Season suspended indefinitely

ESPN/ABC/ TNT are heavily involved in this, so just my thought is that there are people who def don't think NFL and college will start on time.

Just a guess on my part, but maybe they won't go head to head with football because football won't start until October

I've also heard NFL will start to come off timeline soon unless states start relaxing policies even more

some of this push into later July have to do with players who are currently living overseas, isn't there a mandatory 14 day quarantine?

the NBA once they get to Orlando, isn't FL a 14 day quarantine as well? So would that push a guy overseas to at least 28 days before they could officially play a game? Then you have to have I would say at minimum 2 weeks to prepare with scrimmages, practices , etc...So it starts to make sense why late July would be the start time

it does sound like this will probably be right into playoffs, maybe include some current 9 and 10 seeds, but NBA does not seem to want all 30 or so teams in Orlando
NHL has more players overseas, right?

I'd love NFL to push back a month.

Too many events in Sept.

NFL really messed up not doing ooc games first month.

it was grouping all the teams like the World Cup does and everyone in that group would play each other twice and then the top 2 of each group would then make the playoff

isnt that only being proposed to fill out the 7 and 8 seeds ?

Wonder if Disney's intention to open Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11 will have an effect on the single location idea. Same with Vegas casinos getting reopened in June/July as well. I'm sure the single location was based on trying to avoid travel hazards but now travelers will be coming back to Disney and Vegas. They've dragged their feet so long on this they've lost an window of exclusivity. Does Silver really think he'll be able to keep these guys sequestered for months and avoid interaction with the outside world? At this point they should probably regroup and go back to teams playing in their own buildings. And show some backbone and plan for at least 33% attendance while you're at it.

Yeah, I agree here.

These teams travel privately as is.

You can even do 2-3-2 all series if need be.

Disney sports complex is basically it's own little city.

Nhl is doing same date planning

I dont get it at all

Wonder if they are hearing something from governments that is causing them to both choose that date
NHL had it right the first time with July 6th.

That's 5+ weeks to get things ready to go.

2 weeks quarantine and 2 weeks camp.

Blah blah about guys returning from overseas. Test them at the airport. Easy peasy.

It is interesting , are they thinking the further they push this out the better chance they may be able to have fans in some capacity.

these leagues really do not want to play without fans, I get it, but you can't delay the season for forever

THAT is a good point. I hadn't even considered that. Certainly could be - but we may be giving them too much credit.

I meant to comment on this the other day but good point.

I think a lot would depend on how Florida is doing say by mid July?

NBA going with those 15-16 day series as usual, eh?

There is no freaking travel guys.

My gosh. Throw in some b2bs in first two rounds.

When they gonna tip next season off? February?

jfc. Unreal. the way the drag out the 1st few rounds always been a huge turnoff for me. You would think this the perfect storm to actually get series in a timely fashion, makes so much sense for several reasons. I thought this thing was gonna give nba a chance to be innovative as they always claiming to be? Guess not.

Well they’re doing just fine now, why we’d have to wait until mid July to ascertain that is beyond me.

how many regular season games do they plan on playing.

are you telling me I have to sit through 10 days to watch the Bucks sweep their first round opponent ?

I see why they would want to have all the teams playing in one location at the outset as it helps limit travel on planes to different locations. What I don't understand is once the playoffs begin, why not keep the same home and home format. You are only traveling between two cities with the same people anyway and exposure is maybe less because you are only involving 2 teams at one location vs 22 in Orlando.

Because they have to continue the Covid narrative.

All these leagues need to take a cue from the protesters and say fuck it, we're opening our arenas and playing out the season in our home buildings, WITH FANS. Dare these pussy governors to stop them. The jig is up on keeping things closed down for COVID.
