kind of expected the parra/webb matchup would be closer to 8.5 and maybe even 9.... so definitely looking at the over in zona

depending on the result of tonights rays/sox game maybe playing the yanks as well..

Yanks put up a 10 spot and won so will be on them tmrw .....think 23-4 now since start of 2007 excluding the occurrence in Pitt which rained out a 3-1 lead the next day .

why do the yanks look so easy on paper nut?

is the line tight only because its a yanks/sox rivalry and also because sox have had success against pettite in the past?

pettite is throwing his best stuff of the season right now though, im trying to find reasons NOT to play the yanks and cant do it.
especially after the way bosox pen looked tonight.
they had to use hansen, aardsma, delcarmen, okajima, AND lopez, and all of them looked like shit except ok

i also see that wake hasnt faced the yanks since 06 but he got completely raped in his outing and didnt even last 4 innings

like the yanks a lot too, and thinking itd be smart to hit this overlnight line @ -26 before it goes up tomorrow.

this road trip has got to be taking a toll on the sox....

Boston has gone 35 games w/out recording any instances of consecutive Over results. That's their longest such streak since before the 2002 season. Their previous longest such streak in said period was 28 games (in 2002).

While it may seem no coincidence that this has happened with Ortiz absent (he was present for the first 7 games of this streak), Boston has actually averaged more runs on the road (4.93 runs) since Ortiz went down than before he went down (4.06 runs).

Boston is 10-0-2 to Under off the 12 Over results that have occurred during this 35 game run.

They of course play the Yankees tomorrow off tonight's Over result.

Pretty interesting stuff BC. Especially having 2 quality LHSP with so many LH bats in the lineups makes alot of sense......

Would say the line does look a bit cheap but Pettitte was -130 both times vs DiceK in NYY last year and -140 vs Schilling . Yanks vs Texas with both 5th SP out there was about -170 today so think it looks normal . Of course there is going to be some Yankee flow tmrw after Boston gets swept but not crazy about Lester on the road . Not really sure Cap but I would say grab NYY ML. Its nice price regardless of how it moves....

Looking @ Houston under 8.5 . Billingsley tough on RHB , tough on the road and tough in day games vs a slumping Houston offense who also struggles in day games. LAD offense struggles in day games avg 3 runs per . Just wonder if Bakce can hold up his end ....

Nut - that said, they may have found just the right opponent to end it (not necessarily Thurs., obviously). Impossible to think this series doesn't produce at least 1 Over result, I'd lean to the obvious O/U 2-2 come the end of the Sunday nighter.

Dodgers- I'm a big fan of Billingsley and Backe is generally awful in the day. Perhaps a good game to bet the over. LA seems to be playing better as of late, perhaps they are starting to realize that the West could be won by anybody.

Giants- Lincecum.

I lean toward an under in Cincy. Lannan is solid on the road and the Reds don't hit lefties. Cueto is also strong at home.

Oakland

Royals +120

Tigers RL- Verlander pitching better lately, and the Tigers have beaten Seattle by more than one in nearly every matchup this season.

Timmons on the mound in Houston, Has a higher k-rate and should benefit billingsley here. He's a mild homer this year though... i like the under in a get away game here.

Tigers RL- Verlander pitching better lately, and the Tigers have beaten Seattle by more than one in nearly every matchup this season.

Tigers just got sent back to exactly .500 (42-42) by Minnesota, so this is another huge series for them.

2 things are going to happen for them IMO in light of their come results vs Seattle (4 away), Cleveland (2 at home) & Minny (4 at home)...

(1) They win at least 6-7 of these games to cement the work load they've done (18-6 SU last 24) to get to & over the .500 hurdle, which sets them up to challenge for the AL Central title down the stretch (which success in the 3rd of the 3 series mentioned would well and truly set them up for). Going (especially) 7-3 would pop them comfortably over .500.

(2) They go 5-5 or worse (2-2 w/SEA, 1-1 w/CLE & 2-2/1-3 w/MIN).

After this series of games finishes, they play 17 of their next 20 on the road. After that 17 out of 20 road stretch they get 10 straight at home - where they are in relation to the .500 mark coming out of those road games will decide where they are psychologically to perform in that subsequent home stretch. And where they are after those road games will largely be decided how they position themselves to enter those road games in these coming 10 games.

On paper that 17-3 road stretch will decide their season's fate, but for me reality dictates these next 10 games do that. They don't do well, then that road stretch will just finish them off.

-Yankess -125
I took this in the morning (mourning here in Slovenia). Boston could be exausted after that Tampa series. They wanted to win, but simply couldn't. They are still without Ortiz and Lester has ERA 4,66 on the road. And Yakees score "some"
icon10.gif
runs yesterday good spot for them before big Derby.
I have to go in this one against my favourite tema in AL.

-DiamondBacks(-1,5) +138
The story is simpe behind this. Brewers against lefties, Brewers on the road, Brewers against WEBB, who is 2-1 when starting against MILWAUKEE with an ERA of 2.66 and a WHIP of 1.364.His team's record is 5-2 (+3.0 units) in these starts. The UNDER is 2-5. (-3.4 units).
DiamondBacks hit lefies well and Parra on the road with an ERA 5,77. What much to say?

-Rockies ??? (they moved my line, I see its -160, have to think, open line was -130, damn I didn't take it)
Colorado is playing great offensively. I saw yesterday game and they have no problems with injuries, they attacked padres at the begining. Torealba, Tulowitzki, especially Trulowitzki, who scored another home run, after he was injured...And Francis will have some run support it is finally time to show something. Also we have Atkins who has the best avg against lefties in NL. He scored 3 run homer yesterday.Miller has an ERA 5,05 on the road, comparing to Francis 5,25 at home. And Marlins ar not hitting lefties like righites. Also their last wins against Nationals were not impressive if we now, Nats have plenty of injuries and also they are one of the weakest teams. Francis also pitched last three games against AL teams, who are still better. Now he will fac NL team. I think rockies will win again, but I am not sure if I'll take it. -160 is to low. RL is a little bit risky, because Rockies bullpen is not the best and can't trust them yet.

really like

Giants - like this play more that Giants loss a tight one last night. Lincecum is crazy good.

Philly - when i bet the phil they dont score when I dont bet them or bet against them they score runs like crazy cant figure this team out but really like Hamels in this spot dont like that the braves lost last night.

Yanks - like the yanks in a slugfest

Wsox - Vasquez scares me but sox play well at home dont think the A's will score enough to keep up with the sox unless Duchscherer shuts them down dude has an era of 1.14 in his last 3 if A's win its gonna be cuz of him.

leans

Dodgers - Billingsley has been pitching well I dont see him or dodgers giving up many runs the key is always Dodgers bats

Brewers -Brewers the better team, Para pitching well lately and Webb has been shit his era is +7.00 the last 3. I think Brewers gonna tee off

Peldas - Francis isn't worth me trusting him with your money, let alone my own. Poohdres have been kept offensively quiet for 2 games since their Game 1 outburst, I don't think this is the spot where they're kept quiet for a 3rd straight game. If you like Colorado (meaning they score runs), then I'd guess Over is the way to go.

This match-up is a psychological white-wash in favour of Philly. They've turned around the years of ownership Atlanta had, and are simply unforgiving about it. Philly or no play everytime these sides meet, except if Myers is anywhere near the mound.

ATL 1-9 SU their last 10, 5-15 SU their last 20, vs the Phils.

Exactly :shake:
I wont touch this for that price. But if I am honest i would take -130, maybe with adjusted line.

I will be on Arizona tonight, they lost yesterday game in last ininngs. And Webb pitched bad against AL Oakland and Minnesota. In last game he pitched against good Florida, who hits righties well at their park. He allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. And I think he will be ok tonight. ERA 3,88 at home with Whip 1,151.
Manny Parra has some great numbers on the road and also in last game against Twins, but I remember that game. I was agianst Twins, they wer on some W10 and they simply has one game, where couldnt score also Twins are not hitting lefties well. Here we have another story. First DiamondBacks hits lefties well and Parra on the road has ERA 5,77. We all know that Brewers lineup is "made for lefties". They hit them better, while against righties they are in troubles sometimes. Also Arizona is strong at home on other side Brewers have negative record on the road. They didn't go to playoff last year because of this and also this year they are not the best on the road, better but still not good enough. Home record 25-13, road 21-25.
After this game BrewCrew is going home and will face Pirates.

My third and probably final pick is
nationals/Reds Under5 -107 (Lannan vs Cueto) 1st 5 ininngs

Good Luck to all!

Hey everyone...

Taking a look at Backe at home a bit here. Of the current Dodger roster the three guys that I'd say had good numbers against him over a decent sample are Furcal, Garciaparra, and Pierre...and all 3 are out still. Billingsley faced them once earlier this year and opened as a -200 home fave before dropping down to about -175 at gametime...the Dodgers lost 5-0 there. Definitely interested in seeing where this line goes as it's the "early" game of the day.

The Philly/Atlanta game is something of interest to me. JJ for Atlanta has not allowed an earned run in 3 straight starts, that is pretty friggin' amazing if you ask me. Hamels though is no slouch and his offense is hitting right now, while the Atlanta one though here and there in games it gets a little spark can't seem to get anything consistent going. I would've put Hamels at about -145ish so I'm a bit intrigued why it opened lower...is it because it's Atlanta at home + JJ's 3 straight 0 ER starts? Then again Atlanta doesn't hit LHPs as well and the Philly offense has come to life after sputtering badly during interleague.

I like NYY, yep yeps...SportsNut is dead on about it being a good price imo. Boston is struggling badly on this road trip and yesterday was their chance to grab a win/avoid the sweep to TB...and head into New York with their head up just a tad. Instead their bullpen aside of Okajima got smacked around after Dice K gave them some solid innings.

My White Sox are on a very nice ride, finding ways to get it done. Javier needs to put out a good start, I feel he's due. And thank goodness Frank Thomas and Eric Chavez are both out as they are the two guys I think could cause him the most trouble as far as power goes for Oakland.

Heeey...this may sound stupid, BUT does anyone know where I can find the MLB series prices? My sportsbook doesn't have it :( HELP!!!

Thanks!

the due factor influencing perceptions is likely to be part of it - Atlanta has lost all of their home games to Philly this season (5).

Honestly BC, the Phillies have had their number for a couple years and Atl hasn't owned the Phillies h2h for probably 10 years.

I wouldn't put more than a unit on the Phillies tonight. Jurjjens is good at home and the Phillies haven't seen him yet, the Phillies have been on the road for nearly the entire month and a Mets series at home is looming.

Most sportsbooks only have series prices before the series starts. For example, you won't be able to get a series price for LAL/Hou but you can for Bos/NYY. If it's not up yet, it may be too early. Check a couple hours before game 1 for the series your looking for, and i'm sure it'll be there.

Playing Oakland and Washington first 5 and under first 5 in Cinn as well.
I like that Wash under 1st 5 and played it at 5 -120. Lannan has been good on the road for the Nats and the Nats have never seen Cueto and are struggling offensively with all their injuries. Was happy to get 5 there.

"The Diamondbacks hit lefties well" I know that is the assumption. A Florida they got 3 runs off Scott Olsen in 7 innings. At home they got 1 run against Greg Smith in 5 innings. At the Mets they got 0 runs from Santana in 7 innings. seems to come to 4 runs in 19 innings. Duke in Pitt gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. I am going to give a short quote of a blogger at the Arizona Snake Pit blog talking about last nights game. His name is Jim Mclannan. "this was the most hopelessly mismanaged and misplayed game I think I have ever seen."
They got 15 hits and 3 walks and scored 3 runs. The baserunning errors were actually funny. Parra has been getting tremendous run support. Its very hard for me to see Arizona being a real favorite. Sick team with a very sick manager. Just a every day fade.

On that first 5 under in Lannan's 9 road games they have not made it to 5 runs yet first 5. He did not look very good last start though but the Reds first half hitting vs lefties has been incredibly bad. They got that 5 run job in the 5th inning in Cleveland and that was about it recently.

I'm all for playing dogs in good spots, but simply put this isn't one for the Brewers. Forget the Backs hit lefties well angle. What about Parra's road numbers? 34.1 ip 43 hits & 22 er. Opp ba of .321! Pretty tough to mismanage a game if Webb pitches well & you can hit Parra. Parra got into the 6th inning 1x in his last 4 road starts, & the pen has got a bit of work this series. Webb has had great run support at home this season, with Zona getting 5+ in 5 of his 7 home starts. The two that didn't were the A's blowout (IMo a hiccup) & a 4-0 cg shutout vs the Nats.

Zona team o4.5-105 for me:smiley_acbe:

Great posts fellas . Nice to have alot of other people's thoughts to read . Love the different contributions.

The way Jar Jur has pitched hard to think the line could be higher . Seems about right . The hard point for me honestly is figuring just how much ATL has regressed . Clearly they have with the injuries but now have gotten some players back . Hamels was -190 to -200 at home vs James but as I said ATL has regressed since that game and it might be -240 today with that pitching matchup( certainly -220 IMO) . Making the game somewheres around -150 to -165 IMO if they played in ATL. With Jar Jur though he is doing so well and worth a good 40 cents more then James .....little bit of a tricky situation IMO to figure out what this should be ....thought yesterday should have been -125 range now the near -150 it closed it .

Another thing is Hamels SP opposed on the road is a who's who of # 5 SPs .
@ Cincy / Arroyo -150 W5-3
@ Milw / Bush -140 L4-5 ( 2runs in the b8th)
@ SFG / Misch -175 W 7-4 ( 3runs in the 8th)
@ Wash / Bergmann -165 W 1-0 ( run in the 9th)
@ Houston / Sampson -170 W 15-6 (11 runs in the 5th and 6th)
@ Fla / Miller -160 L2-6 ( 4 scored in the b9th)
@ Texas / Padilla -135 W 8-6 ( Philly held off Texas late)

Very interesting as to how close these games were . You have 4 or the 7 decided last 2 innings and another @ Texas which was a close 8-6 b8th bases juiced the got Salty on a K and in the 9th leadoff double then 1st and 3rd with 1 out saw Hamilton and Bradley K'd to end the game. The game @ Houston he left trailing 6-4 after 4 innings and the rally was once in a season type deal IMO. About the only easy game was the 1st one @ Cincy .

So when he has pitched real well he has not recieved good run support . Kinda funny .

Also some 1st inning issues as well.

@ Reds - His team scored 3 top 1st but he allowed 2 in the b1st .
@Milw- allowed 3 runs in the 1st and tied 3-3 after 5 innings.
@SFG- trailed 4-3 after 1st 5 innings
@ Wash 0-0 till the 9th
@Houston down 3-0 after 1st inning and 6-4 Houston after 5 innings
@FLA allowed another 1st inning run and trailed 1-0 after 5th inning .
@ Texas allowed 2 1st inn runs but led 6-4 after 5th inning .

So 4 times he allowed 1st inn runs ....trailed 3 times and twice TIED by the 5th .

So despite the good quality starts and the good away stats doesnt seem like he is actually giving his team a great chance to win . A good chance by pitching deep into games but all the early runs mean that Philly is always looking up when he pitches ....sort of interesting .....

Tough game ATL has been crap but a big thing with teams going sour is what there SP are doing early . To further Hamels look at the LAA start the team is slumping and they again are trailing early and looking up despite what was a solid overall effort. . So putting your team down quickly when your struggling is almost like the kiss of death and we often have seen that with ATL lately . Philly scored a run in the 2nd inning both games and then made it 4 and 5-0 by the 3rd both days .

Going back a long while probably since Matt Diaz went down and they really werent doing much then but LHSP have done very well which Edgar Renteria absence and even Andruw Jones shows IMO. Due to the LH heavy lineup and SWH middle of Chipper and Tex . Chipper often injured of late and tex slumping frm the RH side. Since Hamels shut them out 3 , 4 , 1, 3, 7 , 4 , 3 , 5 , 0 , 2 , 5 , 5....most of the higher scores were all pen runs if not all of them.....the spot was Olsen and 3 runs in 6 innings ..blue bold is the wins 3-2 , 4-2 , 3-1 , 7-5 and 5-4 ...

Like the Under and thinking about some Props ATL 1st score of the game and 1st inn score YES . Only thing that scares me about the unders is the pens but tough to go 1st 5 under when Hamels seems to struggle then settle down at times......

Thinking a 4-3 game or even 3-2 ....just not sure what I do.....yet :shake:

I prefer Zona myself . Webb actually had some dead arm issues for awhile and that OAK start was the peak of it . He said he started to feel it vs NYM and OAK was the next start which I pounded the A's because of his comments . Anyway he has slowly gotten better since but still hasnt been overly sharp . With Parra sort of think Jonathan Sanchez. Parra is slowly becoming more efficient on the road just as Sanchez has in 2008. His starts @ Houston both times he started to fall aprt around the 5th and 6thinnings . He was real sharp at minny and solid @ Pitt . Really just for future reference think he should be better in the 2nd H on teh road then he has been . Nothing really in regards in to todays matchup just an observation to think about for future starts. You can see RHBs giving him trouble on the road because of opponent STL , Houston , Wash all have middle of the orders with core RHBs . Minny has 2 LHB in the 3-4 slot..:shake:

Like cogenman said the new series probably wont pop up till the afternoon most times . Just check whatever books allow you to view lines without an account bodog or greek usually what I glance at ....

Only thing is now Hairston and Keppinger have returned and will be atop the lineup giving them maybe 3 abs by the 5th inning . Lannan has been real good so far on the road and maybe Balt seeing him twice had something to do with last outing . Cueto solid at home and Nats struggling vs RH s still seems like a sound play though . Lannan run support L9 starts 3 runs or less in each but actually 2runs or less in 7 of them including last 4 away and 6 of 9 away 2runs or less...another 3 runs....so little offense for him so far ...

Tough to want to have those poison pens get involved.....Good find looking at this myself now..:shake::cheers:

Nut - that said, they may have found just the right opponent to end it (not necessarily Thurs., obviously). Impossible to think this series doesn't produce at least 1 Over result, I'd lean to the obvious O/U 2-2 come the end of the Sunday nighter.

Meant to respond yesterday was just to tired . Anyway would have to clearly agree to expect some offense here as Yanks have really been battling of late . Struggling offense and some so-so SP means alot of bullpen work and really outside of Papelbon the RS pen has been extremely inconsistent . You have Rasner and Mussina going the next 2 days who if they dont deliver could put NYY in a tough spot come Sunday if Joba doesnt throw strikes and keep his pitch count normal. The kid gets amped up and 1st career start vs Boston on ESPN Sunday Night ....emotional enough IMO....

Looking at it w/o knowledge of the upcoming totals probably prefer the UNDER must here in Game 1 of any .....Game's 2 and 3 should be interesting ...Moose is still waiting for Manny's Hrs to land from April ..:shake:

LAD @ Houston :

Backe :

So pitching on normal rest seems to be a plus for Backe huge difference in BAA 50 points and BB to K ratio. At home 3 starts on normal rest were vs SD , Wash and Philly :
20.1 Inn 14 H 8 r 3hr 6bb 19k

Day splits dont look good but I know off the top of my head two day starts were early @ Philly vs Myers when got blasted and later @ Texas when he was decent ( RHP in Texas not easy ). So took away the Philly start and his other 4 starts read : 24inn 22h 11r 5hr 12bb 21K . Great ? Nope , but fairly decent ....

LAD lineup in the day is 19-9 UNDER .
This lineup is 147 for 598 .246 . 16Hrs and 57 RBI also 41BB 113ks .
Kemp has 4 bbs to 31ks batting leadoff. Young , Kent and Kemp have solid avgs but the rest are 260 or below . Ethier and DeWitt have major struggles .

Houston lineup in the day revolves around 3-4-5 who have hit fairly well vs LAD pitching in the past but face a tough task in Billingsley since he holds RHB to about 209 -210 BAA past 2 years . As well as .215 BAA on the road and an ERA well below 3.00 with similiar numbers in the day starts to away starts. Just very high quality . As wellas 153Ks in what would be 135 Innings vs RHBs.

So Houston middle is solid in day games but Bourne 14-80 and 5-31 vs LAD pitching and Lorretta 14-54 .259 dont set the tone well . The Blum- Pence and Towles group struggles 31-156 which Pence is 20-78 but again RHB. So takeout the middle and your looking at 55-290 .190 and 72-242 for the middle. So 127-532 in day starts or .239...and Billingsley has ben good at keeping it in the park.....23hrs 75 rbi ...but 15 and 45 from the 3-4-5 guys.....

Looking @ Houston +1.5 RL -135 (like it more then the ML) and Under 4.5 1st 5 inning prefer it more then game under ....but still might play the "normal" plays.....

Nut : LAD offense struggles at as well, I have the same quesion & that is is Backe good enough to hold a bad Dodger offense down.

Royals +141
I will go with Davis. he has road starts ERA 1,32. He didn't pitch well in last two home games, but I think this line is too big. Olson is also struggling lately with ERA 5,52 in last 3 starts, so i don't see so big difference. Royals don't have important injuries. I know Orioles are 9-1 in Baltimore against kansas, but still...Like it for this odds.

Had hoped two struggling offenses in " unfavorable" situations meant limited runs ..and since few of Backe's starts had come on normal rest was hoping the opponents had more then anything to do with it . As well as his poor career day splits being sort of incomplete as most of it came off injuries as a rookie....oh well...2 quick outs and you let DeWitt beat you...bad sign IMO...:shake:

I tend to agree and was looking @ KC as well. Really just think it boils down to the fact little sepeartes these teams and now Balt pen has lost some players to injuries which is big IMO since Olson may not got deep in the game. Prefer KC at +140 with 2 SP who cancel eachother ....

@Nut :shake: nice to see, when you have same opinion.

My final card for today:
Yankees -125
D-Backs(-1,5) +138
Nats/Reds Under 5 1st 5 ininngs -107
Royals +141

Good luck to all!

Let me make this as simple as I can. Arizona last night had 20 baserunners and scored 3 runs. This goes way past good pitcher bad pitcher. Melvin is right up there with the very worst managers in baseball and if you play the Diamondbacks and see them bunt with their best hitter and then not score a run and get annoyed----. You are spotting the opposition a lot more than money odds here. Yost is simply a poor manager. That makes him almost a Genius of the game compared to Melvin.
