A study in extremes, the Mets last 32 games of almost all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2, 2, 7, 6, 6, 3 & 6 run totals.

15 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-5 runs.
16 totals of 6+ runs.

Playing LAA/Balt over 9.5 with McClelland behind the plate and gas can Liz on the hill. Figure the O's to be able to help the cause enough here against Garland. Also like Bost/Nyy under 9 -05. Both Pettitte 17-4 under in his starts this year and Wakefield in very good recent form.

Although I am thoroughly drunk, Banks jumps right the fuck off the page at me. SD

Lincecum not for the faint of heart, but a nice price. Thinking a small card is the way to go after all the bad beats on Friday......

going the other way wuth SF/Zona, a nice price on Webb.........When do you ever get him at +150?

Wakefield

[7] Starts vs teams 9 games over .500 or better
WHIP 1.40, ERA 5.01 - O/U 2-2-2, avg 10.16 runs/game

Boston 1-1 SU at home, 0-5 SU on the road

[13] Starts vs all other teams (best of which is 3 games over .500)
WHIP 1.06, ERA 3.10 - O/U 6-5-2, avg 8.85 runs/game

Boston 5-1 SU at home, 3-4 SU on the road

Wakefield is 7-2-2 to Over his last 11 starts in which the loser wasn't shutout (average of 10.63 runs/game), with only 1 game totaling less than 8 runs.

Wakefield has conceded 20 ERs in his last 20.1 IP vs the Yankees.

BC, I know you have been following those Mets totals for a while but how can you capitalize on something like that. Parlay Mets and over? Opposing team/under?

Tidbits from around the leagues

National League

New York/Saint Louis
The Mets have not conceded more than 3 runs over the 1st 8 innings of their last 12 home games.

Mets RF Ryan Church (post-concussion syndrome) was cleared to begin light conditioning work but is not expected back before Thursday’s trade deadline.

The Cardinals have lost a season high 5 straight games, during which time they have not scored more than 3 runs, also a season high streak (for offensive futility).

The Cardinals have played a major league-high 39 one-run games.

Albert Pujols went 0-5 for only the 2nd time this season in Friday's game, and is 2-19 (.105) his last 5 games. Sounds like the kind of form Oakland trades for - get Billy Beane on the ph, LaRussa.

Chicago/Florida
The Cubs, who lead the NL with 538 runs, left 11 runners on base Friday, and have been very inconsistent lately. They’ve scored 25 runs in their last three wins, but only eight in their last six losses.

Ryan Theriot had two hits Friday, and leads the NL with 41 multihit games.

Jeff Samardzija is taking the roster spot of closer RHP Kerry Wood, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday, retroactive to July 14, with a blister on his right index finger.

Dan Uggla improved to 2-25 since the AS game with a hit on Friday. Another batter Billy Beane needs to trade for.

Philadelphia/Atlanta
Philadelphia has dropped their last 4 home games vs divisional opponents.

Philadelphia was a season-high 13 games over .500 and had a season-best four-game lead in the division after a 20-2 win at St. Louis on June 13. Since then, the Phillies are 13-21 and the offense has sputtered: They have scored two runs or fewer 13 times in those 34 games, including three shutouts.

Atlanta won a road game on Friday - check the White House for aliens.

Braves 3B Chipper Jones sat out Friday with a strained left hamstring. Jones, who leads the majors with a .369 batting average, could be headed for the DL.

Cincinnati/Colorado
Reds OF Jay Bruce went 0-for-5 to see his hitting streak snapped at 12 games, the longest by an NL rookie this season.

The Reds scored 2 runs (or less) for just the 2nd time in 12 games on Friday, and the 1st time in 16 home games.

RHP Josh Fogg, who has 30 stitches in his mouth after being hit by a line drive by Votto during batting practice on Tuesday, threw in the bullpen before Friday’s game and remains scheduled to start Sunday.

The Rockies won a road game on Friday - check the White House & the Vatican for aliens.

The Rockies have won 7 of their last 8 games (scoring at least 5 runs in all of them). They have not won 8 of 9 this season.

Milwaukee/Houston
Milwaukee has not conceded more than 3 runs for 5 straight games. They have only one longer such streak (6 games) this season.

Carlos Lee’s single in the 2nd inning extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Astros are now 7-36 SU when they score fewer than four runs.

Pittsburgh/San Diego
Pittsburgh has scored at least 4 runs in 8 of their last 9 home games.

Pittsburgh dropped to 7-4 SU in their last 11 1-run games w/Friday's narrow loss.

San Diego has conceded at least 4 runs in 11 straight games. No wonder they are 2-9 SU over this period.

Los Angeles/Washington
Jeff Kunt, who has 13 career grand slams, is 0-for-7 in bases-loaded situations this season. Billy Beane, get on that ph again, bro.

Dodgers OF Delwyn Young was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Thursday, because of a strained right oblique muscle.

The National's are starting to believe they may really have a chance to finish with worse record than what the 2003 Tigers managed, given their 4th straight loss on Friday. They plan to re-evaluate their chances after they've lost 15 straight.

San Francisco/Arizona
The Giants continue to battle the Mariners for the worst home record in the majors. They're overjoyed Seattle is presently on the road, so they can take sole lead in said stakes during this series with Arizona, starting off on the right foot Friday with an 8 run loss.

Arizona is finally back at .500, & the NL West has a division leader without a losing record - check the White House, the Vatican, and Buckingham Palace for aliens.

Arizona has alternated wins & losses for 10 straight road games.

American League

Toronto/Seattle
Toronto is 7-2 SU in their last 9 1-run home games.

Blue Jays OF Vernon Wells (strained hamstring) took batting practice for the first time since injuring his left leg July 9.

Seattle RHP Carlos Silva, who left his last start after three innings with a stiff lower back, will not face Toronto on Saturday as scheduled. RHP R.A. Dickey (on 3 days rest) will start in place of Silva, whose next outing will come Tuesday at Texas.

Seattle is 3-12 SU their last 15 games.

Baltimore/Los Angeles
Baltimore is 4-13 SU their last 17 games.

Baltimore is 1-10 SU in their last 11 1-run games.

Baltimore has been outscored 75-51 in the first inning.

Los Angeles is 43-5 SU when scoring first.

Kansas City/Tampa Bay
The Royals starting pitchers have thrown a total of 34.1 innings out of a possible 62 innings since the All-Star break.

The Devil Rays (60-42) are 43-27 (.614) when the opposition starts a right-hander.

Tampa Bay’s Grant Balfour did not allow a hit in 1.2 innings Friday night, and leads all major league relievers by holding opponents to a .114 average.

Detroit/Chicago
Detroit has totaled at least 4 runs in 10 straight games.

Detroit is 1-5 SU in their last 6 1-run games.

When he retires, Todd Jones has been guaranteed a fellowship at the College for teaching relievers how to fuck up their teammates previous efforts.

The White Sox put All-Star 3B Joe Crede (back) on the DL and replaced him with Josh Fields. They also released RHP Esteban Loaiza.

Oakland/Texas
Oakland is 1-8 SU their last 9 games - finally this pitching staff is faltering under the load of having to carry a dogshit offense.

Oakland has scored more than 4 runs just 4 times in 20 games (pheew - get a whiff of that dogshit).

The Rangers are 2-6 SU off the last 8 occasions they've put up a 10+ runs total.

Cleveland/Minnesota
The Indians have homered in 11 straight games.

Cleveland is now 3-9 SU in their last 12 1-run games.

Minnesota has lost 5 straight road games, and 8 of their last 11.

Boston/New York
Manny Ramirez was scratched from Friday's lineup with a sore right knee and missed his second straight game. He is hitting .487 during his current 11-game hitting streak.

Dustin Pedroia has a hit in safely in 9 straight games, and in 26 of his last 27 games overall.

Boston has not totaled more than 4 runs in a regulation 9 innings for 8 straight games, a season high (their longest previous such streak was 6 games, which they ended by putting up 7, 12, 7, 6, 5, 9, 5, 6, 5 & 8 regulation run totals over their next 10 games).

The Yankees remain undefeated since the All-Star break (7-0 SU). Since 2002 their best 8 game post-AS-break start has been 7-1 SU.

Pettitte

Starts in Boston since 2007
WHIP 1.98, ERA 7.36, O/U 3-0 - avg 13.00 runs/game, NYY 2-1 SU

In these games -
Ellsbury .... 2-2 .1000
Drew ....... 3-5 .600
Lowell ..... 4-8 .500
Youkilis .... 3-6 .500
Ortiz ....... 3-8 .375
Crisp ....... 2-5 .400
Pedroia .... 2-9 .222
Overall ..... 19-43 .441

All starts vs Boston since 2007
WHIP 1.84, ERA 6.16, O/U 5-2 - avg 11.42 runs/game, NYY 4-3 SU

(44-29-12 - 114-70-26)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Since 2007, Boston is 6-1 to Over at an average of 12.57 runs/game when playing a home game off being shutout their previous game. The only Under result involved the only instance of a game's loser being shutout.
Boston is 6-1 SU in said games.

i had a disaster day today, lost to the jays RL, the angels RL, DET gaveup comeback and the redsox, oh well moving on

i agree, very cheap on webb

looking at carmona and banks

hamels, lowe and harden shouldnt be favored by that much, way off i guess (not saying to play the opposite sides though)

can't wait what sportsnut has to say on the yanks/redsox game and the pettite/wakefield matchup

I took Baker. Twins in night games 40-29. Indians 34-37. Carmona went 5 and 4 innings in his minor league rehabs. Not sure if that Indian pen can hold together if they have to pitch 4 innings tomorrow. Bottom line with a tremendous early edge Cleveland won by 1 run Friday. Not very similar to those romps they had with Tampa. And the WS gained another game on Minn.

I believe a lot of people are seeing Banks right now. I see a stat. Padres 3-17 last 20 vs a right-hander.

Very good point there on Carmona's ability to go deep in the game, and then you have that terrible bullpen come into play. Baker has nice history L4 starts vs. Cleveland as well.

NO time for writeups for me, but I'm on the Orioles at +108 for five units,
Wrigley OVER 7.5 three units, and pettite for two.

Good luck fellas!

Never done a 1st 5 innning bet. Does the book payout right after the 5 inning are complete or do they wait for game to end?

yankees get Nady

New York Yankees
Acquired OF Xavier Nady and LHP Damaso Marte from the Pirates in exchange for Minor League RHPs Jeff Karstens, Daniel McCutchen and Ross Ohlendorf and Minor League OF Jose Tabata.

Usually paid out before.... I think 1st5 can really hold some value, but you must be selective. Hit up the Angels & Yankees yesterday. A's-.5 1st5 is -130, looks like a nice play for today.

Couple bad beats for me yesterday- Tigers, Indians rl, Mariners (to me the worst of all with Ichiro dropping the game ending out). One of these don't happen & I come out with a positive day but nooooo a 3 unit loss. Can't help but feel like I capped the games well, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Doggie watch for today

Orioles+112

Royals+145

Astros+158

Twins+102

Giants+105

Thinking these go 3-2, with the Astros being the riskiest play of them. May stay away from that one entirely.

Faves on my radar

A's 1st5-.5 -130

Reds-116

SD-112

Tuck- I am seeing Banks. Padres 3-17 vs RHP I know, just 2-7 since the break. Why favored? Banks due for a decision, IMO he gets the win. Maybe I play 1st5 there.....

No idea why Banks is favored. May go against but confused situation with the trade so still thinking. Regarding Baltimore---obviously they go all out to win today since tomorrow is Sunday and then they play at Yankees. Still desire helps a lot but idiot manager used some of their best relivers yesterday. Hope for more input on the Baltimore play.

Hope for more input on the Baltimore play.

Garland has an opp ba of .303 on the road. Public has short term memory....off a solid outing vs Boston, but last road start @ Oakland he was rocked. Liz has terrible numbers, yet the O's are 6-3 in his last 9 starts & 3-1 in his home starts. Halos put up a bunch early, but were outscored 5-1 from the 3rd inning on. Last time the O's faced him they had just 3 hits in 8ip, a bit of revenge the second time around?

Tell you what guys. Some people today won with Florida. Some people won with the Cubs. I won with the Cubs and Florida :smiley_acbe:

SD also rarely wins 2 games straight and who knows the last series they won or split( @ Zona) . I think the trade does have alot to do with it along with JVB .

L38 SD games consecutive wins twice. Just 11-27 in that span which started with consecutive wins .

JVB hasnt shown the ability to go deep in games and minus Capps and Marte the pen is very thin with Yates probably the closer. Only Grabow is reliable in middle relief ....

Hard to see much value in either and tmrw is almost a coin flip with Peavy vs Maholm .

SD is also 7-24 in Game 3s....

You just wonder if Pitt now feels there season is worthless......

Really tough to figure IMO might lean SD depending on lineups.

Not much interests me here ....

If you think SD is poor vs RHSP check the Nats

1-15 L16 away since defeating Micah Owings . Which doesnt include a WIN vs Dickey who like Wake I simply consider a knuckerballer not a RHP .

11 of them they scored 3 or less.

9-26 all season vs RHSP away.

They have hit better though last few ....

Still though dont like Lowe enough to lay -200......

BOL all ......

For tonight, what do you guys think about the following:

Angels -122...I love Garland heading to Balt with such small juice going against Liz.

Mets vs. Cards Over 9.5 Either team is capable of scoring 10 alone tonight IMO

Indians -108 with Carmona
