***National Championship--Clemson vs Alabama--Discussion***

Not necessarily, but sometimes...yes. That guy got the WR's neck a millisecond before the ball got there. It's much more pronounced when watching it in slow motion.

But it was PI. Sometimes calls suck, but that was PI - it was just more pronounced in slow motion.

I'm not sure it was. That's why the call is so subjective and that's what needs to be corrected (if it's at all possible to begin with).

The play calling has really hurt because the defense is having to defend a ton of plays ... and as good as they are, they are gonna tire at some point if Clemson is running 90 plays

You solely feel that PI should not be a spot foul because of hail mary's? How many times have you seen PI called on a hail mary? I can't recall it happening.
I'm saying Hail Mary

I mean that there shouldn't be long passes that are subjective calls that met 59 yds and such

The spot foul for PI really only sucks because of how subjective the call has become, and how horrible NFL officiating is. If it was officiated correctly all the time, make it a spot foul all day long...but it's become a bailout way more often than it hasn't.

Agree about the horrible officiating. But don't you think if PI was 15 years that so many of these guys would commit it on purpose because they would rather give up 15 than more or a TD?

Seems like the answer would be to improve officiating, but as kinda mentioned some of these calls are really hard to make in real time.

They may, but that's not a reason to not make/change a rule imo. If it's a clear situation where they did it purposely to prevent an obvious TD (or a huge play), there can be a spot foul provision..similar to the "clear path" in the NBA. The problem with that is that it's make it more subjective, which is what I'm trying to avoid. The only answer in all of this is better, and full time, officiating. That solves ALL of the problems and allows them to tweak rules to make them better for the game.
