2016 NBA Playoffs: First Round Discussion

No idea why anyone on the Spurs would run at the Grizz when they're taking a 3, they have zero outside shooters. Let 'em fire.
 
Well this is the shit that happens when 16 teams make the playoffs in a league that can be won by 3 teams at most

First round, one game at home and if you win, go through. If visiting team wins, it becomes best of 3 and can close out at home, but this is just so bad to watch unless you gamble.

NBA needs to figure out a way to do playoffs in a month or less like every other grown up sport, and hockey gets a pass because 8 seeds beat 1 seeds all the time. And the end of the game is actually exciting. But figure it out. Two months to do this fucking stupid.
 
There's a playoff format that involves 5 teams per conference making it, and the #1 seed sits out the 1st round as reward for topping their conference (2 plays 5, 3 plays 4 - then the #1 seed faces the lowest qualifying seed in the 2nd round). Be a much better fit for the NBA, but of course it will never happen due to $$$ considerations.
 
They could even keep what they have now, but make a rule that the 1st round series are a best-of-5 unless the lower seed manages to win 2 of the first 4 games. If the higher seed goes up 3-0 or 3-1, series is over (automatically turns into a best of 5 by dint of the higher seed winning 3 of the first 4 games). If the lower seed goes up 3-0 or 3-1, stays a best of 7.

to my point, why does it take 2 months to see GSW or Spurs against Cleveland/Miami? And even if those aren't the matchup, it'll be close

Every other sport figures it out, this is fucking awful to watch and unnecessary. Trash.
 
Like watching a 16 seed against a one in the dance, but they get 4 or 5 cracks at it. So bad.
 
If the 1st round was competitive, it would take a year to get to the Finals.

The fan in me cares but the gambler in me doesn't give two shits.

Again, given how top heavy the league is this season virtually guarantees a great 2nd round.
 
Because in every other major league the best team in the league doesn't win. NHL and MLB playoffs are a complete crapshoot. A goalie gets hot or a team just goes cold.

The NFL one game scenario means any team can have a bad day and get bounced.

In the NBA, for the most part... The better team wins.

The NBA is a completely different thing. Just appreciate what you have and stop comparing it to other sports.

It's how the sport is. How do you change that? College hoops is pretty much the same thing. It's just more exciting because the talent level isn't as good so you see more upsets and the likelihood of a good team fucking up is greater than in the pros.

Hockey is all about riding a hot goalie. Now that's boring.

The problem with the NBA is injuries and an some really bad teams in terms of leadership and coaching.
 
Should follow the soccer where the best team wins, no need for playoffs

I realise you're defending the sport you love, but the Miracle on ice wasn't boring, and it occurred because the US goalie got hot against the Russians at just the right time.

Mismatches in any sport are boring; the NBA specialises in them when it comes to an unnecessary 1st round.
 
I know lol. The hockey being boring comment was made in jest. Playoff hockey is intense and exciting. I'm fully taking part in watching

i just find it a bit ridiculous that every night it's the same thing.... Yes. The difference between the bottom playoff teams and the top is ginormous. There's nothing you can do about it.

No, the goal in hockey is just much more valuable than a bucket in the NBA, if you're bored, that's a you problem. Don't know anyone, even the casual fan, that is bored by the NHL playoffs. How can you be unless you hate sport? It's ideal....the 8 can and does beat the 1 seed frequently, and with a minute left in the game, it's likely the most compelling minute in all of sport.

I know KJ. I just don't see why the argument is being made for the NBA in particular because that's the nature of the sport. The only solution you guys want is to cut the playoff field to 4 teams in each side? You all know that is never happening.
 
I do miss the 5 game first round series. That I wish they never changed. I could see that returning. Was just talking about it with my dad today.

Hornets are my favorite play tonight

the players are saying they were embarrassed by their defensive performance in game 1 and it was unacceptable that they basically just gave up.... the hornets are a good basketball team...
 
With the Meat rolling, a Cavs cover gonna be a tall task.

Pistons shooting is gonna hit a wall eventually.
