***2017 Recruiting*** aka the LSU Thread...

[h=2]Defensive Linemen[/h]

Needs: 7-8; Commitments: 4Top Targets
***** DT Rashan Gary (6-5/293) Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic
Skinny: Ed Orgeron paid a visit to Gary the first weekend of the contact period last week. While the visit went well, LSU does not feel good about where it stands. We’re keeping Gary on here just because LSU will continue to recruit him. However, things would have to drastically change for the Tigers to be a legitimate player as it currently stands with Michigan still the team to beat in our view.
***** DT Shavar Manuel (6-4/290) Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Skinny: Things began to take a turn after Ed Orgeron saw Manuel in person against Paramus (N.J.). Look for Manuel to stay in-state because interest from LSU is not nearly what it once was.
***** DT Rashard Lawrence (6-3/305) Monroe (La.) Neville
Skinny: LSU has taken every opportunity to be at Neville during the contact period and word is the Tide is beginning to turn more towards LSU’s favor, no pun intended. Alabama is still a major player, but if LSU stays on its current course then we like the picks that we have in of Lawrence to LSU. An official visit is still on tap for January to LSU, and Alabama is slated to get one as well.
**** DT Edwin Alexander (6-2/310) Hammond (La.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Skinny: Since re-committing to LSU back in April at the spring game, Alexander has remained steadfast in his pledge to the Tigers. Talk of Ed Orgeron and other jobs created a little concern on Alexander’s end. As of right now, that appears to be the only thing that could really throw a Mouse wrench into his recruitment.
**** DT Glen Logan (6-4/290) Destrehan (La.)
Skinny: Logan is a huge priority for the staff and it has shown as Frank Wilson and co. have made themselves quite visible around Destrehan. Texas and Miami are expected to get official visits in January, along with LSU. There may be a tense moment here and there, but as long as Ed Orgeron is in Baton Rouge then the Tigers should be fine.
*** DE Caleb Roddy (6-5/255) Denham Springs (La.)
Skinny: An official visit to Texas is still a possibility in January. However, something would have to drastically change for Roddy to change course, and even a coaching change would likely not be enough to send him elsewhere.
*** DE Andre Anthony (6-3/220) New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr
Skinny: Anthony continues to maintain that he is rock solid with his pledge to LSU and there has not been any drama surrounding his situation.
**** DE Emmit Gooden (6-3/285) Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood
Skinny: Kevin Steele has visited Gooden during the contact period to show the level of interest that LSU has. However, with academics being a major obstacle, the odds of anything happening at this point are very remote.
**** DE Brian Burns (6-5/215) Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage
Skinny: Ed Orgeron and Corey Raymond are slated to go in-home on Friday with the hopes of locking down a weekend for an official visit in January. The Tigers are on the outside looking in with Florida surging as the team to beat. Burns has already been to LSU, unofficially, but if he doesn’t visit in January then you can write him off.
**** DT Ross Blacklock (6-3/326) Missouri City (Texas) Elkins
Skinny: Texas A&M is the team to beat as LSU has put its attention elsewhere.
**** DT Raekwon Davis (6-7/315) Meridian (Miss.)
Skinny: Ed Orgeron has visited Davis during the contact period and the Tigers feel they will get an official in January. Mississippi State will host the Alabama commit on Jan. 15, so that leaves only two weekends unless he takes a midweek visit. LSU is definitely still in it and Kirby Smart going to Georgia has given the staff more optimism of late. Academics could be a question that comes into play over the next eight weeks.
**** DT Stephon Taylor (6-4/292) New Orleans (La.) McDonogh 35
Skinny: Frank Wilson has made his stops by McDonogh 35 over the last two weeks and the staff still feels like Taylor is still a possibility. Texas and TCU are two others to watch, but expect Taylor’s recruitment to pick up more now that his senior season is wrapped up.
*** DE Sci Martin (6-3/220) When looking at in-state guys who could jump on board in the month of January, Martin is right there near the top of the list of possibilities despite the pledge he made to TCU on Wednesday. Ed Orgeron loves his pass-rushing ability, and if things fall off completely with Brian Burns then look for LSU to turn up the heat and for Martin to be receptive.
*** DE Travez Moore (6-3/240) Bastrop (La.)
Skinny: Academics continue to be the major concern when it comes to Moore. He wants to be a Tiger, but as of now, it looks like junior college is the most likely destination.
*** DT D’Andre Christmas-Giles (6-3/290) New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine
Skinny: LSU is starting to show more and more interest, and this could be one to watch in January. Texas is getting an official this weekend from the Tennessee commit and LSU will likely bring him in during the month of January depending on what happens with other guys on the board.
**** DT Briston Guidry (6-2/290) Metairie (La.) Rummel
Skinny: Guidry has been pretty firm with his pledge to Arkansas and right now there are still some hard feelings over LSU offering several other in-state tackles earlier in the process. Things can change, but should LSU crank up the heat, there is a lot of work to do.
[h=2]Linebackers[/h]

Needs: 4-5; Commitments: 3Top Targets
**** DE Rahssan Thornton (6-3/225) Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker
Skinny: Les Miles made his in-home with Thornton on Tuesday and the Tigers are in very good shape to hold on to his pledge. An official visit will come in January and that is the only one he intends to take as of now.
**** DE Erick Fowler (6-1/232) Manor (Texas)
Skinny: Texas has not let off in its pursuit of Fowler and LSU has kept the heat on with Bradley Dale Peveto checking in on the LSU commit every chance he gets. LSU will get an official visit in January, and Texas is expected to get one as well. This is one that Tiger fans will have to sweat all the way to the end. But as of now, Fowler and sources familiar with his recruitment maintain he is solid.
**** OLB Michael Divinity (6-2/218) Marrero (La.) John Ehret
Skinny: The good news for LSU is that Divinity plays in the state title game on Saturday, so he will not be taking any visits the final weekend before the dead period kicks in. As of now, Divinity plans on enrolling early at LSU and he is a huge need for this class.
**** OLB Jeffrey McCulloch (6-3/230) Houston (Texas) Aldine
Skinny: An official to Texas A&M is on tap for this weekend, and barring some sudden change, the Tigers aren’t serious players on this front.
***** LB Ben Davis (6-3/240) Gordo (Ala.) Gordo School
Skinny: The worst thing that could have happened to LSU was Kirby Smart going to Georgia because now Davis can carve his own path and get out of his father’s shadow and still have familiar faces from all the time he has spent at Alabama. Georgia currently leads Bama with LSU still lurking in the shadows.
***** LB Lyndell Wilson (6-2/220) Montgomery (Ala.) Carver
Skinny: Wilson still mentions LSU to some, but the Tigers are merely a hat on the table at this stage of the game. That is not expected to change either.
**** LB Dontavious Jackson (6-2/239) Houston (Texas) Alief Elsik
Skinny: Jackson has two official visits left and do not be surprised if Georgia gets one and Texas gets the other. As it stands, LSU does not have a date ironed out for an official. Bradley Dale Peveto was in the Jackson home on Wednesday, so the Tigers are not throwing in the towel.
**** LB Rahshaun Smith (6-2/240) Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Skinny: Maryland and Clemson have emerged as the schools to beat. With Smith being an early enrollee and not getting his parents to Baton Rouge for a visit, this ship is sailing away from the Tigers and the staff seems okay with that.
**** LB Jaleel Laguins (6-2/213) Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County
Skinny: Laguins committed to Georgia in August, but with the recent coaching change, the four-star prospect out of the Peach State is taking one more look around before settling in on a final decision. Laguins will arrive in Baton Rouge on Friday and depart on Sunday. The Tigers, who need linebackers in this class, consider Laguins a definite take.
[h=2]Defensive Backs[/h]

Needs: 6-7; Commitments: 4Top Targets
***** CB Saivion Smith (6-1/175) Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Skinny: The biggest question facing Smith was whether he would be able to enroll early and right now that is the plan for the Tiger commit as he is solid with his pledge. Smith’s father told us that the plan is to move to Baton Rouge a few days after the Under Armour game.
***** S Eric Monroe (6-0/180) Houston (Texas) North Shore
Skinny: Texas A&M has always been LSU’s biggest threat and right now the Aggies are not much of one as interest on their end seems to be fading. That could change, but even if Monroe visits Aggie land, he says it would take something special to get him away from LSU, and that goes for any school.
**** S Cameron Lewis (6-1/192) Monroe (La.) Wossman
Skinny: Lewis still has a Teas A&M official on his plate in January, but LSU has made him a priority for many months now and continues to do so. His pledge to the Tigers seem to be on solid footing heading into the dead period.
**** CB Andraez Williams (6-2/170) Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist
Skinny: Corey Raymond was in-home on Monday and the staff feels very good about the strength of Greedy’s pledge. An official to Texas A&M is slated for January, but word is that could get canceled.
**** CB Kristian Fulton (6-0/180) Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel
Skinny: Fulton has had a slew of coaches visit him this week from Florida to Ole Miss to Mississippi State. Frank Wilson was in-home on Tuesday and sources say the meeting went great. Florida could make things a little more interesting, but the feeling here is that LSU is still in good shape.
**** CB Trayvon Mullen (6-2/172) Pompano Beach (Fla.) Coconut Creek
Skinny: There have been several twists and turns in Mullen’s recruitment, and after an in-home from LSU last week the staff feels as good as ever on Mullen. This is another one where there will likely be more twists leading up to signing day. However, if things stay on the path and LSU gets that final official visit the last weekend in January then my pick will likely rest with the Tigers come signing day.
**** S Deontay Anderson (6-1/192) Manvel (Texas)
Skinny: Ole Miss is the team to beat and the margin gets wider as time goes by. LSU has not backed off, but the Tigers will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat as things currently stand.
**** S Nigel Warrior (5-11/188) Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge
Skinny: Corey Raymond was set to visit Warrior on Wednesday, and the Tigers had some ground to make up to become a legitimate threat. All eyes are on the month of January and whether Warrior shows up for an official visit.
**** CB JoeJuan Williams (6-2/195) Hendersonville (Tenn.)
Skinny: Williams is slated to visit LSU this weekend, but unless things change the board is too stacked for him to make it in this class.
**** CB Kyle Meyers (6-0/170) New Orleans (La.) Holy Cross
Skinny: LSU has remained in contact with Meyers, but the sticking point is the Tigers are thin on numbers with Kristian Fulton and Trayvon Mullen on the board. Should something fall through then LSU could make a mad dash at the FSU commit. However, that may be too little too late.
**** S Chanse Sylvie (6-0/185) Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist
Skinny: Sylvie committed to Oklahoma in late July and is teammates with Greedy Williams. LSU has not shown a ton of interest, but that could change if things continue to fade with Deontay Anderson. As for talent, some feel that Sylvie has the most upside of any defensive back in the state.
[h=2]Specialists[/h]

Needs: 1; Commitments: 1Top Targets
*** K Connor Culp (5-10/195) Phoenix (Ariz.) Desert Vista
Skinny: Culp surprised many when he committed to the Tigers. Bradley Dale Peveto is excited about his pledge and it appears to be a solid one at this stage of the game.

Eason is down to Florida and UGA

If he goes Florida you have to think Franks flips back to LSU

There's this, Dwight...

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/examining-floridas-qb-situation-for-2016-help-is-on-the-way

Franks is not worried about Eason or the potential of a stacked quarterback depth chart.
“Competition, I’ve been around it my whole life. I wouldn’t even know how to live without it,” he said.
Franks and Trask have both signed their early enrollment paperwork with the Gators, and they sent Eason home with his at the end of his visit. He plans to make a final decision between Florida and UGA next week.

I think Eason sticks with UGA. Think he wanted to visit another school just to have a plan B, but he's been pretty solid on Athens and from all the "talk" he and Kirby Smart had a good visit earlier in the week.

We'll see about Eason, but either way, sounds like Franks is staying a Gator.

While LSU’s recruiting class is currently full of star power and ranked very highly, it does not include any quarterback, and that is a major concern. As most of you know too well, LSU had a commitment from four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks until about a month ago when he de-committed and flipped to Florida. According to reports, Coach Cam Cameron visited Franks last week and went back to see him again last night. Based on everything I’ve heard, including Frank’s own comments on the matter in this recent video by SECCountry, it seems like Frank’s commitment to Florida is solid and that the ship has sailed for LSU. In the video, Franks reaffirms his commitment to the Gators and insists that he will not be flipping again, even though Florida is also heavily pursuing and gaining ground on the nation’s No. 1 quarterback, Jason Eason.
A lot of you have asked me if there are any other quarterback on LSU’s radar and the answer is yes. The newest name to surface is Tylin Oden, a 6-5, 190-pound quarterback out of Columbia, Tennessee who plays both football and basketball for Springhill High School. Oden has been committed to Louisville for a long time, but according to scout.com he’s been gaining interest from LSU and Ohio State after Louisville picked up a commitment from a higher ranked quarterback, Jawon Pass, in July. Here are Oden’s video highlights. Open does not yet hold an offer from LSU. There are seven quarterbacks that do hold offers from LSU, but all are currently committed to other schools. These include several we’ve mentioned before on this site, like Franks, Shea Patterson, and Dwayne Haskins, as well as Brandon Peters, Jarrett Guarantano, Avery McCall and the aforementioned Louisville commit, Avery McCall.

We are finally getting down to the end of the road with Feleipe Franks, and while the writing seems to be on the wall, I get the feeling that today at about 4:30-5:30 p.m., we will either see a major shakeup or Cam Cameron officially move on.
Here’s the skinny.
LSU saw the door open with the Jacob Eason visit to Florida, but it didn’t open very wide. Cameron and Les Miles went in-home last week, but were not able to make a ton of headway. Cameron went in-home again this week, and while the visit went well, I haven’t been told by anyone that there was any reason to feel optimistic.
But because Cameron wanted to see this one through to the end, they let the Franks family know that they would have a hotel room saved for them this weekend and a plan laid out if Feleipe decides he wants to make his official visit to LSU before the dead period begins on Monday.
At the same time, Jim McElwain and Doug Nussmeier at Florida did not go in-home with Franks this past week, instead saving the visit for his state title game today at 12 p.m. CT. They will be in attendance for that, then they hope to transport Franks to Gainesville to begin his official visit.
I’ve got my ear to the ground with a number of different people, and I don’t see LSU being able to pull this off. Cameron’s hope is that Franks leaves his game without the UF staff and makes the trip to Baton Rouge, but those chances are looking very slim.
So back to the 4:30-5:00 p.m. comment. The game will take a few hours to complete, then both teams are presented with medals, then interviews are done, etc. So by about 4:30-5:00, Franks will be leaving the stadium. Will he hop in the car with the Florida staff and go to Gainesville, or does he completely change his tone, back off that trip and leave for LSU? We’ve got Luke Stampini from our Florida site down there at his game today, and Luke will provide us with updates. He’s going to interview Franks afterwards and then keep an eye out for him leaving with the UF staff. Once he confirms where Franks is headed, we will be able to officially put to bed the Franks stuff (unless he goes to LSU this weekend, of course).
My prediction stands that he will be visiting Florida this weekend. With Eason also visiting UGA this weekend, and rumors out there that they could announce the new offensive coordinator while he’s in town with his family, I could see Eason reaffirming his commitment to Georgia by Sunday and Franks doing the same with Florida after a weekend stay there and the knowledge that Eason won’t be a Gator.
Stay tuned this afternoon. I’ll provide some live updates after the title game as this one plays out. We are inching closer to Cameron finally moving past Franks and on to other QB’s in this 2016 class.

Looks like Ohio St loses a kid to Oregon.....seems the kid decided against playing QB in CFB.....sounds like it was expected.

LSU and BAMA still fightin for Neville DT Rash Lawrence, but Ohio St maybe in the mix? JOB/Steed, real chance?

Tenny loses 3 star DT Christmas-Giles.....seems like LSU and Texas are leading now.......kid is a rising DT and better than the 3 stars it seems with over 30 scholly offers.

Tulane jumps in the mix and offers Lindsey, the LA native and Cuse commit........wish LSU would get in the mix. Scrappy winner...

also UGA guys, is LSU a threat to Jaleel Laguins?

I feel LSU will scoop some LBs as we can offer early playing time, pissing off some schools that have had kids committed/heavy leans for a while....

5 start DT Dexter Lawrence (6'4 340) has committed to Clemson. #2 player in the country on Rivals

Still a LONG way to go with this one but the #1 QB for 2017, Hunter Johnson, just flipped from TN to Clemson

good grab

Is this all done?

Hard to say til he steps foot on campus but it was between Clemson and the local team, NC State. This was the first time he committed to a school and he's set to enroll in January so it should be done

It is done then.

Also the biggest news for Florida was the Nations #1 kicker, Piniero, decomitted from Bama. Going to switch to Florida which is major news.

You may laugh at the strings pulled, but make no mistake about this not being a good pick-up. Outside of the GT game, Aguayo has been team MAP in Tallahassee two years running.

Thankfully Adam Griffith got healthy and started making kicks. Softens the loss of Piniero. Though he's only kicked against a live rush a handful of times. Massive leg but a little of an unknown as to how he'll handle live game action. Has to be better than the dentist though

The Tigers lack depth at the position. They are looking to change that on the recruiting trail, but there have been many detours along the way. With only a couple of months until National Signing Day, they do not have much time to waste.
The state of Louisiana has a lot to offer in the form of SEC caliber defensive linemen this cycle, but many of the defensive tackles have situations that may threaten their collegiate eligibility. Neville's Rashard Lawrence is on solid ground both academically and on the football field, but LSU is locked in a heated recruiting battle with Alabama, although it does appear that the Tigers have taken the lead once again. As it stands now, he appears to be the only likely signee on this list.
LSU defensive tackle commitment Ed Alexander is solid in his commitment to the Tigers, but whether he qualifies or not will not be determined until very late in the school year. As you will soon see, this issue faces the Tigers will numerous prospects.
New Jersey defensive lineman Rashan Gary is perhaps the best prospect in the country, and LSU recruited him as such, but the Tigers lost most of the momentum they had conjured up over the summer months. They will still make a push. If they can get him on campus for a visit on the weekend before National Signing Day it could be the shot in the arm needed to close out strong with arguably the nation's best prospect.
Florida's Shavar Manuel was all but done with his recruitment. He was extremely close to ending things after a visit to LSU in October, but things abruptly changed and now it appears that he will be signing with Florida. He has struggled to regain the form that once had him rated as a five-star athlete since suffering a knee injury last year. The level of interest from both sides appears to have faded quite a bit, with LSU turning its focus on other prospects.
The Tigers extended an offer to St. Augustine defensive tackle D'Andre Christmas-Giles on Friday, leading to a decommitment from Tennessee on Sunday. The 6-3, 290-pounder had a great senior season, but it was his first game action in years, after missing his sophomore and junior seasons. Sources at LSU feel they are in a good position to land the rising prospect, and they may, but with only one year of competitive high school football under his belt the small sampling is a bit concerning.
Texas defensive tackle Ross Blacklock is someone LSU feels could be the run-stuffing plug they need, but he too has academic issues that may jeopardize his ability to enroll as a full qualifier. The Tigers did a good job recruiting Blacklock early on in the process, but the concerns regarding his academic standing have complicated things. There is still contact between the two parties, so this ship has not sailed, yet.
Alabama commitment Raekwon Davis is still being heavily courted by the Tigers, but, you guessed it, there are some concerns regarding his academic standing. LSU has a reasonable chance landing a commitment from Davis at some point, but that would only be the first battle to get him on campus.
Tennessee defensive lineman Emmitt Gooden is viewed as a five-technique defensive end by the LSU staff, but he could slide inside as well. It is not his ability to play that raises concerns. It is his grades. LSU has courted him, stayed in touch throughout much of the process, but his academic situation is troubling.
There are a lot of names on the board, but each of them carries a level of uncertainty with them that is unsettling for LSU. This is an area of need in this class and not addressing those needs could set the defense back for years to come.

article on the DT situation....kinda scary

Edwin Alexander would be very very disappointing to lose to grades

sometimes grades are pretty telling tho....Travonte Valentine seems to have had talent and now seems to be a problem.....point is, like we all know, you just never can tell always....some you know, but most you don't

Rahshaun Smith and Diondre Overton are both silents to us (Clemson). Pushing hard to get an official from Gary, if we do things could get very interesting.

2017 is where we are going to get the most benefit from this season.

I'd be shocked to see yall get Gary.

At one point I thought Saivion was working Smith hard for LSU.....it seems both have lost interest. I like that kid tho.

Glad you came by. Please post more here.

Michael Divinity decommits from LSU.....A SERIOUS need a LB

some say it is he just wants a show at school, but never a good sign not calling coaches 1st...

between LSU and TAMU
