If Houston's Odds Get To The +130 Area, Worth A Play...Same With Mets, Can Get It Up To +120...(I'd play it lower, just want the best odds I can get!:tiphat:)

Over In St. Louis Looks Good...And Dodgers As A Road Dog vs Worst Home Team In The Majors...

Oliver Perez has an ERA of 0 in 11 IP vs. Philly this year. Line is too high.

IMO Wellemeyer is still hurt, and Sean Marshall is a safe bet to give up a few runs. Leaning over 8.5 there.

Garland over Litsch seems a little bit light. Ditto for Morton over Wandy Rodriguez. Will see how these lines progress come morning.

Take my opinions in this post with a grain of salt as I haven't had time to totally delve into them and think hard about them...but I wanted to get my gut reaction on paper. Have made no plays yet. Tempted to take Boston +150 which seems absurd for a team that can take Joba Chamberlain's walks...

ESPN TV games have been infused with Fav results recently, especially games with home favs.

The Fav is 8-3 SU last 11 games, 16-6 SU last 22 games
Home Favs are 8-2 SU last 10 games, 15-4 SU last 19 games

A 72-80% Fav hit rate is not normal. A correction is coming.

The games on ESPN's schedule (projected pitching match-ups based on normal rest in brackets)

Boston @New York
Minnesota @Boston (Baker vs Dice-K)
Saint Louis @Philadelphia (Boggs vs Happ)
Colorado @Mets (Redman vs Pelfrey)

Yankees minus the chalk. Won't lose 3 out of 4 to Boston in their house.

Minnesota this season

14-4 SU in interleague play
8-1 SU at home
6-3 SU on the road

19-12 SU vs AL teams .500 or less
12-6 SU at home
7-6 SU on the road

16-22 SU vs AL teams .501 or better
12-11 SU at home
4-11 SU on the road

Harden goes tomorrow against the chisox. He recently said his arm felt like it was dead in his last start and his velocity was down. This is from July 3rd...

Mets/Phils U 10
Oliver Perez has good day splits and Phils just don't hit lefties as well as they do righties. Kendrick is a little bit of a concern since he has thrown better on the road than at home. The teams will wrap up a 4 game set on Monday so wouldn't be surprised to see a few starters get the day off. Church left complaining of dizinesss tonight I believe and will likely miss. Also an under ump in Bill Hohn helps the cause.

Kendrick gets too much runs support for me to consider any under of his. 14 straight games he's been given at least 4 runs of support, and in 12 of those games it was 5+ runs (4-2 to Over at home in that time).

10 opponent scores during those 14 games have been 4+ runs.

Nothing about this guy's ERA or run support suggests Under is the way to go. The Mets have managed 19 baserunners in 9.0 inns of his the last 2 seasons, but he's gotten out-of-jail on the ER front. That kind of WHIP won't keep getting out of jail forever.

Kendrick is 10-4 to Over this season vs teams not called Atlanta.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
And to not be 1 sided

Perez is truly Mr. All-or-Nothing

7 starts with an ERA of 2.35 or less .......... 5-2 to Under
2 starts with an ERA between 2.36-7.19 .... 1-0-1 to Over
8 starts with an ERA of 7.20 or more ......... 7-1 to Over

Philly off a bad loss, in the bandbox? I dont see a 2.35 ERA or less start here, personally.

Good stuff on Harden . Tough to not like WSox and lean over .

Not much catching my eye so far buts it early.

Dukes is OUT for Nats and Volzquez opposes but now not struggling past 2 starts . Think Nats Lost 17 of 21 vs RHSP.

1st 5 inn under @ Colorado 5.5 runs

Texas , Toronto and NYY

Hey Nut did you happen to catch the Series prices in BAL and Philly before these series started? Just curious...

Kind of tired and sleepy. No immediate decisions but maybe upgrade that Phillie under. Perez is 11-0 on the road on Sunday. 9 quality games and 2 bad ones.

Really scared to do it tomorrow ... but i will be betting the under in colorado.

the indians are cheap , due to 7 game losing streak. i will bite.

and under in tampa looks promising.

ill be on those three if i get the numbers i expect.

Hey, BC, would you be so kind to post those numbers for Wakefield regarding him facing a <.500 teams and >.500 teams. If I remember correctly, his numbers have been completely the opposite, depending on the situation against what kind of a team he's pitching?

Thanks in advance! :shake:

Wakefield

vs teams 7+ games over .500
ERA 6.55, WHIP 1.79 - O/U 3-2-1, avg 10.50 runs/game

Boston 1-5 SU

vs all other teams (best of which is 2 games over .500)
ERA 2.60, WHIP 1.01 - O/U 4-5-2, avg 8.45 runs/game

Boston 7-4 SU

The Yankees are 4 games above .500, pretty much putting them exactly between the 2 designated groupings, lol.

A very high overall WHIP (2.57) which yielded a very high ERA (10.92). At the time of all 3 of those games, the Yankees had a sub .500 record last season (5 games below, 4 games below, and 6 games below).

Another study in extremes recently has been Seattle on "defense" - in their last 21 games they've...

conceded 0-2 runs 10 times ... 9-1 SU, O/U 3-6-1
conceded 3-4 runs 1 time ...... 1-0 SU, O/U 1-0
conceded. 5+ runs 10 times ... 1-9 SU, O/U 6-3-1

So in trying to consider the outcome of their games in recent times, it's not really been about their offense vs the opposition starter whatsoever - it's all boiled down to the opposing team's offense vs their starter.

Yet another study in extremes, the Mets last 16 games of all-or-nothing offense -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7 & 11, 2 & 9 run totals.

9 totals of 0-3 runs.
0 totals of 4-6 runs.
7 totals of 7+ runs.

Mets hitting .303 their last 10 vs righties
+ Kendrick sporting a shiny 5.05 home ERA
= which most likely grouping will the Mutts offensive output equate to?

Guys, does anyone happen to know if the White Sox are resting someone today?

Trying to dig it out but not much luck as of yet.

BC - I love the study of extremes . I dont do it quite as well organized as yourself but do alot of that type research and analysis myself . Big thing with me and clearly with you ( in a somewhat different manner though) is creating "profiles" for these teams . We say alot of teams go on extended "runs" of performing certain ways in certain situations whether its home or away , day or night , RH vs LH SP , games in a series . All very valuable info to know how they may trend and then apply it accordingly . I definetly do my best to "guess" how the game will play out and bet accordingly .

Excellent work especially with the Boston-NYY series I have done very well on the totals and alot of times your comments are what help soldifies my thoughts . Still fuming I wasnt around to see your Tor-LAA post . As I mentioned late yesterday I had felt Lackey was ready to get hit around some and happy I did have Tor but could have added to that play and been on the over ....Anyway just acknowledging I appreciate the work as does everyone else I am sure .

BOL today

Outside of spending time reading everything WSox related its tough to find that stuff out before lineups . I try to read game previews (which Ido anyway)and hope they mentioned something and maybe game recaps from previous day . The best site is scoresandodds at giving heads up as to who should be out that day but its not 100% accurate but great for being ahead of the outlets . Also rotworld.com .....other then that its why I try to wait as long as possible for lineups to come out ....

So far dont see anything mentioned . AJ didnt play as Hall caught yesterday so figure he is . Wouldnt expect really anyone to rest since they are down 1-2 in the series but more importantly have the day off on Monday ....:shake:

Other than maybe Dye, who would really be a deal-breaker if they sat?

The A's are a pick 'em against a pitcher who has shut them out once earlier this year, and throwing a pitcher who may or may not be hurt. This is a no-brainer, IMO. Doesn't mean I'm playing it any bigger than normal, but I think its worth a play.

AJ got the day off yesterday so he should be at catcher. With Konerko on the DL Swisher should be at 1st. Ramirez got the day off on Friday and went 3-3 yesterday so he should be at 2b. Cabrera got the day off Thursday so he should be at SS. With a righty on the mound Wise should be in CF. Crede got the day off Wednesday so he should be at 3b. With all the time Thome got off during interleague, I would expct him to be in there. That leaves Quentin and Dye who havent had days off in a while. The sox really dont have any other OF's to replace one of them because Ozzie doesnt like to use Anderson vs rhp so i expect them both to be in there. I think the regular lineup will be in there today.

The Reds -200 look appealing as Edinson coming off two outings where he hasn't been real sharp. The reason for his ineffectiveness has been his K/BB ratio which has been very good all year but has just 3 K's and 6 BB's in his last two starts. Before those two starts this is a guy who was consistently been striking out 7 batters/game. He still averages about 3 BB's per game but that is what happens when your stuff is as nasty as Volquez's is, tough to always know where the ball is going to end up. Edinson will be one of two or three guys which will be in the hunt to start the all star game next week and this could be a very good time to show he is a deserving canidate. A lot of the troubles Volquez has had is against teams he is facing for the 2nd time. He has never faced Washington and without Dukes their lineup loses a major threat. The Nats have inherited the worst record in the league with just 34 wins. Cinci should be able to get some good advanced scouting on Balester since Columbus is in the same division as Louisville in the International League. Perhaps the Reds offense can finally hit their stride, they have too much potential to continue to be this bad. Reds were -150 against Boston and Wakefield at home now they are only -200 @ home against the worst team in the league, with quite possibly one of the worst lineups who have put up 3, 0 and 2 runs in this series. Will most likely have a play on the Reds depending on lineups.

Great post bro. You summed up what was on my mind and I was to lazy to post . Knew the WS had been resting a guy here and there this week and Thome doesnt need any after the long IL break he had. Really the only 2 guys "due" for an off day are Quentin and Dye . Dye will not get it with tmrw off and his bat being so huge of late . If Quentin did so be it . He is slumping lately think 2-23 since the Cubs series(2-18 vs Oak in 2008) so I wouldnt mind a day off for him and Anderson getting some time . Would mix the lineup up and get a hotter player in the 3 hole . :shake:

I agree . Throw in Nats 4-17 L21 vs RHSP I believe and Dukes loss is immense as they also lost Milledge recently as well . Talent wise now the Nats are like a 50 win team . Bullpen was a strength but Cordero's loss destroyed that , along with SP issues leading to overuse and the year long struggles of Ayala ( or decline) . When your thinking a team has an 80% chance to win then -200 or -220 is relatively cheap for that situation. Only concern is Volzquez staying in this slump as his command is exactly what put him over the hump from previous stints . It is 2 different SP when you see the variance in results.

Thats my biggest concern laying such a big price for a guy who is struggling and his team trying for a some what rare 4 game sweep ....:shake:

Better for the Colorado under which I have bet. Looks like a good young pitcher.

HWG:

Was thinking actually about Tor ML . Litsch really good in day starts so far and Garland while not awful very medicore vs Tor past few seasons .

Don't think LAA is a good fit fr Litsch. Does not strike guys out, pitches to contact mostly...and the Angels have a knack for turning contact into runs. Jays got their win last night...Angels bounce back today.

Chris Volstad, the 16th overall pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, had his contract selected from Double-A Carolina on Sunday afternoon, and initially he will be available to pitch out of the bullpen. A 6-foot-7, 21-year-old, Volstad was 4-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 15 starts for Carolina. The right-hander, who is from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has already logged 91 innings this season. He's struck out 56 while walking 30.

cut and paste from mlb website

I played the Pitt/Mil over 9.5. Brewers have scored about 5 rpg against LH's at home. Suppan really struggling over L3 starts and carrying a high whip 1.58 for the season. Figure the Pirates will be able to help the cause today offensively. Pitt a major over machine on the road this season at 30-10. Both bullpens questionable and figure to get in the mix today with these two starters going.

Really starting to like the Rangers today Milwood's last 5 starts all been on the road. His pitch count has also been down in the last couple starts so could see him very fresh and sharp today. Liz is a hard thrower but the Rangers pretty good against righties

Good stuff fellas . Not much of interest yet from me . Still getting through this stuff.

So far I was basically doing it because I wanted to pay attention , close attention to the Reds game. Took Nats +1.5 RL 1 unit and 1/2 unit on Nats ML . Played GS over 136.5 1 unit as well .....

Nats actualy 8-6 on Sundays and the kid did a good job @ Fla for awhile . Reds struggling nearly as badly as Wash vs RHSP. Volzquez in ??? mark territory . Real interested to see how he throws ...thought about the over 8 .5 but ultimately passed to little offense from Nats vs RHP. My guess is Willy Mo Pena is key today probaly Hrs ....

Hendrickson back in for Florida today according to Pinny. They did have Volstad listed for about 45 minutes............stay tuned.
