2* Idaho State +24/Holy Cross +17

Idaho State hosts a D2 transfer school, North Dakota. Don't get me wrong, ND is a good FCS team, and was a great D2 team, but this is their first FCS road test of the year, after playing some D2 power puffs at home, and spanking a mid level D3 UW-LaCrosse (who plays in an all Wisconsin Branch league) team last week.

Idaho State returns home, after starting the season on the road against 2 FBS teams, in Boise State and Idaho. They play football in a dome, which certainly can increase the noise level, and gives a nice home field advantage. Too many points here in a Thursday night home opener.

Harvard hosts Holy Cross Friday night. It is the season opener for Ivy League teams this weekend, so this is Harvard's first game. Holy Cross hung very tight with a top 10 UMass team, losing 42-45 on a last second field goal.

Holy Cross features a very potent passing attack, and returns 4 OL.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bull on this one.

(I bumped this one up to a 2* play, but had to take Holy Cross at +16 in the second one.)

1* Central Connecticut State -6/ Villanova -1

N. Carolina Central is an Independent team, after making the transition form D2 to the FCS. They are only returning 2 defensive starters, and it shows. Morgan St racked up 247 on the ground last week, and JMU 276 the week before. Now they travel for their 3rd straight road game, to face the Nation's #3 ranked rushing O, from a season ago. Add in the fact that CConn St. runs a very sound option attack, I think that it will be too much for this inexperienced D to stop.

Nova travels across town to face Penn in their season opener. Nova won last season's match up 34-14, in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicates. Penn had an early TD drive from a Nova INT inside their own 35, and Penn also intercepted Nova 2 more times in the 4thQ, inside the Penn 10 yard line. With almost the same team back from Nova, and hardly the case for Penn, I don't see this season opener being favorable to the Quakers.
 
Have some extra time this week, enough to look at one fcs game for me ... gonna cap out the arkansas pine bluff at alcorn st game.... any thoughts on that one ?

ARPB has won the last 3 meetings, and do have a great D returning. However, last week was only their 2nd and 3rd TD's of the season. And that includes 2 games against D2 schools. So that's not so good.

On the other side, Troy racked up 700+ yards on Alcorn last week, and Alcorn didn't sniff any points in that game, or against Grambling the week before. The did manage to put up a few on SE LA, but shit...

Gun to my head, I'd take the points with the much better D and 4 returning O linemen, and just hope they can win the field possession battle.

I just did a teaser with all of them as a straight tell so I certainly hope you go 2-0 this week. Your reasoning sounds excellent

The #2 rusher was their QB, who was a 3 year starter. Very important in a 99% option offense, having that type of experience back there.

They will be good still in FCS match ups, especially against lower to mid level SoCon teams. But there's no way they take it to App State again.

I guess it all depends on Carolina in this one. If they want to blow them out, they will. I can see Wofford scoring 6, max. If not, then perhaps they stay within the number, just because of the 90 rushing attempts this game will see combined.

The D is also no where near where it was last season.

I'm staying away.
 
Wofford loses top 3 rushers , starting qb ( backup had snaps alst year though ) , 3 olinemen and 4 of their top 5 receivers from last year on offense.

They return just 4 players on defense but 4 of 5 of their top tacklers.
 
Ellis Johnson, the So Car DC has plenty of experience preparing for the triple option as well. Look for So Car to be ready this time around against Wo Co
 
Few thoughts for that Wofford game.

That option shit is hard to defend, they avg 400yds on the ground this yr

Ellis Johnson has made it a point to try and defend that type of offense, as Dwight says, he has seen it a lot and all it takes is sticking to your assignments but easier said than done.

If SC has the chance, I believe they will run the score up, BUT, they have to get the chance to do that first.

The morale of the team seems ok after the loss, if I was thinking of playing Wofford, it would likely be in the 1st half. I believe if they don't cover the 1st half line, they probably won't cover the game and this gives Wofford a chance to hang around early at probably +16 or +17.

I may take the 10 offered to HC. No way Harvard stays within 3 of UMass liike HC did. The only thing stopping me is that Holy Cross has an atrocious recent record at Harvard Stadium. This game is Friday Night , I do believe, for whatever that's worth.
In Penn's glory years which seem to have ended a few years back now, this was a pretty even game. That sticks in my mind and frightens me a bit from pulling the trigger. Big Philadelphia rivalry game. But Penn is not the old Penn, and I think Villanova is a better team this year than in years past. Love their coach, Andy Talley. You may find me laying the TD here.

Some pretty large line moves out there.

I have created a spread sheet, and I will track opening lines, compared to closing lines, and see if any trends appear throughout the season.

It will be interesting to see what rates middles hit with these 5,6,7 + moves that occur throughout the week.
 
I like the Wagner play after looking at it, Ducks. Marist squeaked by St Francis, thanks to 21 4th Q points. LOL. I think I'll refrain from wagering on a game featuring 2 bottom 10 teams though.

Never a bad idea to bet against Savannah State.

Interesting play on Norfolk St. Not sure they have enough firepower to come back, if/when they are down.

North Dakota hangs on for a 38-34 win over Idaho State. The Sioux jumped out to a 31-7 lead early in the 3rd, as Josh Murray had some big runs, and over 130 yards on 12 carries I believe. He still ended up with 204 on 23, but ISU used the home dome advantage, and got things rolling through the air.

Nice start to the weekend.

Spurrier rejected the suggestion of a caller that USC "keep pounding" it against Wofford if the Gamecocks get up by a huge margin. Spurrier said he didn't envision USC blowing Wofford out. He said USC is simply trying to play better than last week and win the game. "It's probably not going to be an easy task". .
 
I miss watching Spurrier's press conferences and Sunday morning show on the SC on Demand channel that Time Warner had....

I'm trying to get down some more action on Villanova, as I found something interesting on them, regarding the ratings used to create the lines.

I upgraded the teaser with CConn to a 2*, and I also paired it with Elon.

I'm looking for another viable candidate to pair it with, because Sagrin really fucked this line up, IMO. I'll create a little writeup about it in a minute.

Ok, my reasoning behind my love for Villanova this week.

5dimes creates their lines for these games just by taking Sagrin's ratings, and doing the math. Plain and simple. The Villanova game is set at -7, which is fine because Villanova is currently at 61.90 and Penn is at 52.42 Add the 3 points for HFA, and you get ~7.

But what I don't get, is how Penn has a starting # of 52.42 this season. They finished last season at 43.94. Nova actually regressed from a 63 to their current rating of 60, despite missing Young for the final 6 games of the season. I know the argument can be made that Penn lost Robert Irving their starting QB after only 2 games, however what about the fact that they graduated the entire rest of the team? 2 OL are taking their first collegiate snaps, and another made a few cameos last season. They're returning 4 total offensive starters, and that's including Irvin.

Their defensive line is completely gone, less 1. They do have a strong set of LBs and DBs, but with Nova returning all 5 across the OL(who average out at 302lbs), Young will be able to have his way with both his arm and legs.

The Conference strength is also an enormous factor that I don't think is being factored in. The CAA is heads and shoulders above the Ivy league, and Nova's schedule included 4 top 10 teams last season! Thats the kind of shit you only see in the SEC!

I just think that Nova is underrated at this point in the season, and Penn has been upgraded too much for what they have. This game should be closer to 13-14, so that's why I have tried to get down some money on Nova -1 in various ways.

I think thats safe. I have Baylor for the game so hopefully we both hit. According to these stats it looks like UCONN scores more in the 1st half and in the 2nd they just start grinding it out.I got this game 28-20 UConn so that makes since on that bet. You got me thinking now...lol

Hoops- I'm guessing you don't need those 6 points with Villanova.

I missed UConn at a reasonable number so I bet Harvard at the 6 1/2 number. Let's root for something between 7 and 16.

I don't think I need them, but I like investing them into the others, Auburn especially.

7 works just fine for me in tonight's game. No need to be greedy.

I like the numbers, but they're significantly skewed. The Mud Bowl in Temple, and the donk fest known as Wazzu throw a wrench into things.

I don't think Baylor will experience great running success, especially early on tonight. I look for UConn to benefit from a nice starting field position, and run the ball down their throats.

I agree Uconn wins but I think Baylor gets a backdoor cover in this one. We shall see.GL buddy.

I'll listen to some of that Harvard-HC game and see if I can figure out what happened.
