teedub, liking the under in stl tomorrow, your thoughts?

Not a great totals player True, but I would worry about a couple things related to the under. 1) Lohse recent downward trend, 2) the cards are streaky hitters and right now they are smokin hot.. To be honest would definately lean the over.. Agree, contrarian play would be under tho.. GL

Pavano had 5 minor league rehabs. Only 1 bad but they were short and single and double a games.

Excellent job Tee with the Cards today ...massacre ! Saved me some loot but not enough (lol) ...

Two things about the ATL/STL game is 1st Lohse has terrible day splits and the lastfew times I recall him starting in the day he lived up to those stats. The second is Campillo has had issues in the 1st inning past few times out . He allowed a leadoff hr to Drew 3 starts ago and believe he allowed 3 runs in each of his last 2 starts in the 1st to Chi and SF both were home and his road splits are ridiculous but the latter was also in the day . So not sure situational stats mean much for him as he appears to be struggling to find his grove in his games recently...

Wow , what crack are they smoking to make Lohse just -150? Expected at least -180 ...

If you guys are talking about the LAD / Philly game its Hamels and Co all the way ....LA is in a mini funk for sure IMO and Philly is slowly starting to snap out of there's. I for one love SP rematches in the following week . Hamels outdueled Kershaw and lost just like Johan did @ Oswalt . Was all over the Mutts today , 1st game score prop , 1st 5 inn ML , game ML and -1.5 RL...wasnt easy but they led 1-0 after 1 and 3-0 after 2 and coasted the rest of the way with not much from Houston after the 4th that I recall......

Hamels ...Philly ML and probably -1.5 .....always tough to beat the same lineup twice in a short time span even harder to beat the same opposing SP .....

Lets not forget Philly was swept 4 games @ LAD and the Mets are winning near everyday ...and they are cocky bunch of MoFo's who when they get going streak ...

Hamels is cheap below -200 . I hate his day splits because usually the one poor starts he ever has come in the daytime and maybe Sat's . A few things stand out besides what I said . First Kershaw does NOT go deep in games He once went past 6 innings , he hasnt been consistent on the road but does like day starts , and he was solid but unspectular at home vs Philly one would expect some regression facing them on the road. You can look at STL now and think impressive start but as I said at that time STL was not hitting LHP at all. It was just about every LH they faced keeping them to 2-3 runs for awhile even guys like Nate Robertson and Sean Marshall did @ STL a day after Ted Lilly impressed . CC shut them down at home and so on. Stats look good but it was a great spot for him. Facing tougher lineups for a LH after that but at home he was hit abut harder (Philly and Milw) . LAD has some solid arms out there but they are very hittable .....Hamels very good chance to go 7 inn maybe 8 inn and turn it to Lidge if need be....

LAD is just scuffling and wont be suprised when they lose 3 of 4 here ....

Since the All-Star break(ASB), Florida is...

13-5 SU off a loss
3-12 SU off a win

...but, even worse, 0-8 SU off their last 8 wins.

Their performances off a win since the ASB have stayed steady (at no time have they won more than 2 straight), but their performances off a loss are progressively getting worse.

Prior to the ASB, they averaged 4.86 runs/game, whereas since the ASB they've averaged 4.00 runs/game. Mirroring this offensive decline is the performance of 2 key players -

Dan Uggla
pre-ASB: .286 avg, hitting 1 HR every 3.52 games started
post-ASB: .209 avg, hitting 1 HR every 8.25 games started

Hanley Ramirez
pre-ASB: .311 avg, hitting 1 HR every 4.04 games started
post-ASB: .252 avg, hitting 1 HR every 7.75 games started

Obviously their heavy Over ways pre-ASB have taken a downward turn -

pre-ASB: O/U 54-32-9 .... 33.7% Unders
post-ASB: O/U 15-19 ..... 55.8% Unders

going to just start keeping track of everything i am following in one post instead of having to sort through previous discussion days.

In San Francisco's last 17 losses they are 0-17 when given the +1.5 run line and additionally 4-40 in their last 44 losses.

In 25 games started by Barry Zito, San Francisco is 8-17. In 16 of the 17 losses, the opponent has won by 2 or more runs (94%). San Francisco has provided Zito with a mere 27 runs in those 17 losses - an average of 1.59 RPG.

In Cincinnati's 14 August losses they are 1-13 when given the +1.5 run line.

Despite going 10-9 in their last 19 games against left-handed starters, Florida's lack of run production has been consistently poor. In 18 of the 19 games, the opposing starters have tossed 108 innings giving up only 34 earned runs (2.83 ERA). Whether or not Florida wins seems to rest completely on their starting pitching and the opponent's relief pitching since Florida has tapped out at 3 runs or less against the lefty starter in 18 of those 19 games (2, 2, 0, 3, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2, 2, 0, 2, 2, 3). The one exception was the 7 runs scored in 1.2 innings against the turbulent Jorge De La Rosa who couldn't find the strike zone.

Randy Johnson has recorded 9 consecutive quality starts logging 59.2 innings and striking out 57 batters while walking only 7. During this span the Big Unit's ERA is 2.13 and WHIP is 0.96.

Derek Lowe has recorded 10 quality starts in his last 11 at home logging 76.6 innings and striking out 55 batters while walking only 13. During this span Lowe's ERA is 2.35 and WHIP is 1.08.

John Maine has pitched past the 6th inning in 2 of his 24 starts this year.

Jeff Suppan's success at home has hit a roadblock. In Soup's first 6 starts at home he recorded 6 quality starts with a sterling 1.67 ERA and 2 HR allowed in 43 innings. Last 3 home starts: 15.00 ERA and 4 HR allowed in 10.2 innings.

Since July the 21st, the Texas Rangers are...

- 10-3 SU in games which they've scored 6+ runs (10-2-1 to Over)

- 2-15 SU in games which they've scored 0-5 runs (9-8 to Under)

Since July the 22nd, the Atlanta Braves are...

- 9-3 SU in games which they've scored at least 5 runs (11-1 to Over)

- 0-18 SU in games which they've scored 4 runs or less (9-8-1 to Under)

Philadelphia is 12-4 SU (.750) in their last 16 home games they've scored at least 1 run in.

LA is 2-5 SU (.286) on the road with Manny in their lineup.

for those looking at Oakland/Seattle:

Since being designated for assignment, Dana Eveland is 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 21 strikeouts to 4 walks in 21 innings for Triple-A Sacramento. Eveland was having all sorts of problems after the all-star break, but the numbers say he seems to have tweaked them at the minor league level.

Tom Gorzelanny is 2-0 in 3 starts (18.2 innings) for Triple-A Indianapolis in August. The Pirates left-hander has a 1.45 ERA while striking out 20 and walking only 1 during this month. Since being designated for assignment, Gorzelanny is 3-1 (2.06 ERA) in 7 starts (35 innings) with 33 strikeouts to only 4 walks in Triple-A.

Strong Lean to UNDER @ Tor .

Well established the trouble Tor has had in 2008 vs LHSP with Andy Pettitte's recent performance a solid indicator . Lester has been very consistent with quality start after quality start. His 2 career starts one home and one away have been very solid . He outdueled Halladay at home 1-0 and won in the b9th . On the other side Jesse Litsch gets his 2nd startt since his recall. One issue is its been 9 days since his last start but he had a similiar layoff earlt on this year and pitched a gem at home vs KC when he was in a good groove. In 3 of his career starts vs Boston he has been solid and believe those games saw the Sox score like 1-2-1 runs the entire games.....WOuld hate to fade Lester but +1.5 RL may present some strong value . Litsch has failed to deliver Tor a win in 10 of 11 starts ....but if he duplicate his last outing one would think he catches the break here rather then when he was on the road trying for a 4 game sweep...Bos now only 2-12 on turf .

UND trends -
Jays 21-11 UNDvs LHSP (also 12-7 UND in Aug an 47-27 L3 Augusts)

Lester 2 career starts 14.1 inn 4 h 1 r vs Tor

Toronto at home to lefties not a pretty story offensively

8 times totals of 0-3 runs
8 times totals of 4-5 runs
1 time a total of 6+ runs*

*opposing starter with a season road ERA of 7.41 - Lester's road ERA is 3.41, which further drops to 2.00 vs AL East opponents.

So pretty much 50% of the time Toronto gives their starter basically nothing offensively, and 50% of the time not a helluva lot more than "nothing".

Boston has winning margins of 5, 2, 3, 3, 7, 4 & 3 runs in Lester road starts they've won. They're 0-2 SU in his road starts decided by 1 run (only 4 of his 26 starts have been decided by 1 run margins this season - 15.3% of the time, well below the league average).

Ever since Jason Bay got his first game out of the way for Boston, the Red Sox offense has been humming -

1 time a totals of 0-2 runs (a home game)
3 times totals of 3-4 runs
14 times totals of 5+ runs (77.8%)

Boston is 8-2 SU their last 10 away vs righty staters, having scored at least 5 runs in 8 of those games.

Good stuff BC. Not sure I touch a side just looking at the total . If you want to laugh check there road output vs LHSP its much worse (not suprisingly but its like OAK standards). Especially if you a dig a bit and see the 3-0 win they had @ CLE when Lee started was actually 0-0 after 9 innings .....

SN,

I must admit that you are one of the few I look at their selections because you put so much effort in making your case. But I haven't been keeping record of your selections like I have the others so I don't know where your strengths and weaknesses are. If you want to know for yourself, you MUST keep a record so you know just what pitcher, team and/or plays are winning or losing. That is absolutely vital to be on top of your game. It is tough to do because we don't like to see our errors uncovered, but believe me you will excel when you are able to do this. Nobody running a business sells merchandise and has no idea what is selling or not selling! It is the same principle!

Another suggestion is the old saying from the racetrack, "Stick with the horse you picked in your room"! This will prevent second guessing when something or someone distracts you. There are plenty of land mines out there before you make your wager. That doesn't mean you should not be open to others that you respect their opinions and see what they are doing, but if you change your play, it is always best to error on the side of underdog because if you are wrong 50/50, you will still be ahead!

You made a very good decision on Washington and over yesterday. It was not easy to go over 12 with the enemic lineup that Washington has, but the stat when the line is 11 1/2 at Chicago that the game goes over, etc. was the key YOU uncovered! When the rain delay came, I second guessed myself that the wind might have calmed down and the fact that Lannan had shut out Chicago in his only start made me parlay the under 6 1/2 in the first five! It is not like that couldn't have happened, but when they put a 12 up, you have to give the linemakers a "little" respect which you did! :tiphat:

I'm glad you are taking time to go out and play basketball and keep in shape physically. Don't forget to have other balances in your life like you mentioned a few weeks ago. That will take the stress and tension out because making decisions to "put your money where your mouth is" can have plenty of roller coaster rides. That is why is always wise to not not too high when winning, because losing will humble you and deflate your ego too much! And don't try to mix too many sports together, you will be much more successful when you specialize in only one or two! Jack of all trades and Master of None also comes to mind!

Those are just my opinions, and if you don't like them, I have plenty more!

Again, my best wishes to you for a great finish to the BB season! :shake:

Looking at these Stats makes me want to play Under+Bos RL. Whats even more interesting, is that the loss of Drew (so far) doesnt really impact the Sox run production. Thats a hell of a stat with Bay in the lineup!
Team total currently @4.5 minus juice. Is that an indicator that the books like Boston not to go over the 5? Seems like they want to lure everybody into taking the Over, no?

Will LAD give Kershaw run support? Because 3 runs would have been enough to win last night with the pitiful bats they brought to Maddux's debut.

Kaz getting + money vs. vazquez does nothing for anyone?

Javy has been filthy the past 2 times out and tends to be streaky . Some real good starts vs TB in the past as well. Kaz seems to be getting back into form but still going about 6 innings and the TB pen get worked lately . Yesterday the WSox handed them that game . If you look at the recap Sox had 2 men on every inn early for 4 or 5 innings but didnt score to the b4th I believe. So instead of 6-0 it was just 2-0 and TB fought back. Typically not putting ur opponent away . Also WSox have a very solid record at home vs LHSP especially of late . Personally looking @ WS (again).

Agree. The Phillies should win today as their bats, specifically Utley, are starting to wake up some. The Dodgers are in funk and just not a good road team. Manuel finally made a very positive change in the batting lineup by putting Burrell at third. This puts more runners on base for Howard and will give him more to hit. They also move Victorino up to fifth as he has been excellent over the last month.

As far as the Mets, they are playing very well at the moment. They've always been great frontrunners but eventually their pen will blow some games and their bats will cool down. I want to see how they handle the inevitable tough stretch. Let's hope we get to see them humbled again by September 30.

Not a very appetizing card in my opinion. The lines are ridiculous but I believe this is more of a reflection of having numerous matchups between teams that have given up on the season against contending teams.

Kinda like the Rays +125 and the Orioles RL.

Sports nut: Thanks , U answered my questions about CWS vs lefties at home. Javy definetly has the better form of the 2 starters last 5 starts. I think you are right, CWS get the $$$

Action ,

Great post bro.

Well I do have a great idea of my strengths and weaknesses. One HUGE limitation I have as I have I gotten older well first I discovered I had ADD but it has become progressively worse . So alot of the second guessing , trouble making decisions , feeling rushed because of the time element is the illness it self . Why taking meds helps tremendously its also not a smooth answer.

My biggest capping strength will always be ML and ATS regardless of sport. I am okay at totals at times I can find great edges but alot of mine are feel plays . Alot of has to due with effort put into the research.

My biggest weakness is two-sided sometimes feeling the need to vindicate my opinion by playing something though not certain about the validity of my arguement &(funny part is I got distracted and forgot the other ...oh ADD..)

I dont mind the amount of sports . Its more slowing my self down getting the proper amount of time to look at the info and not feel rushed .

The balance aspect last few weeks have sucked . Get sick stuck inside for a few weeks , get better then 2 days later take a shot to the face and slightly break my nose for the like the 8th time or so . So with the swollen snaz have dont much past few days. So will I am home I cant just sit and watch TV or relax, again ADD . So I start typing to keep my mind distracted from being home......

I guess my biggest handicap is having to overcome ADD . Friends say just trust yourself but its just not that simple especially having a paranoid mind.

Another weakness is sloppiness and being off weighted . Need to have a sound basis for what a play is worth . Rather then every game deciding how to play what caue its more decisions , more time consuming and more chances to make a poor decision.....

Thanks !:shake:

Checked it quick...

At home

WSOX have won 10 straight vs LHSP last losing vs DeLaRosa 2-0 and are 14-2 since April ended losing to Saunders 3-1.

April they were 2-2 losing 5-1 to Burres and 2-1 to Greg Smith beating Gambler 11-0 and Eveland 4-1 . They had a game where Willis started last 2 batters trailed 1-0 before exiting but eventually won 5-2 that I didnt count since he pitched to 2.5 batters...

So basically 16-4 @ home vs LHSP but 12-1 L13...

It was not easy to go over 12 with the enemic lineup that Washington has, but the stat when the line is 11 1/2 at Chicago that the game goes over, etc. was the key YOU uncovered!

I missed it and I love to learn. What is the stat if you don't mind me asking? :shake:

It was more something I noticed this year that when the wind was blowing strong @ Wrigley the Cubs seemed to really thrive offensively but now the past 2 times its been the opposition which thrived (Zambrano vs STL and yesterday) . Off the top of my head some of the games with strong winds were when Milw came in with Suppan dealing they put up 19 , vs Harang early in the season , possibly Arroyo vs Lilly recently ...

Cubs are 5-1 over now at home with 11 or 11.5 totals(fallen to 4-2 SU) which is obviously due to the wind being out and they also went over in the STL game but that total was a gift at 8.5 few Sat's ago ...

Obviously the WIND @ Wrigley is a long standing factor to be aware just seems that so far in 08 when its blowing strong the teams specifically the Cubs have taken advantage . Possibly because it hasnt happened that often so when it has there was a definite strong gust rather then "expecting" a strong gust

That with saying the avg person would not expect WASH to score much even with the wind and what I felt was a long overdue explosion for WASH offensively just seemed like the perfect spot for WASH to go off offensively ....not certain but last 10 spot they had I believe was game 2 of a DH vs STL when its pen was so-so and it started Mike Parisi of Manhattan College...love my fellow MAAC pitchers ...

So some "opposite" thinking seeing WASH due for some offense . Nothing other then identifying a pattern really . Once we are convinced something is unlikely to happen of course it happens ....

Recently DD totals @ Wrigley are 6-1 Over L7 , 7-2 L9 , 9-3 L12...

Can anyone tell me who offers the Grand Salami other then Pinnacle ? Even the Home vs Away team ML . Just curious to see what others offer . My book jacks everything up and like to know if I am getting raped its by very little.

Tampa/WSox

Any stock in Thome and AJ are something like 1-16 lifetime against Kaz?

I say that makes sense . Power LHP in Kaz facing 2 LHBs one in Thome more on the downside of his career and the other a solid but unspectualr hitter .

If you mean does it concern me ? I would say that I dont expect much of anything from either if AL even plays . Thome could hit a HR but thats like any power hitter could.

CHI strength would be Cabrera , A. Ramirez , Dye , Konerko , Quentin from the RH side ....while having a SP who can go deep into the game and possibily limit his opponent to 3 runs or less..

have not played it trying to see if it gets any cheaper..
