Think this could be a nice thread we get going here. The offseason of baseball is one of the most entertaining in all of sports. Ill start it off

Brewers have reportedly offered Sabathia 4 years 100 million. Quite the offer and I am praying he turns it down. Think this could cripple our franchise for years if he signs it. Just too much risk

I'm wondering what bargain basement has beens the Twins will sign to 1) Try to play 3B and 2) Try to rebuild the bullpen with.

Give you Bill Hall bjorks for Neshek. Good RH power bat for your Twins

The World Fucking Champions (henceforth to be referred to simply as "The WFC') have named Ruben Amaro Jr. GM much to the surprise of no one.

However, Gillick will stay on in an 'advisory' role

Brewers exercise option of Mike Cameron at 10 million per year. Also heard it was 5 years at 100 million, not 4 years for CC.

I was just reading the phillies would be interested in making an offer for jake peavy if peavy will lift his no trade clause to pitch in the city of brotherly love

I would love for the Cubs to get Lowe. Spend huge money on a 37 year old pitcher who is on the downside of his career no doubt

^
and trying to send fukudome back to japan for $1.

:36_11_6:

Peavy and harden (barring he stays healthy) would be a sick 1-2 punch attacking the strike zone. but Once you factor in Z i almost think you have too much of the same here with 3 strike out pitchers....

would like to see them get someone with a deceptive delivery/offspeed arsenal like dice-k or even maybe wandy rodriguez.

Add in dumpster for the ground-ball outs, and youve got a complete rotation.

maybe you all should bring back trachsel?

DANA POINT, Calif. -- The world champion Phillies (WFC) are one of the most aggressive pursuers of Rockies superstar outfielder Matt Holliday, sources tell SI.com.

The Rockies surely would be interested in Phillies centerfielder Shane Victorino, but it isn't known whether Philadelphia would consider moving him.

The Phillies have several other well-regarded young players, including catcher Lou Marson, shortstop Jason Donald and pitcher Carlos Carrasco. Sources indicate that the Phillies have enough good young players to be able to do a deal for Holliday if the sides can agree.

Baseball executives expect Holliday to be traded at some point this offseason, but nothing appears imminent.

Holliday batted .321 in 2008, his fourth straight .300 season, but he dipped to 25 home runs and 88 RBIs, the first time since 2005 that he failed to top 30 HRs and 100 RBIs. Holliday is on the trading block because he will be eligible for free agency after the 2009 season and the Rockies have concluded they have no hope to retain him.

SI.com reported Wednesday that Holliday turned down Colorado's offer of $68 million over four years plus an option that would bring it to $85 million.

Any teams interested in acquiring Holliday understand that they will be getting him for only one year. Several teams have shown interest, including the A's, Mets and Rays, but so far it appears the Phillies may have the best chance among those teams

Theres no way the WFC send either Victorino (as reported in this article) or Werth (as mentioned in another) to Colorado for one year of Holliday

Just not gonna happen

The WFC dont need one year of Holliday that bad

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and New York paper reports Brewers and Yankees have been talking a trade that would send Mike Cameron to the Yankees for Melky Cabrera and Wilson Betemit

Brewers hire Willie Randolph as bench coach. Putting together a hell of staff there

The WFC traded minor league outfielder Greg Golson to Texas for minor league outfielder John Mayberry

Anybody know anything about Mayberry?

A big, strong Stanford graduate, John Mayberry Jr is the son of ex-Royal/Blue Jay John Mayberry Sr. He came to the Phillies in Nov 2008 when they traded away former #1 prospect Greg Golson to the Rangers.

A mature prospect with near-MLB ready power, Mayberry split the 2008 season between AA Frisco and AAA Oklahoma with most of that service time coming at the higher level, where he slashed a line of .263/.316/.474. He hit 16 home runs in 437 ABs. He has plus-power potential, complete with the high strikeouts and inside-pitch vulnerability one might expect, and is best suited to a corner outfield position.

John Mayberry has been traded to the Phillies for former number one pick Greg Golson.

he's basically unranked...except by scoutingbook, who has him as the 175th best minor league prospect.

at best, he'll mature into the next pat burrell. more likely, he'll just have a cup of coffee one day in the majors. somewhat likely...we'll never hear the name again. ;)

um....

someone wanna step up to the plate and do something?

jeebus, i didn't know the dempster signing was gonna bring the fa mkt to a screeching halt.

With the Javier Vazquez trade on the verge of being completed, pending physicals, the Atlanta Braves are now focusing their efforts on signing free agent pitcher A.J. Burnett.
According to the New York Daily News, the Braves are preparing a five-year offer to sign the 31-year old Burnett.
Burnett had the best season of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2008, posting an 18-10 record with a 4.07 ERA. He also led the American League in strikeouts with 231.
When contacted by Sports Illustrated, Burnett's agent Darek Braunecker said that his client would have at least one five-year offer on the table, but he wouldn't disclose which team or teams would be involved.
The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles are among the teams believed to have interest in Burnett.
The Jays are reportedly ready to offer Burnett a four year deal worth $52 million, but the team is unlikely to add a fifth year. It is also uncertain what role the passing of owner Ted Rogers and the layoff of 24 front office staff will have on the teams' payroll.
The addition of Vazquez and the interest in Burnett likely spells the end of the Braves interest in San Diego Padres 2007 Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy.

Rumors of Dye and Jenks to those perennial choke artist losers aka the NY Mutts for Fernando Martinez and some other crap

Needless to say, the WFC are neither impressed nor concerned.

alright :tiphat:

things are beginning to heat up again. should really get going on monday.

as for what's happened the last couple of days...
- shrewd move by the bosux.
- braves gonna be way overpaying for AJ.
- are the cws brass on drugs?

Im skeptical about this news but apparently the WFC have made a formal offer to Derek Lowe

If this signing happens, you might as well just start calling them the RWFC to get used to it cuz no one else would have a chance

Best pitching staff in baseball history

:36_11_6:

win a series, and your brains fry. ;)

if the mutts sign k-rod, you won't even be winning your division in '09.

:36_11_6:

just trying to instigate things.

you philly fans should enjoy it as much as you can.

Have those Yankees you support ever won a World Series?

I only started following baseball around, jeez...i guess it was 2001 and cant remember them ever being a successful, winning, championship organization like the WFC Philadelphia Fightin Phils...

:tiphat:

Paul Hagen reporting from the winter meetings in Las Vegas:
Throwing out the ceremonial first rumor of the winter meetings ...

Phillies baseball personnel have been asking pointed questions about Twins outfielder Delmon Young, the former overall No. 1 draft choice of Tampa Bay, according to sources. Young is probably best known for a 2006 incident when he was suspended 50 games in the minor leagues for throwing his bat at an umpire.

He was traded to the Twins after the 2007 season. The Phils are believed to be looking for a replacement for Pat Burrell, who is not expected to re-sign.

Young has yet to show Burrell’s power. He’s hit just 26 home runs in 1,346 big-league at bats. Last season he batted .290 with 10 homers and 69 RBI for Minnesota. But he’s still just 23 years old.

The Twins have an excess in the outfield with Michael Cuddyer returning from an injury-plagued season, Carlos Gomez (who came from the Mets in the Johan Santana trade) and Denard Span, who has established himself as their leadoff hitter.

So they are apparently willing to listen to offers for Young. A potential snag from the Phillies perspective is that they almost certainly would ask for top prospect Jason Donald and are also seeking bullpen help.

Young has developed a reputation for being somewhat hardheaded and uncoachable, one of the reasons Tampa Bay was willing to trade him. At the same time, he’s still just 23 years old, clearly has talent and appears to fit a Phillies need.

Pirate looking to trade SS Jack Wilson to anyone that will take him ...Detroit no longer a partner so that leaves Dodgers and Twins ...Each has a young OF named Young that the pirates covet...

Pirates signed two dudes from India that won a punt-pass and kick contest ...:hang:

SI.com's Jon Heyman expects the Mets and Francisco Rodriguez to agree to a three-year deal worth about $37 million.

K-Rod certainly would have had more earnings potential if he had elected for a one-year deal with the chance to go back on the market next winter. However, the difference between $12 million per year and $15 million per year has a lot more to do with status than any real world consequences. At least this deal is still bigger than the three-year, $34 million contract he turned down from the Angels a year ago. Dec. 9 - 4:38 am et

Thats not bad at all considering thats what a guy like Jeff Suppan makes per year. Exactly what the Mets needed too.

KRods the most overrated closer in the history of baseball

I could have gotten 50 of those saves last year

Cant wait till the meltdown once he puts on those heartless choker's uniform

Needless to say, the WFC are not concerned...

You should be though. While they are getting K-Rod, the WFC are going after Delmon Young.. shaking. Moyer is old, Myers is a headcase. You guys had your one lucky year. No more RWFC talk now

Both the Cubs and World Series champion Phillies have entered the fray to land the Padres' ace.

The Phillies threw their name into the mix later Monday, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reported. The Padres like some of the Phillies' young minor-league pitchers, major-league sources told Rosenthal, but the talks are only in the preliminary stages.

Seriously, if that happens...its over....no need to even play the season, just have a weekly parade for the RWFC!!!

Myers would be the unquestioned ace of the Brewers staff

Yovani Gallardo would argue that statement. And most likely win. Myers is nothing better than a decent #3 pitcher on a good team. He gets rocked far too often to ever be considered the ace of anything
