Tennessee Recruiting, Now With Extra Sketch

This is the reason that skepticism is advised when evaluating the ginorbus SEC recruiting classes that have been all the rage recently:
Defensive lineman Rolando Melancon is the third member of Tennessee's 2007 signing class headed to junior college. ... Alcoa defensive end Rae Sykes is expected to enroll at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, while Chattanooga defensive end Cory Hall will attend Northwestern Mississippi Junior College.
Said classes are never all that they seem.

I say that Something Must Be Done. We must Think Of The Children. When the NCAA allowed oversigning they probably didn't have this sort of rampant phone-booth stuffing in mind. Tennessee's 2007 class was a whopping 32 kids. Now it's down to 29... er... somewhere between 26 and 28:
The Vols have just two scholarships remaining for three signees who have yet to enroll. Defensive back C.J. Fleming (Highland Springs, Va.), defensive end Rufus Williams (Mims, Fla.) and tailback Dennis Rogan (Fulton) are the three remaining signees.
Skettttttchy! If Tennessee pulls a Christmas miracle the other two guys qualify, some kid is getting the proverbial finger from UT. At the moment the Letter of Intent does nothing for the person who actual signs it except remove available options; it's time to make the LOI a two-way commitment.

For the record, the departed are the #6, #10, and #32 (you are loved!) recruits in Tennessee's class according to Rocky Top Talk.

The University of Oregon flag hanging from Jerry Wade's home in Northeast Portland will remain on display, even though his son, Myles Wade, won't be in Eugene as expected this fall.
Myles Wade, the top in-state football recruit from the class of 2007, is academically ineligible to play for the Ducks next season, Jerry Wade said Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound Wade instead will play at Arizona Western College in Yuma, with the hope of transferring to Oregon for the 2009 season.
Wade verbally committed to Oregon in June 2006, before his senior season at Portland's Central Catholic High School. The 17-year-old defensive lineman signed with Oregon in February, but his grade-point average will prevent him from donning a Ducks jersey this fall, Jerry Wade said.

AZTECS REPORT
Long confirms that Aztecs lose another offensive lineman

By Mick McGrane
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

July 10, 2007

San Diego State senior offensive lineman Peter Manuma, who transferred from Long Beach City College last year, is academically ineligible and has left school, Aztecs coach Chuck Long said yesterday. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Manuma, who emerged from spring drills as the projected starter at left guard, did not play last season. He entered spring drills as the backup at center to redshirt freshman Trask Iosefa, but had positioned himself to become the starter at left guard.
Junior Mike Schmidt, who started two games last season, will likely enter fall camp as the No. 1 candidate at the position.
Asked how much of an impact Manuma's departure might have on an offensive line that returns three starters, Long said:
“In all honesty, we really hadn't had the chance to get to know much about him. He had a decent spring, but he had never played. He was still going to be in a competitive battle (in the fall).”
Manuma is the second SDSU lineman to leave the program in the past month.
Whitley Fehoko, considered the nugget of Long's first recruiting class last year, left SDSU in mid-June. Fehoko, who according to Long also left school academically ineligible, started six games last year.
On a positive note, Long said, six of the team's seven incoming freshman offensive linemen are currently enrolled in summer school at SDSU.
The Aztecs open fall camp Aug. 9.

Blackmon gets his waiver, will go into practice as a starter

Posted by [URL="http://blog.al.com/trackingtigersabout.html"]Phillip Marshall, The Huntsville Times[/URL] July 11, 2007 8:56 PM

The path has been cleared for linebacker Tray Blackmon to resume his Auburn football career.
Blackmon, who will be a sophomore in the coming season, has been granted a waiver by the NCAA after not attending school in the spring semester. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said Wednesday that Blackmon will go into preseason practice as the starting middle linebacker.
Blackmon was suspended for the first six games of last season and for the Tigers' 17-14 victory over Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl. He dropped out of school for the spring semester to deal with personal issues and returned for summer school.
"He's good to go," Muschamp said. "He's had a really good summer."
Blackmon was one of the nation's top defensive prospects when he signed with Auburn out of LaGrange, Ga., in 2005. He sat out a redshirt year before missing the first half of last season. He returned in time to play a major role in Auburn's 27-17 victory over eventual national champion Florida.
In another football development ...
Defensive back Ryan Williams of B.C. Rain High School in Mobile has been cleared by the NCAA and needs only to be cleared by Auburn officials to join the team. It is expected that will happen within a matter of days.
Williams and lineman Nick Fairley of Williamson were at the center of a grade-changing controversy. Fairley will apparently not qualify and is expected to attend junior college.

Someone Get Quintin Richardson a Scrabble Board or Something

Spurrier would rather the only South Carolina headlines were about relieving himself at Augusta.

Gamecock recruits have had an eventful offseason. Program savior -- ha, he looks like Jesus!* -- Stephen Garcia's been busy turning wine into disorderly conduct citations. Three middling recruits got stiffarmed by the NCAA Clearinghouse. And offensive lineman Quintin Richardson managed to get himself stabbed. Garcia's promised to get right with the law, but Richardson's misfortunes continue:
Quintin Richardson, 18, an offensive lineman and former Spring Valley High star, is charged with simple possession of marijuana, Richland County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Chris Cowan said.
Pot's probably a slap on the wrist, though Richardson has been suspended "indefinitely" according to University policy. This is a little alarming, though:

Bullets also were found on the scene, but no one has been charged in connection with them, Cowan said.
No weapons were recovered, he said.
Yipes. Maybe Richardson should spend his nights with a hot mug of cocoa and some board games or something.

*(Not that there's anything wrong with that. Obviously.)

Bearcats' roster takes a hit
DE Anderson plans to leave; WR Stewart dismissed by UC
BY BILL KOCH | BKOCH@ENQUIRER.COM

<!--ARTICLE BODY TEXT-->Six and a half weeks before the University of Cincinnati football team will begin practice for its first season under coach Brian Kelly, the Bearcats are facing the loss of two of their most productive players.

Junior defensive end Trevor Anderson has informed Kelly that he wants to transfer to another school. He's awaiting a university appeals hearing Friday on Kelly's decision not to grant him a blanket release.

Junior wide receiver Derrick Stewart has been dismissed from the school for academic reasons.

According to Kelly, the 6-foot-2, 255-pound Anderson told him he wanted a release for personal reasons. Kelly said he agreed to release Anderson to three schools closer to his Detroit home, but Anderson wanted a release that would allow him to go wherever he wants.

Anderson did not return a phone call Tuesday seeking comment.

"We have given him a release to Michigan, to Eastern Michigan and to Wayne State," Kelly said, "because Trevor has indicated there are family reasons for his desire to transfer."

Anderson received the John Pease Award as UC's most outstanding defensive lineman last season after he led the team with six sacks and was second with 13 tackles for loss.

"Obviously we're very disappointed that Trevor has contacted us at a very late date after going through spring ball," Kelly said. "If we knew his intentions, we certainly would have changed the way we would have handled the position."

If Anderson intends to transfer to Michigan State, where former UC coach Mark Dantonio is now the head coach, he could still do it without a release, but he would have to pay his own way during the year he must sit out under NCAA rules.

Kelly also said Anderson must complete some academic work this summer to be eligible to play this year, regardless of where he ends up.

Asked how much of a setback the loss of Anderson would be, Kelly said, "I don't think you lose anything when you have somebody who doesn't want to be here. He doesn't want to play for me. He doesn't want to play with his teammates, and he doesn't want to be here.

"Any time you have that kind of situation, you're never going to feel like that's a void because my success has been in getting my players to play at the highest level. We would not have been able to get everything out of him if he didn't want to be here.

"To hit us with this at this point to me is disappointing," Kelly continued. "But having said that, if you don't want to be here at the University of Cincinnati, it's best that you find someplace else to go."

Stewart blossomed into UC's best deep receiving threat last season and appeared poised to have a big year under Kelly's wide-open passing scheme.

The 5-11, 170-pound Stewart, from Youngstown, Ohio, was named UC's most outstanding receiver in 2006. He led the Bearcats with 675 receiving yards and was second in receptions with 33, averaging 20.5 yards per catch. He caught five touchdown passes.

Stewart also averaged 9.2 yards on 25 punt returns.

"He was given every opportunity to succeed academically," Kelly said. "A lot of people went to bat for him. He just struggled to the point where he's going to have to find another place to go to school."

Woods' report encouraging

Multiple sources said it's too early to draw any conclusions, but Woods was moving his toes and flexed some muscles after undergoing surgery for 3 1/2 hours Friday at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
One source said Woods was out of bed and standing on Saturday, and doctors may have him attempt to walk today.
"I was told surgery went well,” offensive coordinator Larry Fedora said via cell phone, driving back from a vacation in Florida. "We're concerned about his health, but are encouraged that our medical staff and doctors are providing the best care possible.”
Sources said a disc was put back in place during surgery after Woods suffered a vertebrae injury from a "freak accident” during a step-up drill that is designed to build leg strength.
"I'm driving back from vacation, so I don't have any details,” wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer said in a brief cell phone conversation, "but when I talked to him on the phone at the hospital, he was in good spirits.”
The injury occurred Friday morning during a common drill for high school, college and pro athletes. In the drill, the athletes place between 75 and 100 pounds of weight behind their shoulders and step up and down off a box. The routine doesn't require a spotter.
According to sources, Woods twisted an ankle and suffered the injury after he lost his balance.
It's too early to speculate whether Woods will play football again. It could be several days, possibly weeks, before doctors can address Woods' long-term prognosis.
In a press release, OSU head athletic trainer Rob Hunt said Woods is expected to be moved out of intensive care this weekend and could be discharged from the hospital "in the next several days.”
Coach Mike Gundy and his staff have been on vacation the past week and are scheduled to meet on Monday to begin preparation for the upcoming season. Gundy was unavailable for comment but was expected to arrive in Oklahoma on Saturday.
Woods primarily played on special teams and had two receptions last year as a true freshman. After a strong spring performance, Woods was one of the leading candidates to start opposite all-Big 12 wide receiver Adarius Bowman.
Woods arguably was the offensive MVP in the spring game after hauling in four catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
"Artrell is one of our starters, a big part of what we do offensively,” Fedora said. "You hope for the best.”
The NFL's David Pollack, a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals, is rehabilitating a similar vertebrae injury. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis announced last week Pollack won't play this season.
A three-time All-American at Georgia, Pollack fractured his C-6 vertebra while making a tackle in a Sept. 17 game against the Cleveland Browns. Pollack was in a restrictive halo for three months and underwent surgery on Jan. 3.
Pollack suffered no paralysis and has resumed daily activities. His agent, R.J. Gosner, said Pollack's goal is to resume his NFL career, but Pollack said in a statement last week that the nature of the injury forces him to take it a step at a time.
"I'm grateful for my recovery to this point and I'm working out every day to get my full strength back,” Pollack said. "Any final decision on football is still down the road for me.” In OSU's statement, Woods' family conveyed their gratitude for the show of support they have received since the injury. His family also requested future inquiries regarding Woods' recovery be directed to OSU officials.

Dave Curtis' Swamp Things blog notes that Florida Gator coach Urban Meyer has flip-flopped and will allow dismissed LB Jon Demps to return to the team this fall.
Linebacker Jon Demps, who missed Florida's spring football practices with off-field issues, said Saturday he has worked out with the Gators for the last two weeks and plans to be part of the team when the season starts. ...
Demps played four games as a freshman in 2005 and none last season thanks to problems with his left anterior cruciate ligament. Coach Urban Meyer said in February that Demps was "no longer with the team." Demps missed the spring, and as of Saturday night, he was not listed on the 2007 roster at UF's sports Web site, www.gatorzone.com. Saturday, Demps did not elaborate on his absence.

Demps was kicked off the team a few weeks after the 2006 seasons for a marijuana-related incident.

This really couldn't come at a better time for the Gators, who were very lean at linebacker during spring practice and will be breaking in three new starting LBs this fall.
Of course, I'm sure that had nothing to do with Meyer changing his mind on Demps, right? Right.

Miami (FL) freshman quarterback Robert Marve survived an auto accident but sustained several injuries. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by teammates that "flipped over on Interstate 75".
Marve, who was in the back seat sleeping when the accident happened, sustained lacerations on both his left hand and wrist and disfigurement of his left ring finger, according to [Marve's high school coach Robert] Weiner, who was with Marve in the emergency room of Naples Community Hospital on Monday.

Weiner said Marve was set to have surgery on the hand later Monday afternoon but that doctors were uncertain if he had ligament or tendon damage. Marve suffered no injuries to his throwing hand or any other injuries, aside from stiffness in his body, the coach said.
Kid's lucky to be alive. The "disfigurement" sounds kind of gruesome though. He's expected to miss about a month of workouts before he can return to the team. Freshman receiver Jermaine McKenzie and sophomore linebacker Colin McCarthy were also in the vehicle and are reported safe.

The late night/early morning cause of the accident is unclear, with differing accounts between police documents and the players. No arrests were made, and there was no intimation of alcohol use or abuse.

Gosh, when things go bad, they go bad fast.
Brandon Fanney was arrested and is facing charges due to an altercation in front of a bar located just off campus early Saturday morning. He is a “Jack” Linebacker, which is a position where we’re VERY thin. Heaven help us if another players gets arrested.
One strange fact I’ve noticed is that all 3 arrests happened the same weekend that Nick Saban was out of town.

Oklahoma State wide receiver Artrell Woods will miss the 2007 season after undergoing back surgery following an accident in the weight room on Friday.
"Artie will not play in 2007 but he is recovering well and has started rehabilitation," [Oklahoma State head coach Mike] Gundy said. "Our focus continues to be on Artie and his recovery. He is a part of our team and we look forward to having him back in Stillwater on a daily basis."
Woods suffered a "fracture dislocation" of vertebrae and an incomplete spinal cord injury. He later had a spinal decompression and infusion done in a 3½-hour procedure. Woods was released from the intensive care on Sunday.

Anytime spinal injuries and back surgeries are mentioned we are dealing with scary, scary stuff. Woods now joins Nebraska running back Kenny Wilson - who suffered a broken femur while moving a TV – on the off-season heavy-lifting victims list.

ILLINOISE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR BAILS

Illinois defensive coordinator Vince Okruch has left the Illinois football program on “temporary leave of absence for personal reasons,” meaning [NAME REDACTED] has to promote Dan Disch and Curt Mallory to co-defensive coordinators for the Illini. “Personal reasons” is as specific as any comment or press release gets on the matter–it could be anything, really: alien possession, persistent case of scabies, Guillain-Barre syndrome, leaving to get that real estate license he always craved…unless you lock onto this key bit from Chicago Sports:
During the season there were rumors of friction between the head coach and defensive coordinator.

Hey! You excited and improving over there?
…fueling our hypothesis is that Okruch has a potential job waiting at Northwestern and and/or tired of [NAME REDACTED]’s endless pawing of his defenses. [NAME REDACTED]’s time at Florida was marked by a refusal to delegate to assistants, even in the most crucial of situations. Charlie Strong, a hyperaggressive DC, watched his defenses fall back into soft zones in the second half with doomed, eventually blown leads; Ed Zaunbrecher, offensive coordinator, watched as [NAME REDACTED] called for a double reverse pass to end Florida’s potential comeback in the 2003 Capital One bowl against Michigan, placing the ball in poor Vernell Brown’s hands to win it with Rex Grossman running a pass route downfield.

If we’re in on this hand of blogger’s bluff, we guess Okruch tired of the second-guessing micromanagement and took a hike to “explore other career options,” leaving Illinois with two co-dcs with exactly no experience as DCs at the college level. This means [NAME REDACTED] now will attempt to mold the defense into a facsimile of his masterfully forgiving 2001 Saints defense. This means putting drywall repairman on speed dial, Illinois fans. Dominic Jones charged; three other players still suspects in incident

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota cornerback Dominic Jones was charged Monday with third-degree criminal sexual conduct after investigators said they found cell phone video that showed him in a sex act with a woman who was physically helpless.

Three other Gophers remain suspects in the case, which began in April after an 18-year-old woman said she had been raped at an apartment complex near campus.

"The charges represent a significant next step in this case," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said. "The charge is a serious one."

Defensive end Alex Daniels, cornerback Keith Massey and running back E.J. Jones all were arrested and questioned in April. They have not been charged, but have been suspended ever since by coach Tim Brewster.

"No charges will be filed against those individuals today," Freeman said. "We're going to take this case one step at a time. Each of them remains suspects and we're going to continue to review each of the cases."

At a news conference, Freeman said the woman had come to the apartment complex with a friend and some Gopher players. He said she drank heavily with the players and had sex with E.J. Jones, Massey and Daniels before passing out.

Dominic Jones arrived later and had sex with the woman while Daniels recorded the video on his cell phone, Freeman said. The file had been deleted from the phone, but investigators recovered a part of it, he said.

"It's amazing what the forensics can do to reconstruct that," Freeman said. "That cell phone video, a picture is worth 1,000 words, and that video reflects what happened, at least at that point in time."

The woman's blood-alcohol level was estimated at least 0.30 percent by a doctor who reviewed police reports and witness statements, according to the criminal complaint. Stephen Smith, the doctor, based his estimate on her size and weight and descriptions of the amount of alcohol consumed.

That's a level, Freeman said, "in which motor function, including the ability to stand or walk, is lost." He said third-degree criminal sexual conduct occurs when a "victim is helpless. This is the textbook definition of helplessness when you're over .30."

Freeman said investigators also recovered DNA evidence connecting Dominic Jones to the woman.

Dominic Jones is one of the Gophers' best defensive players. He's started 20 straight games over the last two seasons and gained the reputation of a fiery competitor with a knack for making big hits despite being just 5 feet 8.

Last season Dominic Jones had two interceptions and 82 tackles, a high number for a cornerback. He also emerged as a standout kick returner, leading the Big Ten with a 23.0-yard average and returning one 99 yards for a touchdown against Cal.

He went to the same high school in Columbus, Ohio as Daniels and Massey, who is Dominic Jones' half-brother.

In a prepared statement, Brewster said Jones has been suspended. Athletic director Joel Maturi said the school is cooperating with the investigation.

"The conduct alleged in this case does not reflect the expectations and aspirations that the university has for its student-athletes or any of its students," Maturi said in the joint statement. "Accordingly, appropriate disciplinary action will be considered as we gain more information."

Dominic Jones' attorney, Earl Gray, declined comment.

Daniels' attorney, Mike Colich, declined to comment on the allegation that Daniels took the video, but said Daniels "absolutely" denies any wrongdoing. Colich also expressed frustration at the pace of the investigation.

"At this point I think I'm frustrated that the county attorney is indicating they haven't made a decision on whether they're going to charge him," Colich said. "[Daniels] is waiting to get his life back and get back to football. ... How many weeks and months has it been that they've had to investigate?"

E.J. Jones' attorney said Monday's news was more of a relief, despite Freeman's claims that his client is still a suspect.
"E.J. clearly went to bed early on in this situation so we're confident he's not going to get charged," attorney Jeff DeGree said. "We're confident he'll be back on the football field in the fall. ... [Freeman] has had three or four months to investigate this and we've always felt that E.J. wasn't going to get charged. That didn't happen today and I don't think it's going to happen in the future."

WFU's Berry to miss season
Junior linebacker will be sidelined by academic woes
By Dan Collins
JOURNAL REPORTER
Tuesday, July 17, 2007

The biggest reason that Wake Forest didn’t feel overly distraught about losing linebacker Jon Abbate to the NFL was Eric Berry.
Yesterday, Coach Jim Grobe said that Berry, a redshirt junior, will be academically ineligible for the 2007 season.
Berry, who spent last season as the backup to Abbate, will return to Wake Forest this fall in hopes of regaining his eligibility by 2008. Abbate, a first-team All-ACC linebacker who led the Deacons in tackles three straight seasons, signed with the Houston Texans after his junior season.
Berry played in all 14 games, but started only the game at Florida State while Abbate was injured. Berry made four tackles against the Seminoles, and finished the season with 26 tackles and three sacks.
Four of Berry’s tackles were for losses.
“I’ll be honest with you, losing Jon Abbate didn’t have me nearly as concerned as losing Eric Berry,” Grobe said. “Because from what Eric had done when he took Jon’s place at Florida State, I just felt like we had an experienced, talented linebacker. Now, with Eric out of the mix, my concerns become not so much the talent we will be able to put in our starting lineup, but the depth.”
Dominique Midgett, a 6-2, 242-pound redshirt sophomore from Greensboro, emerged from spring practice as second-string middle linebacker behind Berry. Midgett played on special teams last season, and made two of his four tackles in a 34-14 romp against Liberty.
When practices begin early next month, Midgett will be challenged by two freshmen who redshirted last season, Hunter Haynes and Matt Woodlief. Haynes was listed in March at 6-2, 224 pounds, but Grobe said he felt that Haynes is now probably closer to 230 pounds.
Woodlief, a standout at Bandys High School in Catawba, was listed at 5-11, 240 pounds, but according to Grobe is probably closer to 250 pounds.
“We’ve got some good players,” Grobe said.
“The thing we’re going to miss was the experience we had with both Jon Abbate and Eric Berry.
“It’s a shame because that linebacker group was going to be one of the best anywhere around. Now, I think we have a chance to be talented. We just won’t have near the depth we would have had.”
Size is especially important at inside linebacker, but Grobe said he won’t hesitate to move his linebackers from outside to inside. Grobe said that Stanley Arnoux, who started 13 games last season at outside linebacker, may be moved inside.
Arnoux, a redshirt junior, is 6-1, 245 pounds.
“More than (the positions), it’s a matter of finding your three best and then your next best,” Grobe said. “If we have to move them around we don’t really care about that.
“We’re just trying to find six good linebackers that we can play because you just can’t get through with three starters.”
Berry practiced in the spring, during which time his weight soared to 288 pounds - 28 pounds more than he carried last season. Grobe said he was impressed with Berry’s performance, but noted several times that Berry would need to lose weight to have enough stamina to play regularly this season.
Because he was redshirted as a freshman in 2004 and played in 2005 and 2007, Berry will have one year remaining under the NCAA regulation that allows four years of eligibility during a five-year period.

Gophers Dismiss Four Players

It's a clear and emphatic message that patience for off-field missteps will be quite low, if not completely non-existent.

New University of Minnesota football coach Tim Brewster today dismissed four players from the Gopher roster. The four were allegedly involved in a sexual assault back in April. Three of the players, Alex Daniels, Keith Massey, and E.J. Jones, were arrested in April but never charged and released a few days after their arrest. The fourth, starting cornerback Dominic Jones, was arrested over the weekend and charged Monday with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Investigators say they have cell phone video footage of Dominic Jones (half-brother of Keith Massey but no relation to E.J. Jones) in a sex act with a woman who was so drunk that investigators described her as "physically helpless".

While Jones has been charged, the other three players have yet to be charged. That didn't stop Brewster from taking swift action Wednesday, as he chose not to wait until the legal process played itself out, or whatever excuse we get for inaction in cases like this.
Brewster cited violations of team and university rules for the dismissals, and his words in a statement should make it abundantly clear that this will not become a rampant problem in his football program.
"It is an honor and a privilege to wear the uniform of the University of Minnesota and we have exceedingly high expectations for each of our student-athletes. We spend a considerable amount of time addressing our players regarding their personal conduct and we will not compromise our values. We are establishing a culture of integrity and we will demand that our players are held accountable for their actions."
If that's not enough, Brewster also has the support of athletic director Joel Maturi:
"I am in full support of the decision of coach Brewster and I appreciate how he has handled this very difficult situation. While this issue is deeply disappointing, the Athletics Department is sending a clear and unmistakable message that it will never compromise its code of conduct. We have a level of expectation that we communicate to our student- athletes regarding their conduct both on and off the field. In the end, individuals decide right and wrong for themselves and then live with the consequences. Unfortunately, these consequences also touch the lives of many other people."
Given the "high expectations" Brewster has for his players, it's not unreasonable to think that the players violated his code of conduct, even if no laws were actually broken in this case. It's a case that has brought the football program a good deal of negative publicity and outright embarrassment. Even if you think that officials should be cautious about stuff like this in light of the Duke lacrosse case, it's still hard to argue that these dismissals aren't justified.

As for the football impact, losing Jones is a huge shot to a defense that was already laced with question marks after their performance in the bowl loss to Texas Tech. He was a top tackler on last year's team despite his lack of size, and he also showed some explosiveness as a kick returner. Daniels and Massey were going to be key reserves on new coordinator Everett Withers' defense.

Loss of Dominic Jones is huge as he was leading KR, PR, and starting CB last year.

Also lose depth at RB, DE, and CB.

Marve is expected to redshirt

BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN
University of Miami incoming quarterback Robert Marve and fellow freshman Jermaine McKenzie have withdrawn from their UM summer-school classes to continue recuperating from a serious car accident, their fathers told The Miami Herald on Wednesday.
Both players are expected back for freshman orientation Aug. 2, when they will be assigned their dorm room -- they're roommates -- and will prepare for a full fall class schedule as originally planned, Eugene Marve and John McKenzie said.
But both likely will miss substantial practice time, and Marve is expected to redshirt. McKenzie, a highly touted wide receiver from Bradenton Academy, has hairline fractures of three bones in his neck, John McKenzie said, and could be sidelined for a few months.
''That's touch and go,'' said McKenzie, whose son is mobile but wearing a neck brace. ``The doctor at Naples [Community Hospital] said it could be up to three months -- or he could be better sooner. It depends on how he heals.''
Marve, a Parade All-American and Mr. Florida Football from Tampa Plant High, was released Tuesday and resting at his Tampa home Wednesday. He underwent surgery Monday to repair a broken left wrist, dislocated ring finger on his left (nonthrowing) hand and a severe, ''but straight, not jagged,'' cut that ran between his ring finger and pinkie and extended to his palm, his father said. ``The wrist was a fracture, not a clean break, and the cut didn't destroy anything. The specialist said the nerves went together very well.
MARVE DISAPPOINTED
''Robert will most likely redshirt, but that's the way it is,'' said Eugene Marve, a former NFL linebacker. ``We had a little setback in our program, but he will recover. Even before the accident I went back and forth in my mind whether I wanted him to play or not this season -- whether he could beat out Kyle [Wright] or Kirby [Freeman]. All those questions go through your mind. Unfortunately, he was in the best shape of his life and he's really disappointed all that training has gone down the drain. He's the biggest and strongest and fastest he's ever been -- up to 200 pounds.''
Eugene Marve said Robert, more than anything, was hurting emotionally. ``Mentally he's very disappointed. He's very hard on himself about what happened. You go through the could've, would've, should've. Maybe it's like a game you didn't win; you criticize yourself, you analyze, you go through the things you could have done better.''
McKenzie left the hospital about 9 a.m. Monday, nearly nine hours after the one-car accident on Interstate 75, where Marve, McKenzie and UM sophomore linebacker Colin McCarthy were driving back to UM from a weekend with their families in Central Florida. McKenzie fell asleep at the wheel of Marve's 2007 Dodge Charger and the car hit a guardrail and flipped several times.
McKenzie was charged with careless driving. The police report said alcohol was not involved and that McKenzie and McCarthy were wearing seatbelts.
McCarthy, who sustained cuts and bruises and raspberry-type abrasions, especially on one of his knees, was otherwise healthy and returned to Miami, the fathers said.
While still in the hospital, Robert Marve told The Tampa Tribune on Tuesday, ``I don't care [about not playing football this season]. All I want to do is heal and be functional on my own again.''
`WAY SCARY'
Of the accident, Marve, who was initially sleeping in the back seat, told The Tribune: ``We headed out of control. Then everything just seemed to go black. I could feel that I was in the car, but I kept getting thrown around for a while. Then everything just stopped. I remember seeing my arm was bloodied. They told me I got out through the back window, but I don't remember getting out. I don't really remember much else.''
Both fathers visited the tow yard where the totaled car now sits.
''Scary,'' Eugene Marve said. ``Way scary.''
Said John McKenzie: ``For those three gentlemen who made it through that accident, there's no doubt God has a plan for them. You just don't walk out of an accident like that with a minimal amount of injuries.''
Jermaine McKenzie was walking around his house Wednesday, his dad said. When he returns to Miami, he will have DVDs of the MRI and CT scan to give to UM doctor John Uribe, who McKenzie said will be back in town next week. ''I talked to [offensive coordinator] Coach [Patrick] Nix and spent a lot of time with him,'' John McKenzie said. 'He told Jermaine, `Go home and rest up. Don't put any pressure on yourself. Don't even think about football. Come back on Aug. 2. Just get well, that's the main thing.' ''

Air Force football loses offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach

BY JAKE SCHALLER, THE GAZETTE
July 19, 2007 - 12:20AM
An offseason marked by change continues for Air Force’s football program — just two weeks before the start of fall practice.

Tim Horton, who was hired by new coach Troy Calhoun to be Air Force’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, resigned late Tuesday and accepted an offer to coach running backs at Arkansas, his alma mater.

Horton will replace Danny Nutt, who stepped down Tuesday afternoon. Nutt is battling “a serious condition that includes bleeding from his brain stem,” according to a University of Arkansas statement.

Calhoun, who is on vacation and was traveling Wednesday, released a short statement that said, in part: “Air Force football would like to wish Tim and (his wife) Lauren Horton, along with their kids, the very best as they return home to Arkansas.”

Calhoun will fill Horton’s roles by shifting responsibilities among assistants on staff. Offensive line coach Clay Hendrix and quarterbacks coach Blane Morgan also will be co-offensive coordinators. Running backs coach Jemal Singleton also will have the title of running game coordinator.

Those assistants will help with game plans, while Calhoun will call plays during games. Calhoun had planned to handle most of the play-calling responsibilities even if Horton had stayed, said Air Force sports information director Troy Garnhart.

Calhoun is unsure who will fill Horton’s role as wide receivers coach. He will not hire from outside the academy before the season.

Horton was just more than six months into his second stint at Air Force. He coached wide receivers at the academy from 1999 to 2004 and running backs in 2005. He spent the 2006 season at Kansas State before he was lured back by Calhoun and the chance to be a coordinator.

But that was not enough to keep him from returning home. Horton grew up in Arkansas and was a four-year letter-winner and three-year starter at split end for the Razorbacks in the late 1980s. His father, Harold, also played and coached for Arkansas and is the vice president of the Razorback Foundation, which raises money for the Arkansas athletic department.

“I have a lot of respect for that program (Air Force),” said Horton, who played on Southwest Conference championship teams in 1988 and 1989 at Arkansas. “When you leave a position of leadership and to come this late in the game, it was very, very difficult. Troy Calhoun, the head football coach there, was great to me. To be honest, I am here because of family. My mom and dad live here. My sister lives here. My wife, Lauren, is from Conway. I am back because it was time to for me to get back close to family. Leaving at this time is very, very difficult.”

At Arkansas, Horton will coach one of the nation’s top backfields. Standout running back Darren McFadden rushed for 1,647 yards and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting last season as a sophomore. Classmate Felix Jones rushed for 1,168 yards last year.

Horton is the second assistant Calhoun has hired who left the academy before coaching a game. Calhoun hired Brian Schneider as special teams coordinator in early January. In mid-February, Schneider accepted a similar job with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders. Calhoun decided not to bring on a new special teams coordinator but to have all his assistants help with special teams.

Badgers Suspend Backup RB Smith

One has to assume that P.J. Hill hopes this isn't any kind of long-term issue.

If it is, he's not going to have much help in the Wisconsin offensive backfield.

The university announced today that backup running back Lance Smith has been suspended. His status was in doubt ever since Saturday, when he was arrested after a dispute with his girlfriend.

Since it already appears that stud freshman John Clay won't be eligible, that leaves Wisconsin with just one good option behind Hill on the depth chart, assuming Smith is out for any length of time (Zach Brown would be the only other scholarship back).

Smith was picked up after he fought with his girlfriend over - wait for it - cab fare. He's tentatively facing charges of robbery, false imprisonment, and battery. It is worth noting, however, that no charges have been filed as of yet.

Not Surprised: Purify Reinstated at Nebraska
By Paragon SC Section: Football

</I>

Maurice Purify has been reinstated to the Nebraska football program and will only miss one game, the season opener. There was no way that he was NOT going to be available for Nebraska's game against SC on September 20th. Callahan's not that stupid.
From our frinds at SBN's Nebraska Blog Corn Nation via Husker Extra:
Nebraska standout wide receiver Maurice Purify will be suspended for the Sept. 1 season opener against Nevada, Husker coach Bill Callahan announced Friday.
The coach and player met Friday afternoon, two days after Purify was sentenced to one year of probation and fined $1,250 as a result of two recent arrests. A 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior, Purify has been reinstated to the team and will participate in the final week of informal summer workouts beginning Monday, and will report to fall camp Aug. 5 as part of the Huskers' official 105-man roster.
"I believe that (Purify) has made a sincere effort to redeem himself and move forward in a positive direction," Callahan said in a prepared statement. "During his suspension from our program these past six weeks he has complied with all of the requirements imposed upon him by the legal system, the general expectations of a student-athlete in our program, and the specific additional conditions demanded of him as a result of his actions.
"Our primary concern for Maurice continues to be his personal well-being and we will continue to be pro-active in that regard."
Reached on his cell phone Friday night, Purify declined comment. In addition to the one-game suspension, Callahan said, "Purify will face continued additional discipline within our football program, including extensive community service starting immediately and continuing throughout the entire season."

Fine, the internal workings of the Nebraska football program are not my concern. However they choose to handle it is fine by me just so long as he is in the game because I don't want to hear about coulda, woulda, shoulda when we go in there and beat them. I want them at full strength. This will be a great game in Lincoln no doubt.

Broussard to Leave Football Team

(07/24/2007) BY www.LSUsports.net BATON ROUGE -- LSU running back Alley Broussard has decided to leave the Tiger football team, he announced on Tuesday.
Broussard, a senior from Lafayette, said he will remain in school at LSU, where he is scheduled to graduate in December.
“My heart was no longer in it,” Broussard said. “I’m scheduled to graduate in December so I want to use the fall semester to dedicate my time towards getting my degree.
“I enjoyed my four years as part of the LSU football team and I wish my teammates success in 2007.”
LSU coach Les Miles thanked Broussard for his service to the Tiger football team.
“We understand Alley’s decision and we’ll support him as he continues to pursue his college degree. We wish him success in his future endeavors and thank him for the time that he spent with our program.”
In four years with the Tigers, Broussard played in 35 games, starting eight times. He finished his career with 1,537 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Broussard, who missed all of the 2005 season with a knee injury, returned to action last year, rushing for 281 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries.

Anthony Hill out for the Season

State’s hope for a big surprise in 2007 just took a big hit.
It was announced today that All-ACC and NFL-caliber tight end, Anthony Hill will miss the 2007 football season with a knee injury
We talked about this on Monday when rumors started surfacing on the topic but “the administration” wasn’t allowing Pack Pride and The Wolfpacker weren’t allowed to talk about the topic.
(How does that make all of you ‘premium’ subscribers who are spending $99 a year feel about your purchase? Similarly ‘interesting is the sudden deletion of topics and comments from moderators and posters on Monday proclaiming that Hill was fine).
So, where will the Wolfpack turn for help at tight end? The N&O proposes the following:
Without Hill, a 6-6 senior who has 61 career receptions, State might have to start former quarterback Marcus Stone at tight end.

Stone started the final six games of the 2005 season and first three games of N.C. State’s 3-9 season in 2006 at quarterback. He switched to tight end, under former coach Chuck Amato, after Daniel Evans succeeded him at quarterback. Stone caught four passes for 68 yards in 2006.

Sophomore Matt Kushner (6-4, 256 pounds), who is listed third on the preseason depth chart, played in all 12 games in 2006. Kushner started, with Hill, against Akron and Clemson, but did not have a catch.
I don’t have problem with Kushner not catching the ball a lot as long as he can block. I am confident that the Matt Jones-like Marcus Stone has the potential to provide the Wolfpack with a serviceable pass-catching option. But, can Stone take up enough space and block adequately to support what is expected to be a ground-based offensive plan?
Other names that may surface in competition for playing time at tight end could include: (R-Fr) Rashad Phillips, (R-Jr) Frank Fields and incoming freshman George Bryan.
Of course, it would be nice to be able to redshirt the talented Bryan. Perhaps if Hill comes back for the 2008 season, then Bryan could actually take a redshirt in his second year to provide us more depth and scholarship spacing at the position.

UCLA coach arrested, booked on suspicion of burglary

Associated Press

<!-- end story header --><!-- begin left column --><!-- begin page tools -->Updated: July 25, 2007, 4:32 PM ET

<!-- end page tools --><!-- begin story body --><!-- template inline -->NORWALK, Calif. -- UCLA assistant football coach Eric Scott and two other men were out on bail Wednesday after being arrested on suspicion of residential burglary.
The 32-year-old coach, along with Jesus DeAlba and Timothy Williams, both 23, were booked on suspicion of residential burglary Tuesday and released after posting $50,000 bail each, said Sgt. Tera White of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Norwalk station.
Scott was hired as receivers' coach in March after working as an intern in the school's football office last year. He was an assistant coach at Crenshaw High in Los Angeles the previous seven years. Scott played at UCLA from 1995-97.
"The athletic department is currently gathering information on the situation, and until we have all the facts, it is premature for us to comment," said Marc Dellins, UCLA sports information director.
Deputies were called to the 11600 block of Pioneer Boulevard on a report that a burglary was in progress. They detained the three men and arrested them, White said.

Thanks for all the updates RJ. A quick way to get caught up on what's happening over the summer in college football.

Cal WR Nyan Boateng Arrested, Suspended

California transfer Nyan Boateng hadn't even left Gainesville for Berkeley before he found trouble, as the future Golden Bear wide receiver was arrested last week and "charged with burglary residence, battery and criminal mischief," according to the Contra Costa Times.

The former Florida Gator--and the only one in the Cal program who can claim a National Championship--allegedly attempted to enter a former girlfriend's residence last Thursday, was refused entry then kicked the door in.

Cal Head Coach Jeff Tedford is "aware of the situation" and has suspended Boateng from all team activities while he "gathers more information." Even if he had stayed on the good side of the law, the transfer would have had to sit out the 2007 season, so the news has little impact on the program other than the schadenfreude felt by Stanford alumni.

Pitt Safety Suspended for ... Something

What it is, no body is actually saying. There's speculation, rumination and rumors -- lots of rumors. Pitt and Coach Dave Wannstedt, however, are filing it under "violation of team policy." Yeah, that will quell the questions and rumors. A season long suspension for violating team policy. Nothing to take notice of here. Fields, of course, has been unavailable for comment.

Elijah Fields was expected to be in the mix for the starting strong safety position. Fields, a sophomore, has been suspended numerous times by the team already. He was suspended for several practices in the spring for skipping several conditioning workouts and classes. Despite the missed practices, he still starred in the spring game.

At this time, Fields is still enrolled at Pitt and there has been no word that he is leaving the program. Everything about the kid on the field says he has great potential all the way to the NFL. His inability to deal with off-the-field matters could keep him from being anything but a minor "what if." At least Pacman Jones made it to the NFL before he started letting his off-the-field issues take him from the game.

Michael Ricks Ineligible, Prothro On Medical Scholarship

Curses:
Saban said that two players from the signing class did not report. Kerry Murphy will attend a prep school, and Michael Ricks did not achieve his necessary grades.

Double Curses:
Alabama wide receiver Tyrone Prothro has been placed on medical scholarship, almost certainly ending his college career nearly two years after breaking his leg, coach Nick Saban said Thursday.

"We do have a plan to try to continue further his rehabilitation and are hopeful he can come back and play football someday," Saban said. "The medical staff is 99.9 percent sure that this is a long-term issue we're dealing with and that it would be unusual for a guy to ever come back."

Perrilloux reinstated, to report today at LSU

Transgressions in May led to suspension
Friday, August 03, 2007 By Jim Kleinpeter

BATON ROUGE -- The LSU Tigers report to football camp today with expectations surging over the upcoming season, but with a shaky situation at quarterback.

Some of that uncertainty lifted Thursday when the high school coach of sophomore quarterback Ryan Perrilloux said the prized recruit will be reinstated and report with the team, which begins practice Saturday.

Coach Les Miles declined to comment pending a press conference scheduled for this afternoon. Athletic department officials, however, confirmed Perrilloux has completed the requirements for his reinstatement after he was suspended in May after his arrest for allegedly using his brother's ID to gain entrance to a riverboat casino.

ND's Hand faces prostitution charge

Arrest was reason for Friday suspension

<!--END Headline--><!--Extra Eyebrow Field--><!--ArticleByline-->

<!--Extra Break if needed--><!---->Derrell Hand, 20, a University of Notre Dame defensive end/nose tackle, was arrested and jailed Thursday afternoon for allegedly propositioning a prostitute.

Hand, who was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday, was released from the St. Joseph County Jail on $250 bond Thursday.

A junior from Philadelphia, Hand was expected to compete for a starting spot or to be a key reserve at defensive end, even though he had not seen action during his first two seasons at ND.

The Irish begin fall practice Monday and open the season Sept. 1 against Georgia Tech in Notre Dame Stadium.

Lt. Scott Ruszkowski, commander of the South Bend Police Department’s Neighborhood Enforcement Service Team, said the punishment if convicted depends on someone’s prior record.

“They’re Class A misdemeanors, as it stands right now, unless they have previous convictions, which we don’t know of now,” Ruszkowski said.

The men were arrested after contacting female police officers posing as prostitutes.

Whether those arrested in prostitution rings are high-profile or athletes doesn’t matter, said Ruszkowski, who added that he didn’t know Hand was a football player.

“It’s not relevant to us,” he said. “Everybody that was arrested, they were all adults.”

Per Mack Brown during today's press conference:

Texas LB Sergio Kindle and Texas DE/RB Henry Melton suspended for first three games (Ark St, TCU, and UCF), although both are practicing with the team and undergoing a bunch of other community service and alcohol awareness classes. Coach Rucker has prostate cancer. Freshman DT Dre Jones is suspended indefinitely (meaning kicked off the team unless shit really clears up).

Theme this year will be to allow those who have "earned the right" to play as a Texas Longhorn to play.

The seriousness of the injury wasn’t clear. Brown said Shipley would practice, but he may be limited.

Also on the injury front, Brown said that offensive lineman Cedric Dockery, who missed the last half of the 2006 season with a knee injury, had been cleared to participate in fall drills.

Rucker to undergo surgery for prostate cancer

Longhorn running backs coach Ken Rucker has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery Aug. 27, coach Mack Brown said Sunday.

Rucker said his doctors are confident that he will recover fully and will be able to return to his coaching duties.

“No doubt about it — 100 percent,” the upbeat Rucker said.

Rucker said the cancer was found during a routine exam. He said he would work to serve as an example to other men regarding prostate cancer screening.

He will continue to coach during fall drills, up until the surgery. Other coaches will fill in for his duties as needed, Brown said.

In honor of his friend, Brown said he has begun wearing a yellow LiveStrong bracelet.

The Gamecocks' "head ball coach," Steve Spurrier, has threatened to vacate his position due to South Carolina's admissions process.

From ajc.com:
Spurrier was angered that receiver Michael Bowman of Wadesboro, N.C., and Arkee Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., were cleared by the NCAA to enroll, yet were turned down by the university. The rest of the Gamecocks football team officially reported Friday for preseason camp.

"Hopefully, I truly believe this is the last year this is going to happen, because I can't operate like that," Spurrier said. "I can't operate misleading young men."

Spurrier signed a contract extension, which included a raise of nearly a half-million dollars, that ties him to South Carolina through 2012. However, he said if things didn't change on admissions "then I have to go somewhere else, because I can't tell the young man that he's coming to school here," then not have him admitted.
Gamecock fans believe that Spurrier is targeting his displeasure at the university's president, Dr. Sorenson. This is the second instance in Spurrier's tenure at USCe in which the university administration and the football program have clashed over admissions.

No one presently knows where Spurrier might end up if he carries through with his threat, but fans of other SEC schools are no doubt hoping it would be in a different conference. For now, Spurrier remains a Gamecock, as the university has pledged to improve and refine its processes such that this won't happen again.

(Psst, Steve: how would you feel about going back to Duke? The Roof is on fire in Durham... )

Duke suspends football player

Middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili is arrested on several charges Saturday including DWI, assault

DURHAM - Duke University junior middle linebacker Michael Tauiliili was arrested Saturday on a litany of charges, including driving while impaired, failing to stop after an accident, assault by pointing a gun, carrying a concealed weapon and simple assault.

He was indefinitely suspended from the Duke football team Sunday.

Tauiliili was arrested by a Durham police officer on Hillsborough Road in Durham around 4 a.m. He is listed on the arrest warrant by the name on his Texas driver's license, Michael Shawn Brown. Tauiliili changed his name prior to the 2006 football season to honor his Samoan heritage.

Citations say he failed to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in property damage to a vehicle owned by Jesus Alejo of Creedmoor. Tauiliili, 20, of Houston, had a .12 blood alcohol level. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08. The legal age to consume alcohol is 21.

Alejo is listed as the complainant on the simple assault charge, which alleges Tauiliili hit him in the face, resulting in an injury requiring stitches. The concealed weapon Tauiliili is accused of carrying is a knife, and the gun he is accused of pointing at Alejo is an air pistol.

Tauiliili was no longer in custody at the Durham County jail on Sunday night, jail officials said, but the amount of his bond was unclear.

The Blue Devils are scheduled to open practice today at 6:30 a.m. They open the season against Connecticut on Sept. 1.

Reached by phone Sunday evening, Duke football coach Ted Roof said he would not comment on Tauiliili's situation until all the facts have been revealed.

"It concerns me and is disappointing when one of our players puts himself in a difficult circumstance off the football field," Roof said in a statement released by the school. "I will investigate and deal with this situation with the seriousness it deserves."

The Blue Devils would lose their emotional leader on defense in Tauiliili, who led them in tackles in his first two seasons. As a sophomore in 2006, Tauiliili ranked eighth in the ACC with 7.8 tackles per game.
Tauiliili, reached by phone Sunday night, said he couldn't comment on what happened Saturday.

Wisconsin Re-Instates Lance Smith

You may remember the tale of Wisconsin running back Lance Smith. In it we heard of Smith's frugal outlook towards dating, and of his penchant for women's shoes. Particularly the part where he hits his girlfriend, takes some money from her, and then for good measure takes her shoes. And they say romance is dead. Not in Madison, Wisconsin it isn't.

Smith was suspended indefinitely by the team, and this morning before their first practice, Smith was re-instated by Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez.
Sophomore Lance Smith released a statement through the university apologizing for his actions during a July 14 dispute in which he allegedly pushed his girlfriend.

"I first want to apologize to my girlfriend, my coaches, my teammates, our fans and the university community," Smith said. "My actions did not measure up to the standards we have here at Wisconsin."

Smith then thanked God that he's still in college, and not in the NFL, where Roger Goodell would have had him shot by now.

Though just because Smith is back on the field, it doesn't mean he's free of other consequences. He's still got to deal with that whole battery, theft, and false imprisonment deal. If Smith is found guilty on all charges he will face up to a total of a year in prison, and $11,000 in fines.

That's a whole lot of shoes.

nevada center out

for two weeks..... the backup will go against Ndamukong Suh, one dominant DT and a heck of a player!!!
This position (Center) is one of the most underrated to cap a game, and I think it is a very important fact (fumbles, chemistry with qb, etc.)
Looking good for Nebraska to cover..:prayer

forgot to

Nevada loses Green for two games

Starting center to miss seven weeks with broken foot

Posted: Monday August 6, 2007 7:40PM; Updated: Monday August 6, 2007 7:40PM

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Nevada center Dominic Green is expected to miss seven weeks with a broken foot.

Wolf Pack coach Chris Ault said Monday that Green, a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference pick at tackle last year, was injured two weeks ago.

The coach said Green would definitely miss Nevada's first two games, at Nebraska on Sept. 1 and at Northwestern on Sept. 8.

"We'll play that as we go. That was our starting center and our most experienced lineman," Ault said.

The 295-pound Green has played all three positions on the line, starting all 25 games of his career. The two players most likely to replace him are Kyle Robertson, who has played both center and guard, and junior Josh Catapano.

Preseason practice opened Monday for the Wolf Pack, who went 8-5 last season, including a 21-20 loss to Miami in the MPC Computers Bowl. They finished tied for third in the WAC last season and are picked to finish third again this year.

Not sure if we had this yet or not but even if we did, probably going to "sticky" this thread and let people make all the additions from spring.

This will especially serve useful to me as I finish up my Steele. Now we can all have a resource thread - anytime a player is injured, suspended, etc., we can all check this thread, and make proper notes - especially if you guys use your Steele as a season-long reference point when keeping up with power ratings.

To keep the thread fairly manageable, just the notes with who the player is, why he is out, and perhaps one or two links to the story where we can read about it would be perfect.

This thread is applicable for every I-A team. Fire away fellas; I'm about a week away from coming out with my Top 25 team units at each particular position, and knowing all the injury info is pertinent for that.
