This is really ironic in a way that most won't understand, but IU was predicted like 17th to start the season, so every game was supposed to be a hard game. Funny how the narrative changes when you not only win, but smack everybody on the schedule besides Michigan and OSU. Funny how perceptions change when reality shows everything is biased.
Strange how the teams with the worst SOS have the best records. I think there's a legitimate argument that UGA should have the #1 seed, but with the way the bracket turned out I'm sure they're quite content with being the 2They're a good team, no doubt. I'm just saying they, like psu and smu and prob Boise too, didn't beat any of the top teams. Even ND could be thrown in there. So when Bama backers say, but SMU didn't beat anyone....well, neither did lots of playoff teams.
SMU should have just declined the bid after the committee made it clear that teams who didn't play another game couldn't move ahead or behind one another. Declining a bid to a conference championship game is probably going to happen sooner rather than later given this systemSOS obviously doesn’t matter for anything. The Gamecocks were 9-3 and near middle of the pack of SEC and beat a 9-3 Clemson that was in the ACC Championship. While I’m not mad about SMU getting in they lost early in the season and then lost the conference game. Not really sure why they are being rewarded with a playoff birth after losing the only ranked game they played all season to BYU and then losing the championship game as well. The only win people are pointing to now is Lou back in October haha. Then having SMU seeded higher than Clemson after losing to Clemson the literal day before just shows the inconsistencies in the process and that they are trying to set up certain match ups
There's so few games in football, I'm not sure we'll ever see a lose on purpose scenario, but if your star player gets dinged up in a game, we'll probably see more coaches keeping guys out even if they can returnI think the more interesting thing going forward will be seeding. It’s nothing in basketball and baseball to, let’s say, respectfully purposely lose a game.
Football usually don’t see it but this may start it
