Looking at 9/8 Kentucky Downs

R1: #8 drops from MSW to Maiden Claiming, improving Beyer's in all three races and took big step forward last out when stretching in distance and adding blinkers...Maker is great with drop downs.

R2: speaking of Maker, I think it's a cold Maker double to kick off the Thursday card, #8 will race for a tag for the first time for dangerous connections Ramsey/Maker/Geroux ...saw an interview with Ramsey before Spa meet and he was saying how he wasn't really pointing to Spa meet but was really looking forward to defending his Ky Downs owners title. I'll be keeping an eye on all of his runners.

R3: #1 goes for trainer that went 2 for 2 on opening day (Sat), in his last start- steady no room entering stretch, was in tight on inside and was boxed in stretch. 1st,2nd,3rd place finishers of that race were the speeds....#4 also exits a tough trip, was squeezed at the start and shuffled back to last then was widest entering and through the stretch while unleashing a nice rally, winner was sitting 3rd and 2nd place finisher was sitting in 2nd while 3rd place finisher also had a nice jump on Plug Catcher...#10 hasn't raced on turf since back in March at Fairgrounds when 3rd beaten a length vs my 2nd pick in this race , so certainly fits in here.

R4: #8 logical 2-1 ml fav. 7 yo mare has really held her form for Joe Sharp and has been facing much tougher on NYRA circuit than what others in here have been facing. Two of Saturday's opening day winners were coming out of races at Spa. Her 2nd and 3rd back at BEL make her really tough to beat here...#11 (20-1 ml) Ramsey/Maker off the claim, huge move for Maker off claim in turf races. Last race was on Synthetic but she was way out of it and made a nice run to get up for 2nd vs speedy wire to wire winner...being that it's off claim and hasn't raced since 7/7 this is probably one of the ones they were pointing to this meet with....#9 (10-1 ml) has won last two times when on turf, both were 7F races at Mountaineer.

R5: #8 owned and trained by George Weaver, is a likely short price winner based on the fact that her two races that she has run are better than what anyone else in this field has run. In last race was wide top stretch then taken out wider by eventual winner. 1st and 3rd place finishers from debut came back to win their next start and winner from last came back to run a good 3rd next out vs Alw company for Chad Brown. Looks like she's always wanted distance as Weaver debuted her at 1 1/16 then went to 1 1/4 in next start...#5 was up against it in last after being squeezed at start then wide vs slow pace, dangerous Ramsey/Maker/Geroux connections. Her best two races were going 1 3/8 and 1 1/2 and those were on good and soft courses so she may love the 1 5/16 distance on a firm course. Winner of last is likely fav in race #7...#9 could provide value off of her ugly performance last out but she simply didn't like the yielding course. Her best two races are going longer distances (1 3/8, 1 3/16) and adds blinkers today....mixed feeling about #4 who could improve in her 2nd U.S. start, 2nd start with lasix and 2nd start off a long layoff but man she had a good setup in her last start as that race was heavily contested early setting it up for an off the pace runner. Just missed but that race came back slow.

R6: #1 (8-1 ml) I don't like that he's being offered for $40k but probably needed last off long layoff and was super competitive vs horses like A Lot, Dubai Sky, Night Prowler - all of those would be odds on in here. Tons of early speeds so should get a great pace setup.... #4 mentioned it earlier but Maker off claim on turf is very dangerous angle, also a positive that he claimed for $25k and is now moving up to $40k. Race two back at today's distance make him a serious player...another that should get a favorable pace setup is late running #12 who over came a tough trip at Woodbine in last....#11 is also for Maker, goes dirt to turf after having strictly been running on dirt but does have 4 prior turf races...last was a $100k stakes, 15-1 shot is interesting considering price and connections.

I have to do more work in R7, R8, R9 but jumping ahead...

R10: I'll be against #1 (5-1 ml) firster and 2nd time starter #7 (7-2 ml) both go for newly inducted HOF trainer Asmussen who is 1 for 37 at Kentucky Downs L5 years (3 off the board finishers on Sat) and 15 L's at odds of 5-1 or lower.
#6 exits same debut race as #7 but #6 (6-1 ml) had the way tougher trip - awkward start, looked like he actually jumped, moved up on outside made a huge middle move before losing ground while being fanned at least 7 wide, ran green thru stretch lugging in and out, winner was wire to wire speed, 3rd place #7 was up on pace within 1 length...could be more professional today with a race under his belt and two works after that debut effort...another 2nd time starter that ran huge in his debut was #8 (8-1 ml) who actually won debut but was DQed and taken down for bumping horse he finished in a DH with, but #8 ran huge considering he did all of the dirty work cutting out the pace while dueling on inside and the other two horses that tried to run with him early tired to finish 5th and 6th. 3rd place finisher out of that race came back to win MSW @ Arl 1M turf by 6 lengths.

R7: in a race with many contenders I found it interesting that 5 of the 12 fillies and mares entered are facing winners for the first time....i thought that #4 (12-1 ml) and #13 (12-1 ml) were both best bred to stretch out to this 1 5/16 distance....of the ones off a maiden win I'm interested in #7 (15-1 ml) who comes off a nice 80 Beyer winning a $75K maiden claimer at Spa for Maker....#8 also broke maiden at Spa but will have to bring her turf races on "good" going to "firm" going and will be a short price...#2 is another contender, she took a nice step forward as a 3 yo and just missed her debut race last year at KD going 6.5 furlongs.

It doesn't look like there are many early speeds in R8 and that makes #9 very dangerous in here....#5 has a race at this course and distance last year that makes her a serious threat in here, exits a very fast mile race at Indiana Grand...#7 (15-1 ml) took a major step forward trying grass for the first time last out

R9: #10 has won his last three starts on firm turf, was up against it two back in G1 on good turf. I saw a great stat supporting #10 - Maker is 9 for last 20 and 5 2nds in non graded turf races with horses that are off a win 18-36 days ago....#2 ships in from Cali for Hess/Desormeaux, enters this race in great shape, winner two back Metaboss came back to run 2nd in G2 at Del Mar going 1 3/8 on turf....#9 (12-1 ml)is a bounce back candidate at a price, never was really involved vs repeat winner Watchyourownbobber last time, before that was wide at Indiana Grand and three back posted a nice win at CD vs Dubai Sky (5th in G2 Bernard Baruch)

I just went back and watched a couple of #10's replays and she probably has to be used....two back at Churchill Downs was saving ground but had no room backside or entering stretch, steady - box, never in the clear through the stretch and last time at Del Mar - winner took an easy early lead and went on to wire field and 3rd place finisher (8/5 fav)was also up pretty close sitting in 3rd while Brooks House put in a wide trip and was widest in stretch....covered most ground in race according to Trakus, +57 more feet than winner while only being beaten 1 1/4 lengths.

Looking at Trakus two back on #9 Dac - ran 12 feet more than winner while 2nd place finisher ran 16 feet less than winner, 3rd place finisher +1, 5th place -26 and 6th place -31

Reviewing notes on Spa shippers going into R8 #12
Spa shippers at Kentucky Downs are currently 3 for 14 however, three Spa shippers ran in same race two times and two other races featured two Spa shipping starters.
Arnold Spa shippers 0 for 2

It doesn't look like there are many early speeds in R8 and that makes #9 very dangerous in here....#5 has a race at this course and distance last year that makes her a serious threat in here, exits a very fast mile race at Indiana Grand...#7 (15-1 ml) took a major step forward trying grass for the first time last out
