Memphis in a good position for a win, ( not saying they cover) today, and then play at Phoenix tomorrow

East Nos. 1-2: Heat, Pacers

Sure. Miami beats the pants off the Pacers on Friday without Dwyane Wade, Wade comes back Saturday, and the Heat lose to the Hawks. Why not.

So the Heat have lost control of their own destiny for the No. 1 seed. They're tied with the Pacers who have clinched tiebreaker by conference record after the Heat loss. If the Pacers beat the Thunder and Orlando, they get home court. The scenarios:

If Indiana goes 2-0, they clinch the No.1 seed.

If Miami goes 1-1, Indiana must go 1-1 to get the No. 1 seed.

If Miami goes 0-2, Indiana clinches the No. 1 seed.

For Miami to clinch the No.1 seed, they must go 2-0 and Indiana go 1-1 or 0-2, OR Miami must go 1-1 and IND must go 0-2.

Relevant games Sunday: Indiana takes on Oklahoma City for a 1PM ET game against the Thunder who are much, much better than them right now. It's a huge game for Indiana as stated above, but considering they haven't been able to be competitive with anyone good for weeks, you can't have much confidence in them.

East Nos. 3-5: Raptors, Bulls, and Nets (No action Saturday.)

With a chance to clinch their first division title since 2007 and eliminate the Knicks... the Raptors choked and lost. But never fear! The Nets lost in uninspired fashion to the Hawks, clinching the Atlantic Division for the Raptors and home court advantage in the first round.

The Bulls came from behind vs. Detroit, which puts them out of reach of Brooklyn, so... Brooklyn can finish no higher than fifth. They'll start the playoffs on the road. The Nets' magic number for the fifth seed is two.

Chicago also went a game up on the Raptors. Chicago's magic number for the third seed is three.

Relevant games Sunday: Toronto plays Detroit. They've clinched the division and home court in the first round. So they don't have a lot to play for but the sixth seed is a much better matchup than Brooklyn.

Speaking of, Brooklyn plays Orlando. The Magic have been pesky lately. Brooklyn's magic number for the fifth seed is two. A win or Bobcats loss and they clinch no-worse-than-sixth.

The Bulls face the Knicks who have nothing left to play for. Their magic number for the No. 3 seed is three.

East Nos. 8-9: Hawks, Knicks
It's over. The Knicks are eliminated. The Hawks have clinched the eighth seed.
The Hawks finished 2-2 against both Indiana and Miami in the regular season.

West Nos. 1-2: Spurs, Thunder, Clippers
The Spurs win over Phoenix Friday clinched homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs for San Anonio.
The Thunder won Friday, so their magic number for the 2-seed is one. The Rockets loss clinched no-worse-than-third for the Clippers.
The Clippers won. They're 2.5 games back with three to play for OKC.
If OKC goes 0-3, the Clippers can clinch the two-seed by going 2-0.
If OKC goes 1-2, 2-1, or 3-0, they clinch the No.2 seed.
Relevant games Sunday: OKC takes on Indiana. A win clinches the 2-seed for the Thunder.

West Nos. 4-6: Rockets, Blazers, Warriors
Houston barely got by the Pelicans, so that's not exactly reassuring. But it's a win, and their magic number for the fourth seed and homecourt is one.
Portland's magic number for no-worse than fifth is one.
The Mavericks have tied the Warriors in the wins column. It would take an epic collapse, but Golden State can finish as low as eighth.
Relevant games Sunday: Golden State plays Portland. A Portland win clinches no worse than fifth and a matchup with the Rockets for the Blazers.
A Golden State loss moves them just a half-game ahead of Dallas for sixth.

West Nos. 8-9: Suns, Mavericks, Grizzlies
The Suns suffer back to back devastating fourth quarter collapses to San Antonio and Dallas and now their playoff hopes are on life support. Their tragic number is two. Any combination of two Grizzlies wins or Suns losses and Memphis clinches the final playoff spot.
Memphis can finish as high as sixth, the Suns can finish no higher than eighth.
Memphis and Phoenix play Monday.
Relevant games Sunday: Memphis plays the Lakers Sunday. Memphis can lose the game to Phoenix Monday and still clinch a playoff berth with a win over Dallas who would likely be resting starters Wednesday, if they beat the Lakers.

Actually I guess the nets do have the 5th/6th seed seed to play for sorry. Still wouldn't lay 10 against Orlando

Updated the lines.

Like the Bulls and maybe again... the Pacers...

Obvious reasons...

Knicks should be really deplated and I wouldn't be surprised if they shut down Melo for the season.

Thunder got nothing to play for as they are in the second place - 99.9%.

Pacers saw that Heat gave them another huge chance to finish first in the East.
Pacers at home play much better and against a team that is done for the season - can and should wrap it up.

Very hard to bet on the Pacers, so still thinking about this one...

How does the league help fire back up one of its early season darlings so that people will be drawn to them again in the playoffs?

With a home cooking blowout win of the league's best team.

Is someone out for OKC? Why is this line 7.5 points stronger than the Spurs line a week ago?

Over 9-1 the last 10 in Indiana between Thunder and Pacers, Over 18-4 the last 22 overall, but you're pretty much asking the Thunder to do all the scoring, no? It's a moral victory when the Pacers get to 80 these days...

I don't think OKC can dump a game. You think Durant's gonna go out and not play well? Westbrook playing today, and sitting tomorrow, tells me all I need to know. I wouldn't bet Indiana with my enemies money, that team is done.

Orlando is horrific on the road, but 10 is probably the right line.

Things aren't making sense yet. OKC has totally handled IND the last 3 games, when IND wasn't in a nasty slump.
This is the final BC "danger zone" game of the season, with OKC on its second game back from a 4 game trip.
At first this morning it looked like there was reverse line movement swinging 2 points to make it easier to bet on OKC even though 65% of the bets were already on OKC. Now as the bets accumulate, it looks like 53% of the bets are on IND, so the line movement isn't really in reverse any more.

Let's talk some playoff seeding. Huge game for Portland as they're trying to get that 4 seed instead of the 5 which would determine home court. They're only 1 game out and they're pretty much going to be facing Houston, home court just needs to be decided. I think they give a big effort at home tonight. Line already moved from -3 to -3.5.

OKC can't catch the Spurs for the 1 seed and the clips can't catch them for the 2 seed so they're pretty much set. Play on Indy?

Memphis is currently the 8th seed and control their destiny with a 1 up advantage on the Suns in the loss column. 12.5 points is a lot on the road but with the magnitude of the game I think they route the Lakers.

Pip,
OKC is on the road, not at home. They aren't on a B2B, I think you are looking ahead to Monday.

Saying the Thunder have nothing to play for is simply inaccurate:

If OKC goes 0-3, the Clippers can clinch the two-seed by going 2-0.
If OKC goes 1-2, 2-1, or 3-0, they clinch the No.2 seed.

yup and the line moving from -1 to -2.5 would only make me like okc more tbh, its a dummy move imo

No, not b2b, this is their second game played after returning from a 4-game road trip, as far as I can tell.

Saying the Thunder have nothing to play for is simply inaccurate:

If OKC goes 0-3, the Clippers can clinch the two-seed by going 2-0.
If OKC goes 1-2, 2-1, or 3-0, they clinch the No.2 seed.
:shake: my bad. I thought OKC had the tie-breaker.

NBAFAN - "yup and the line moving from -1 to -2.5 would only make me like okc more tbh, its a dummy move imo" -agreed. Hit 2.5 and got knocked down to 2.

Cog -

If I'm Thunder, I would dump this game 100%.
Thunder own Pacers, but struggle against Heat (1 - 7 SU last 8 games). I would rather have Heat having the tougher series, playing Charlotte/ Wizards and not Hawks the first round and then Bulls in the second round and then Pacers without HCA in EC Finals.

So clips and OKC are tied 2-2 in head to heads, what's the next factor to determine who goes to the higher seed? Conference record? Anybody?

I doubt OKC loses all 3 and Clips win both their games but I guess the possibility is there.

I love how the Western Conf is shaping up in matchups. Some great series potentially. GSW and Clips would be very entertaining as they hate the shit out of each other. Port/Hou would be a good one too. Spurs/Mem will not be a lock for SA. And OKC/Dallas won't be that great, OKC should roll.

I would do everything I could to make Miami go through Chicago/Indiana to get to the finals.

Wow, great, great point.

Guys, OKC plays @ NO. A team they just thumped by 22 and it was 30 at one point. Who has shut down its entire starting lineup PLUS Tyreke.

Then they also host Detroit @ home.

OKC does not need this game.

Tiebreaker Basis
(-) Tie breaker not needed (better overall winning percentage)
(1) Division leader wins tie from team not leading a division
(2) Head-to-head won-lost percentage
(3) Division won-lost percentage
(4) Conference won-lost percentage
(5) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, own conference
(6) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, other conference
(7) Net Points, all games

thanks hugh, just found it too

Two-team tiebreaker:

  1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
  2. Better record in head-to-head games
  3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
  4. Higher winning percentage in conference games
  5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference (including tied teams)
  6. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference (including tied te

The odds of OKC losing @ Pelicans as a -13 favorite and at home as a -15 to Detroit (if they need to win it) are less than 1 in 200.

I just never thought that way as an athlete. If I tanked to make it harder on Miami , I would be admitting to myself that Miami is better than I am.

Not saying that okc won't tank ... or just be flat ..... just saying that I think it is kind of chickenshit if they do.

I think it's a combination of things... that they can't improve or lose position really. Locked in as 2 in West.

Miami dominates them.

I just think there is a bunch of incentive, including most of all, TV ratings, by Indiana showing fans on national tv that they aren't broke.

Prime time game so I don't think a guys like Westbrook and Durant can just lay down. But yeah, it would benefit them long term if things worked out.

This is COMPLETELY out of the Thunders control. Not to mention Pacers aren't going to make it out of round 1. Bit of a reach here don't ya think? Thunder dumping a game now to set up their finals opponent?

Again, at -1.5 Pacers. This is 6.5 points more love by the books for the Pacers than vs. the Spurs a week ago!

I am not arguing against the angle ,,,, just saying back when I was an athlete it wasn't in my dna

Not necessarily in their control... Coach may sit them longer or rest them in the 4th.. Players can leave it out on the floor only if they are playing..

Right now sportsbook spy is showing 3776 (comparatively low bet volume) bets split 51/49 between IND and OKC. If this keeps up, it means to me that the books don't really have a horse in this race...

If the books don't appear to know anything special, then I am inclined to go with my gut, which says that OKC will completely mangle IND...

Screw the %'s... all whacked out anyway. I see 63/37 on OKC and 54/46 on the ML favoring OKC.

I still have not gotten ANY reasoning on why this line is 6.5 points stronger for Indiana than it was for the Spurs last week.

Opened almost 8 points stronger and since that game Spurs lost to OKC and OKC went on the road and beat the Clippers.

However, the Clippers handed that game away. OKC legs looked very, very, tired.

totally agree with this quote….besides i bet if you asked all the players on okc where they stand and the impact of winning or losing this game there might be two that could answer….but i doubt it

Line back to a PK basically which is where it should have opened.

Again, very, very strong line for Indiana still and you have to believe that the books thought Westbrook would have been rested.
