Great work on Saturday by Cubsker ....

Nice to see Cleveland set a record in New Yankee Stadium, that may stand for decades. The Tribe also set the all time MLB record for most runs ever in the 2nd inning.

Nationals are in free fall mode, case in point Alex Citron is being called up tomorrow and will play.

Marlins are beast right now and have totally demoralized DC. Volstad isn't going to give them a chance.

volquez might be worth a look
runline in florida maybe? cabrera on the hill he's a complete gascan, team total on the fish and over in that game, nats generating some runs, and fish as well..they've met before nd fish hammered cabrera and finally dodgers/rox over 8.5

And I was glad to see it as I had Carmona ml first half. Think tomorrow will be amusing too as I will be playing Yankees minus 2.5. Pavano is also a spectacular pitcher 7 innings pitched 13 runs given up. I am sure the Cleveland team appreciates his efforts and will fight tooth and nail to protect him.

hard to pitch worse than this...

I waited to see if carmona's day splits were as dominating as last year, and after the first one, it seems like it

Over in Mil/NYM - SP, bullpens and umps all say so

Under in Tor - expect a 3-2 game here

Will probably play both Bos and NYY -1.5 - both teams have solid pitchers going, worst day of the week for Balt and Pavano is as bad as it gets

Well after today there is no doubt that the ball carries at the new Yankee Stadium. They have only played day games so far and the weather has been good for this time of the year but there are no jet streams knocking the ball down at all . Very opposite of the old stadium. It does seem like every flyball has a chance to leave the park but did notice in the last few innings that a couple balls did die abit . Possibly because the weather was changing and night time was coming. Something that I am watching certainly .

On paper Pavano is in trouble because he allows alot of flyballs and probably the reason why he pitched better at KC besides obvious lineup differences was how the parks play. Ball jumps out in Texas and does not in KC....

Burnett pitched well @ CLE last year but has has loads of issues with Tribe dropping 4 of 5 career starts usually at the Jake...

Yanks are 28-12 L40 Sundays and CLE trend UNDER strong on Sundays . Tribe 0-4 last 4 game 4s while NYY is 4-0 in there last 4...

after this beatdown hard to look at anything buy NYY-1.5 or CLE ML ...

Up @ Toronto we have 2 solid LH's and we saw how that worked out today plus Fletcher behind the dish. Problem is pens probably thin after today...interested in Jays and 1st 5 under .....

Brewers ML just as a fade Figuerora ...

Lester has owned Balt and well Orioles struggle on Sundays and if Lester can return to form then under is of interest...

TB ml? Garza has been real good vs Boston and the Yanks now faces a CWS lineup which has had trouble with good RHPs...

Under Fla possibly Volstad and Cabrera...

Phillies and under ? avoid the sweep with 2 bullpen losses ..??

one I really like is SF ML . Think Unit gets some payback and just look at Zona vs LHSP so far its pretty weak..Sanchez , Wolf , Stults and Morales 0-4 scored 5 runs in those games .....

might have interest in STL as pitchers who flirted with no hitters last start struggled some next turn so far ...

hard to not like Texas to avoid the sweep but Davies a tough fade at the moment...

just some preliminary stuff..

wouldn't touch the under in the nats game, just my opinion

Been playing the opposite when totals get the key breaks..such as low hits buts alot of runs and vice versa.....

today 11 hits and 9 runs vs FLA and Wash had 7 hits for 6 runs......

essentially hermedia and kearns to thank...Hanly little slump now and sme for Bonafacio ...

yesterday 10 and 12 hits but just 5 runs ..

did the same thing for the TB - Wsox series after game 1 ...played the over because bunch of hits and lots of stranded runners....

Think Volstad will be tough on Wash and Cabrera will be decent ....1st meeting had 15 hits but 10 runs and key bases loaded double by Cantu off Cabrera...

just a lean for now:shake:

Agree its all about cashing in the opportunities but I like to play overs after 1-0 games usually....:shake:

I will probably take it myself. :shake:

Now what about a score like the Tribe @ Yanks today.

Do they tend to stay Under after all those runs even though Pavano is pitching.

Normally I would play an under think NY was 7-3 to the UND after allowing 11++ runs last season. Burnett allowed just 2 last start the day after Wang an Co allowed 15 ...new park is making it tough to (Under is 49-14-5 in Indians last 68 Sunday games) figure and CLe has hit Burnett in the past. Just staying away ....

good to know; i'm still going to take it @ 2.00 the over 9.5 is worth it...cabrera could become the cure the the slumping bats, but who knows, have to agree he's been getting better, but with amaezega back he adds another dynamic tot he game :D:tiphat:

Took Pitt plus 8 cents with Duke. Thought they should have been favored and by tomorrow they may be. Not crazy about Duke tossing 118 pitches last game but he has been pitching well and getting 7 runs a game. Duke is 4-0 lifetime at this park on Sunday and the last time it came up he was facing Vasquez. See this as a losable game but also as a 58% or better one.
Umpire even likes home dogs.

I will probably take it myself. :shake:

Unique factors. Former Yankee prospect on the mound, embarrassed Yankees team, the new stadium is juiced.

Just by flipping the orientation of Yankee's stadium they've somehow given every ball a chance to fly out. It seems shorter than Citizen's Bank Park right now.

Day game and nice warm weather is going to push that ball fast. And Damon should be in left field again so the Injuns will be pushing for every extra base they can get.

National's Disaster
Injury Problems, Closer Problems
washingtonnatinals.jpg

So much to discuss here. Hopefully the Wash Post doesn't rent Internet space on a per-word basis. Leads are getting blown and closers are shaky and outfielders are reporting late to work (because of charity events!) and the DL is piling high enough to reach the clouds. And it's only April 18. Yikes.

First, the injury news. The Roger Bernadina injury is serious. The outfielder, while making a circus catch in the eighth inning, fractured his right ankle. After the game, the Nats placed Bernadina on the 15-day DL; they will recall Justin Maxwell from Class AAA Syracuse for Sunday's game. Maxwell will serve mostly the same role as Bernadina: a defensive specialist who comes off the bench. All the tests on Bernadina's ankle haven't come back yet, so the team doesn't know the full severity of the injury. But it looks like he'll be out months, not weeks.

By the way, because the team wants Elijah Dukes to get the regular at bats in CF, the Nats did not promote Lastings Milledge. Nor did they really consider it. Milledge could be in Syracuse for a while.

"The guy coming in, he's going to be a backup player," Acting GM Mike Rizzo said. "I didn't want Milledge to be a backup player. He needs to get his at bats every day down there. That's the reason we brought up Bernadina, and it's the reason why we're bringing up Maxwell. It gives you a defensive guy that can play center, and a guy that is going to come off the bench."

*Okay, now Joel Hanrahan. He blew a save for the second day in a row, and the Nats have a problem. They have a team that can build leads and a closer who cannot save them. Until Hanrahan figures things out, Washington is left to deal with some gut-wrenching losses. Obviously I'm writing about the closer situation for tomorrow's print edition, but here are four talking points in the interim.

1.) Hanrahan remains the team's closer. Manny Acta said so. Rizzo said so. This makes sense only because Washington really has no backup plan. Sure, you could try Tavarez, but he took the loss today. You could try Beimel, the team's best reliever, but that removes your eighth inning guy, fixing one problem and opening another. Really, the Nats committed to Hanrahan long ago. And they are committed to him for better or worse. If Hanrahan falters, Washington is stuck without a legit contingency plan.

2.) Rizzo called the bullpen a "concern." He elaborates: "Well, yeah, we're blowing a lot of games in the ninth inning. We've played well enough to win four or five games. And yeah, there's a concern in the bullpen. But Hanrahan is our guy. He's got a good arm. He's got good stuff. He's a young closer, and you've got to go through growing pains. But if I looked you in the face and said I'm not concerned about the bullpen -- I can't say that. We've put ourselves in position to win several games here and we haven't done it. But Joel gets the ball tomorrow in the ninth inning with the lead."

3.) Two of the vets I spoke with after this game were both able to talk for three or so minutes without once casting blame on Hanrahan. In fact, Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn found every way to find blame with their own effort -- despite the fact that the lineup scored six runs in the first two innings against Josh Johnson, the erstwhile NL ERA leader. Said Zim: "When we get ahead 6-0, 5-0, we need to kind of step on their throat rather than saying, OK, we're ahead, blah-blah-blah and just kind of try and coast. It's not like we're trying to do that, but we need that killer instinct, I guess."

4.) I've never heard Manny Acta step farther away from the positivism. He (and the rest of the clubhouse) was fairly devastated after this loss. "This is very disappointing and discouraging. It's deflating. There is nothing worse in the game than to be winning for eight innings, do everything right, and then lose it in the ninth. That really just sucks the energy out of everybody. But, you know, he's our closer. He'll bounce back. And we're going to continue to give him the opportunity."

Bonus.) Just because it's on my mind. Wil Ledezma (9.53 ERA) has shown little so far to help his job security. Jason Bergmann, still unscored upon in Syracuse, looks deserving of a spot here. Not a closer's spot, but a spot.
*
Here is what Acta said about Dukes, who showed up late at the ballpark today and consequently was fined and benched. "He was late for work, he broke a team rule, and we are going to change the culture here -- regardless of how well a guy is playing," Acta said. "And it was a bizarre situation, because he was doing something that we encourage our players to do: He was out in the community doing something for some Little League program and just showed up late to work. He was very remorseful about it. He felt bad, but we have to lay the law on whoever."

Obscure stat time...

read this the other day ...

the worst the Yankees have ever been at Yankee Stadium in their entire history is 1 game UNDER 500. It's kinda meaningless now but found that to be amazing that we have never dropped below 1 game under 500 EVER at home....

does it happen in the new park?

fwiw, the grand salami has been going over the total the past 4 days. on wednesday there was a rainout, so those bets were canceled, but the total still would've flown over the posted total. if one likes to bet into a streak, take the over. but, if you chase against a streak, take the under, as it also plays into the sunday-getaway-under theory....:shake:

Good stuff on the Nats certainly will make me look hard at the Nats TT under. Bergmann should definetly be on the roster by now and I would make Tavarez the closer because he has pitched suprisingly well and took the loss in his 2nd inn of work ...

not sure if I should share this guys, but I am on the tear of a lifetime in baseball. Every game I pick turns to gold. Some very unlikely wins. Pads down 7-1 to Hamels, chalk it up. Pads down tonight to Lidge, chalk it up. Nats score the first 5 today, no problem. I just deposited on 5 Dimes 10 days ago. I am 21-3 since. That was why I posted my picks which I usually don't do.

and he really only lost because of defensive incompetence if I recall correctly.

Thanks SportsNut :shake:

t/wreck I am leaning toward the Over, not sure if I will touch it. :shake:

sweet...kinda noticed you have been en fuego ..

5 straight games the Dback`s and their opponent have failed to score a 1 st inn. run....Tied for longest stretch this year in NL ... Cards reached 5 games that ended thurs vs. Cubs...Sets up nice for a 3 game chase ...Longest streak last year was 7 games i believe

brewers at +150 looks good I think. Need to research it a bit more. See no reason not to bet the Royals at plus money.

Great value play IMO tomorrow... O's 1H ML and +0.5.

Sox have never seen uehara and for now it says the wind is blowing in from right center @ 14 mph, which should be able to make his flyballs more effective. O's lookin to avoid the sweep at fenway.

O's are a good fastball hitting team and have always hit lefties well...while lester has good numbers against them in the past, these hitters have really matured since then and he has certainly regressed.
If he continues to leave the ball over the plate like in his first two outings, this lineup--- which is chocked full of fastball hitters @ the 1-5 position, will make him pay.

This sox lineup is still a joke. Youk is on fire and carrying them on his back right now, and drew, pedroia, and bay (when hes not striking out) chipping in at times as well.. But you can pitch around them with these worthless hitters like sean greene or papi who has no bat speed anymore... and ellsbury effective when he gets on base but not doing it this year, .200 hitter. lowells injurys catching up to him just looks like an old assed man.

pitt is another live home doggy w/ Duke on the hill. Vasquez is another guy I like to fade. He gets a little too much respect plus McCann is just awful against LHP. I would bet he isn't in the lineup. Bucs +112

Locked in royals at +116.

May wait on lineups tomorrow for some of these.

updated leans:
CLE ML: Crawford's away teams were an impressive 14-9 (60.9%) last year, 0-2 this year though.
PIT ML: Emmel's home teams last year were 19-15 (55.9%), 2-0 this year
CHW/TB o9: Davis wasn't a big over guy last year at only 17-15 (53.1%) o/u, but he's 3-0 o/u so far this season and i'm tempted to ride the wave.
SF ML: Bell's home teams were 24-12 (66.7%) last year, this year 1-0.
ARI/SF u8.5: Bell was 11-19 (63.3%) o/u last year, this year he's 1-0 o/u
CHC ML: Reliford's home teams last year were 17-11 (60.7%), 1-2 this year though

and of course i do like the cubs tomorrow as well but the bullpen situation is probably going to keep me off them. Heilman pitched a 3rd day in a row, Marmol pitched in two innings (also pitched Friday), and Gregg pitched 2 innings as well. they're probably going to be counting on Vizcaino at some point to get a big out. Cotts is worthless and needs to be waived. Lilly will need to work at least 7. I'd wait on the wind before backing him. He's a beast if the wind blows in, gives up the long ball when it blows out.

Oh and fyi, the Sox always own the Orioles. I've been trying to play the O's for a while this season, but something about BAL makes them lose almost every game to Boston it seems.

70% chance of rain tomorrow in chicago. supposed to be cold again too. same conditions that lilly pitched his last start in. If that holds, I would prob like the Cubs.

Gwarner, they have a good shot tomorrow.

They were up 7-0 early in the 2nd innning in game one, and managed to blow it and found themselves tied 8-8 after 5, but wasnt all guthries fault, a big error by huff at 1st with bases loaded 2 out on a easy routine ground ball scored 2 and kept the inning alive, and then another run followed to tie it, then took the lead in the 6th and won.

Today they were throwing eaton. The game was over before it started. The biggest chalk all season and its not the yankees, and a 4-6 team at that, lol. -270/-280 shows how the books feel about eaton.

Tomorrow they have a great shot IMO, and theyll look to avoid the sweep and break the emotional chains from their terrible record at fenway.

Oh and fyi, the Sox always own the Orioles. I've been trying to play the O's for a while this season, but something about BAL makes them lose almost every game to Boston it seems.

Lester is 6 - 0 vs the O's.

Lester's mechanics are not nearly what they were in previous years though. And until he corrects that hes to be faded IMO, especially with the price theyre giving us.
O's are a great fastball hitting team and its going to be a tough matchup for him getting through this top half of the lineup comprised of guys that look for the fastball.

chipper is supposed to be back tomorrow since his thumb doesnt hurt as much batting from the right side

mcdonald was dealing vs. the dbacks in his first game but gave up a solo jack to Young to lead off an inning (3rd or 4th) and lost it mentallyas he couldn't find the strike zone after that. looked good in his relief appearence earlier this week but not sure he can be trusted for multiple innings since hes only got 2 pitches at this point (fastball and change)

itll be interesting to see what Torre does with the lineup tomorrow. Ethier batted .400 + in front of manny last year and CRUSHED the ball today batting in front of manny for the first time this season at the 2 spot. Furcal will be back to leadoff tomorrow. the ball was jumpin off bats today and the forcast for sunday is actually warmer than it was for saturday

The following series SD/Philly Cin/Hou and Bal/Bos all have game 4's tomorrow.... Just a heads up for anybody that likes to play against a sweep since it would apply to 2 of the three

tend to agree with you, but the only negative was o's were terrible on sundays last year...

Yea, I like the O's too 1st 5 - I had them 1st 5 w/ Guthrie and the Huff blew it...
Lester is still not right (tho he will be)
Koji pitched at Tex - that might skew things - look what he did vs the Yanks - 1 run, 5 hits in 5 innings - it was at home tho

Also like the Twins vs a minor league pitcher...Perkins had a good outing vs LAA last year
Like Pitt too...

afternoon plays : Chisox ML - probably should take +1.5 because i think low scoring game but im a sucker for the value. sox are rolling right now and somehow undervalued (parlayed with TB being overvalued imo)

minny ML : i've rode minny hard the first two games and i might as well do it again. kubel is crazy right now and angels are beginning to reel.

oak ML : the odds kinda suck but i think oakland has better than a 50% shot here. probably not an easy bet with how damn well toronto is playing but ill take a shot.
