Yet another study in extremes, the Mets last 21 games of all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7 & 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5 & 7 run totals.

10 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 totals of 4-6 runs.
10 totals of 7+ runs.

Cincinnati Reds last 35 road games of offense -

16 totals between 0-2 runs .... O/U 4-10-2 ... 1-15 SU (7 opp. lefties)
_5 totals between 3-4 runs ..... O/U 2-3 ........ 2-3 SU (no opp. lefty)
14 totals of 5 or more runs ..... O/U 11-3 ...... 9-5 SU (8 opp lefties)

Another team who rarely delivers anything inbetween, esp. vs lefties.

Oswalt at -130 looks like a good play vs. the Nationals bats.

I played already Oswalt (-1) +102
and Lee Indians -111

Astros
have much better team and Oswalt looks very good lately. Astros also with day off and Nationals still playnig (and I have Arizona ML...) :seeya:

TB will face another lefty and this is end of story. And they will face very good lefty. For -111, thanks.

leans:
Rockies +126
Phillies RL
Brewers RL (hope they will play final with Red Sox and win World Series)
Padres (-1)
Dodgers(-1) or RL don't know yet
under 1st 5in in Toronto
HALLADAY is 11-5 when starting against NY YANKEES with an ERA of 2.99 and a WHIP of 1.182
Angels +100

Lohse has been pretty solid as of late; 7-0 in last 9 starts and appears to be undervalued against Shittsburgh.

Phillies look cheap tomorrow too against tired Snakes, at only 7-to-5.

Cookie has struggled as of late and Mets have won 6 straight. Break coming at a bad time for them but if this price continues to climb it will be tough not to look at Rockies considering how woefully inconsistent Perez is from start to start.

In ROY we Trust? DC started hitting in the 9th and it carried over for two innings.

Fogg five straight starts (first four rehab) over 100 pitches and was decent last week against soft hitting Senators. Price looks high against Perra.

Peavy returns and I'd love to bet against but my GOD - the Braves never got a hit against LA until at least the fifth inning in every game. He's about a quarter cheaper than I thought he might be. Might even lean Diego if I can get 135 or so.

Florida marching out someone I'd never heard of until earlier today when I did the research - might lean OVER as Stults has the kind of shit the Fish should feast on.

Lee only at -111 vs. slumping Tampon?

Detroit laying a ridiculous price against Perkins, who is the better pitcher in this matchup.

In ROY we trust. Only -113 against the Jankees at home? Where do I sign up?

Texas better offensively than the ChiSox; inclined to think they should be the favorite, not +105.

Felix the King back on the bump for the Seabags; not sure what to bet but the price (-122 Pinny) looks about right.

And Gallagher makes his Oakland debut against the soft-hitting Angels (Howie Kendrick hit 2 homers tonight to fuck me - rest assured if that ever happens again I will quit betting on baseball)...

Usually it does, but I would be a little worried about him coming off an injury.
"I was throwing 70-80 percent when I first got out there, but the last 20 pitches I threw as hard as I could throw and didn't feel anything," Oswalt said.

Cleveland looks tasty again, but is coming off a 13 run effort just asking for Lee to suffer from a lack of runs support?

The Tribe have scored 6+ run totals in 3 straight games once this season, all 3 of those games in Texas (which explains it).
They've totaled 6 & 13 their last 2, so the ceiling is likely to be 4-5 here.

Careful with this one. Going to do a bit more looking before I bite, especially with this atrocious team. Worst I've seen in quite some time. You hit it right on the nose with the lack of run support. These guys are capable of going out and putting up 10+ (like tonight) and then scoring three total runs the next three games. Seems to be practically a crap shoot.

Where the hell is Nut lol, I like Joba tommorrow SN, what do you think?

What about the UNDER in that game?

Love Joba to rebound, Jays lineup kind of weak, Halladay always pitches well against NYY. I like the Under as well, just hope that the bullpens don't enter the game too early.

Well again the points about logical and illogical probably will get lost . Anyway before you jump on the Tor under you should concern yourself with the fact Halladay was pushed back a day so essence this could throw him off . Thats the point about understanding logic. It seems so obvious but there are factors that which get overlooked that could effect the outcome . Wells is Out , Yanks didnt hit ...that total might be 7 by game time and well Halladay is going against NY for the 3rd time this year . So why run an play an under which has no value ...Its not about being opposite its about implying more then a stat sheet.

Perfect example of not being opposite is playing Zona and LAA on Thursday . The games have value . LAA trying to split the series with its ace throwing after it blew a game yesterday and Zona looking to win the series in which in tossed its 2 top SP vs the worst team in the NL. All incentive to play at peak performance . A team like NYY off a scrappy walkoff 1 run win travels to a game @ Pitt which doesnt have much more then an exhibition feel to it and loses 4-2 as the trip to Tor with halladay ondeck probaly holds more weight .

Wasted to much time tonight ....

I would be cautious of Oswalt . I am not sure what to make of him and his bullpen sucks . Houston has nt played well and Tim Redding gets support because his team won so often when he started I think going 11-3 at one point . Also Redding started as an Astro I believe so might have some extra incentive.....havent looked at anything though .....nats suck , nats dont RHP at all ....

Zach Duke is pretty medicore but STL has not a hit a LHP in awhile . They scored 1 vs Moyer , 2 vs Hamels , 2 vs Happ , 1 vs Marshall and 2 vs Lilly this week alone . Lohse is mostly a 6 inning SP away and his road starts are so0so .....looking at Pitt w/o researching .....basically how could STL be a PK vs a LHP at this point if there gonna score 2 runs ??

Parra has really matured but Reds tend to hit medicore LHPs . Fogg got in a groove in the minors and was solid in his 1st start once called up . Would look at the REDS ML or +1.5 .

If FLA wins today would probably look at LAD with a LHP Stults.

balt choked today so looking at them in a bounceback spot . Sort of like how Twins won @ Det today. Burres I know is 2 different pitchers depending on days rest . If its extended I believe he is 5-0 and would definetly play him......Boston didnt play that well vs twins .....

Shields vs Lee looks real low total wise. Almost low enough to make yo want to think Over .....illusion ? Again TB doesnt hit LHP so lean that way (CLE)

Another Det over as Galarraga the medicore edition we expected facing Twins for the 10th or 4th time already ....

Yanks bats suck of late as no one is smoking the ball consistently , Wells out , Joba and haladay filthy vs filthy .....want to see days rest for Halladay ......lean Yanks ML ....jays got a gift today and Santa needs it back

mendoza if he can throw strikes gets a great matchup for him in the all RH WSox. Floyd has been so-so away drastic drop from his lights out at home stats....

Seattle lost a tough one played well @ Oak would have to lean Felix but off the DL is a concern especially with the pen.

Garland I think just pitched well vs Oak I think but has career issues vs them ......LAA could be dead after this series in Texas at last Friday ...never seen Gallagher ....tough one.....

Thats all no stats yet just off the top of my head. Waiting for the action to start tmrw.....

since the logical play seems to be the under at 7.5, I think the over will find a way to hit!

Joba has been sharper on the road but NL tems in Pitt and Houston. Halladay more hittable so far at home (l3 at homekinda poor by his standards ) was solid vs NYY so far but NOT lights out (5 runs in 13 inn). Wells is out and joins Matsui and Damon the DL so also alot of missing bats . Jays pen struggling and NYY pen all or nothing .

Halladay on extra rest which he is here due to being pushed back has a 2.27 ERA compared to 3.20 . Gardner looks overmatched for NYY in LF.

Tor played an over series with balt ...

On paper Litsch vs Rasner could be an over ...Pettitte vs tallet on Sunday ....

still lean NYY ML and hard to see anything but an under but no way would I play a total at 7 in the AL unless both teams were cold , both SP were in a groove and both pens sharp...if it hangs at 7.5 runs maybe

Have to look at this tmrw just to tired:shake::cheers:

And if I play the SFG @ Chi game you might want to fade me I just hit my last 9 plays of the night ......thank you Marlins !

Time is never wasted if other learns something from it. Much appreciated SportsNut. :shake:

Something I came across while researching games and watching Jimbo and SN play Teacher and Student.

STL has Lhose going against Pitt. They've played 9 games in 2008. Pitt won first then STL consecutivly back and fourth. If the pattern is correct than STL should be ripe for the Win. Just putting it out there is someone needs to find an extra edge. I still don't like how crappy STL looks vs Lefties.

Shit, Yankees haven't put up more than 4 earned runs on Halladay past couple starts against him. And when they did he went 7, struck out 8 and won the game. Halladay seems to always go deep into the game against NY as well, might lay off.

TST - until the Cards exit their offensive swoon, backing them IMO is throwing money away. That is one bunch of scrubs who can't be saved by Albert alone when they're off offensively. I've learnt to time any Over bets in their games to correspond with their hitting form, opp. starter be damned.

Yet after I say that, I think this is the opponent that gets them back into offensive form.

Just throwing some numbers out:

Brian Burress owns a .382 BAA against Boston. Not a large sample but still indicative. He has been better on the road this season but I don't think he shuts them down here.

Clay Buchholz laying this kind of chalk? Over is the logical play, the line is pretty high though. Thinking I either take over 11 for 2.36 or it's a no play.

Matt Cain, who usually had normal day/night splits is 0-4, 6.32 ERA in day games this season.

Jason Marquis is 3-3, 6.29 ERA at home this season. 4-1, 4.56 ERA in day games.

Would not fade NYM here. Cook is Colorado team ace but their horrid road numbers prevail here. They did beat Milwaukee 2 days ago but I'm thinking do not fade NYM until they lose. Solid price on a streaking team.

Interesting stat:
PHI are 4-12 in their last 16 games as a favorite.

Wow. Suddenly this team is not winning as favorites. Kendrick has solid numbers in last 3 but so does Davis. On the other hand, Arizona is 10-22 in last 32 road games. Philly or nothing.

Thinking Atlanta as well.

Toronto in their last 15 home games vs AL teams (first to latest)....

3, 4, 7, 6, 3, 7, 5, 5, 5, 2, 3, 1, 7, 9 & 6 run totals

....at an avg of 4.87 runs/game.

The 2 dud totals vs F. Hernanadez (from his current 5 game 33 IP for 4 ERs spell) & vs a lefthander (TOR hitting lefties at .231 at home this season).

Toronto has put up 5+ run totals in 4 straight games 3 times previously this season so, even as a generally offensively challenged team, that fact shouldn't be seen as an inertia in & of itself to their producing again.

Halladay has received 7, 1, 4, 7, 5, & 5 totals of runs support at home vs AL teams - just one failure in 6 starts, avg 4.83 runs/game.

Surface indications are a Yankee win = Over.

Lee only at -111 vs. slumping Tampon?

That wat i was thinking as well...it was due to Shields 3-0 L3

Wow. Suddenly this team is not winning as favorites. Kendrick has solid numbers in last 3 but so does Davis. On the other hand, Arizona is 10-22 in last 32 road games. Philly or nothing.

Phillies also coming off that rare rare game where they gave Kendrick no runs support (now 4+ runs in 15 of 18 starts - 83.3% of the time).

Opposition has scored more than 4 runs in just 1 of Kendrick's last 7 starts.

Astros(-1) +102
Nationals are weak. They are still without Zimmerman, Boone, Milledge, Dukes and Johnson. Forget yesterdays game. They couldnt score whole game and that Haren left 2 guys on first and second base. I think he should be replaced in 8th. But ok.
-Houston had day off
-in last 7 games they score 4,6 runs/game
-Nationals in past 7 games 2,4 runs/game and are 1-6.
-I know Oswalt is coming bac from injury, but his last starts were really good. ERA 2,61, whip 1,064. And he pitched against Texas, Marlins and Dodgers. Three solid teams.
-OSWALT is 3-1 when starting against WASHINGTON with an ERA of 2.53 and a WHIP of 0.844
-Redding has 6-3, thats true, but how can I trust to the team who score 2,4 runs/game with that injuries?
-Astros have no problems with injuries in the offense, for me definetly better team.

Indians -111
-I would take this pick for this price no matter what happen in yesterdays game.
-Tampa score 3,9 runs/game against lefties and they will face right now top lefty who has ERA 1,84 at home
-CLEVELAND is 14-3 (+9.7 Units) against TAMPA BAY over the last 3 seasons
-Shields road ERA is 6,09
-Rays road bullpen and Inidans bullpen pretty same

LAA Angels +100
-LA ANGELS is 13-9 (+4.1 Units) against OAKLAND over the last 3 seasons
-Oakland still without Crosby, Chavez, Thomas and also Sweeney is Q.
-Angels score 6 runs/game in last 7
-Oakland just 3,4
-Gallagher last 3 starts Oakland lost and his ERA 4,24. He pitched vs Giants, WS and Tampa.
-fight for the first place.

Dodgers RL +144
-I was on them last night ML. They started without Jones and GArciaparra. Tonight I think they will play and will take this game.
-Marlins don't hit LHP like RHP
-Dodgers improove their hitting in last 7 games.
-Stults last home game was brilliant against White Sox. 9 ininngs and no run.
-Dodgers have to fight for first place, I hope they know, Arizona looks really bad right now. They can make difference right now and take the first place from this shity NL West.
-
Phillies RL +142
-Fading Arizona here. They don't deserve playoffs. Even if they looked great at the begining of the season, they are totally different right now. They struggled with aces on the mound against Nationals, who has problems with injuries. C'mon. And they almost blew that game out yesterday.
-I was reading on covers an article, that Kendrick is the luckiest guy in MLB. I don't care. His ERA is better and better. In last 3 starts 1,80. And he played against Mets, Braves and Athletics. He has also great run support.
-Phillies are killing lefties as well
-Phillies have better pen

Astros(-1) +102

Peldas, while you have a number of good points for the Stros, I have to counter with what would have me pass that one

- HOU hits righties at .230 on the road, .218 their last 10. The time to trust their lineup is vs lefties. Washington isnt much better vs righties, but overall Roy isnt having a great season and this, for him psychologically, is a meaningless fixture outside of simply a way to get back into the groove.

- HOU is 2-7 SU their last 9, exactly what Washington is. Both teams have scored 5+ runs in 3 of their last 4 games. But Wash gets the last AB.

- HOU is 4-10 SU their last 14 road games, Wash is 5-9 SU their last 14 home games.

- Redding has had 4 decent starts out of his last 5 games, and the rightie challenged Stros scored just 3 ERs on 14 IP vs him last season (1.93 ERA).

IMO pass on this shitfest.

Would say if you play Baltimore tomorrow it would have to be first half. Last 5 games the Baltimore pen has given up slightly more than 3 runs a game. Not seeing any reason for that to change

I like Cubs quite a bit. Cain a flyball pitcher could be in trouble fast today......

CUbbies -155 and -1.5 +120 for me.

CUBS-1.5 With the wind blowing out we should see alot of scoring but I don't trust SF even though it Marquis. Looks what the Mets pitching staff did to them. Cubbies are $ in day games. Taking a small shot with the RL. They should be pumped for 2marrow and Harden.

Felix returns with a bang for the M's... that's my opinion. Satyr, weigh in on your team.

Angels/A's Under... Has LAA seen Gallagher before? Oakland not the best of bats, and Anaheim has not been swinging well as of late. Garland should handle his business vs OAK bats.

Is there any reason not to put a good bet on Minnesota? Perkins has pitched well against Detroit, and Gallaragga struggles with the Twins. The only thing that spooks me is that Detroit will probably want this game more after losing yesterday but still.......

gallagher has some decent stuff. Saw him on Sunday night baseball against the white sox and there was a lot of movement and decent velocity on his ball... curve ball looked the best. I think it's enough to stump seattle to just a couple runs or so.

gallagher is throwin against the halos

but you're right - he has an upside. Velocity is great, doesn't really have more than two pitches, and confidence is the issue.

SF @ Chc : as everyone knows SF played poorly all around in their series vs. the mets. mets have been playing better lately but SF played like shit too. they had an avg .101 (9-89) no home runs and only 3 runs in the 3 game series. the pitching was a letdown w/ an ERA @ 6.00 (starters 5.40, relievers 7.00, ouch)
SF has the third most games decided by one run this year, and it was the same last year, they had the most games in the majors decided by 2 or less (94). they didnt win many of those games but i would be hesitant to take -1.5 cubs. i rarely take -1.5 in MLB just because it gets shady sometimes, but it has value at times as well. SF is also hitting an MLB-best .297 w/ RISP since May 20, but the club is only 22-24. we all know cain is a solid guy, but a shit guy to bet on because of the ridiculous run support the giants give him, this year and his career. i mean, do the giants just not like this guy or what? he is 23-6 (.793) when he receives 3 runs of support or more so this is a capable guy if the offense can muster anything, the club is 25-19 in those games so the bullpen has blown it when he does get runs. SF has scored 1 run or less in 40% of his starts since the start of 2007. since his big league debut in 2005, he has the 4th best avg. against (.226) in majors, behind chris young, johan, zambrano. one thing that is obvious is cain's struggle during the day. he hasn't won a day start in his last 8 starts, he is 0-6 w/ a 6.53 ERA since that last day win. SF bullpen is pretty shitty in my opinion and have struggled vs. the cubbies this year and in the past. on to hitters, rich aurilia is a guy to look out for if your a cub, he is fairly hot and he is 6-17 w/ a homer against marquis. the other danger guy is randy winn, he is 7-16 w/ 2 hr's against marquis, but keep in mind he is 1 in his last 10 AB's. castillo and durham have both suddenly fallen cold and have been miserable against marquis. molina, one of the best hitters on the team is 2 for his last 30 AB's (and is killing my fantasy team btw) rowand is another good hitter on the team, but again he is suddenly cold and sucks against marquis. i have cain on fantasy as well and he struggled w/ walks earlier in the season, he has been better lately, but the cubs are very patient and they should have plenty of opportunities to score.
it is pretty much night/day for the cubs home/away. every stat in better for the cubs at home. i don't like betting marquis anymore than the next guy but he has pitched well against the giants and is worth a play here imo. he's a sinker ball pitcher which helps when the wind is out at wrigley. i'm going to give the under a look as well (depending on strength of wind/umpire) because this number is pretty crazy and if the public is on the over ill take the under w/ two decent pitchers and a few guys on the cubs are pretty cold which could kill any huge rallies. GL to everyone today. lets get this cash.

i watched the entire game when cain pitched those 8 shut out innings against the cubs earlier this year. i kept saying to myself, "god damn cain is sharp tonight." he had amazing movement and location on every one of his pitches. cubs have seen what he's got now and i highly doubt cain can repeat that performance.

Jimbo - Posted in the UMPS thread...

Yummy. I said yesterday that McClelland is basically an 'OVER' guy to me... (see post 2 UMP thread)...

Cubs RL with all the suckers for me.

And OVER 11 even money. This thing will certainly go up - I promise... Wind blowing out; Marquis a sinkerballer and the Cubbies should get to Cain, who is prone to give up flyballs...

w/ mclelland behind the plate that solidifies my cubs play and i guess i'll be on the over?? although i hate overs, especially ones that are in the double digits. you really need runs every opportunity or it becomes hopeless.

line opened at 11.5 and immediately went to 11 w/ under juice. you think it is going to go back up now CKR??
