Goodbye to Romance College Football
Saturday: early - to - late games

UConn won their first game since October 2019 ending an 11 game losing streak. Huskies led 14-0 HT and 21-0, after that their O went away and Yale started to come back with a FG, then TD (2pt no good) for a 21-9 game end of 3rd. Yale scored on 60y TD pass to make it 21-15 (2pt no good). With under 3min left, Yale started moving it, converted 4th-11 and got as far as UC30, but their 4th down pass into the EZ was incomplete. UConn only outgained them 318-299 (4.5-3.7) and only outrushed them 119-108 (3.1-4.0). Yale opened as a 2pt fav and was bet up to 3.5

Oklahoma State outgained Texas 398-317 (4.0-5.3), but had to settle for FGs inside the UT 10 yard line 3x, including twice inside the UT 5 yardline. Texas led 17-3 2nd Q, when OSU got an 85y pick-six. Texas later would lead 24-13 before OSU scored the game’s final 19 points. Texas’ final 6 possessions netted just 14 yards on 17 plays (4 punts, SOD and INT).

Missouri threw INTs on two of their first 4 possessions and Texas A&M would lead 21-0. From there the game would bounce back between a 2 to 3 score game throughout. A&M missed two FGs. Each team threw 2 INTs. A&M outgained them 431-328 (6.4-4.5) and outrushed them 283-98 (6.7-3.3).

Auburn led all but 5 minutes at Arkansas with leads and margins of 14-3, 28-17 and the final of 38-23. Ark outgained them 460-427 (5.2-7.0). Hogs missed FG, were SOD at Aub18, Aub 29 and Aub 39 yard lines. Tigers had a fumble recovery in the EZ for TD. Auburn D 3 sacks, Ark 0.

LSU had rushed for 500 yards in 6 games this season before their 321y (7.13) on Florida! Tyrion Davis-Price ran for a school record 287y on 36att (previous record 285). Florida would lead briefly 6-0 (xpt blk’d), but after LSU made it 7-6 early 2nd Q, Gators would never lead again although they would tie twice in the 2nd H. LSU led 21-13 HT then 28-13 after a pick-six to open the 3rd Q, but Gators would tie at 35-35 and 42-42. LSU ran on 23 of their final 25 plays to win 49-42. UF outgained them 488-454 (6.5-6.6), but Gators threw 4 INTs, two apiece by Richardson and Jones, 3 of those INTs resulted in two short field TD drives for LSU and a pick-six. The 4th ended the game with 2min left.

Northwestern led 7-0 on a 64y TD pass, then Rutgers tied it 7-7. NW would lead 14-7 HT. Rut missed a FG and NW added another TD for the 21-7 win. NW outgained them 402-222 (5.0-3.4) with a 135-63 RY edge (2.8-1.9). NW D accounted for 11 TFLs including 4 sacks. Both teams were just 5-of-17 3rd down, NW was 1-of-3 4th down. Rut 0-2. Hillinski 18-33-267-2-0.

Two Indiana INTs handed Michigan State a pick-six and a short field possession for their only 2 TDs of the day for the 20-15 win. In addition to that, when IU did move the ball, they stalled in the RZ, having to kick FGs from the M06 and M07 yard lines. IU limited MSU to just 241 TY (3.9)(less than half their ssn avg) while Hoosiers put up 322 of their own (3.7). IU outrushed them 134-100 (3.7-2.9) holding Walker to just 84y (3.7). Neither QB was great, Tuttle started for Penix and Tuttle would pass just 28-52-188-0-2. Thorne 14-26-126-0-2.

Minnesota scored on every real possession of the 1st H. Nebraska went 3-and-out twice, punted a total of 3x. Gophers led 21-9 HT (Neb missed xpt). Min threw back-to-back INTs to open the 3rd Q and Nebraska outscored them 14-9 in the 2nd H, but a score they didn’t get was the difference. Mid 3rd Q, Neb had 4-1 at the M01, but the RB stumbled with the ball and fell/tackled short of the goal line (Neb 0-for-2 4th down in game). Min outgained them 396-377 (5.8-5.9). Neb outrushed them 182-136 (4.4-4.2).

Tulsa never led until inside the final minute to get a 32-31 win at USF. USF did build their lead with a KO ret TD and a 69y pick-six and led by 11 late 3rd Q. Tulsa cut it to 5, but had to punt with 6:33 left. USF ran the same direct snap play on 3rd-1 and 4th-1 at the SF42, both were stuffed and Tulsa took that possession, converted a 4th-3 and scored the go-ahead TD with just :42 left for their first lead of the game. Tulsa did have 31-13 FD, 535-268 TY (6.1-4.7) and 269-113 RY (5.5-3.6) edges. Tulsa kicked two short FGs and USF had a short field TD following a fumble recovery.

Cincinnati scored TDs on 5 of 7 1st H possessions while UCF went 3-and-out 7 of 9 1st H possessions. 35-7 HT, 42-7 after a pick-six. 42-14, 49-14, 56-14, 56-21 F. UC outgained them 476-296 (7.3-4.6) and outrushed them 336-155 (8.0-4.2). UC was 7-of-12 3rd down. Gatewood did play for UCF, but did not attempt a pass. Keene 16-27-141-1-2. Ridder 13-23-140-1-0, 14y rushing. Ford 20-189-4TD, 1rec 23y.

Virginia has won 7 straight vs Duke, this one a resounding 48-0 win. It was UVA’s first ACC shutout since 2008. It was 34-0 HT. UVA outgained them 528-325 (6.7-4.0). UVA actually outrushed them 164-110 (5.0-3.1). Duke was 7-of-17 3rd down and 2-of-4 4th down. UVA just 3-of-11. Duke had three RZ poss end in zero pts (missed FG, fumble, downs) and another SOD at V33.

Ohio would lead 7-0, then Buffalo was SOD at the O01 and Rodgers took a QB run around edge for 99y TD. Ohio would lead 21-0. UB started to comeback mid 2nd Q as OU O started to sputter. UB with a FG then TD. 21-10 HT. OU had long drive to open 3rd Q, but had TD called back by penalty and had to settle for FG then a bad snap on a UB punt made the score 26-10. Ohio would gain just 32y on their final 3 possessions while UB went for TDs 10p 80y and 7p 35y after a fumble recovery. 26-24. UB got it back at their own 5 yard line 6:19, Bulls used up all that time getting to O14 for a 4th down, time expiring FGA – it was missed! But Ohio jumped offside giving McNulty another chance from the O09 this one he made for the 27-26 win (Ohio was offside on that attempt too). Ohio gained 226y in the 1st Q, but just about 120y the rest of the game. UB outgained them 373-346 (5.3-6.5). Ohio did out rush them 271-112 (6.3-2.8) behind Rodgers 22att-183 (incl 99yarder). Rodgers passed just 6-10-75-0-0. Each team had 1 turnover, Buffalo’s didn’t cost them. Ohio’s led to short field TD for Bulls.

Northern Illinois racked up 319 RY (5.4) on 59att, but BGSU outgained them 396-357 (5.7-5.3). Lombardi only attempted 8 passes. McDonald was 16-41-235-0-1 and leading rusher for BG 6att-75y. NIU led 21-13 HT, but BG had a 177-167 yard edge. NIU started to pull away, but kicked tso RZ FGs to keep BG within range. Score was 34-16 early 4th Q. BG kicked FG, then NIU was SOD and BG took that for TD...34-26 late 4th. BG had the ball two more times but were SOD near midfield both times.

Toledo O did very little for most of 3 quarters and Central Michigan built a comfortable 20-3 lead. A 4th-3 conversion was key and with under 3min left in the 3rd Q, Toledo had their first TD...20-10. CM went 3-and-out and UT converted 4th down again and went on for FG...20-13 early 4th Q. CM again went 3-and-out, but UT got behind the chains and punted it back. CM found some O again and moved it for FG and extended lead to 23-13 mid 4th Q. UT kicked 50y FG and CM again went 3-and-out punting the ball back to UT with under 3min left. It only took Toledo 7 plays to go 71y for TD, they kicked xpt to tie 23-23 :35 left. In OT, CM made a FG, but UT had to kick a long one after a penalty and sack, they missed a 51 yarder. Rockets missed 3 of 5 FGA on the day. CM was 4-for-4. UT outgained them 350-332 (4.6-4.7) and outrushed them 142-128 (3.2-3.7). Both teams struggled on 3rd down but combined 4-of-5 4th down. CM D got SEVEN sacks and 11 TFLs total!

Western Michigan led 20-7, but Kent battled back. It was 23-14 late 1st H when Kent had to settle for a 21y FG as time expired to make it a 23-17 game. Kent St has struggled 2nd Q in many of their games this year and here WM outscored them 27-6 to turn the game into a blowout. Kent fumbled and went 3-and-out punt on their next 3 poss in the quarter while WM was on their way to scoring TDs on 5 straight. Game ended 64-31 with WM outgaining them 648-362 (8.9-5.3) and Broncos outrushed them 341-124 (6.7-3.6). Kent struggled on 3rd down, 3-for-15 and WM 5-for-12. WM D got 5 sacks and 12 total TFLs! WM WRs Moore and Hall each caught over 140y.

Miami Ohio scored on their first two poss to lead 14-0, they fumbled and Akron turned that short field opportunity into a 14-7 game. Miami would lead 21-7 HT. Miami scored 2 more TDs in the 3rd Q then missed a FG early in the 4th 34-7 (xpt blk’d on one of the TDs). Akron converted a 4th down and went on for a TD under 10min left...34-14. Miami had the ball back 2min left and was running clock, as it appeared the game would tick down, but Akron called timeout after 3rd down with :57 left. There was a Miami personal foul on the punt and Akron got a 1p 50y TD pass with just :31 left. Miami outgained them 474-356 (7.2-5.7) and outrushed them 245-65 (6.3-2.7). Akron was pretty good 3rd down 6-of-14, but Miami was 8-of-13. Miami clearly put the O to bed in the 4th Q as their final two poss netted just 12y, while Akron scored TDs on 2 of their final 3 (Akron 161 TY on their final 3 drives).

Texas State started slow on their first 3 drives (just 41y) while Troy built a 10-0 lead. It was 10-7, 17-7 and 17-14 HT, TY were 220-184 for Troy at the break. Troy was SOD, but TxSt fumbled it back and Troy extended to 24-14. TxSt answered...24-21 and then TxSt recovered an onside kick and would drive down for a 28-24 lead end of 3rd Q. TxSt would then throw INTs on 3 consecutive 4th Q poss, one a 33y pick-six to give Troy the lead and the final one essentially ended the game as Troy killed the final 6:26 ending the game at the TxSt08 taking knees. Troy outgained them 387-370 (5.8-5.2) and outrushed them 205-91 (5.1-2.3). TxSt -4 turnovers. Both teams converted 50% 3rd down. Troy D 4 sacks.

Colorado handed Arizona their first shutout since 2012 and haven't won a game since 10/5/19. Zona has lost it's 18th straight game. The game was 3-0, then 6-0 HT and until mid 3rd Q. At HT CU had a 251-132 TY edge. CU kicked FGs from the RZ while Arizona had just one good drive that ended SOD at C01. The dam broke mid-3rd Q as CU blk'd punt and ret'd for TD, next possession, CU got a 50y pick-six scoring two non-offensive TDs in just over 1min. Next CU possession they hit a 62y TD pass to Brenden Rice (Jerry's son) to blow the game wide open 27-0. Zona threw another INT early 4th Q, which CU drove for TD and the 34-0 F. Zona ended the game at the C20. CU outgained them 365-280 (6.3-4.0). Zona outrushed them 127-117 (4.1-3.0). CU QB Brendon Lewis passed for career high 248 (previous high 162) on 12-of-19 passing with 2 TDs. Broussard was limited to just 53y on 13att and Fontenot held to just 19y on 11att. Zona started QB Gunner Cruz, 13-22-82-0-1. He was replaced in the 4th Q by Will Plummer who went 7-17-71-0-1

Pitt outgained VT 411-224 (5.1-3.7) and even outrushed them 208-90 (4.7-3.2). That 224 was ssn low for VT O. It wasn't quite as easy as it looked however. Pitt did have a 15p 94y TD drive on their second possession and then got a short field 4p 29y TD drive after an INT. There were also 6 drives among those where Pitt O failed to move the ball, 5 they failed to gain a FD. Never-the-less Pitt led 21-0 HT and VT's O was so bad that fans were leaving before HT - VT gained just 4 FD the entire H. Pitt only scored one TD in the 2nd H, but did end their final drive SOD at the V16 with 2min left. Pitt was 7-of-19 3rd down (3-of-4 4th down), VT was just 4-of-14 (0-2 4th down). Pickett 22-37-203-2-0, 38y rushing with TD. Bumeister 11-32-134-1-1.

North Carolina and Miami was close early 7-0, 7-7 (Mia scored on pick-six), 14-7, 14-10 until the 2nd Q where UNC extended their lead to 28-10 and 31-17 after UNC capitalized on two short fields for 10pts following Miami INTs. Miami fought back in the 3rd Q and it was just 38-34 entering the 4th Q. Miami was SOD at NC42 and UNC enxtended the lead to 45-34. After an exchange of punts, Miami drove off their own 3 yard line for TD with a key 3rd-21 conversion along the way and made the score 45-42 just 3min left. Canes used all three timeouts and got it back with 2:46 and they moved it. Got down to the NC22 with a FD, but two passes later UNC INT'd a tipped pass with just :06 left to preserve the victory. Miami outgained them 421-382 (5.3-5.2) although UNC outrushed them 228-157 (4.8-4.6). Both teams were strong on 3rd down and both teams got pressure on QBs, although Miami was twice called for roughing the passer penalties on drives that resulted in 10 UNC points.

Baylor threw INT in the EZ to end a scoring threat in the 1st Q, their first INT of the year. BYU couldn't move the ball and Baylor got a FG out of the ensuing possession. They traded TDS and BYU missed a 50y FG. Baylor went up 17-7 then they recovered an onside kick but the possession came up empty with a 4th-1 SOD and it was 17-7 HT. BYU made it 17-14 on a 56y TD run early 3rd Q. Baylor went up 24-14. BYU was at the Bay33 when they were sacked/fumbled and Baylor would soon have a 31-14 lead late 3rd Q. BYU had to settle for FG and Baylor started to ice the game, rushing for 11 of the next 12 plays killing over 6min off the clock and ended in a TD for the 38-17 lead under 4min left. BYU was able to score but Baylor recovered their onside kick. 38-24 F. Baylor outgained them 534-409, but check the ypp where BYU actually had a 7.4-7.1 edge (55 to 75 plays). Baylor outrushed them 303-67 (6.4-2.8). Baylor D did get 5 sacks. Despite the pressure, Hall was good 22-31-342-1-0, 25y rushing with TD. Bohanon 18-28-231-1-1

Texas Tech led 41-0. Kansas scored TD with :52 left. TT fumbled the first play of the ensuing possession and KU quickly scored again for the 41-14 F. TT outgained them 438-273 (6.5-4.5) and outrushed them 244-145 (5.8-4.4). TT converted 9-of-11 3rd down.

I'll get more tomorrow

Ball State led 14-0, but Eastern Michigan would battle back to make it 17-14 HT. Ball St again went up by 2 scores 31-17 & 38-24 in the 4th Q, EM kept coming back. It was 38-31 when Ball St missed a FG with 2min left, but EM threw INT to end the game. It was EM's second INT of the game, their first created a short field FG for Ball St. Ball St missed two other FGs and outgained them 433-385 (5.7-5.1) and outrushed them 200-45 (5.0-1.3). Both teams were good on 3rd down, BSU converted 9-of-13! (EM 54%).

Fresno State got their first road shutout since 1974. It was the first time Wyoming had been shutout since 2010. Both defenses dominated. WYO outgained them 271-259 (4.3-3.6). Fresno's 259 TY are half of their season avg and their 17 pts are 22 below their scoring average. WYO was limited to just 128 RY (3.9), Fresno outrushed them with 163 (3.8). Pokes were slightly better on 3rd down 50% to Fresno's 41%. WYO was done in by 5 turnovers, Fresno capitalized on a 10p 41y TD drive after fumble recovery, 3p 6y TD "drive" after INT and 4p 3y "drive" for FG after INT. 10 points for Fresno on possessions they gained a total of 9 yards! Haener 15-28-96-2-0

WKU led 21-0 and 33-6 at end of 3rd Q. ODU got as close as 33-20 in the 4th Q before WKU scored the final 10pts for the 43-20 win. WKU outgained them 518-446 (6.4-5.7) and had a slight edge rushing 121-119 (4.5-3.2). ODU was hit with 13 penalties for 117y. WKU did struggle on 3rd down, just 3-of-14 (3-of-4 4th down). WKU D got 5 sacks (Malone and Ignont 4.5 TFLs). WKU did convert 2 of ODU's 3 turnovers into 10 pts.

UAB outgained Southern Miss 388-107 (6.3-2.1) with 223-75 RY (5.3-2.1 ypc). UAB had 20-9 FD edge. USM ran 6 plays in UAB territory on their opening drive of the game. They ran just one play the rest of the game in UAB territory.

Purdue flipped the script at Iowa, with Purdue D getting 4 INTs (3 INTs on final 3 drives) and Purdue O threw zero INTs and only fumbled once, which was at the end of a 85y drive where the receiver fumbled into the EZ trying to extend for TD. Purdue punted on their first possession but then scored on 4 straight, would've been 5 straight if they hadn't fumbled into EZ. Purdue outgained them 464-271 (6.1-4.4) and actually outrushed them 86-76 (2.6-2.5). Purdue D 4 sacks with 6 additional QBH and 8 total TFL. Purdue played all 3 QBs, O'Connell however threw all but 3 passes going 30-40-375-2-0. Bell 11rec-240-TD. Petras 17-32-195-0-4. Brohm is 4-1 vs Iowa.

Georgia built a 14-0 lead with Kentucky O struggling on their first 4 drives. Late 2nd Q, UK put together a 13p 75y TD drive. It was 14-7 at HT. As it did to start the game, UK O again failed to move the ball early 2nd H. It was 24-7 when UK had FG blk'd. UGA went up 30-7 early 4th Q (xpt no good). UK would go on an epic 22p 75y drive that consumed all but the final 11-1/2 minutes of the game. UK converted 4th down twice on the drive and called timeout with :07 left from the G01, Cats scored the next play, UGA blk'd xpt. 30-13 F. Kirby Smart had no problem with the timeout and trying to score - “Mark’s got a job to do. He’s trying to compete and score. I mean why not? That’s what he came here to do, win the game and score points. I respect that. They had a long drive there.” UGA outgained them 416-243 (8.9-3.5). 416-168 before UK's final drive. UGA only faced 3rd down 7x, but converted just 2 of them and did not attempt any 4th down. UK owned a 38-22 TOP edge. Bennett 14-20-250-3-0. Levis 32-42-192-2-0 (sacked 3x).

Vanderbilt almost had a breakthrough win, instead they suffered a heartbreaking loss. South Carolina went up 7-0, Vandy answered 7-3. An 82y TD pass made it 14-3. After that SC was held to just 33y with 3 punts and a fumble the rest of the 1st H. SC fumbled at their own 14 setting up a short field TD and Dores made it 14-10. In the 2nd H Vandy recovered another fumble and hit a 52y TD pass to take 17-14 lead late 3rd Q. SC missed a FG, then SC threw INT with just 5min left. Vandy had the ball at the SC48 and got to the SC25 and Cocks started using timeouts. Vandy had to settle for a FG from the SC10 to put them up 6 with 1:36. Zeb Noland came in for Doty and with Vandy rushing only 3, he completed 5-of-8 directing SC down the field and scored the go-ahead TD with :35 left and a 1pt win. SC outgained them 434-312 (6.5-5.2) but only outrushed them 117-106 (3.7-2.7). SC lost 4 turnovers (=17 Vandy pts), Vandy lost 2 (=0 SC pts). Mike Wright started for Vandy 11-21-206-1-1, 41y rushing. Doty 17-26-242-2-2.

UTSA had two pick-six scores as part of their 45-0 win over Rice. UTSA outgained them 403-102 (6.5-2.0) with a 22-8 FD edge and 261-66 RY (6.9-1.8) advantage. UTSA outgained them 224-7 in the 1st Q UTSA had 10 TFLs. Rice ran ONE play in UTSA territory, a screen pass that was INT'd.

ULM pulled off the largest numerical upset this season, beating Liberty as a 32/33 pt underdog (BG was +30/31 vs Min). ULM's win was the 7th upset by a 21+ pt dog this season of which ULM actually has two! They previously beat Troy as 23.5 pt home dog! It did not look good early as ULM trailed 0-14. Liberty did outgain them 227-148 at the half. Liberty was SOD LM32, SOD LM01 after blk'd ULM FG and long return, Liberty also threw FD INT at LM01 (ULM turned it back over and Lib scored first TD of game). ULM had an amazing 3rd Q. They opened the half with a TD drive, then ret'd an INT down to the L01 for a quick TD, got a 40y TD run then scored another TD to lead 28-14! ULM outgained them 204-10 in the 3rd Q!!! Liberty scored TD early 4th Q and after an exchange of punts Liberty scored another TD mid 4th Q to tie 28-28. With 4min left ULM had the ball at their own 7 yard line. They got a 33y gain on 3rd down plus a roughing passer call to move them to the L40. They weren't able to get much further but made a 53y FG with 1:44 left to lead 31-28! Liberty was sacked and then threw INT which ended the game. Liberty did outgain them 386-365 (5.0-5.1) and outrushed them 251-140 (5.1-3.0). Lots of sacks, Liberty D got 6 sacks (10 total TFLs), ULM got 4. Liberty did throw 3 INTs, ULM threw 1. Each team got one very short field TD out of the turnovers.

I'm still trying to get over the FLA game, that was an unmitigated disaster....LSU offensive line is mammoth which makes me wonder wtf is going on there with their previous inability to run? Coach O chasing too much pussy.....and not working with the kids? FLA front 7 on D was horrible in that game, easily blocked and poor tackling. I was under the mistaken impression they were fairly decent on D.

Alabama led 21-6 HT with a 46y TD pass, 40y pick-six and a 16p 93y TD drive. Miss St managed two FGs. Bama got 75 and 51 yard TD passes in the 3rd Q while Miss St kicked another FG. 35-9. 49-9 F. Bama outgained them 543-299 (7.9-4.0) with a 195 to -1 RY edge (4.8-(-.1)). Each team faced 16 3rd downs, Bama converted 12, MSU converted 7. Bama D 7 sacks (Will Anderson 4). MSU QB Rodgers was beat up but played the whole game 35-55-300-0-3. Young 20-28-348-4-0.

Tennessee led 9-7 after a safety and ensuing KO where the Vols started at the M49 and they took that for a TD. Outside of that Vols struggled to sustain drives in the 1st H. 24-12 HT Ole Miss with a 298-151 yard edge. Vols could get no closer than 5 points in the 2nd H. 24-19, 31-19, 31-26. Vols final two possessions went 8p 49y SOD M41 after a 4th-24 came up just short and 5p 39y after Joe Milton replaced an injured Hooker...Vols had a chance late, just missing a TD pass on their second to final play and Milton ran out of bounds with :00 on the final play. Miss outgained them 510-467 (5.0-5.9) and outrushed them 279-222 (4.5-4.4) behind Matt Corral's 195y on 30att! That is a lot of hits on top of the 5 sacks he took. Corral passed for 21-38-231-2-1. Hooker 17-26-233-1-0, also led his team in rushing, 23att-108-TD. LB Mark Robinson came to Ole Miss as a walkon RB, he led the team with 15 tkls including 5 TFL!

Colorado State held New Mexico to their second all-time worst output ever, just 76 yards! 76 yards, in the entire game!! First time starting QB CJ Montes (Terry Wilson injured) gave CSU some bulletin-board material saying he thought NM would be able to "move the ball and score at will" CSU players took notice and responded. It was a game where CSU just kind of slowly pulled away, they'd have a couple drives, then bog down a little, couple drives then bog down again. Was 13-7 HT with NM scoring on a punt ret TD. 23-7 end of 3rd and 36-7 F. CSU racked up 452 TY (5.6) and enjoyed good field position all night. They probably should've scored more points but as they have in other games, CSU did struggle in the RZ with just 2 TDs on 7 trips. David Baily (21-58-2TD) returned to action, as did WR Dante Wright (1-16). TE McBride continues to be the focal point of the passing game 7-135. Centeio is starting to stack a couple good games together in MWC play. The last 2 weeks he is 35-48-521-2-0 with 72y rushing.

UNLV RB Charles Williams ran for career high 221y, the first time a UNLV RB has exceeded 200y since 2013. The game moved Chuck-Wagon to second all-time in the UNLV rushing list. His performance wasn't enough though as Utah State scored the game winning TD with just :35 left. UNLV led 3-0 first and actually led 17-7 end of the 1st Q with Utah St fumbling at the LV01! But UNLV had to punt from their own EZ and USU started with good field position and was able to make it 17-14 which would be the HT score after USU was SOD at LV33 and missed a 52y FG to end the 1st H. USU outgained them 219-184 at the break. Each team scored TD to open the 3rd Q before exchanging punts. USU would miss another FG early 4th Q. More punts until USU D got an INT, but Aggies would miss their third FG under 10min to go still 24-21 UNLV lead (was UNLV's first lead after 3rd Q this year). But the Rebel O was struggling 2nd H (just 24y last 5 possessions of game) and kept giving USU the ball back. Starting QB Cameron Friel was knocked out late, but Justin Rodgers could do no better. With 2:46 left USU was at their own 40. They converted a 4th down and would score the go-ahead TD with :35 left 28-24 F. USU outgained them 440-330 (5.6-6.0) - Williams 67% of UNLV's offensive yards. UNLV outrushed them 219-142 (7.1-3.1). UNLV D did get 11 TFLs. USU was in the RZ 5x and only scored 14 pts. UNLV converted just 3-of-12 3rd downs. USU Savon Scarver tied NCAA record with his 7th career KO ret TD. Bonner 21-32-298-2-1. Friel 11-21-107-0-1. UNLV has lost 4 games by 7pts or less this year.

Air Force narrowly outgained Boise State 366-337 (5.4-5.5) behind 307 RY (4.9). As they have done all season, Boise struggled to run and only had 78 RY (3.1). The teams combined for 5 TDs on the first 6 possessions, then the defenses settled in for much of the game. Boise did have an empty possession with a SOD at the AF03, but AF followed that with a missed FG from the B13. Boise fumbled a punt and AF got a free FG out of it without gaining a FD to lead 24-14 late 4th. Boise drove for a FG and then actually recovered the onside kick with just :47 left, but Bachmeier threw an INT on the very next play ending any hopes at a comeback. Boise was 7-of-13 3rd down, AF was 7-of-15 and 2-for-2 4th down. AF owned a 37-23 TOP edge.

North Carolina State and Boston College was close 1st H, a 21pt 3rd Q for NCSt turned it into a blowout. Each team had one long TD drive and each team had one long drive for FG, NC St made their 27yarder and BC missed their 32yarder. A false start and a sack ended a good BC drive into NcSt terriroty. An NcSt drive into BC territory was ruined with an unsportsman like penalty. 10-7 HT. BC was punting to open the 3rd Q, the punter dropped the snap and NcSt scooped it up for a 34y TD return, BC threw an INT and NcSt drove for TD, BC punted and NcSt got a long catch and run TD to lead 31-7. BC was tackled for safety in EZ after being backed up from a punt in the 4th Q. 33-7 F. NCSt outgained them 381-291 (6.6-4.2) and outrushed them 130-97 (3.8-3.2). BC was just 1-of-4 4th down.

Iowa State’s Breece Hall busted a 75y TD run first play of game and ISU would never trail. Kansas State got it within 10-7, but ISU would maintain a two score game from about mid 2nd Q on. The quick score started it and then ISU sustained long drives, once for over 7min and another for over 10min to own a 34-26 TOP edge while the K St O was inconsistent. ISU did have four drives stall between the K26-23 yardlines (similar to the Baylor game). ISU made all 4 FGs and built 20-7 and 30-13 leads. K St gained 216 of their yards on the final 3 drives of the game. ISU outgained them 418-342 (7.0-6.1) and outrushed them 210-136 (6.0-4.1). Hall ran for career high 197y on 30att. K St did miss a FG and xpt. 33-20 F.

TCU slightly outgained Oklahoma 529-525 (7.9-9.1). OU scored on 7 of their first 9 possessions with a punt and missed FG being the others. TCU moved it well at times, but couldn’t finish enough of their drives to hang in there, Frogs were SOD at O30 and kicked FG from the O04 then ended the game at the O37. Was 24-14 HT and OU got ahead of the spread in the 3rd 31-14, 31-21, 38-21, 38-24, 45-24, 45-31, 52-31 F. OU outrushed them 230-183 (6.6-4.9). OU only faced nine 3rd downs, converting 4. TCU was 7-of-14. Caleb Williams first start 18-23-295-4-0, 66y rushing with TD. Kennedy Brooks 20-153-TD. Duggan 20-30-346-4-0, 45y rushing. RB Evans DNP, RB Miller was in and out of game. TCU WR Quentin Johnston feasted on his matchup and caught 7-185-3TD!

Stanford led 13-0 after scoring on their first three possessions. Borghi broke a 25y run to spark Washington State and WSU would go on to make it 13-7 and Coug D responded clamping down on Stanford O. It was 13-13 (WSU xpt blk’d) when WSU was SOD at S09, but then Stanford fumbled next play and WSU would make it 20-13 late 1st H. Stan drove for late FG, 20-16 HT. WSU was SOD at the S23, but later went up 27-16, Stan answered with 2pt conv 27-24 early 4th Q. Stan would then take a 31-27 lead mid 4th Q. WSU had to punt. Stan had ball 6:27 left and WSU started using timeouts and forced a punt with 3:26. A 41y pass started the drive and WSU would go down to take 34-31 lead 1:23 left. Stan was sacked on 2 of their next 3 plays, fumbling on the last one to end the game. WSU had a 389-349 TY edge (6.8-5.2) and outrushed them 100-76 (3.7-2.2). WSU only converted 30% 3rd down, Stan 38%. WSU D 4 sacks. 2 RZ FGs for Stanford on 4 RZ trips hurt. McKee 23-32-273-2-0, 12y rushing with TD. de Laura 17-30-289-3-0.

Washington scored first as they have done in other games this year, and then that was about it for a while. 12p 74y for a 3-0 lead before UCLA built a 17-3 lead. 17-10 HT after UCLA missed FG, Bruins owned a 250-148 TY edge at the break. Washington did tie it 17-17 in the 3rd, but UCLA had a long 13p 90y 4th Q drive for the 24-17 lead. UW was at midfield on FD, but underthrew a deep pass that UCLA INT’d with 5min left to end the game. UW O actually ended their first drive and last drive of the game with INTs. UCLA outgained them 420-267 (6.3-4.4) and outrushed them 237-83 (5.9-2.7). Charbonnet 21-131. DTR 21-26-183-2-0, 87y rushing with TD. UCLA did struggle on 3rd down just 3-of-14 (UW 9-of-14).

In the 1st H Arizona State outgained Utah 288-170 and led 21-7 HT. In the 2nd H, Utah would outgain ASU 285-97 (ASU held to 17 RY 2nd H!). Utah won 35-21 with 28 unanswered points! One key moment with the game tied 21-21 in the 3rd Q when ASU was at the U20, but were called for holding and then sacked leading to a missed 51y FG, ASU would not cross the 50 on their final two drives. Rising passed just 8-18-107-0-2 in the 1st H, but came out and completed 13-15-140-2-0 in the 2nd H. Utah ended with a 455-385 TY edge (6.5-5.8) including 208-148 RY (5.8-4.2). ASU converted just 4-of-12 3rd down (Utah 7-of-11). Utah D 5 sacks.

As expected, defenses controlled the action early in Madison. Army limited Wisconsin to just 23y on their first two possession and strip sacked Mertz. But Army O couldn't get moving, they gained just 48 TY in the 1st H. Wisconson got 12p 95 and 10p 81y TD drives to lead 13-0 HT (xpt blk'd). Army got down to W26, but missed FG. Wisconsin O didn't do much in the 2nd H, but moved it just enough a few times to keep Army pinned back deep inside their 20. One time Wisconsin had to punt from deep in their own territory and Army was in business stating at midfield to begin the 4th, they took that down to score...13-7. Wisconsin punted from the A35 on 4th-13. Army would fumble with Badgers recovering at the A01 and with just 3min to play, Wisconsin scored to make it 20-7 (they did not go for 2). Army converted 4th down, then threw a 36y pass to the W06 and would score...20-14 :37 to go, Wisconsin recovered the onside kick. UW outgained them 310-266 (5.3-4.8), and outrushed them 198-179 (4.6-3.6). UW converted just 3 of 10 3rd down, Army was 6-of-14, both teams 2-for-2 4th down. Tyler started at QB for Army (leading rusher 17-90y), he did not attempt a pass, Laws was the passing (5-6-87y) and occasional running QB (5 -8y net). Mertz 8-15-112-0-0

UTEP did outgain LaTEch 385-278 (5.3-4.9) in the 19-3 win, but LaTech has plenty of chances to keep it closer, they were in the RZ 5x yet scored just 3 pts (LT entered the game scoring on 15 of 16 RZ trips on the ssn prior). Turnovers were a problem for both - UTEP lost 4 turnovers (fumble at L30, L36, own5 and INT at L20, LaTech lost 3 (INTs at UT25, UT11 and own 39) and neither team was good on 3rd down (combined 8-of-28). It was a game that LaTech never felt in or close to getting in, but UTEP tried to help them stay in it. UTEP D did get 4 sacks (Taylor 3.5) and owned a 37-23 TOP edge. Kendall 14-28-164-0-3. Hardison 19-29-283-0-1 - WR Cowing 9-166y.

Nevada had two long drives for scores while Hawaii ripped 75 and 81 yard Dae Dae Hunter TD runs to lead 14-10 early 2nd Q. Hawaii muffed a punt and Nev recovered at the H19 and soon would lead 17-14. UH came back on a long drive to tie 17-17. UNR blk'd a punt for a FG, their second short field score of the 1st H to lead 20-17 HT. UNR went up 34-17 in the 3rd Q with UH throwing INTs on back-to-back possessions (one at the N09). Each team struggled to move the ball and convert 4th downs over the course of eight 4th Q possessions for a scoreless final quarter. UNR did outgain them 477-393 (5.1-5.8), UH did outrush them 188-82 (6.5-2.2) thanks to 156y on two runs by Hunter. Cordeiro was healthy but Schager still QB's and went 22-39-205-0-4. Strong 34-54-395-2-0. Cole Turner had a big night 12rec-175y.
