the front office thought our big signings would turn this team around
but if you put lipstick on a pig guess what it’s still a pig and that’s the 2022 Texas Rangers
I doubt they thought it would make them instant contenders. If this was the extent of their vision for this team that wasn’t smart! Lol. I’m assuming they have a idea and last year was just a step. Ya gotta throw a little cash around and announce yourself to the world!!
They Got themselves a cornerstone franchise guy in Seager, he having a down season but I wouldn’t worry bout that, it took Goldsmidt a year to get acclimated to playing in Stl, little longer to be back playing at the level we expect, and now this season a MVP CALIBER player. Guys get that huge money in a new city and expectations go sky high, gotta deal with a move and everything being new, clubhouse, teammates, weather, coaches, etc etc, it a lot! I’d bet money he goes back to being a .900ish ops guy next year and prob even catches fire for a stretch one these last few months!
I think they got a great deal with Grey, he should be a great 3 man in rotation for life of contract, maybe even a solid 2 at times. Clearly they could use a legit ace and another guy around gray/Perez, ideally a ACE who slots in front of them!
Semien deal was as bad as Gray was good but teams like these guys can afford one of these and still be able to work around it. Cards were paying Matt Carpwnter way too much money his last several years when he was worthless (we had him and Dexter Fowler crazy bad contracts at same time!). it wouldn’t have been a huge deal except mike matheny continued to play him daily as he was so dumb he let value of contracts set the lineup, hopefully sometime way before Semien 35-36-37 they will just cut bait and pay him not to be there!! Lol.
I don’t know anything bout Ya’ll farm system? Surely you got sone young talent approaching big league ready? Ideally a pitcher or 3 be nice!! If not I guess maybe they have to open the checkbooks up again this offseason?? Lol
