STEED n JUMP Vs. SCHRUTE n M.W. in-game

Someone explain to me again why a late hit on a 4th-down play isn't a first down? How did Ohio State get the ball?

it happened after the play was short of the 1st down line...so possession changes to ohio st, then they are backed up 15...it's kinda stupid

Clemson moving easily, still don't see them not marching 2nd half. Boyd's dumb play took 3 minimum off the board if not 7.

How did millen con the lions into giving him a GM job and then con ESPN into doing these big games. He is fucking awful.

standing pat again

By definition a late hit is after the play.

Right, but it doesn't usually occur on 4th down. That's where the confusion set in. If it's 3rd down they still have possession. When it's 4th down, the possession has changed hands technically.

So how is a late hit or unsportsmanlike penalty assessed on a similar play involving a qb or receiver? Assume 4th and whatever....incomplete pass but late hit. The play is over short of the line to gain but they're given a first down correct??

What am I missing?

So if its 4th & 1, and the guy is stopped short. But while on the ground the guy hits him late, its not an auto first down?

Again, I think we all agree that the refs made a bad call. No one is saying otherwise.

Still my favorite picture

Late hits are dead ball fouls. Remember the Clay Matthews late hit? Dead ball fouls are after change of possession.
