Memphis on a 4-0 Over run (5-0 Over L5 @home) vs. Atlanta's 6-0 Under run (3-0 Under L3 away).

Memphis 8-2 ATS L10 after a 6-18-1 ATS run to open the season. Clearly a team in the middle of delivering a stat regression. Since their ATS win rate still only reads a paltry 40%, wouldn't expect them to lurch back into any significant ATS droughts for a weewhile yet.

Atlanta is 3-7 ATS L10 away and is 1-6 SU & 2-5 ATS this season off consecutive SU wins, entering this contest off 2 such results. The only team they've beaten for a 3rd straight SU win this season is
*drum roll* the Utah Jazz.

Atlanta is 4-11 ATS in their 15 SU losses as a Dog this season. Memphis is 5-2-1 ATS in SU wins @home as a Fav.

  • Atlanta center Pero Antic will miss tonight’s game with back spasms. Starting in his place will be Gustavo Ayon, who is averaging three points and four rebounds. Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said he opted to go with Ayon because he wanted to leave Elton Brand with the second unit. “I really like the second group and what that group has been able to do for us,” Budenholzer said. “Elton does a lot of different things with them.”
  • Memphis guard Tony Allen will miss his fourth straight game with a sprained left wrist. Mike Miller will again get the start in his place.
  • Grizzlies forward Ed Davis is coming off game in which he had a career-high 17 rebounds against Phoenix. That set a new club record for rebounds by a reserve player. In his last five games, Davis is averaging 10.8 points and nine rebounds. “Sometimes he eases into games,” coach Dave Joerger said. “Sometimes he eases into seasons. I think he was disappointed he didn’t get the run early in the season. … Now he’s showing that I can put a lot of confidence in him. His runs are a lot longer. He’s doing a lot of good things that aren’t just statistical. He’s doing a much better job defending pick-and-roll, which with his athleticism, he should be a very good pick-and-roll defender.”

[h=2]CAVALIERS AT KINGS, 6:00 P.M. ET[/h] January 12, 2014 · 5:33PM
TV: League Pass

  • Both the Sacramento Kings (12-22) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (13-23) are riding two game win streaks when they match up this afternoon at Sleep Train Arena. Sacramento leaves for a six game road trip tomorrow, while Cleveland is playing their second game of season-long five game trip out west.
  • Kings coach Michael Malone worked as an assistant coach on Mike Brown‘s staff in Cleveland from 2005-2010. “He’s a guy who’s worked his tail off,” Brown said. “He’s been around the game his entire life and he was ready for it. For him to get this opportunity with a young team, having a chance to grow with this young team, is a phenomenal opportunity for him and he’s going to do well, as long as he gets time here.”
  • “All of the ability and freedom he gave me to coach, allowed for me to kind of make a name for myself.” –Malone on Brown
  • Cleveland picked up All-Star forward Luol Deng earlier this week in a deal with the Chicago Bulls. “To add a professional to the table like Luol that knows how to play on both ends of the floor and is a guy that can lead off the floor too, as well as on the floor, is something that our team needed,” coach Brown said. “It gives a lot of credibility to what we’re trying to say and teach as coaches when you have a guy like Luol backing it and preaching the same message too.”
  • “It’s always a lot easier when that major cog is an All-Star and such a high character culture guy. Luol Deng is not a guy that’s going to be demanding 20 shots a game. He’s going to try and fit in. That’s the luxury of having a guy like that.” –Malone on Cleveland’s acquisition of Deng
  • Sacramento announced early Sunday that they had allocated rookie guard Ray McCallum to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League. But they later rescinded the allocation and McCallum is expected to be in uniform with the Kings this afternoon.

Still sick.

Twice they lost 2 in a row and then won 2 in a row.
They are set to lose today but could cover.

W/ regards to Memphis, Courtney Lee is gonna start, they wanna keep Miller w/ second team.

I'm playing UNDER in Spurs/Minny, two of my best totals formulas are on it. Danny Green in the starting lineup for Spurs should help.

Something I noted about Cleveland but failed to post before today's game (because it wasn't relevant to the spread)...

Cleveland's losing margins this season (incl. their loss to Sactoe) -

1-7 pts.....: 12 times
8-14 pts...: 1 time
15+ pts....: 11 times

These guys, for whatever reason, have simply failed to lose games by a typical margin range. Since this range fits right into where you'd expect spreads to predominate for them vs. better teams (+7.5 to +13.5), then basically you're being asked to cap either a close game (re them covering the spread) or to otherwise have no fear laying what might be a significant number.

Of course now I've posted it, expect a regression where 8-10 of their next 12 losses are by 8-14 pts.

Kevin Love 3/14, Kevin Martin 2/11

At what point do you realize that maybe you're hurting your team's chances and should let someone else shoot the ball for a change?

16-0 run bridged the 3rd & 4th quarters, from down 12 to up by 4 in that span.

Atlanta's last 7 ATS losses were to Eastern conference teams. They do not like the West and play very hard against them and they were on 1 day rest which is very good for them and 0 look ahead. Only team that tried. Will add up their Western ATS record when I feel better.
Was 10-4 now 10-5

Seems like the inertia off 2 SU wins drags them down no matter what other pointers go towards their spot, tuck. Seriously, 1 whole 3 win streak with nearly half the season gone, and that occasion only because they got Utah 3rd up.
