomorrow as we head to Arizona to face the D’Backs

We wasted a good start from Minor, pen gave up 3 in the bottom of the ninth to lose 5-4
Dyson hit a pinch hit 3 run shot off of LeClerc our record now stands at 5-6
Our losing streak is now at 4

Minor threw 7 innings allowing 5 hits 2 runs both earned 2 walks 5 strikeouts he did give up two solo shots
LeClerc imploded 0.1 giving up 3 hits 3 runs all earned & walked one

Lynn pitched well throwing 6 innings allowing 4 hits 1 run which was earned striking out 9 walking 2
DeShields, Odor & Pence all knocked in 1 Pence hit his 1st dinger of the season
Forsythe knocked in 2
We struck out 15 more times, our lack of discipline at the plate has been an issue for the past three seasons
Gallo went 0/5 striking out all 4 at bats, Joey last 2 games is 0-9 & now batting .189
Andrus,Pence,Cabrera,Lynn & Wisdom all struck out twice
We were 4-13 with RISP
Off today & heading home to face the A’s for a weekend series

We were leading 6-1 after 5 innings, ended up losing 8-6 our record stands at 6-7

Gallo went 0/4 striking out 3 more times, his BA now at .171
Mazara & Choo each struck out twice

Sampson 0-1 1.86 vs Estrada 0-1 4.87 today

bullpen threw 5 innings only giving up 2 hits & no runs, Springs got his second win Leclerc his third save
Andrus & Sampson each drove in 2 runs, Elvis hit his 3rd HR a solo shot
DeShields,Pence & Cabrera each drove in one run
we only struck out 4 times
Gallo had the day off

Angels head to Globe Life tomorrow
being 7-7 is better than I expected but we have so many holes to fill, starters not lasting long enough our pen over worked & lack of discipline at the plate

Our bats woke up, powered by 3 HR’s we win 12-7 record now stands at 8-7
Miller only went 4.1 innings allowing 6 hits 4 runs all earned walking 3 striking out none

Amazing we were 4 for 19 with RISP but still managed to score 12 runs

Mike Minor pitched a complete game gem, shutting out the Angels 5-0 our record now stands at 9-7
He threw 103 pitches, he’s far & away exceeded all expectations
His ERA is 2.60 has thrown 27.2 innings striking out 22 has a WHIP of 0.94

A day off today, as we get ready for the Astros this weekend at Globe Life
We will be facing Verlander,Cole & McHugh, hopefully we get one W

Chopz33

I’m pleasantly surprised, but I’d like to see how we do vs Astros, then we’re off to Oakland & Seattle...Other than Minor our SP’s are just ok & our pen throwing to many innings....

i think i saw a post that said we haven't swept the Angels in 6 years. think the total wins still falls below 73?

Nice day off yesterday, tonight back to business
Three big series upcoming starting with the Astros, then Oakland & Seattle

Tonight it’s Verlander 2-0 3.52 vs Smyly 0-1 7.15

Astros delivered a 3 spot in the top of the first & it was over then, they went on to a 7-2 victory our record stands at 10-8
Smyly went only 3.2 allowing 5 hits 4 runs all of them earned striking out 8 walking 3 and giving up 2 HR’s back to back in the top of the first
We only mustered 4 hits all game, 2 of them from Gallo who hit a meaningless solo shot in the 9th it was his 7th of the year
Santana hit his first of the season off of Verlander, only run he allowed through 7 innings of work
As a team we struck out 9 times, Mazara,Cabrera & Mathis each 2 times yes Joey added one as well
Won’t see this maybe all season long went 0-1 with RISP

Cole 1-2 3.24 VS Sampson 0-1 5.93 tonight

So far it’s been a series of first inning KO’s tonight we scored 5 & cruised to a 9-4 victory our record stands at 11-8
Cabrera went 2/4 knocking in 3, DeShields went 1/4 knocking in 2
Santana,Forsythe & Gallo each knocked in 1, Gallo hit a solo shot his 8th of the season
Sampson lasted only 4.1 innings allowing 7 hits 2 runs both earned walking 1 striking out 3
Kelley pitched 1.2 innings allowed only 1 hit & gaining his third victory
We struck out 12 times as a team

Looking for a series win this afternoon Miller 0-1 9.00 VS McHugh 3-1 1.96

We scored 3 in the first, jumped out to a 10-1 lead after the 4th then had to hold on to an 11-10 victory
Winning the series and upping our record to 12-8
Miller went 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits 4 runs 3 of them earned walking 2 striking out 3 giving up 2 HR’s
Kelley recorded his first save
Forsythe & Pence went back to back in the third inning
Gallo went 2/3 knocking in 5 he’s got 22 RBI’s and now batting .281
Pence went 1/3 knocking in 3
Andrus went 2/4 knocking in 2 he’s batting .363
Forsythe knocked in 1
We struck out 6 times

After 20 games we stand at 12-8 I’m pleasantly surprised, but not sold on this team as of yet. Still not sure why ownership won’t sign a Keuchel or Kimbrel we head into a great new stadium next year without star power
Our pen has been over worked starters average, our offense has done well, but I know how fast we could go on a big losing streak
3 in Oakland & 4 in Seattle this week, I hope we get minimum 3 wins on this trip

TEX most profitable team so far this year. :shake:

They made the right decision to walk Altuve with bases loaded in 9th yesterday...in retrospect

Not surprised by the outcome, we lost 6-1 in a lackluster effort, most likely the “hangover” from beating the Astros
Tonight a much better effort is needed, our record stands at 12-9
Minor threw 6.0 innings allowing 4 hits 4 runs all earned walking 3 striking out 4 & giving up a HR to Piscotty
We struck out 13 times, 3 from Forsythe twice from Santana,Andrus & Gallo
Went 1-7 with RISP & LOB 10
We had 6 hits 2 from Choo-Choo he’s in mid season form, won’t be surprised to see him gone pretty soon
Many teams need a quality lead off hitter

Tonight I’m saying this is our first must win game or at least a good effort just falling short

Game fell apart in the bottom of the 4th, as the A’s scored six times, we lost 11-5 dropping our record to 12-10
Lynn got blasted 3.1 innings giving up 9 hits 8 runs all earned walking 2 striking out 3 & giving up 1 HR
Santana went 3/5 knocking in 2 runs due to hitting his 2nd HR of the season a 2 run shot
Mazara,Cabrera & Forsythe each knocked in 1 run
Gallo went 3/4 raising his avg to .300
We struck out 9 more times, went 3-13 with RISP & left 10 on base
Choo-Choo went 0/5 striking out 3 times

We try to avoid getting swept this afternoon, let’s see what happens
