Deep in my heart I believe 2 things. The National league West is garbage and Houston deserves great respect. Houston is 10-2 last 12. They did not beat garbage. 2 wins vs Mets. 2 against the Reds. 3 against the Cardinals and then 3 against the Cubs. Coorado is 13-7 last 20 the same as Houston over their last 20. It breaks down 10 wins from their own garbage division and 3 from Washington. I give them some respect but bet Houston.
A total will get small money. Mets under. Myers has gone under 7 straight. Now the Mets have been somewhat of an over machine lately but this year they are 8-1 under on Friday at home.

Good points with Houston vs Colorado . Not impressed at all with COL evrn at home but also not that impressed with HOUSTON. They have benefited from some good spots and really thrived on good solid pitching . Not thats a bad thing just not sure Moehler is the Stro I wanna back....:shake:

Last 9 for Houston in which they won the last 8 games they have allowed 2 runs or less in seven of them and in those 7 games just 7 runs ...2runs 3x , 0 runs 3x and 1 run .....tough to lose a game if you have such a great run of allowing 2 runs or less...

Even L10 games they topped 4 runs only twice on offense and twice more scored 4 runs otherwise 3 or less in 6 games...

Does Houston believe they can win the WC? The Brewers recently are doing nothing to put a dampner on such thoughts.

This team could be this season's "Rockies run".

Looking at

1- Yanks have a long trip from Tampa to Seattle .....long trip ...since Sunday ...NY to Det to TB to Sea ...Tough to lay the price with Pettitte who definetly was hurt in 08 but the Senate hearings and what it took away from his offseason preparation IMO...Morrow the unseen RHP= UND 5 inn ? Do like the 5 spot late though

AL:
Oakland ML??
Tough to back them but they have the better SP in Braden who has been a pleasant suprise . Mike Sweeney played Game 1 on Thursday a nice bat to have vs a LHSP . Only 8-16 away vs LHSP the have won 4 of 7 vs them recently...Balt full of LH w/o Mora's bat at the top so looking to fade them.

Jays ML ?
TB just doesnt impress me and there pen is a huge issue for me . Jays are hot and just seem to have the edges ....

Bergmann does NOT pitch well taking his turn on 6 days so looking at over with Jurrjens struggles of late ...

Texas ML ?
fade teh questionable Beckett here @ TExas ...

Under 9.5 KC ..??

Under 8 Minny or 1st 5 inn ?? Cant back DET vs a LHSP at this moment ...

LAD ML - Manny being Manny

Valid Point .

Personally I dont see it as even remotely possible mostly because its not so much MILW they are chasing as STL and Philly are slightily ahead of them as well. That and I think there lineup kinda stinks w/o Lee and Matsui but a win streak is a win streak ...Pence and Wiggy keep swinging well and anything is possible we both know momentum is a funny thing...

Dan Haren has shown very similar patterns the past several seasons where his arm seems to deaden in early September. In 2007 his ERA regressed every month and from August 21 - Sept 17, he tossed 37.3 innings and allowed 55 hits and 27 earned runs. In 2006, his worst month again was in September with a 5.80 ERA. In September 2006, he threw 35.7 innings and allowed 43 hits and 27 runs. In August 2008, he has begun to show similar regression. In August 2008, he tossed 38.3 innings and allowed 55 hits and 24 runs with an ERA of 5.63. He looks like he is tailing off for the 3rd year in a row. Dodgers' hitters are a career .320 off Haren. On 8/30, the Dodgers roughed up Haren for 5 runs and 10 hits in 6 innings. Derek Lowe is hitting a good stride of late. In his last 4 starts, he has thrown 25.3 innings and allowed 22 hits and just 4 earned runs. He has solid numbers against the Dbacks this season including 6 innings of shutout ball on 8/31 in his last start.

I am leaning strongly towards the Dodgers.

Well nice post . You basically sealed a play on LAD for me . I have been fading Haren alot lately myself since he looked medicore vs Pitt (played on him once I think in that span). Anyway since you showed its a relevant issue with him late in the year cant pass up LAD here but do hate that they have seen Lowe so often lately as I think this is #4 since the break...

Nice point on Lowe's 4th start against the Dbacks since the Break. For what it's worth his numbers in those starts have been solid and it's Haren 3rd time against the Dodgers since the Break. Let's bring it home. I don't like this Dback team. Believe it or not, the main concerns for Lowe are David Eckstein and Stehen Drew who have owned him while Chris Young, Adam Dunn, Chris Snyder and Connor Jackson have really struggled. 'an_horse'

Have played the Dodgers myself but should point out that Haren has been alternating good and bad starts and is set for a good one. Just think team strength is well to the side of the Dodgers here.

Some more ammo for an LAD play : In Harens last 5 starts he has given up 47 hits in 32.1 innings, so who ever mentioned Harens arm going dead this time of the year could be 100% correct. :smiley_acbe:

Why are the White Sox so expensive? Is is Moseley? Buehrle? The situation?

i think Moseley as well.

...i want to play the ATL under, but don't know if i can trust Bergmann. I'm interested in playing the 'Stros with as wild as Ubaldy can be. The M's can't hit lefties and Morrow's first start in the majors could be an issue i'm foreseeing. I also like the NYM under, but really need a Phillies loss for my future bet

any thoughts on yanks v mariners?

everybody knows yanks need to sweep the series but can they? pettite has been struggling and mariners have a reliver on deck

any thoughts?

Morrow was filthy as a step-in closer when Putz went down....they sent him to the minors to stretch him out and build up stamina. He was pretty ordinary in the minors. I doubt he'll do more than 4-5 innings, but the kid is nasty with strike out stuff to get out of jams. If he has his control tonight, he should be solid for a few innings (it's how long he'll last that concerns me).

The Yanks have seen him before and Rodriguez and Abreu have taken him deep in limited AB's.

I'm contemplating a first half SEA play....I just need to dig into some numbers to see if the Mariners can get to Pettite early.

BOL:shake:

Sounds like a good five inning play. Plus toss in the fact that the Yanks played a night game in Tampa then flew all the way to Seattle without a day off!

Wasted way to much time on this but here it is ......

Very hard to trust Bergmann with extra rest IMO . CLearly the splits tell a story but most solid starts I see out of him pitching every 6 days is when he was locked in when first recallled from the minors or away ...

10 starts on 6 days Nats are 3-7 the Over is 7-2-1 including 4-0-1 L5 starts...better run support ...
3 1 5 2 3 5 10 0 4 9

9starts on normal rest 2-7 and 8-1 UNDER . Pitches better and consistently but also gets no run support though it has improved somewhat slightily .
1 0 0 2 0 3 0 6 1 ....

Interesting and the key aspect appears to be he simply has better on the road since his recall in may .

AWAY:
10 starts see 8 very quality outings along with 1 shelling and 1 lackluster start ...
May (2starts) 15 inn 10 h 4 r 4Hrs 2bb 17K
June (2starts) 10.2 inn 13h 9r 5er 1hr 4 bb 4K ( the terrible start was in here)
July (3starts) 17 inn 17h 10 r 8ER 5Hrs 6bb 11k
AUgust (3starts) 19.2 inn 17h 9r 8er 3hr 6bb 17 K
Total : (10starts) 61.2 inn 57H 32R 25ER 18BB 49 K 13Hrs

So to me 2 issues HR ball but does allow alot of solo shots to his credit and command seems to struggle with ita times on 6 days rest ...

His August stats seem closer to his initial return starts in May asthe K per innings creeps up ..does struggle vs LHB at 300 BAA which is an issue when facing ATL since they have so many ....

10 away starts team is 2-8 and total is 6-3-1UNDER combination low run support and solid pitching

Interesting IMO is that Bergmann did do a solid job vs the Braves in the past and they probably were a tad tougher lineup . He faced them 5 x in 07 and Nats went 4-1 with his worse outing being the 5th and last time which was also a consecutive start or B2B vs ATL and that was 6.2 inn 8h 4 r 3bb 3k 2hrs.

Gotay 1-1 2b rbi if he should play today

Now his ATL history although rocky in 2008 after success in 06 and07 certainly shows he is capable of solid outings vs them. Also pitching @ ATL he has done very well as evidenced by the 3 career starts and a relief ap in 08 was his best outing of three vs ATL so far ...

Better on the road and worse much worse at night ...guessing alot of home starts at night though

Of the 10 starts on 6 days he only pitched away three times. Two of them were very solid at Minny and recently at Philly who was slumping miserably at the time. He did not picth well @ Pitt after being shelled at home after a solid run of starts so could be just he didnt have anything those starts......

Jones is batting .375 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs in his last 30 games against the Nationals.

The Braves will give the ball to Jair Jurrjens (11-9, 3.59 ERA), who is 0-2 with a 6.43 ERA in his last four starts.

The right-hander was solid against the Nationals on Sunday, allowing three runs and five hits with seven strikeouts in six innings while not factoring in the decision of an 8-4 loss. He’s 0-1 with a 4.19 ERA in three starts against Washington

The Nats also appear to have lost Ronnie Belliard there prized utilyman . Certainly under the radar to most Belliard has hit 287 11hrs 46rbi in only 296abs (22 doubles and 37bbs) . Pretty impressive since last year he needed 511 abs to amass similiar numbers ...290 avg 11hrs 35 doubles 58rbis only 34bbs...

conclusion (s):
Feel the best plays on the game seem to be UNDER AND ATLANTA. Most of the ATL play come from the logic both guys faced there opponents this weekend . Jurrjens pitched solid and lost and Bergmann was shelled but his Nats won 9-8... think that has to be adjusted to the way it should have logically happened and well Bergmann has the tough luck loser label in 2008.

For some reason the Zona series has always stuckout to me for WASH as the moment there offense really tanked . After suprising Micah owings and winning 7-4 studs Haren and Webb dealt consecutive shutouts this was way back in the end of May . Injuries had begun to strike and I know the offense sputtered particualrily vs RHP.

Since that WIN @ Zona opposing Micah Owings the nats are 4-23 on the road vs RHSP. They actually LOST 11 straight before the break against RH away ....scoring....
0 0 1 1 2 5 2 3 2 0 5 ----Thats 8 games with 2 or less , 3runs 1 x and 5 runs 2x

Since the break they have shown some imporvement as has there overall offense as players have returned (now they have lost Belliard and Flores possibly for a bit as well) and gone 4-12 . They beat Jurrjens @ ATL after the break , beat Cook and Jimenez who have struggled in the 2nd H @ Colorado and recently they spanked the Cubs pen after Marquis started and was great for 5 innings (pen allowed a GS in the 6th). In this stretch the offense scored
6 8 4 0 2 0 6 9 0 1 4 0 13 2 1 0 ---Wins all overs and high scoring , 5x shutout , 1 or 2 runs 2x each , 4runs 2x and then 6 runs once ...so only 1 loss did they manage any runs scoring 6 but also 1st game after the AS break..also L10 losses vs RHSP away the offense has regressed again being shutout in 5 scoring 1or 2 twice each and a 4 spot ...so 9 of 10 scored 2 or less runs in recent losses excluding WINS

So thats 4-23 AWAY vs RHSP which they went 7-7 in that time vs LHSP away. At home in this stretch since the ZONA series late MAY they went 7-15 prebreak and 11-10 since but once can see how STREAKY they have been post break...they get swept , they sweep someone , they get swept twice , and now are 8-1 swweping 2 series in the process.....(18-25 overall poor vs LHSP losing 9 straight at one point from 5.25 to beating Kershaw 11-2 who was quickly demoted then beat Reyes 9-8 before losing to Hamels 4-0 ....so looks like 2-10 vs LHSP and 16-15 vs RHSP the opposite of the road occurrences---Opposing SP was nothing special on the road IMO)

So again 4-23 AWAY for WASH when facing an OPPOSING RHSP since defeating Owings late May @ Zona . The 4 wins all OVERS , the 23 LOSSES show 15-6-2 UNDER because they consistenly struggled on offense and tend to recieve decent solid pitching ...

When shutout on the road recently they are 1-8 the next game with 7 of those coming on the road (recently as in since late May) . Only win 4-3 @ Philly vs Moyer a LHSP. Actually all season that was there 1st win after being shutout away showing an 1-10 mark in that situation with all but 3 games coming again on the road (so 1-7 if the next game is still away) ...7-1 UNDER after in those scoring 2 0 2 0 2 2 0 4---Again last occurrence was the 4-3 win ...

Jurrjens has had some struggles of late but think he has some decent work of late in that stretch as the Shea game he was hurt in teh 1st by defense and was decent last time @ Wash but the pen allowed 5 runs late ....He has lost 2 winnable games Vs Wash in 08 maybe even 3 and stands at 0-3 vs them. He has dropped 4 of 5 Since July 1st at home pitching well in 3 , medicore in the 1 vs Wash and bad recently vs FLA which suprisingly was the win ..so he has lost 3 games he should have won but run support was absent ...

21 inn 23 9r in those 3 starts vs Philly , SF and STL...got I think 4 runs maybe 5 runs of support think 1 1 2 or maybe 1 2 2 to lazt to check)

I see Kotchman back from a long layoff could show some rust(also 8-52 as a Bravo vs RHSP) , clearly CHipper and McCann are key in the middle even Infante has good RH splits but facing a solid one like Bergmann could prove trouble some as he stranded a bunch yesterday , Escobar probably out , Kotsay and Tex obvioulsy traded leaves Prado as the best fill in RHP at .340 as the orher regs Johnson , Francouer and Blanco 2 of which I mentioned had porr histort are hovering near 250 for the season vs RHSP. Of note CHipper had 3 walks yesterday so you wonder if nats are saying let someone else beat us ??

For Nats Flores likely out and Belliard is out and he had 3 of the 5 hits yesterday . Zimmerman is at 295 away with Dukes and Guzman in the 270s , Harris and Milledge in the 255-260 range . Then vs RHP Guzman is 312 (so he is key ) , Dukes 284 , Zimm 270 , Milledge 260 , Harris 247...

So just looking at what has occurred while the price seems high for ATL chances are again they run out the better lineup and might have a few better alternatives in the pen then WASH. Also have to give a slight edge to Braves SP Jurrjens . Effectively this is the cheapest we see ATL with Jurrjens vs WASH in 2008 ...like -120 and -130 away which would translate into -180 + at home IMO and was -210 at home v Lannan ...he faced Balester and Hill in Wash which is very similiar IMO to Bergmann ...

Want to look more at the pens as well but lean strongly to UND 8.5 (maybe U4.5 1st 5 inn ) and Braves ML...thinking like 4-2 game maybe 5-2 0r 5-3 worst case but feel comfortable at 4-2....

nats are 4-16 off a shutout winning the last one and only on eon the road .....

nats are 7-18 away with 8 or 8.5 totals(19-41 L60)

Braves are 8-2 athome laying between 150 and 175

Braves are 14-7 UND on Fridays in 2008 and 20-8-1 L29 UND on FRI

Braves are 38-20 UND after a WIN and 39-20 UND against teams below .500

nauert behind the dish has seen his Nats games go 11-1-1 UNDER whenhe did there games past several years

nats 12-33 in game 2s and 6-19 after LOSSES (24%)

Despite all this INFO just medium sized plays for me at the moment . Not sure how I play it yet but again U8.5 and ATL .....for those interested 15 of the 23 losses were by 2+ runs .....

Also Nats 8-25 L33 away since sweeping Sea which includes 3-1 @ Col and 2-1 at ATL after the break....so 3-23 the other series..includes 4 sweeps 2 which were 4 game sets ..

Sounds like a good five inning play. Plus toss in the fact that the Yanks played a night game in Tampa then flew all the way to Seattle without a day off!

Think late momentum could carry over from the 5 spot especially with Morrow making his 1st start in the majors . Fatigue more of an issue probably tmrw then today ....the key is who is Andy Pettitte at this point IMO?? Seattle has hit some LHP lately but at Safeco not as well if I recall minus the scrubs ...

Is there any after-effect to be expected due to the double header the royals played? after all they won both. and who knows they could go on a mini roll the kind the nationals were just on

Pre-game.com mlb match ups. been a little lax putting it up recently but its available today. Brandon lang 15 dime play on Oakland. Is there a vomit icon?

Anybody know the status on Carlos Quentin?

Sox slugger Carlos Quentin to have wrist surgery

White Sox slugger Carlos Quentin will undergo surgery Monday on his fractured right wrist and will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks.

Quentin didn't rule out returning but called his right wrist fracture "a freak thing." He said he hurt it while fouling off a pitch in his final at-bat Monday, slamming his right hand against the knob of the bat.

Quentin denied strongly that he slammed his hand against a locker in Boston.

"I'm staying optimistic," Quentin said while ruling out reports the injury is career-threatening.

A screw will be inserted to aid with the healing process.

Would say scoresandodds.com or statfox but of the stats they track I dont seem to see this one as accurate ....

SportsNut - Any Cub/Reds thoughts?

Cubs are probably going to snap this losing streak at any time, and as BetCrimes points out, when they score runs, the game does tend to go OVER.

However, Arroyo is 13-10, 4.97 ERA this season, not great by any means, but has been pitching well.

He has beaten the Cubs twice this season, although in one start he gave up 5 ER in 7 IP. His latest outing against the Cubs was on August 20th when he gave up just 1 ER in 7 IP and won 2-1. He has pitched solidly at home this season, with a 4.03 ERA. In 5 of his last 6 starts, he has been very good, including the Cubs win (2 ER in 7 IP, 1 ER in 9 IP, 1 ER in 7 IP, 5 ER in 6.1 IP, 2 ER in 6 IP, 1 ER in 6 IP).

Soriano, .222 in 36 AB
Ramirez, .242 in 33 AB
Edmonds, .241 in 29 AB
Lee, .231 in 26 AB
Theriot, .286 in 21 AB
DeRosa, .500 in 18 AB

Meanwhile, the Cubs throw Ted Lilly tonight (13-8, 4.23 ERA). He's been better away (4.03 ERA) than at home (4.45 ERA), and also better at night than an day (Day ERA of 4.09).

He was the losing pitcher in the 2-1 game to Arroyo on August 20th, and in the 12-7 loss (again to Arroyo) on July 10th. He also lost to them 9-2 back in April so 2 out of 3 bad performances here (6.32 ERA overall).

Phillips: .056 in 18 AB
Encarnacion: .294 in 17 AB
A.Gonzalez: .333 in 15 AB
Keppinger: .308 in 13 AB
Votto: .333 in 12 AB

Keep in mind that Griffey (.357 AVG) and Dunn (.222 AVG) are no longer there.

thanks guys for the status of Quentin. that's gotta hurt them on the field and mentally.

Huge loss.

Only saving grace is that they do have enough veteran guys to replace him - Swisher/Griffey can probably in LF some, opening up Brian Anderson (their best defensive CF) more time.

Being that Arroyo has won the last H2H vs Lilly this year and Lilly has lost despite not pitching well vs Reds on more then a few occassions did roll with Cubs 1/2 unit but also Over 1 unit ....

Just saw Votto HRed 2-0 reds talk about someone OWNING a pitcher ...he signlehandley beat Lilly and the Cubs in April ....

BOL:cheers:Naturally played ATL and under

Twins off 14 road games and this is their first game back home. Galarraga is 0-3 in 4 games with a 4.56 ERA vs Twins this year. I'd like to think this is a good spot for Galarraga to actually pitch well and you also get him at a decent priced dog.

Baltimore has gone 86 games without posting consecutive Under results.
They are 56-23-7 to Over during this period and are 19-0-3 to Over off their last 22 Under results, and plays Friday off an Under result on Wednesday.
Give it up for that Oriole bullpen....this trend couldn't keep going without you!!

fucking yost dumbest motherfucker ever brings in gagne in a one run game while torres is rested.... with giles coming up

Rodriguez doubled to deep right. Giles homered to right.
