Transfer Portal Thread: Emphasis on QB's

Tate going to fight with lawyer for immediate eligibility and use coaching change at OSU as reason. Should be interesting.

Yeah, anything will go now. Earlier it was said he might graduate in May anyway. Kooky. Speaking of Tathan...

Jalen Hurts going to Oklahoma. Probably a good decision for him. Interested to see him in an offense that better suits his skill set. Will be pulling for him. Maybe he and Tua can both make it to NYC in December

Hurts to Oklahoma another example on my theory that they all know whats going down well before everyone, hence the OU QB who transferred.

Riley has now had Mayfield, Murray, and Hurts as his QBs in his career and Rattler is the #1 freshman QB. And Riley is just beginning his third year. If he ever goes to a casino I want to be there and make the same bets he does.

And he's coaching them up.also. not all luck

He put his name in the transfer portal yes because he was concerned about what the rumors were. They were all over the internet

OU trying to block the QB who left their program to play for West Vajeen this year lol

i agree with that because WVA is in the Big 12.

so the rule is, if you are Not a graduate player, you must sit out 2 years if you transfer within your own conference and 1 year if you transfer outside your conference.

Something along these lines should apply for a Grad transfer as well, should it not?

i feel bad for austin kendall that he keeps getting screwed but come on dude, WVA of all places? transfer outside the Big 12 and you can probably play right away.

how would you feel if a transfer from your favorite school was trying to stay within the conf and play right away? i bet you would not like it very much.

feels different when it's your own team, doesn't it?

It will be exciting to see Rattler hopefully play. It's been awhile since OU has developed their own QB instead of plucking one from somewhere else.

Ah that's the kid that played down the street, shoulda gone and watched him. Pretty sure he succeeded Luwerke at that school. Interesting to see how the pro style QB works out there

I don't think they should be allowed to transfer in conference as a NCAA rule. That said, he is allowed to so I think it's weak of OU to do this. But then again a good chance Hurts plays Bama in a playoff, where does it end? Welcome to free agency. This is only the beginning of what college football is about to turn into. But it's about the "student" athlete

Looks like OU got shamed into allowing it. Ah, the power of 2018..19 and Social Media. Kendall official to WVU.

The bottom line though for OU...

They have 'the stud' of 2019 class coming in and a proven 'team' player with lost of experience at the position.

Either way, they are in excellent shape. They did well here, no doubt.

Only one drawback to your theory BAR. No spring practice for Rattler since he's not arriving until summer.

Doesn't mean he can't do it, but it's a lot harder when the freshman doesn't come in for the spring semester.

I did take that into consideration.

And, it is a huge thing, no doubt.

Alabama has had players transfer to UGA and Tennessee in the last couple of years. We fought the Mo Smith one to UGA. Kirby threw an absolute fit, kid ended up getting to play. Ironically, he made a huge INT against AU in the SEC Champ game that helped UGA win, and allowed Alabama to sneak into the playoff. After that ordeal, SEC changed their rule so that grad transfers can transfer within conference with no penalty. To me, if they have graduated, they've fulfilled their obligation to the university and should be able to do as they please. Not sure I mind regular transfers within the conference either. If they are transferring, unlikely they are helping your team much anyway

Zero school loyalty. All me me me. Makes these kids so unlikable

There is a lot to not like about this generation, no doubt...

But, lets look at Bama...(not to pick on them).

2019 recruiting class has how many of their primary recruiters left?

I love the early signing period but we are seeing the direct effects of it already. Now, that stuff still happened before but not as much.

Like most things in life these days, nobody thinks about the unintended consequences of things when making new rules/laws, but they complain loudly after the fact, especially if it negatively impacts their team

I still think the early signing period is great. No clue how you make it better though wrt coaches leaving, as will happen once NFL regular season and the bowls conclude.

Either way, FA is basically here. CFB is gonna get wild in the next 5 years.

I agree on early signing period. And both the player and the school have legit gripes. I understand for the kid if the coach that's been recruiting you for 2 years leaves, but at the same time, the school could be left high and dry if we allow those that signed LOI to leave with coach departures

Without a doubt.

Commit to a school is the best thing to do. For so many, they don't understand it is a 30-40 year decision, not a 3-4 year decision.

Guys definitely get attached to their primary recruiters...

On OK and the WVU situation

LOL....no SHIT they let it fly!!!

How fuckin BAD would that've looked??!!

I like it. I think in the long run it's good for the athletes and good for the game. It makes a lot of schools and lot of players a lot more interesting next year.

There is no real logical reason why a kid who is not playing and stuck behind better players--or at least players the coach likes better--should not be able to transfer to a school where he has a chance,

For a long time I wanted to see a rule that allowed any player who had played for two years and never lettered to transfer and be eligible immediately. And any player who is not offered a scholarship until the last few days before signing and is only offered because the school lost someone else should be able to transfer the same way. Life's short and college life is even shorter. If a coach doesn't want to play a kid he should be able to find one who will.

The comical part to me is that many of these kids are too dumb to realize they may not be in any better shape if they move to a top program. If they asked me I would advise them to do what Jeff Driskel did--find a group of five program with a good staff where they can go in and be sure of starting and put up big numbers and produce wins.

Cam Rising to Utah. I think Utah came out ahead since it's basically a swap for Jack Tuttle who decided to transfer around mid season for some unknown reason.

Utah also has Andy Ludwig returning as OC, Rising will sit for Huntley's Sr year and then battle for the top spot, I think he's a good fit for Ludwig's offense.
