In light of the above, the question is -

also considering that the WS have scored 5+ run totals in 9 of their last 10 games vs left-handed starters (the sole exception vs Cliff Lee)

- what RS is Floyd likely to receive here, vs left hander Braden: 0-2 runs, or 5+ runs? Add that answer to Oakland pretty much a given (dare I say it) to score at least 2-3 runs since it's a home game (& in scoring 5 vs TBY in regulation, finally got some kind of offensive flow back into their bats) and the 8.5 slotted for this game seems if not somewhat small, at least well doable.

of course the Ump & weather are unknown variables, and with the expectation of CWS leading the scoring way the question of whether a side play is a better prospect than a total one has also to be addressed (again, a question for which Ump & lineups knowledge is needed in order to be answered).

Liking that one myself. Hoping Silva gives up 9 on his own. I hit the over in Liriano's last game quite nicely. Have a hunch this one might not be as "easy".
 
I immediately don't like it because Liriano could potentially hold Seattle to nothing, and I don't see the line as anything untoward.

To make an Over bet, I have to either (1) think the chances are near to nil that either team is held to nothing, or (2) in considering such a play with 1 or 2 good starters going (therefore presenting that shutdown possibility), then the price & line have to be seen to be out of whack with my perception of the situational aspects to make betting into that risk worth my time.

Seattle has scored 4, 8, 4, 3, 2, 4, 2, 3, 2, 4, 3 & 8 runs on the road vs AL lefties this season. one of those 8s was at Arlington, so pretty much Seattle's offense blows on the road vs lefties - the 2 best starters they've faced (Lee & Pettitte) they've managed 2 runs against.
Liriano is still in his infancy off the DL, but 6 IP for 0 ERs in his only home start back, applied against Seattle's generally shitty road form vs lefties, doesnt quench the fear I'd have that he could potentially hold the Mariners to "nothing" (figuratively or literally).

In light of that, to take Over you'd be expecting the Twins scoring to lead the way, probably to a margin win of more than 1 run. It's my general philosophy now that if you have an Over that is likely needing 1 side to lead the way, then take that side before the total (hence my taking BOS -2.5 yesterday before an Over which was always attractive because Mendoza was a starter, just couldnt trust Lester to definitely give up runs - same dilmemma here: Over is attractive because of Silva, but can you trust Liriano to definitely give up the runs). Plus of course a Twins win means 3 less outs with which to get you runs.

Good stuff man.I haven't found anything I like. May tail someone but it doesn't look good and I hate taking ML's. I am a total guy.I might just have to break down some games I am not too fond off.Kind of looking at that Toronto/Redsox under 8.5. I think the Jays hold down the Sox a lot better than the Rangers...lol.
 
Since July the 21st, the Texas Rangers are...

- 9-2 SU in games which they've scored at least 6 runs (9-1-1 to Over)

Roy Halladay is 5-1-3 to Over his last 9 starts in which the loser wasn't shutout, at an average of 9.22 runs/game.

For the season generally -
O/U 7-4-1 - avg 9.16 runs/game when the loser scores at least 2 runs
O/U 1-9-2 - avg 4.58 runs/game when the loser scores 0-1 runs
 
After watching the Giants game today, I got a better idea of the 3 new rookies on the Giants roster:

Ishikawa is a great defensive firstbaseman.....he's big, has great range, is quick and has a great glove. At the plate he has power but not great plate discipline.

Sandoval is questionable behind the plate....nerves or not, he had a couple of passed balls that looked bad. At the plate, he looks like a mini-Prince Fielder. He had some good AB's, but got himself out a couple of times after getting ahead in the count....but he looks like a legit future MLB player.

Rohlinger looks like he's twelve. He had a couple of good AB's, but everytime they panned to him, he looked like he was gonna piss himself. Decent 3rd baseman....I think his day 1 errors were nerves and not fundamentals.


Summary:

If these three get comfy and start scoring some runs at all, the Giants could have value going forward. Young or not, they are an upgrade from the players they replaced. Castillo was a space cadet and has been dogshit for close to 2 months, Bowker was a defensive liability (and other than an early power surge, a offensive liability) and Holm was mediocre at best.

The Giants still suck ass....but if the call-ups get any offensive rhythm goinging on the road, I'll look to play them when they come back to SF to play the throw-away game against FLA.
 
Good stuff TDizz. Only problem I would have on the surface is its unlikely that young players perform well on the road . They best thing that could happen in terms of "value" might be SF shitting the bed for a week or two while these kids get adjusted. Develop the perception they suck and get some extra dollars pumped into these spreads then hope they get comfortable and contribute . Dont see much reason to take them nearterm especially since there bullpen is below par. Just my thoughts for the nearterm.

Other stuff: the key to Roy Halladay especially at home which he is not seems to be having him pitch on the 6th day . Which I kinda think Litsch was brought up and Halladay pushed back to Boston series which is the smart thing to do....

Forget facing Liriano what have the Twins done with the bats to want one to play an over ? Silva is coming "home; after all ....Actually think the price is to high for Minny .......he was less vs Ginter who is worse then Silva and not much difference bewteen Sea and CLE lineup or there bullpens IMO.......

Some thoughts ;

Halladay / Tor ML : First thing no one mentioned was Paul Byrd will making his debut but the most signifcant part of that is he just pitched a CG @ Tor vs Roy Halladay on 8/09 which was 6 days ago !!!! Real PLUS for Toronto playing well in DET series having to see Byrd again just a few days later . Terrible for Paul Byrd is Boston gets Roy Halladay when he tends to be sharpest pitching on 6 days but also BOSTON lineup is double fucked !!! They didnt have the luxury of facing Halladay this past weekend as Tor did with Byrd but also Boston faced a scrap heap of pitchers in 3 days and now has to face an actually SP let alone Roy Halladay .

The books know full well they opened Tor as favs to get extra BOSTON money coming . Byrd has been excellent but this is IMO a terrible spot for him. He relies on ebing crafty and now has to trick the same lineup again which he did so well on the weekend. Remember though in the 1st 4 innings we had him on the ropes and didnt knock him out.......

Halladay threw a very good gem at home early on vs Boston which was in the midst of some crazy travel but also threw a gem @ Fenway he lost 1-0 in the b9th . Now since then Boston has traded Manny and Lowell just went to the DL.

Thats 8 starts pitch with an extra days rest and he has 2 medicore starts and 6 excllent ones.

Halladay's high pitch count is a season high and probably career high but he has thrown 118,119, and 121 past few starts with no il effects afterwards and had a stretch late in 2007 where he was regularly throwing 120+ pitches .

Byrd has been solid in 5 career starts @ Fenway allowing 38h in 31 but 7hrs as well.(4.09 ERA)

Even with a different team would be suprised to see Paul Byrd OUTPITCH Halladay twice in one week.

Halladay off a bad start has payback for being outdueled by Byrd on Sat , payback for his 1-0 loss @ Fenway , and by payback I simply mean extra motivation....plus Tor probably feels its alive in the playoff race with Yanks falling apart and TB falling apart healthwise ......

Thanks Nawlins. Pretty interesting stuff. I dont usually look at totals until gameday though . Seems like its obvious why you cant find a play since your totals are pretty much exactly the game totals posted.

Outside the 3 shutouts, they've averaged 6.81 runs/game when they've scored any runs at all.

And of course amongst that sequence are the 10 ERs they scored off 6.2 IP by Pettitte at Yankee stadium in June.

correct me if im wrong, i think royals are 22-13 against lefties this year,
i know pettite starts strong but he winds down a little bit around the 5th/6th inning

i actually was leaning the yanks as they got a day off after a big road trip, i expect their bats to be alieve this weekend and maybe a sweep but after doing a little background check, i am now second guessing my lean and this is the one game the royals i think could steal, meche has been solid all around

any thoughts on this game? thanks

SD has had an under result in all 20 home series this year. I've been playing this for the last 7 or 8 series as a chase.

Talking anybody off the underdog is a no win situation situation because it isn't hard to make a case for the favorite, but here's my take. While they have been good off lefties, I'm sure that Mark Greasy Lonick had something to do with it as he was hitting .299 with 3Hrs, 24 RBI's and 36 runs scored before he went out for the year on 8/1.

KC won their next three games at home, two vs CWS and one vs Bos(Meche). They have since lost 7 of their last eight and look pathetic. I don't know how much of a team leader MG was, but I don't think a team like KC can make up that kind of player's contribution on the field. However, the ONLY pitcher that I think is worth a shot is Meche as Petitte is subject to blow up as you stated.

However,this is just MY opinion! If you don't like it, I have plenty more!:smiley_acbe:

Robertson/Waters????? Don't care if Det hasn't scored runs lately. Two aweful bullpens and skeptical SP. Over 10.5 for me please.

Great analysis by Tee. Cubs look like a nice play along with the Cards at almost even money with what seems like the Reds have given up. Tor ML could also be a play.

Excellent point bro. Grudz actually tore it up vs LHP and for along while so was the KC lineup. However last 2 starts vs LHP were Liriano and Buerhle I believe . Offense was non existant . German has hit at times but is a huge drastic , drop from Grudz 's somewhere near 380 avg vs LHP . That leaves you with 2 LH in Gordon and Teahen who do next next nothing vs LHP as well . All depends onwhat Jose , Olivo and Butler do in the middle ...I am sure Pettitte off 2 losses has that 12-11 game in the back of his head ...His arm looks sound the guy has heart evidenced by the LAA start on Sunday so I dont expect a rough outing here....

I have to look at this further and yah real hard to want to lay -200 with NY now . Have to look into KC pen situation as well .

Want to look at Meche's past 2 starts . I know vs Boston he started slow and alowed 2 1st inn runs then settled in and believe his last start was the game KC won in extra 5-4 that Minnesota handed to them . So it appars Meche is ripe to drop a start more then Pettitte . Also Meche record vs the AL East is unimpressive coming from 2 bad teams Sea and KC.....

I use it to help determine a side basically. Then I just do the ole fashion way by looking at stats to justify the side. Last night for example I liked the Cubs/Braves over but didn't play it because I wasn't sure about how Glavine would come out from the lay off.The program I created is just using power rankings, XERA and bullpen expected runs. I put these all together in the program and get averages on the power rankings through the teams hitting splits. With Xera I then take the expected runs per game for the pitcher and the same with the bullpen. I have put this on a google document for everyone to look at all the power rankings,Xera, and bullpens.

I am on DET and yeah hard to pass on the over . The reason Balt tends to go over vs LHP is they somehow pitch terribly themselves when facing a LHP. It becomes that blowout mentality . I really dont see Balt as a lineup that hits LHP well wouldnt say they are poor but just sort of medicore depending on how Millar , Mora , Hernandez and Payton are swinging it ....

So if Waters is terrible again..over ...but if he cant be somewhat serviceable and throw 6 innings allowing 5 runs the UNDER has a chance ...DET pen is going through more what STL did . Trouble in close games getting key outs but has some quality guys out there....I could see a 7-3 game....DET not hitting LH as well as they should missing Thames and Guillen lately ..

Hard to pass on the over though....also Balt long relief ?? who is available...:shake:

This is a good point because the thing to many people do is looking at SP . Your betting teams not the SP and to many people dont approach it that way. I myself often make that mistake expecting a SP who is being dogged by perception and opinions to pitch well yet his team still loses .

Anyway the only way Cliff Lee has value IMO vs LAA if he is very sharp and could go very deep into that game probably into the 8th inning at least . We know CLE has a bad pen and KRod is off a blown save so less likely he blows another here . I am not a big fan of the CLE lineup and if your team cant score then its to to see value in them.....the Tribe was dogged every game when AL East leader came in before the break but dont recall all the SP matchups not sure if Lee pitched ...know Kaz was like -160, think Garza was -140ish...have to check ...

A below 500 team with a medicore at best offense laying this is kinda crazy IMO....So LAA is one of my leans...also note LAA has not lost a SERIES to an AL team in a very LONG < LONG time which I meant awhile back but cant recall the numbers but it woulf take 5 minutes of looking at the game logs to figure out ........

Angels are 4-0 in their last 4 Friday games. Kennedy, Ponson, Burres, & Bucholz were the 4 SP's they faced during this 4-game run. They're obviously not quite the caliber of a Cliff Lee. Gallagher was the SP in their last Friday loss.

KC just 2-7 past 9 games and 4-9 since losing Grudz . Both recent wins came when Meche started in 1 run affairs. After losing Grudz they smoked LHs Buerhle and Richards from Chi but since have looked bad vs Liriano(finally got to him in the 6th - soso line) and Buerhle a second time well actually a fourth time in which he was very good 3 times . Maybe the HEAT hurt Buerhle that day but he was tattooed as was Richard . Now comes word that Olivo has begun his suspension yesterdy and will miss the NY series. Another HUGE loss vs LHP.

Olivo 315 7hrs 15 rbi in 73atbats usually was the DH. Meaning a LH probably Maier or Gload DHs or fills in .
Grudz was .395 0Hrs 7 RBIs

Pettitte has ben hit or miss at home 7 real good starts , 4 bad ones and 1 medicore of the 12 which was his season debut off the DL.

He IMO got back on track from his slump @ LAA losing a tough game where NYY failed again to score runners from 3rd with less 2 out . LAA hung around and eventually won 4-3. The runs off Pettitte outside of the first one where hardly smoked hits ..a dunker in front of the LF after a balk and then a sac fly I believe was the other ...I expect a good effort ....

Meche is not pitching well his past 2 starts he is surviving . Last time out he trailed 2-0 and KC tied it which he immediately gave back th elead in the 7th . Which was a game to avoid a home sweep.

Now the Boston start he was on the ropes early and got out of it . Also 1st road game w/o Manny so his past 2 starts he had real spots to pitch in where you could expect his opponent might be a bit flat or off there game ...Twins trying for a road sweep and Boston off a home sweep going to KC ...

Both teams he was really a home dog on the open closing @ PKem . So that doesnt make this line suprising really as one would guess if Baker or Bucholz are valued so strongly against him Pettitte would be in teh 130's vs him. Which does make the -180 opener probably a bit cheap as -200 would seem fair. Doesnt look fair until you do the math.....

Meche got the most run support 4 and 5 runs . Which the 5 spot the tieing 2 came off errors and wild pitches and in extras they won it ......

Now Meche has a good track record vs NYY and at the Stadium but his 2007 performance in 3 starts was probably his weakest vs them.

-If Meche wasnt off consecutive shaky efforts in good spots which his team won , if KC wasnt slumping badly on offense , if KC had Olivo and Grudz , if Pettitte didnt turn the corner last start but has dropped 3 consecutive starts then I would say KC has value .....

Truth is even with NYY slumping there lineup is better and there pen is better . At best you can call MEche and Pettitte a wash but chances are Pettitte steps up and Meche regresses so they really dont have a edge there either especially factoring in KC is the easier lineup on paper......

-200 = 67% chance of winning ....

what makes it clear that KC chances are better then 1 in 3 to win here ?? I would say there chances at best are 25% or 1 in 4 .....

Think we see 5-3 game would probably even lay -1.5 here with KCs lineup slumping but they coud possible score vs a LHP.

Pettitte is 4-8 when he allows a HR and 9-4 when he doesnt and NYY is now 3-5 with him starting since July1st .....He is 6-6 at home ..of his wins 5 he allowed 2 runs or less and the exception 12-11 win vs KC . In all 6 losses he allowed 5 runs or more.....by him I mean NY allowed tha game in total....

KC just doesnt come playing well or swinging well and minus 2 key hitters . There SP looks ripe to regress and there pen saw some action in Chiacgo to which they got no rest while NY did . Only 2 plays that make sense are NYY ML or -1.5 RL and one of the stronger opinions I have had on NYY recently:cheers:

Damon was gonna see alot of CF action in the near future so not a bad move ...get melky some atbats and confidence rather then bench him still only like 23years old .....

Sexson move suprising and disappointing since all we did was elevate Ransom and Gardner but guess at bats would be limited vs RH with Nady aboard.

Giese to DL but no move that have seen for an arm and talks of Joba in the pen when he returns........:36_11_6:
 
Hey SportsNut. Thanks for your continuous contribution. I understand your points above, but I am on KC tonight. If this game was Yanks -125 I'd see your point more clearly, but at almost 2:1, there is tremendous value in KC.

There are many reports that Pettitte may be burned out. His last 3 starts are troubling. Here is something i read a week ago:

Tired Pettitte still set to start


Andy Pettitte says he feels well enough to pitch, but there are those within the Yankees organization that believe the lefthander may be suffering from some fatigue in his pitching arm.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, there was some internal discussion about skipping Pettitte’s next turn through the rotation to give him some extra rest.
But with the rotation already thin following the recent injury to Joba Chamberlain, one which forced the Yankees to bring up Ian Kennedy from the minors, Pettitte is still scheduled to make his start on Sunday in Anaheim.
“He’s starting Sunday,” manager Joe Girardi said. “Whether I start him on five days or six times the next time, I don’t know. But he’s our starter Sunday.”
Asked about his situation, Pettitte told the Daily News that he still planned to pitch on Sunday.
“That hasn’t even been discussed,” Pettitte said when asked if he might miss a start. “Do I feel as good as I’d like to? No. But it’s that time of year.”
Still, the fact that there is some concern over the lefty’s arm should be disconcerting, since the Yankees are already without Chamberlain, Chien-Ming Wang and Phil Hughes in the starting rotation.
Pettitte has been hit hard in each of his last two outings, giving up nine runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Angels on July 31 and five runs in five innings on Tuesday night against the Rangers. While he is not one to make excuses, a tired arm would explain his recent results.
Kennedy is set to return from the minors to make the start on Friday in Anaheim, while Dan Giese is lined up to pitch Saturday against the Angels.
Pettitte is 12-9 with a 4.34 ERA this year, combining with Mike Mussina (14-7, 3.44) to solidify the top of the rotation in the absence of Chien-Ming Wang. With Joba Chamberlain on the disabled list and likely out for at least three weeks with rotator cuff tendonitis, an injury to Pettitte would leave yet another huge hole to fill for the Yankees during their postseason drive.

webb has been just dominant against the stros- 4-1 with a 1.75 ERA...
bipolar wandy i wil only back at home so ill take a shot here.

wandy got hit hard in zona last year but mr bipolar had a solid outing when he faced them at home (4 hits 1 ER 2 BB's)

i just tthink its a good time for the houston bats to cool off after a big offensive output against the lowly giants....

and we know zona has struggled vs LHSP of late - .220 against em L10.

no ump there yet so only thing that worries me

but i took 1 u under 8 (-20).... and 1u under 4 1st half (-10)

I'm feeling very grossed out with a -150 ml as i can just feel them ready to come crashing back down to earth. The pen has major issues AND they are over-worked. Kuo pitched the 2 inning save last night and broxton is shakey as a 3 legged chair. Park seems to be the middle reliever today. He has good stuff at home, but my least favorite between kuo and beimel. Park has been prone to the longball and if any team were to jack him on a pitch, well...they're facing them tonight. Billingsley always seems to start solid with a glimpse of brilliance and some idiot commits an error on defense in 5th-6th inning and kills his that killer instinct of his, resulting in juiced bases or runs.

Parra has been quite the post all-star break performer as he is now the 3rd best pitcher on the team. I haven't watched him close enough to see if he has overcome his road woes, but dodger stadium is a friendly pitching park. With CC coming up in the series, I dont know how urgent the brewers feel about winning tonight, but they sure as hell have been playing some good baseball.

There is no way in hell the dodgers would be -150 in the absence of Manny.(mayyybe blake) So naturally, i think you have to ask yourself how will Parra hold up against the man? Getting hit at a 1.5 whip against righties, although a small sample size, may provide some insight as well as his night splits that are noticeably different during the day. How do the dodgers do against pitchers for the first time? I don't know, cuz i never cared to pay attention. Never seemed like they could hit ANYBODY pre-manny anyways..

Bottom line, i think this game may deserve a strong lean to 1st 5 under due to the shit bullpen and nelson bhp. I have however been burnt by such small 3.5,4 totals for 1st 5. Looking for any angle to lay off.....OR to put 1/2 my bankroll on it and buy 5 Corona bombers and get wasted!! :tiphat:

I'm surprised they ever picked up the Clubhouse Cancer Richie Sexson. Who doesn't know when a team swallows a multi-million dollar contract and releases the player in mid season, that he is total garbage? I gues GM Cashman would have raised his hand. :smiley_acbe:
 
i like kuo, pigeon. His k-rate is sexy. As stated, I dont like park. Kuo will not pitch tonight due to the 2inning save.

Did you get off Toronto? I noticed the line went up to +112, so I took it for 1st 5 and for the game. I don't like the fact that Halladay threw so many pitches last time, but I think you made a very valid point about motivation. I've have always like the pay back factor especiall when the pitcher was a big favorite and now is a small "dod" in the oppenents park. I'm from Missouri and you will have to "show me" that Byrd can function as a favorite after being a big "Dog" most of his life!!! Of course if you are not on this play, please tell me what made you get off! Thanks in advance!
