Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

Add Michigan State to the schools looking for a coach. So now Mich State is paying two ex-coaches while having to pony up for a new one

Maybe Smith will go back to Oregon State. He shouldn't have left that job for Michigan State in the first place.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think that previous Michigan state coach was fired for cause and they didn't have to pay him.

Michigan State needs to hire a guy like Mark Stoops who can deal with never getting top talent and a good enough coach to always make them a physical team that brings it ever week

Midnight Mel. Sexual harassment for cause but he’s fighting it. Naturally.

That was a big part of the stupidity with these contracts that doesn’t get talked about enough.
He was 16-14 record or some shit like that and I’m guessing Sexton used him (I think LsU was in the shit at the time, ironically) during another coach arms race.

These schools are run by idiots paying the money they do with enormous buyouts to these coaches most of whom show how bad they are and are fired within a few seasons.

5 minute interview with him by marty smith right at the airport is worth watching imo. He says he never gave his coaches an ultimatum that they had to join him today "or else".

I'm not saying I believe him either way. I'm just saying he has a side to the story. I wonder if Ole miss AD would retort and counter the story. Probably better for OM to stay quiet and not get into pissing match with him:

Kiffin handled this poorly for sure

However ….Someone said it perfect earlier..

Ole Miss didn’t make kiffin

He made ole miss

The 30 years prior to Kiffin as HC, ole miss had 2 seasons w 10 wins

Kiffin had 10 wins his last 4/5 seasons

Lane looks rough. Did he fall off the wagon and start hitting the sauce on the flight to BR? He’s been under a lot of stress lately. We will see how this all plays out. I am wondering how the post game pleasantries will go with Golding after the game in Oxford next year. See below

According to team insiders: The Lane Kiffin story continues to develop with former Defensive Coordinator and new Head Coach, Pete Golding pushing back and calling Lane Kiffin out where the two had to be separated in a closed meeting this Wednesday with Golding ready to punch Kiffin in the face. Golding said, “Fuck your ego, I’m staying for the team to finish what we started.” Apparently things were already in motion even before the Egg Bowl.

It’s almost like something changed in the NIL/portal era huh? What was Kiffin’s record at Tennessee, USC, Oakland, and FAU again?

Ole Miss fans being pissy at Kiffin for whatever reason makes college football reckless. Enjoy that you became relevant for a minute.

He looks like he’s aged 5 years in a month.

So you basically just admitted that KJ was right. Would have been best not to respond…let‘s be above mud-slinging?
“Would” is often used in hypotheticals or conditional statements. Here’s an example - Had I valued your opinion, I would have asked for it. So when someone says “X would have been” it’s not a reference to what exists but what might have existed. See how that works?

Yes, I see: when someone says something negative about Ole Miss you get all defensive and try to cloud your emotion with logic. I‘m just saying that there are better ways of dealing with your emotions, brother

Weedeater Bowl was an insane time. Alamo Bowl was a blast because San Antonio is a blast. Couldn't even go the the Fiesta Bowl because while it was 20 minutes from me, it was the Covid year.

Best time ever was Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Not because we won, but because I experienced one of the coolest cities on the planet. THAT's exaxtly what college football does for me. Sorry for your loss.

Yes when someone says something negative about Ole Miss, which is completely unrelated to the topic, I respond negatively. I concede that much. Telling Ole Miss fans to enjoy being relevant for a minute isn’t an attempt to actually discuss anything. It’s trolling and it will be met with an appropriate response.

See you're just mad. Being relevant for a minute is pretty cool.

Bro, things were in motion the evening of Sunday 10/26 when LSU fired B Kelly.

LK was LSU's targe from the word go.

You guys had just won by 8 in Norman against my Sooners and from my vantage point it was clear that you guys were just better across the board and better coached. Your speed was incredible. After that game, I texted a bunch of buddies and said this is a Top 5 team in the country, bar none.

However, had you guys lost a 2nd game in your last four game run, you would have been out of the CFP running due to the lower SOS with OOC Georgia State, Wazzu and The Citadel.

The only reason this whole thing became "a thing" is because you guys are playoff bound. If not for that, LK is gone weeks ago and you guys hire someone like Golesh, etc. PG does not get promoted to the HC job without you guys in the playoff.

Now you've got your whole staff in place less LK and you guys have a real chance to go deep in the 'offs.

Considering that the worst kept secret the last 5 weeks is that LK is going to LSU, you guys are in a pretty good place right now and lots of time to refocus with your staff and get your gameplans going.

It's good Bama won last night to give you another week off to circle the wagons.

I think this turned out pretty well though it looked pretty grim during the ordeal.

Do you agree? Do you feel better or do you feel worse? Or about the same?

I'm just putting myself in your shoes and I feel like it would be the best-case scenario considering all your fanbase has gone through.

This has gotten a little sticky

Do people really live their lives according to their college football team's success? Man I need to move to Ohio.

Can break that down too

OSU fans live and die by the Michigan game. Michigan fans can still hang out and have a helluva day regardless the result. We get it all in this place, no one is from here so every rivalry game has insane attendance at the bars. Can't recall one where someone got pissy because their team lost.

That's what everyone said to Utah when Urban left. We've been just fine.

Also, Miss fans don't really want snarky comments about their program right now. Maybe try not to rattle their cage?

I did just fine when Chizik left for Auburn lol

We are what we are. Fella attacks me for being all things ISU, I got something up my sleeve.

You wouldn't like it, over 200 cloudy days. Me, I love cloudy days!

This is the only place we "see" eachother so it's going to seem that whatever we are talking about is what our lives revolve around, well, mine do revolve around football actually, but pretty sure everyone has real lives that don't involve football. We just don't read about it much on here like we do read it from you, like what you are hungry for or what sequence of events are happening in your home :D

I disagree with almost everything you said. I just think you are grossly misinformed bud. Kiffin had not made up his mind to leave for LSU in late October. Simply not true. They didn’t even engage his agent until the week before the Florida game.

Also your logic about us being out of the CFP with 2 losses is just WRONG. If that’s the case how are YOUR Sooners in at 10-2 with wins over bottom feeding turds Illinois St, Temple, and Kent St when we would be sitting at 10-2 having beaten you at home head to head. Does not make sense.

Thirdly, we were not well coached in that Oklahoma game. I don’t know what game you were watching but Kiffin made multiple egregious mistakes. He put our backup quarterback Simmons in cold off the bench for two crucial red zone throws that sailed over the open receivers head both times. Why? Because Lane thinks he’s fucking smarter than everyone else. Stupid! Also he went for it on 4 and 1 up 9 points from his own 25 in the 3rd quarter and the direct snap to the running back goes over his head setting the Sooners up in the red zone. Luckily OU only got a field goal but still an asinine decision. Ole Miss may be fast and have good players but Venables is a much better in-game coach. Ole Miss should’ve won that game by at least 3 touchdowns if not for Kiffin’s bullshit in game decisions. The couple sitting next to me (OU fans) left early in the 3rd quarter saying that the OU offense was terrible and they were going to get blown out. I told them we don’t finish games well - you ought to stay and low and behold, OU has the ball with a chance to tie at the end.

I feel fine about our situation provided that the committee doesn’t screw us over. There’s no effing way we should be below OU, Notre Dame, or Bama this week but they will probably find a way to screw us. Golding is a better choice than Golesh and Silverfield IMO. He was good enough to be the DC at Bama and won a Natty there as a coordinator. Would’ve liked to have a shot at Sumrall though. We will see if Golding can work the portal and evaluate talent (Lane was good at that but not much else). He’s done a good job as the DC and the defense would run through a wall for him.

I'd rather watch Ole Miss destroy Memphis in a bowl game than watch them lose by 30 in the ridiculous playoff tournament.

In last week's CFP ranking, ND and Miami had identical 9-2 records and Miami beat them head to head. Yet ND was ranked higher.

SOS and SOR means a ton to the CFP committee.

OU played and beat 9-3 michigan by DD.

Ole Miss played no one in nonconf.

The SOS and SOR between OU and Ole Miss is no comparison. OU's is way stronger.

Re LSU interest in Lane, it was clear to many people who live, eat and breathe college football, that Lane was their one and only target from the getgo when BK got beaten by A&M like a dog at home on 10/25.

It was over for him.

Guarantee you that LSU's people got in touch with Lane's people (his agent is not hard to find) no later than Monday 10/27.
Someone in this thread said Lane had 40 days to decide but gave his assistants 1 hour (Lane is disputing the claim he gave an ultimatum to his assistants) but tonight marks 34 days since Kelly was canned.

Everyone knew where this was going.
